2.1 is old, why not run 2.2?
Also, are you CDMA? This is an EXTREMELY common problem, and is WELL documented in the FAQ. Please read it.

Did you really read what he just said? He clearly states that he is running froyo 2.2 and that he is using the startup from the 2.1 eclair build

That's helpful...
My point is still valid.

You might wanna post what's in your startup text so we can take a look. Although, your phones a tilt 2 so it's gsm, so make sure Force CDMA is unchecked on whatever startup utility your using. Also, your not in airplane mode in android are you?

Mine does this all the time, and I am on CMDA, It starts up in Airplane mode, I just turn off airplane mode, power off, restart and it works on the Sprint network on the next boot. Seems to be hit and miss.

touch pro 2 on t-mobile
hi all.
i have the same problem.
i am using the latest ver of android you have here (2.2).
all is good but after 15min~ i get no-service.
i am working with the t-mobile ver of the touch pro 2.
and i am on an Israel carrier (gsm-3g).
and help?
thanks!

Is the force CDMA setting disabled? Just how us CDMA guys need it set to 1 for our network to work, you GSM guys need to set it to 0 for your network to work

the force cdma it's off.
i have signal, but after a while i get no service...

Hrm. Probably a bug.

Hey i was having the same problem and couldn't figure out what was wrong for the life of me. Turns out it was my startup.txt, make sure you get the right one according to your model, a list of them is at the bottom of the FAQ page
on the Project Android Google site
hope it helps!
the forum won't actually let me post the link, but its the main site where you should have gotten your build anyway

Any fix to this yet? I know it is a pretty old problem, but I'm running Tilt 2 GSM and still run into the same problem with the 2.2 froyo build even using the newest kernals. If I go back to Eclair, no issues. I did a search but didn't see any answers. Thanks

not getting signal.
any fixes?
im using xandroid 2.2.1 asop.frx03.21.11.10.full_package

any other ideas? gsensor seems weird too not doing landscape/portrait correctly.

Ok here's my problem. If I set force_cdma=0 I get signal and everything works fine for roughly 30 seconds, then locks up. Setting force_cdma=1, FRX04 works lovely jubley BUT I get no signal.

agreed, perhaps someone can add this guys startup txt in the config listing for "ATT Tilt2 GSM"...

that guys att tilt2 startup txt worked for me.

Not even sure all of the stuff in that startup.txt is needed. Mine:

This matches with the latest info I received from arrrghhh
He advised that these were deprecated:
msmts_calib=0x9f.0x39a.0x35c.0x78
pmem.extra=1
He advised about the same commands for SD card issues, and that I should consider changing dcmedics command pm.sleep_mode=2. sleep_mode should basically always be 1, but you can try 0 if you wish.
From FAQ:
Sleep Modes: (pm.sleep_mode=) in the startup.txt
This is supposedly for topaz/rhodium that I found on the xda wiki:
'4' will do "wait for interrupt", no change in arm11's clock or voltage
'3' will do "wait for interrupt and ramp clock", the arm11's clock is lowered to 20MHz instead of 300-500, and voltage is lowered too.
'2' will do "app sleep", arm11 is still on, but put into low power mode (registers are still saved)
'1' and '0' will totally power off the arm11 (so we have to restore registers and things ourself), don't know the differences between them.

Linux in XDAII Himalaya

Hi, I´m from Spain and my english is a bull ****, but somebody can said me which version of linux can install in my himalaya? and How...
Thanks a lot.
There is a linux called Mizi Linux which can run on smartphones, but I think it's CDMA only (and I dont think they have a port for Himalay devices).
If anyone knows the answer I would be interested too

