[Q] Flip Clock Animation Missing - HTC Aria Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I am new to the Android game and I got the HTC Aria few days back.
I am a big fan of the Sense UI. The main reason I got this phone.
My question is that why doesnt the flip clock on my Aria actually FLIP, like it does on other HTC phones with the Sense UI as shown in the videos.
Am I missing something or is something wrong with my phone.

you know what... i never noticed that...

I noticed it after using it for about 10-12 days, I looked around on Youtube and other places to see if the FLIP actually happens as shown on the video commercial. But it never does.

i've seen it said that only their winmo phones had flip animations

I am pretty sure that I have seen the clock FLIP on the HTC hero which is an Android phone.
Edit : I looked around a bit and found that the Old Hero Roms have FLIP on it but not the new ones.
HTC/AT&T could have removed or disabled the animation.
Is there any way I can get my Flip Clock to actually FLIP.
Please HELP ! I really want that thing on my phone.

The flip animation was replaced by the weather effects animation i believe.
To my knowledge you cannot have one without the other. Ive also noticed that the weather animation pauses all animations on the homescreen when active such as the HTC sync app or the HTC battery meter app.
I do know that all windows mobile phones with sense UI does flip but do not have such extensive weather animation.
thunderstorm animation is my favourite

@Thundervore
The Thunderstorm animation is Awesome !
But when you say that the weather animation has replaced the Flip animation.
Is there no way I can get the Flip animation on my Aria?
Probably get the widget pack from an Old Hero ROM or something like that ?
Is something like that possible ?

I would much rather have the flip animation than the weather animation.

Before the Aria I had a GSM HTC Hero. Soon after I got it HTC released an incremental update that removed the flip animation, claiming that the flip used too much CPU resources and slowed down the phone.
I liked the flip animation as well, and I personally never noticed any sort of performance difference between the two versions. I do know that if you kept your HTC Hero on cupcake, someone released a .apk that gives you back the flip animation, but the last time I checked there was no solution for eclair SenseUI.

Aww man...
I have tried everything.
Fancy Widget, Beautiful Widget and even the .zip from the link posted above.
Nothing works ... there isnt a clock that will flip.
I saw a video on youtube where Flip Clock is available on HTC Windows phones.
Thats kinda stupid.
I hope there is a port or something.
I wouldnt mind working on it if pointed in the right direction.

Just to be clear, the HTC Hero (GSM) was the last HTC android phone to have an actually 'flipping' flip clock, and they patched it so that it wouldn't, and there was never a 2.1 flipclock that actually flipped.

There's got to be a way to port an older Sense widget with the flip animation...

well i tried.. and failed... I flashed the flip from desire hd port but it sort of worked... not really. It looked like a big blob of overly sized numbers.
So I tried resizing all the pictures, and failed. This might be because I am deodexeded right now. Can someone else with a odexed sense rom flash this in recovery and see if it works? Please? Also do a nandroid and report back to me. If it works, I'll post it on my sense clock mod thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824856
If it doesn't i'll remove the attachment.

tried the flip on regular fr06. there was just a grey box where the clock/weather widget would be.

only phones have CPU upper 600 Mhz could use flip animation . Ex: desire, evo 4G, Desire HD.....

its an android bug i belive... i moved from hd mini to aria and withe the mini the flip worked great!
a freind of mine have desire stockd not rooted and agian, the flip doesn't work..
only in desire hd the bug was fix..
a bit shame..

Animating Flip Clock Widget
I have a clock widget with a real animating flip, which does not require sense. Check my thread.

Good evening veerm
I use a cab from the thread "xda-developers > HTC Leo: HD2 > HD2 Themes and Apps > Disable flip clock initial animation" which works on my Artemis 8.0 German. It disables the initial flip when comming back to the homescreen.

Thanks mate, i have been using this tweak as well, but what i am really looking for is a "no flip" at all...
Its very surprising to me that its not been done yet - didn't think that difficult for all the great devs on this site.

wonderful to see the gtx project continues. this is the best theme ever, so nice and clean and just beautiful, professional look. congratulations guys!
about the no-flip clock, i'm interested in it as well. perhaps i'll dare to join the gtx thread and ask for the tip
Death to flippy clocks!
DEATH TO FLIPPY CLOCKS! Surely there must be a digital clock alternative for Manila 2.1 somewhere!
CHT 1.8.5
Co0kie home tab 1.8.5 has an option to remove minute flips from clock. But in your case looks like you do not like CHT... so try looking at the registry. There should be some key to disable it. Good Luck!!
I turned off all "flip clock" features through CHT and other tweak programs, removed clock background, replaced the png's for the numbers, etc.
The only thing that remains is the small horizontal line that goes right through the numbers, a feature from the "flip clock" in the programing somewhere.
I know on other Manila versions some people managed to remove it, even GTX got rid of it somehow.
I hope someone can figure out how to get it out of the HD2.

