Clockwork recovery on the way! - Fascinate Android Development

Koush has just tweeted a request for Fascinate owners to drop in to IRC for help in creating a recovery image. Sounds like it won't be long!

Which channel? I'll do what I can.

Thanks for the info angel.
Looks like there has been more background work than I thought. Makes me very happy.

Count me in as a suicidal beta tester for anything.
I want CM Nightlies again damnit.

Sorry for the rookie question:
I'm trying to add the server on AndChat for Android. What's the port number?

Wow. Posted the wrong source? What? That blows a huge bag of ***** if this is true?

Well, they've since updated with a new file, we'll see if that's correct or not. If it is, we can't really blame them. We downloaded the file hours before they officially announced it.
Now if this new file is still wrong, after they've announced it, then we can give them crap, but lets wait and see.

LOL I just wanted to say something troll like. I've never made any trolly comments sorry brandon. Had to. 230+ post and not one negative comment. LOL k. Ill drop it

how is clockwork recovery process for Fascinate coming along??

Koush tweeted at about 0130 est looking for people with Fascinates to join his freenode IRC channel. I would assume he's actively working it since unrevoked 3.21 had been finialized and released.

Project Voodoo Port To Fascinate

Hey guys, I was just posting up to ask whether or not anyone had looked into porting project voodoo over to the fascinate. I know supercurio posted up this porting information on his site http://project-voodoo.org/porting a few days ago but hadn't seen anything in here on it.
I am by no means a developer but more of a news/rumor man or else i would totally be working on this for everyone so i hope someone out there is capable and willing to give this a go as it seems to be a much more capable and stable solution to the lag fix experienced on other galaxy s variants and though we all may not necessarily need it... it'd be a cool option to try
It is being worked on. We need a full kernel built from source to get to this point, or try to splice voodoo into our recovery kernel that wad tweaked to work. Its gonna take some time but know it is being worked on. Kernel built from source is the first on the development list

lol awesome, thank you.
thats literally all i was hoping to hear, i figured we were still a lil whiles away from getting a voodoo kernel but glad to hear it is on the list
thanks
Now that there is a kernel that actually compiles and works is this more of a reality? If it's already being worked on what's the status?

Got it! Thanks guys!
The porting guide is not complete, but big strides have been made recently, though it may not come outside of inner circles for a real release until voodoo beta 5. #project-voodoo on freenode is a place to check out, though you may get a bad response if all you do is log on every day and ask "is it out yet?"

Looking for ROM/hack news to follow

I just got the Fascinate, came from the DroidX and I would like to know if there are any devs that are working on ROMs/ hacks that i should start following on twitter. If you know of any please let me know. Thanks

Me and you both man. I'm so anxious to see this happen.
You can watch for Frostman89 here on xda, he is currently working on deodexing the stock rom. And namebrandon and dirrk on android central. You might go to freenode.net in the #samsung-fascinate chat as that is where most of the dev's are working out issues.

(REQ)Status Of Custom Kernel For 2.1

I was wondering about some of the devs on here on what the status of compiling the custom kernel? I know there was issues with defconfig being left out by Samsung but someone overcame the issue but then it went all quiet. I was curious if everyone was waiting when 2.2 launches on Black Friday to finish a custom kernel or if something else is going on.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Well if you're concerned with it and want to keep up on the latest and greatest... just go hang out in freenode #samsung-fascinate instead of posting a thread requesting people to update you with the status of a custom kernel.
http://github.com/jt1134/linux-2.6-fascinate/commits/OC/
it compiles
Are we still looking at the aries rev02 as the defconfig?

I believe so.
I have been wondering the same thing. I understand that 2.2 is the latest and greatest, but what's stopping people from building 2.1 ROMS and showing off their awesome work while we wait?
Also I don't see why it's a big deal to ask about the kernel here, last time I checked this was the development section and "development" on the kernel went hush hush. Also IMO IRC is too busy and cluttered for my liking.
to answer the point of this post yes there are custom kernels
BTW guys im not going to post any links bc i havent ask. but if you go to #samsung-fascinate irc channel there are a couple of OC'd custom kernels floating around, so give or take another day or 2 and they will be all over the place. thanks to jt and dirrk
Do the custom kernels have any other optimizations? The phone is fast enough at 1 ghz.
not yet i dont beleive, they got it to compile which was apparently a feat in itself so just a little bit longer and we should be ready for things to switch into high gear. if you go into the irc room you can test out some of the kernel and im sure that they wouldnt care a bit

While I have no experience in disassembling software, I do have a decent proficiency in packet sniffing. Maybe we can catch the communication from this exploit http //alpharev.nl/x/beta/ on its way out via usb to an Incredible to see just how its making magic.
My first step will be trying to intercept an adb shell session with my own devices and matching readable commands in the logs using wireshark.
Wire Shark has a nice little tutorial here: http //wiki.wireshark.org/CaptureSetup/USB
As most my experience happens to deal with ethernet packets, Im not sure just what to expect once Im able to capture packets from USB, so I might need help finding a way to make the output understandable.
It is in my belief this route has yet to be explored, so this is my attempt of trying something new with a sploit for another phone.
Later this evening Ill be setting up a lab, cant wait to see what I find.
If anyone has any insight to sniffing usb, perhaps we can exchange ideas.

At this point it really doesn't matter to me who gets things working but it would be nice if people could cooperate and not get into mud slinging and that sort of thing.
Internet fame is a silly thing. At the end of the day no one knows who someone's handle really is in real life and they don't care, they just want a decently functioning ROM for their device.

I for one am glad to see that progress is being made. If it take's the Devs time to co-ordinate a release, that's all good. Consider that the TouchPad has ICS, and in a state that is serviceable for many apps. When the HW accel is available, it will just make it sweeter.
Not bad for a $149/$99 tablet, IMHO.