Hi Again

Somebody can help me? I use the Haret program Correctly?
Thanks
Hi all.
When I realized that it would be possible to install a kind of linux in my XDA II i got very happy, so I went quickly to try it...
First I have to say that I´ve got an spanish XDA II, tsm500, but i changed the ROM, and now i´ve got the Windows 2003 Second Edition 2.06.
Well, maybe it doesn´t works for you ´cause you´ve got to change somehing in the startup.txt that you have to write before you upgrade it to the XDA.
Look, this is what you´ve got in the startup.txt :
set KERNEL zImage-2.6.3
set MTYPE 448
set INITRD "\Storage Card\initrd-2.6.3.gz"
set CMDLINE "root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc ramdisk_size=14336 keepinitrd"
bootlinux
I have chagned a little bit the text:
set KERNEL "\Storage Card\zImage-2.6.3"
set MTYPE 448
set INITRD "\Storage Card\initrd-2.6.3.gz"
set CMDLINE "root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc ramdisk_size=14336 keepinitrd"
bootlinux
Now, it works sometimes jeje. Yes I said sometimes, and not at all, but I think that I have advanced a little bit more. It works sometimes cause the first time that i executed the heret.exe it worked, the thermometer changed to red and the eyes of the penguin changed but our procces finish here... I can´t advance any more...don´t know way. Maybe some incompatibilities with w2003se and this heret versio...
Cheers!

Custel has made this pretty easy. He has two cabs located in the windows directory, one that disables the proxy, and one that restores it. You need to run the one that disables it.
In case you cannot find these actual files, go back to Custel's thread, and check, I believe, the 2nd post. He offers a cab to install links for each of them in the programs directory.
Hope this helps. I run his ROM and have no problem at all with my wifi.
Good luck,

Internet not working in Android [solved]

Hi,
I have been playing around with Android on my Niki300 (20 key, XDA Star, official O2 Germany ROM) for a while now, but I was not able to connect to the internet.
At the moment I am using the Ion-Android build found here: http://vogue-android.googlecode.com/files/Google-Ion-2009-09-12.zip
My default.txt looks like this:
set RAMSIZE 0x07000000
set RAMADDR 0x10000000
set FBDURINGBOOT 0
set MTYPE 1724
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz

I have also set up the same APN in Android. Modem App claims that it connected, but it didnt't. No connection symbol or working connection
I have already tried different Radios: 1.58.16.27 (originaly supplied with my phone), 1.58.21.23S Modded, 1.64.08.21K and 1.71.09.01K. It did not make a diference, so now I am back to the modded 1.58.
I hope someone can help me with this...
Greetings, mblaster
Internet
Turn your internet on in wm before you go to android
Thanks, unfortunately it didn't work for me either... Everything else seems to be fine, phone, sms and various apps work. Only internet is missing.
Another few things I have noticed: During the last bootup of android I got a force close error of com.htc.privider.. doesn't sound promising. Modem App seems to crash, when I use it after I made a call. Without a call it says "done" on startup and something like "already connected" after i press connect. After the call there was no status on startup and a hangup on pressing connect.
Any further suggestions? Or is there perhaps a better android port out there. I tried the Hero port from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544965 but it hangs in a loop during bootup on my phone.
Thank you for helping,
mblaster
Hmm, I also use the Hero port from NemanjaLo it it worked for me, only sending sms give's me a problem.
Maybe you can find more info in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550541 or ask there a question.
Hope this helps
Thanks for the link, but I already have tried to follow those instructions without success. I managed to get the Hero image working by now. I works like a charm for me with the Ion basefiles, again except internet access. I am not sure if the problem lies in wrong apn settings or somewhere else. Perhaps I can test with another sim card in the afternoon.
Does anyone know where I can find the relevant log files for the modem/internet? I tried "logcat > log.txt" on the phone, but I did not find anything that seemed to be relevant to my problem.
mlaster
€: "logcat -b radio" seems more interesting...
€€: The Modem seems to be initialized with a strange IP as a parameter:
"AT< +CGDCONT: 1,"IP","internet","38.103.41.10",0,0"
The ip has nothing to do with my service provider (o2 germany), and also is not the dynamic ip that i had in wm. It is also not somewhere in my apn settings (neither in android nor in defaults.txt). Any ideas where this comes from and if it may be the cause for my problem?
OK, I found a workaround for that problem. I am still not sure what the cause is, but i suspect that the dialin number for a gsm phone is not dialed properly. Another thing might be that pppd is not started properly. If I have some spare time I will investigate that further.
My solution is a script that looks like this (where it says "surfo2" there should be your carrier's apn):
#/bin/sh
/bin/killall pppd
/bin/echo -e "AT+CGDCONT=1,\"IP\",\"surfo2\",\"\",0,0\r" > /dev/smd0
/bin/sleep 2
/bin/echo -e 'ATD*99***1#\r' > /dev/smd0
/bin/sleep 4
/bin/echo "startppp" > /smodem/control
Click to collapse
I called it "net.sh" and placed it in the root of my sd card. After android has booted I run it with the terminal from the devtools (#su / #cd sdcard / #sh net.sh).
The script dials the dial in number *9***# and starts the ppp deamon. After running the script (sometimes twice, don't know why) the internet works normally. Connecting and disconnecting via modem app works too. I tested this in both android configurations described in one of my older posts in this thread.
Basically the dialup should be done on boot via ppp-on-dialer from the initrd. Dont know what goes wrong there...
I hope this information is useful to someone, perhaps the developers (btw: thanks for this great android port).