After uninstalling the clock will be back!
I have the numbers, just no background or flip images.
Just the numbers displaying the time... with a black line right through the middle of them.
The cab from above just makes for no clock all together, at all
I want a clock, just not the "flip" clock, like the OP.
If you have no background or flip images, try these numbers.

If you use the small clock in cht, you won't see the line. If you use the large clock you might.
If you have the standard clock, use Dic3ptorĀ“s No Digital Flip Clock.cab to wipe out the clock then the numbers cab attached to put the black numbers on.

[Q] im looking for this weather\clock thing

My boss just got a brand new android phone and i cant remember what it is, but one of his stock apps he can put on the home screen and it shows a flip clock and the weather, but if its raining outside wipers cross the screen and stuff like that. is there a program i can get for the vibrant that will do the same thing?? I dont really care if the clock is there I just want the weather thing.

When you click on the weather from the widget BW DOES have animations like what you are describing.
It is the most downloaded paid app for a reason... try it out.
also try weather and toggle widget. its free in the market. you have to download the weather addon so you can see the effects you're talkin about
Beautiful widgets has the unlock weather animations now too.. Its neeto. Lol
its an HTC exclusive apk you can find in a Legend or Eris ROM there used to be a widget in the market called FancyWidget which was an exact replica minus the animation but HTC complained and thus was removed. if you dl an old legend or eris rom you can pull the apk thats what i did and its running great on my vibrant though no weather animation but it is free and in my opinion just as good if not better than beautiful widget or any other paid app in the market. if you want it PM me and i'll point you in the right direction
here is a pic of what it looks like thats with launcher pro not mine but a good example

NO this is not Beautiful Widget which you have to pay for its a copy of the original HTC weather widget that i pulled from this G1 Rom http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5Q81JD2F pull and push the apk using adb or just open the rar file go to system/app/ move clockwidget.apk to your sd install with astro or apkinstaller and voila that worked for me and its free

The guys who are ripping and sharing stuff from Sense roms be careful. HTC is very protective of it's IP. You might find yourself on the nasty end of a C&D.
Weather & Toggle Widgets does the exact same type of animations as Sense's Flip Clock (the rain/windshield wipers and such). Beautiful Widgets does something similar, but not the exact same type of animations. Both widgets are skinnable and both have tons of very nice skins available for them. I'd use one of those instead (yes they're pay-ware, but both are worth it, I own both).
Is this like the Flip Clock on the HD2? Would there be any way to port that onto the vibrant?
If your phone supports it, you might want to get the Live wallpaper for Beautiful Weather. Not a must, but looks nice.
Does anybody have problems with a bunch of the clock skins not fitting right?

Do you have the screen resolution upped with the LCD Density Changer app?
If so, Beautiful Widgets Home doesn't play well with higher density.....so I had to go get Weather Widget from the market...it's similar, also paid, but it will center properly on a higher density resolution

[THEME] Honeycomb for any ROM

Unfortunately guys this isn't a flashable theme.
I have been messing around with the Honeycomb look for the last week.
I've had some requests to share how I achieved the look so here goes.
Some of these are going to be paid apps, but lets support our devs!
First up screenies and there's a bunch

First up you're going to need Launcerpro plus. Once you have paid for it go to Signals23's thread and download his Honeycomb theme here. That will get you the messaging, agenda, bookmarks, Friends, etc...widgets. You will want to set up 5 columns on your homescreens in the LPP settings. These widgets will need to be resized just longpress and resize to fit your look.
Next for the honeycomb clock at the bottom of my homescreen you will need one more clock widget from here.
The weather widget is just Beautiul Widgets 1x1 with the "None" weather skin.
Beautiful widgets can be downloaded from the market here for $1.96.
The battery widget is BattStatt. You can download the free version here. I recommend upgrading to the Pro version for more customization.
The analog clock is Honeycomb clock FREE which can be downloaded from the market here.
Most of my icons are from the Ares HD icon pack by Radius which can be found here.
A few of the icons are from iconspedia, so if you don't see them in Ares HD check there.
The APPS+ icon is a shortcut that I set up for my settings. The icon is an icon from Manup's Minimal Text Clean icon pack that I played with in GIMP. Here it is, if you can't see it it's there just save and move to your SD card.
Right click above this and save the image.
I am using Audio Manager Pro with the Minimal skin from Johnny Bueno found here on the market.
For my music widget I am using Music Mod which can be downloaded from the market here.
For the dock and dock icons I am using this pack created for the Evo by bizdady.
For the power controls on my notification pull shade I am using Power Control Plus which can be purchased from the market here for $2.02.
The search widget and genie widget are included in Newkidd's AwesomeROM. Special thanks go out to him and all the above mentioned devs. Man I love Android.
If you find anything else to contribute to the look or just want to share please add to the thread.
If I locate anything else or incorporate any suggestions I'll add to this post.

nice! are you going to make a rom based off of this current UI setup? If not, is the theme just applied to stock? or can it be run on roms without bootloop issues?
Might be a silly question, but I cant seem to get my music mod to look like yours. How did you do that?

