Text lag - Fascinate Android Development

I'm coming from a moto droid to an incredible to a Droid X to the fascinate and I've noticed some lag in the texting. Like if I want to type really fast I feel that it doesn't keep up 100% any fix for this?
Please don't day swype cause I hate it! Lol..

I removed swype and went back to stock keyboard and its much better. Looking to use the HTC_ime keyboard but it still wont load though even though I have it checked under keyboards and languages. I used titanium backup to backup and remove swype.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App

But have you noticed any lag when typing? Its like the keyboard doesn't want to pick up sometimes.. I'm using smartkeyboardpro now and have used the stock keyboard...

the only "lag" i noticed was when typing with the swype keyboard. It wouldn't be as responsive and would force me to slow down when I type. The stock, HTC_IME keyboard are both fine, no lag here.

Only time i noticed lag was when my phone was plugged into the wall, every couple letters i type the screen was unresponsive for a second.

I'm using the droid x multi touch keyboard and haven't noticed any problems

Please enlight us, i've been wanting to try this keyboard on my fascinate

I used one of the apk's that has been posted around the net. Make sure you are currently using the Swype keyboard then use root explorer to rename LatinIME.apk and LatinIME.odex to LatinIME.apk.bak and LatinIME.dex.apk. The multi touch apk file should install and work. If I were to do this again I would have made sure to have a nandroid backup done first.
Try the apk from this thread
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...touch-keyboard-has-been-ported-available.html
The one issue I have with it is that it doesn't keep the "vibrate on press" setting turned on after a reboot

For some reason I can't get the Multi-Touch keyboard to work on my fascinate. It's rooted, moved two latinime file but still doesn't work.

No fail at all on install. I use astro to install and when done it says install successful. Is it supposed to copy a new LatinIME.apk and LatinIME.odex to system/app? After it installs I don't see those files in system/app.

[VTL Launcher] Bottom position in landscape and Portrait [04/13/2011]

I have been waiting on this for quite a while. VTL Launcher! A scrolling dock bar across the bottom in landscape and portrait orientation. Gojimi of the GTablet devs has done it again. Still beta but works great and is built using ADW Launcher source.
I installed it earlier today on my GTab and loved it, so decided to give it a shot on the Nook and it works great on it too. As I said, it is still beta so there are a lot more features to be implemented over the coming releases.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1017451
Be sure to give gojimi a big old thanks for all his great work when ya go to grab it!
Have fun..... HTR

Hmm I'm using opera on the nook and when I go to download it it gives me the file as launcher.zip. I've also tried to download on the computer using IE and I get a zip file as well. Tried dolphin and it downloads as an apk so thats weird but thanks for your help.

That's very strange. Must be an Opera thing, you could have most likely downloaded it as a zip file then renamed it to .apk afterwards. When all else fails you should try the stock Android browser which is what I always use for downloading.
Glad to hear ya finally got it downloaded as an apk.

This launcher is nice. Thanks for the link.
I'm getting a bug where it defaults to a dock that looks like the original ADW one. Anyone else getting that? Restarting the launcher fixes it.

I have had that happen a time or two and all I did to fix it was rotate my nook to portrait mode then back to landscape.
Just a heads up, v1.4 beta is now available from same thread. Has a few fixes and a few new features. Most notably, right and left side docks.
Don't know if the aforementioned bug was fixed in this release or not. Let me know if that bug pops back up, will do the same for y'all if it happens to me.
Sent from my GTablet running CM7
The addition of side docks and a centered bottom dock finally made me switch. So far its good
It's interesting and pretty slick already... I tried it for about an hour and then went back to Zeam.
I wish someone would create a launcher that let me specify which edge of the screen I want the dock on and then have it stay there even when rotated from portrait to landscape and vice-versa. The icons themselves should rotate, of course, so they are always facing up, but I want them to rotate in place, not move to another "wall" when I rotate the device.