[HOWTO] Android on Startrek

I'm happy to announce that, thanks to the awesome work done by the wing-linux project, it is now possible to run Android on the Startrek. Well, kind of.
Limitations
As of now, functionality is pretty limited on this hardware. The telephony drivers do work, and they automatically pick up many carriers like AT&T, but the most important apps for placing phone calls (Dialer and Contacts) will crash if you try to run them. This is a known issue related to the phone's lack of a touch screen. Audio playback is unsupported, though I've found that the microphone works during phone calls (which I've placed using commands via SSH). The external LCD only displays white.
Interestingly, Android is about as responsive as Windows Mobile on the device. There is no option (yet) to install the OS permanently; Instead, wing-linux installs to an easily-removable file on your SD card (required).
Instructions
Before you begin, make sure you have about 300MB of free space on the microSD card. (wing-linux requires installing to the microSD at the moment).
UPDATE (Nov. 10 2009)
The new wing-linux 0.4 release includes Startrek support! You can skip the list of instructions below and just install wing-linux normally. See their site for more information.
Download wing-linux (site) and extract it to your computer.
Follow the normal instructions for installing wing-linux, pretending that your phone model is the HTC Elf instead of the Startrek for now.
[*]After wing-linux is installed, browse to your microSD card using your computer and open the folder named "linux".
[*]Download the patched version of zImage, attached to this post.
[*]Replace the "zImage" file in the "linux" folder with the patched version you just downloaded. (This adds support for the Startrek's keypad to Android.)
[*]Open the file named "default.txt" and change the first line, from "set MTYPE 2372" to "set MTYPE 2487". (This tells Android that we're using a Startrek.)
[*]Save everything, place the microSD back into the phone, and start wing-linux again.
[*]After waiting a few minutes, you should have a fully navigable Android desktop!
Button Layout
I have attached a handy button diagram to this post, but the basic ones you need to know are:
Android's "MENU" button is the Startrek's "Home" button.
Android's "Back" button is the Startrek's right softkey (above the Hangup button).

Yes, I mentioned that. This isn't a final or polished release; it's just to play around with.
Works pretty good! none of the letter keys seem to work but , i did get the on screen keyboard to come up once but now i don't know what i did to get it to come up. I don't know how to remove widgets from the screen once i add one. Also how do i turn it off and get back to windows? Do i just have to pull the battery? Great job though! i can't wait to see if it will get fully functional!

EDITED ... I understand !
Update: Now with less hackery!
The wing-linux project has released version 0.4, with Startrek support built-in. You no longer have to do the special steps outlined in the original post. Hooray!
Does the 0.4 update offer any more function than the last one? I'm downloading right now but, i thought i would ask.

Other than having Startrek support already included, it shouldn't be much different from 0.4pre. I think there is a file manager application, now.

thanks . now it is installed !
booting is slow ( maybe for first time )
Glad it'd help you. Ya, booting is slow and you have to press red button (end call) when it loaded to a stage with the ANDROID, then you will only greet with the Android logo. Enjoy!
Hi everybody
so cool ! I wish full ability of android was accessible !!
more questions : can wing linux complete development of this project ?
I know some linux developers , can a linux expert remap keyboard or run other parts?
what about other packages like phone , bluetooth ? how we can have complete functionality of android on startrek?
can anybody answer?
MTYPE 2487 in default.txt
doesn't work with qtek 8500, must change to 2372.
With this change I can boot linux, but after setup, run the calibration utility, and startrek isn't a touchscreen device as you know. How can bypass this?