[Q] Weather App??

On my old HTC Tilt 2 I had an animated weather part on my home page that updated automatically.
What app can I get to have this type setup? Free is preferred.
GO Weather is what I'm using, sounds like what you'd like. Widget, lock screen and/or live wallpaper.
This appears to be the one I want. How do I get it to replace the one on my home page?
I'm on GO Launcher, so not sure if TouchWiz is the same, but if you want to swap widgets, a long press on the existing should give you an option to delete. Then menu-->add-->widget should give you a menu option of GO Widget, where you'll find weather.
Try 1 or both of these...

I have tried the ones mentioned, but have not found the one I want. The one I had with my old phone would show rain and windshield wipers if it was raining and wind if it was windy, etc.
Are there any like this out there? It also would automatically update the temperature every so many minutes.
Beautiful Weather has the options for unlock animations which looks pretty sweet.
HTC sense 3.5 4.0
I assume your last phone was HTC with sense 3.0 or 3.5 sadly there isn't any company that does software like HTC does alot of companies try but just can't get it exactly like HTC so your out of luck there. Beautiful weather is as close as it gets to what your looking for. HTC does best software lacks in hardware and displays. Samsung does best in Displays and hardware software they leave that to app developers unless it's Bada . Motorola ok software good hardware ok displays software may get alot better now that Google owns them we'll see. Sony pretty good software, last years hardware, ok displays. I wish we could get HTC sense on Sammy phones it would be sick. Oh this is all my opinion so please don't flame too much.
I tried Beautiful Weather, but it would not take my location which is Dallas, Texas. When I did the auto it came up with New York.
There is a Sense app, so I may try it.
I am also hoping to get an app that will automatically pick up the local weather wherever I am. For example if I am in New Orleans, it would show New Orleans weather plus what locations I have saved.

Weather bug elite is pretty decent and stays upto date with just about everything weather wise. Nothing really compares to sense.
I like beweather and I got it for free from getjar
What you describe with windsheild wipers, rain, etc. is on my wife's Android, I believe as a live wallpaper. She's had hers for over a year so its been out a while.
Do you know what app it is?
I just checked, it is a HTC phone, not sure where/how that setting is made - it appears on top of her personal wallpaper.

My Razr setup to fix annoying problems

I hope this makes some users enjoy their MOTO RAzrs even more!
First thing I noticed is how bland and boring the UI is on the razr and the lack of a very nice clock / weather widget like HTC has.
Fix
DL, "go launcher ex" then search Fancy clock widget it like looks very similar to the HTC sense clock
2nd was how absolutely horribly laggy the picture gallery is.... when searching photos and even worse the zooming feature.
Fix
I Found a free app called "QuickPic" Initially it took longer to generate the thumbnails but once that was done it is Veryyy fast scrolling thru photos and the zoom works flawless even zooms much further than stock picture gallery.
3rd was the sound.. again absolutely horrible compared to my HTC incredible popping sounds low voice low bass, I didn't even want to listen to it.
Fix
I read on here about DSP and how apple uses it to enhance the sound so i did a search for DSP and came up with the "equalizer" app. Even without changing any settings it was a night and day difference in sound quality, then you can adjust as necessary. This app runs in background and changes sound for entire phone so once you set it you never really have to go back to it, use Pandora or any player and it will work.
4th I wanted to root to gain wifi tethering but was afraid of bricking my new phone or having unforeseen glitches annoy me even further.
Fix
again Found here on XDA forums a nice app called "FOXFI" no rooting required no fee. Just free wifi tethering with your 4G razr i love it.
5th Im sure we all know about "aptoide" an awesome collection of free payed for apps deff a must have!
6th I just received my "DIZTRONIC" Case and i love it! Very tight fitting quality made all cutouts are in the correct location Very happy with it.
Link to Diztronic site This is the one i purchased in Matte black (has gloss front to it)
http://tpu-cases.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=44_59&products_id=236
Other nice widgets i use

"Battery life widget" by curve fish Nice looking battery level widget customizable

SVOX got their servers fixed over the weekend, so one can even install the voice data.

My phone will happily read me a story.

Badass Battery Monitor will add a 1% battery to your notification panel and even estimate (based on usage) how much the longer the battery will last for before needing a charge.
Percentage seams spot on except for the last bit while charging up, it will leap from from like 95% straight to 100% like the stock battery thing does when charging.