Yes, I'm fully aware of that function. However the only method that is allowed is the default keyboard option. Know of a specific keyboard app that is bigger, nicer, ans easier than the stock cm7 keyboard that works on all system apps and dolphin mini?
Thanks
First "Enable" then "Long Press" ...If your phone cant enable more keyboards, you might as well throw it out the window for an iPhone now.

Please don't take this the wrong way...
If you download a keyboard.. for example the "Gingerbread Keyboard" from the market, (Which is the one I use and looks much nicer than stock and is resizable to fit your needs). Then you go into the settings menu and enable this keyboard from the Language/Keyboard options menu. Then you go into a text message or something and longpress --> input method.. you WILL see two keyboards there, one Android keyboard, and the other will be your downloaded keyboard...
If you choose the downloaded one, it will systematically
change your keyboard across all apps within android to that one...
This is what I was speaking of... and this WILL do what you are asking...
If this is not clear please let me know..
^^ What a nice guy you are

Just tried downloading gingerbread keyboard. It says package file was not signed correctly. I'll try closing market and try again. I'm running the latest cm7 for the atrix.

I installed hackers keyboard and it doesn't show up in the input method list. Trust me i've done this so many countless times on none cm7 roms. Just never tried it in cm7. I believe it will not work. I don't like that comment above where the guy seems frustrated explaining it to me. I already know exactly what to do. I am doing everything 100% correctly. However because of the fault of cm7, will not allow any other input method other than stock to show up in the input method field. Please confirm.

By any chance have you flashed any kernels?
May be that if so...
Also, try reinstalling the rom if it's not too much trouble..
My last time I loaded CM7.. certain widgets would never show up in the widgets list...but after I flashed a second time, it would work.. Its real finicky.

I figured out what I was doing wrong. I have to only select 1 keyboard at a time even know it lets u select several at once. Kind of weird. Anyway Gingerbread fixall is pretty damn solid and I like it a lot. Not quite as amazing as the keyboard on Hyperdroid HD2 roms but it's a lot better than stock.
THANKS BRO
BTW - I pulled the latinIME.apk from the Hyperdroid hd2 rom and corrected permissions and I get force closes after reboot. Maybe it's because it's not QHD so it simply won't work. I wonder how easy it would be to port it over? I really love how that hyperdroid hd2 keyboard looks and it's the easiest to use.

I noticed that if the keyboard installs as the same name as a keyboard you already have it will only show one when you long press. I have found that if your third keyboard has a unique name it will show as a third choice ... but I'm glad you got it worked out, I like the qhd one in my last post, it installs as 3vo keyboard and is kinda awesome transparent!

Couple newbie questions from DAGr8's Alpha 2 ICS

1) The haptic feedback on pressing the Home button feels ever so slightly delayed compared to how it was original in GB and the other GB ROMs. Could be in my head. Anyone else experiencing this and if so, know how to fix it?
2) Apex launcher that is included in the ROM seems cool but to put widgets on the home screen it says I need to install it as a system app or have root or something. I have root of course - how do I get it as a system app?
3) When I try to install the Chrome beta browser it's giving me "Error - Error processing purchase" dialog. Any ideas on how to fix this? When google searching this problem it seems like it might be on Google's end and I should just wait it out.
4) People in the dev forum are talking about some multi-dpi fix. I didn't run that since I have no clue what that is or what they're talking about.
5) Also people are saying that the VM heap is wrong or something on this build. I have no idea what that is or how it will effect me.
Okay I think that is all for now. Thanks!

Might be a little delayed, it's a leaked release, so anything is possible. I haven't noticed it. Don't think you're going to fix it.

You move the apk to system/app using Root Explorer or another file manager that has access to the root directory.

Multi-DPI fix are for people who are running their phones with a DPI (Dots Per Inch) that is different from the stock 320 DPI. A lot of people use an LCD Density of 240 which causes some poorly (read Samsung TouchWiz apps) written apps to scale badly on screen, like the dialer. If you aren't changing your DPI then you don't have to worry about the fix. They won't hurt anything, but they're not needed for you.