[Android] Myn’s Warm Donut

Update: New release (RLS 5)
-Comes with 'rogue tools' for overclocking and setting display density will need an update over market to support nike, myn told me he will push it to the market during the next day or so)
-feels smoother, connectivity seems to be a lot better (I never had a faster browsing experiance on my nike than with this build and opera mini), rejoining network after lost signal also seems to be faster
-nice new weather/clock widget
-if you use installd version, the androidupdate.tar from rls4 is still necessary for powermanagement
Myn's new (16.03.2010) Donut android build runs quite smooth on nike! Finally a decent alternative to Ion on nike.
Get it from the vogue forums (SQSH version):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619980
Here is a link to the basefiles I am using:
http://84.23.71.227/kerneloftheday/RootfsBasefiles20100318.zip
The kernels are from dzo's branch with a few minor fixes (vibration, irq-wakeup, red led blinking when in sleep mode). Additionally the kernels should work with enabled HW3D in eclair with boot parameter hw3d.version=1 (not tested yet...).
HowToInstallInANutshell:
-delete old android files from sd
-extract basefiles to sdcard
-extract system.sqsh from myns package and copy to sd
-if you are on a nike100 make sure deafault.txt points at the kernel without vibration (included)
-otherwise default.txt should be fine, most parameters are ignored anyway.
-run haret
-be happy
Impressions:
-sleepmode 1 ok, wakes up, red led blinking. Battery life seems ok, but i only tested a few hours...
-very fast
-many locales, not just english like in good ol' ion
-quite stable net, nice apn autodetect (just had to select from two alternatives), working google stuff
-still not working: bt, incall volume, cam

********** UPDATE ************
Installation with the NoRootfs Method is now possible with working net and powermanagement. This gives us the possibility to use the Themes and the default font and everything else that can be provided via androidupdate.tar
See the Wiki for installation instructions. Make sure that you have the provided 'androidupdate.tar' (see attachment, file is in the zip archieve) in your andboot folder along with the androidinstall.tar when installing.
To install themes just copy them in you andboot folder (must be named androidupdate.tar), reboot into menu -> update (-> fix permissions).
PS: Doesn't seem to work with eclair builds, but could work with other donuts
PPS: This should also work with ext2, if someone tried successfully please let me know. €: Works with ext2
Additionally the kernels should work with enabled HW3D in eclair with boot parameter hw3d.version=1 (not tested yet...).

you've added hw3d support? I tried to do that - all that I got is 3D without textures or simply nothing - black screen. I did same as in this commit in repo.
I did the same. The only build i saw it working was aosp eclair for kaiser (gallery3d worked). Otherwise i got the same errors. I read that the other devices suffer from similar problems.
Ps: Writing this on myns donut. Everything stable so far.

Hi mblaster,
works like a charm here. Very fast and stable. This is the first ever Donut Build with stable working Data i've seen....
Only Point is, that icons are really very small. Seem to me even smaller than in the old Cupcake Releases with 320x480...
Tried higher settings for lcd.density, but screens don't fit than anymore.
Have you tried it with a non modded system Image ?

ECLAIR
because you are starting another section of the eclair?
already has almost no one accessing the other thread ...... I have a question there for two days and no one responds more ..
I am very impressed with the progress of the android in my eclair NIKI100 (20 keys)
is making calls, receiving messages, all volumes of the system are working (calls, music (I had to install another player why that came standard did not work), alarm etc. ..) I'm using it for three days, battery lasts long , it does not heat the unit, since I use it in everyday life.
now I have some questions for you:
is so difficult to operate the headphones?
I love listening to music, especially in the way of work, if possible, please someone do work ....
particularly hate wm, I think one day we niki users, we can get the WM and definitely use the android, (because you can try to do everything, are the gods of HTC ....).
another question, I can change the theme of the eclair? wanted it like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=600154, it is possible??
I'm not charging, just begging! rsrsrsrs
Congratulations XDA....( GODS OF HTC)
Hi there,
together with mblaster's combination of basefiles in the first post of this Thread, the sqsh Version of the image in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591104 works also...
mblaster; seem's you've found/made the ultimate combination for Donut Images. PERFECT !

Theming with Metamorph
I been reading around on Vogue's thread and Metamorph catched my attention. It can style up android theme. Is this apps runs well on this build. I am confused because based on this site http://www.androlib.com/android.application.stericson-xda-metamorph-xnFD.aspx it can only run n Rooted phones. What is rooted phones anyway and can this run well in nike100 with the android build posted in this thread?
When is the nand version available? I think the only thing missing now in nike100 are camera and vibration features. Great job!
More Power!!!
Anyone encountered the "Half Size" icon problem ?
This is, when there's a reload of the Home Screen, all icons are suddenly half the size than normal. I had this after leaving the Browser.
Couldn't find a solution for that behaviour. Any ideas ?

You have to disable PIN in WinMobile afaik for all builds so far.
About wifi: The stickies say no wifi on nike. Never.
"never ever say never" ;DD
thanks anyway for Pin code tip.
Network problem
got two bugs here.
1. browsed from wm then switchd to android. i cannot connect anymore when in android. even if i reconfigure my apn.
2. switching from phon mode to airplane mode and airplane mode to phone mode will stuck in airplane mode.
@mblaster
how to enable apn autodetect?
@mblaster
First of all, good idea with the new wiki. Hope to add some things in the near future...
had the idea of creating system.sqsh files of all variants (Themes) of the original Vogue Thread. So i downloaded one of the androidupdate.tar files, und untared it "over" the files of the original ones in the androidinstall.tar file. Made an ext2 System and then a Squashfs System with genext2fs.
But no success....
Booting stucks obviously just before the Android Setup Wizzard should appear. Any Ideas ? Perhaps a permission problem ?

me again...
just got a flash in my brain...
probably a story about the rootfs because of different load types (NoRootFs vs. Classical sqsh File) ?
so what about mounting the original sqsh Image and untaring the update "over" the rootfs ? ...
@lagloose: Might be an issue because the androidupdate.tar files are made for norootfs. Perhaps its time to move on to an installed version without rootfs...
@ebautista: Sorry, but I do not maintain myn's build. Perhaps it would be a good idea to report bugs in myn's thread in the vogue forums. APN detection worked for me right out of the box. Do you use the basefils from this thread?
€: your brainflash was faster than my typing... but perhaps you should at laest try to set the right permissions, it might work
Hi all,
Just tested sqsh Image from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=628459. Not completely tested but seem to work also with our basefiles.
I'm working on a way to get themed Images for us Nike Users. Still some problems to solve, but shouldn't be that difficult...
As soon as i've found a way, i'll state it here.
Greetz, lagloose
I really would suggest to move on to NoRootFs for various reasons:
The theme packages are already available there
The basefiles are still supported and regularly updated, while SQSH is dying out, and as there are very few devs for nike we should try to profit from the progress made on other devices
There should be no drawbacks, just a few more MB on sd-card for the system
The installer for systems / updates is extremely useful (theming, installing your favourite apps in one shot ...)
Give it a try, you will find a little howto and links to ressources in the wiki
mblaster,
€: OK, I have good and bad news. The good news is that it seems like you can keep your datafile after switching to norootfs. The bad news is that sleep doesn't work anymore (same settings/build/kernel) -> The problem that prevents us from using more recent builds seems to exist inthe basefiles!!!
Basically thids leaves two possibilities: Either its in the part of the nonexistant rootfs that now is part of the system, or (my guess) it is in the initrd. At least it does not seem to be a problem with the kernel.

..same here after trying. I also couldn't get a Data Connection. Obviously Network Device ppp0 is missing. So i'd guess, that your guess concerning the initrd is correct. Unfortunately, i won't have the time to look after the problem in the next days. So for now we still have to use the SQSH files, until the problems are fixed...
hi, mblaster,
i want to download the file as "Get it from the vogue forums (SQSH version):
but i cant aceessed "mediafire"
Could you email to me a file that it can running on nike100, thnks
my mail is [email protected]
See Post 1 for UPDATE!

I am quite sure now that the initrd is fine and the problem is in the Rootfs, or better what is left of it. The latest working basefiles include a Rootfs dated to 2009-11-16. There is a newer Rootfs on sourceforge (sometime in december 09) that shows the same problems (net/powermanagement/shutdown). As parts of the rootfs are included in the androidinstall.tar images, thos errors are still there. My update file (now included in post 1) overwrites those files with versions from the 11/16 rootfs. That leeds to a working system (with the new initrd).
Unfortunately the update is incompatible with the newer eclair builds that are around. Seems like they use another rootfs that rejects the old files...
Does anyone maintain a git repo of the rootfs? It would be interesting to patch the problem for good