I'm the wrong person to give details on how the VM Heap works, but the stock ICS leak uses 256 and people have claimed performance improvements by reducing the VM Heap to 128 or 64. I've got it at 128 and it seems to have improved performance, but I cannot say for sure.
You can change LCD Density and VM Heap with apps like ROM Toolbox. You can also move Apex to system/app with ROM Toolbox. It's a rather useful app.

Are you using the stock swype? The Collective have nice themed swype keyboards, check in their Theme thread, they all work great.
I use this swype on all ROMs, no issues or freezes, now you will have scroll down and to find the "Galaxy Note Swype", only has two type themed, I use the ICS-Stock-Swype-v6-Beta-326-GNote, on every ROM I have tried, no problems. Ensure you read the directions, what works for me, I uninstall the stock swype, reboot and then just install the apk and I am good to go.,
Plus I like the dark theme.
Yerp I stand corrected just went thru the site again...
"Welcome to Da Swypes. I have always loved Swype ever since the beta program started but always hated the look. I have been making themes for Swype from the beginning but was too afraid to share due to the SWYPE terms and conditions saying we cannot share the apk with unregistered users. Since then they have been many other people making themes and trying to do metamorphs to theme it to keep within the T&C but I got fed up and decided to just post them anyway. I have posted my themes on many sites to share my themes but have had them closed from Swype complaints. Well this came to no surprise to me so I will keep them here and just post on my twitter and Google plus pages the links. I have some other forums that have kept them up until they get heat from Swype to close the threads. So please DO NOT POST THESE LINKS ON ANY FORUMS!!!"

[Q] 4.2 keyboard on CM10 (FXP149)

Hello! I am the only one, who can't manage to get a working gesture typing 4.2 keyboard on FXP CM10? I flashed several ZIPs and installed APKs but none of them worked with gesture typing. The keyboard itself works perfectly, but the swipe function doesn't want to.
Why don't you download the apps like swype or swiftkey as they might offer the functions you need and also some keyboards support themes so you can apply themes on them...
Hope I helped,
Regards,
Abhinav

Why don't you download the apps like swype or swiftkey as they might offer the functions you need and also some keyboards support themes so you can apply themes on them...
Hope I helped,

After all these tries, I tried swype and swiftkey too. Both of them quite good, but they eat a lot of memory (~30MB) beside the original android keyboard. But now I removed some not too important apps and kept only swype (beta). I will see how it works, thanks.

Yes ofc, I checked, unchecked the gesture typing and reboot several times, nothing. But now I am quite well with this Swype keyboard (except the +30MB ram use). Thanks guys

You can look here for the xperia sx keyboard that also has swipe but I am not sure if it has mdpi support: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33774862&postcount=1404 and the portal has a story on a new swipe keyboard that you may want to try: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/kii-keyboard-offers-free-alternative-to-swype-and-swiftkey/
If you really want the 4.2 keyboard, then pm me and I will send you the one that is working on my device.
Sorry for the previous post about making sure you turned on the features of the keyboard...it is just one of those things that frequently gets over looked
is it possible to compile the 4.2 keyboard from sources or is it a gapp now? if it can be compiled, can it be backported to 4.1?
It's already out there, both for stock and aosp, but i had the same problem with gesture not working. I'm using the xperia s and it works fine. Swipe and swiftkey eat ridiculous amounts of ram and also do random connections, i stopped using them after very little..
I went looking for where I originally downloaded the 4.2 keyboard. It was from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1964663
There are 2 zips, one that contains just the apk and that one is working for me on a ST18i, but mrmako777 also has a version in case the apk alone doesn't work and also contains a required lib file. So if the apk alone isn't working, maybe you can try the 2nd zip in his post.
yeah but i would like to compile it from source, and yes, Swipe and swiftkey eat ridiculous amounts of ram.
