Is anyone using a U20a in America? I've been waiting patiently to purchase one but it appears there are still no US sources yet. Expansys-USA has shown the item available for pre-order for months but has no ship date. There are some sites that claim to stock the U20a but I am reluctant to purchase online from an untrusted source.
Are English U20a's even available?
Yeah theyr available. I saw it in a Seattle mall but forgot which one.

Doesn't seem to be available yet. My U20a is unlocked and unbranded. Working flawlessly on AT&T 3G. Thought maybe an update would come early. This is my first expreience with Android. It came with Roadsync for Exchange sync with email, contacts, calendar and tasks. Seems to work but not perfect.

My phone and PC companion software are telling me new SE software update is available. The update begins and then it says no software available??? I was so excited about getting the 2.1 update!

I have a U20a with At&t. Got mine from Sony couple weeks ago, rooted, updated with Brazilian 2.1. The only thing I have to change is the keyboard from Br to En.
I bought my fiance a u20a off of negri electronics. She got a notification about 2-3 weeks ago for an update that wasnt for 2.1 but then about a week later she got another notification for the 2.1 update.
I downloaded the Sony Update Service and it worked fine. 2.1 installed with no probs.
Haven't had much time to play with it but I still don't see native Exchange support. If Roadsync is the only way to get Exchange, looks like I'm in the market for another phone
I got my u20a about a month ago on ATT using Brazilian 2.1. Works very well. I use roadsync for exchange, it seems a bit slow, but fully functional, no problems.
Do I read it correct is that usa version of 2.1 is out?

I bought mine from smggsm.com which is in CA. It was shipped from outside the US via Miama to me. Not sure how to verify if it is a US version or if it even matters. It works well on AT&T.
I have friends with other Android phones and they have Exchange support. I assumed 2.1 on the U20s would include that.

I'm in the UK on Orange and I am unable to update my x10i. Although I have heard that other UK customers on other UK networks have found this update to be available for the x10i's. Some of this may come down to the provider maybe??

Yes. It's provider based. But Telenor in Sweden has the update since I've got it. However, my phone isn't locked to Telenor!

I bought mine from Expansys UK SimFree and it is showing 14 as the latest version available for me.
how does this work exactly? if i put a Telenor simcard in my phone it will be upgradeable? what happens if i unlock my phone? will i never be able to update it ?
why cant i just use the SEUS which right now says there is an update but cant install it.

i4rsh: it depends on what brand of SW your phone has from the beginning it does not rely on the simcard. So if you buy it with Telenor it probably has the Telenor SW in it.
I have the same problem, so i called SE and they say that it seems to be some tech problem with update service atm. So wait until it is solved.
Hi there, i'm using a UK GSM Htc Hero and i have been patiently waiting for the 2.1 update to arrive! I noticed many people on here said the first update out of the two had arrived, and looking at the official HTC website, the actual 2.1 update is available. Now my problem is i'm using a standard Hero on 3, and i am yet to recieve any OTA updates at all!! my friend has a standard hero on T Mobile and hes already downloaded the first half of the update! what am i doing wrong???!!

Depends which network you are on...
If your are like me and stuck with T-mobile then I estimate a minimum of a week (they are testing it right now)
Orange: Expected in the "near future" again minimum of 1 week
Three: They confirmed it is going to be released Mid to late July...

Thanks a lot for the reply, its a shame they do this, first US gets the update and finally when it's available in the UK we have to wait even longer. I actually rooted my Hero today and installed the official 2.1 update with root access, its very good
I'm on T-Mobile, but I couldn't be bothered to wait for T-Mobile to release their version of 2.1 as they'll long it out, so I just used a generic HTC rom and ta-dah! 2.1 on my G2 Touch

I'm seriously considering getting a RAZR as my next phone. I just have one nagging doubt..
Only the O2 network is carrying the device 'officially' in the UK. I'm an Orange customer, and contracts are available for the RAZR through Carphone Warehouse, Phones4u and various online retailers on the Orange nework. However, given that the phone isn't officially offered by Orange, will it receive software updates OTA, or will I have to start rooting and installing ROMs manually?
Probably a noob question, but I'm coming from an iPhone 3GS so, even with the ton of research I've done, android is kinda new to me.

Bought mine sim-free in the UK and received the first OTA update as soon as I switched on. OTA isn't limited by provider.

Check out Tesco mobile - I got mine on a t-mobile contract there and the handset is SIM free with no operator guff on.
I popped my Vodafone SIM in (wife gets the t-mobile SIM) as soon as I got it and I was good to go.
Have received a couple of OTA updates since mid-Dec.

Really? I got mine 2 days ago. I am on UK t-mobile.
When you do get it, one tip. Once it is installed, reboot then leave the phone alone for 20 minutes or so. The walkman app would constantly crash for me. It was only when I looked a the debug logs that I found it was rebuilding the media database. This took ages.
I miss the volume on the lock screen, access to the settings menu from the menu key on the launcher, but otherwise its all good. Oh, and Gallery is now called Albums. Took me a few minutes to work that out.

Sim free UK.. no sign of ICS, TBH the phone works very well with 2.3.7.. more concerned with the wee blotches that pop up every so often.

so where does that leave us folk who bought sim-free handsets?
i'm actually with t-mobile, but i bought the handset sim-free because i was so sick of my wildfire s breaking down....actually went to t-mobile to try and buy this handset from them and upgrade my contract at the same time, and got told that there was nothing i could do until my contract was up next october (2013), which is why i bought it sim-free :s

Same here, and it's not as if there's any bloat in the tmobile firmware only the tmobile app that you can download from the play store
there ain't a Generic NL ICS either
I checked this morning and no update was available, but plugged my phone in this afternoon and it says an update is now available (I have already updated to .75, so it must be ICS?). It goes through the process of downloading the update, but at the install stage it says no software found! Very frustrating...
Edit - I'm using PC Companion, and the problem seems to be that as soon as it starts to install the update the phone shuts down and loses connection to the PC, so the update fails...

Yep, with 3. The new software version is 6.1.A.0.452, which I've just checked definitely is ICS. SO frustrating I just can't get the update to install. The update downloaded fine, but when it gets to the actual update stage the phone shuts down and the update fails.
So 3 are actually good for some things! I actually wrote to David Dyson this morning asking to be released from my contract - they have messed me about massively - broke my phone then in comical fashion failed to fix it, and then offered me a HTC Chacha or HTC Desire C in it's place!!! I would have laughed if I wasnt so offended!
Edit: 7th time is a charm and I now have ICS on generic UK with 3...
SEUS should work most of the time, PC companion sucks... :/

Before I checked the forum I searched google for a UK update and found that Customers on the network 3 can now upgrade to ics. I upgraded manually using the Switzerland flashtool thingy bob. It's slower at times but does look a lot better

is seus same as sus?
i've tried sony update service (the one where you switch phone off, hold volume while connecting usb), tried pcc, tried ota from the phone, always says i'm up to date.
I was just thinking where are the updates for the uk version of the z ultra haven't seen one yet others have received 4 or 5 strange. 14.1.B.1.510 firmware Z Ultra C6833 seems to be the only firmware we have and sony yes we have bugs too.
Don't think it's been actually released on the high street yet only selected online retailers might have something to do with it

I got my XXXXX.532 through the PC companion app. I don't know if you have a build prop setting that would be different preventing an update but I have the HK intl version C6833 in USA (Part # 1275-2581.2)

Did you get it from instore cause i been traveling the west midlands to get my hands on one nowhere stocks em and half the places ie Carphone and phones 4 u both saying they don't know when they will be getting em. im expecting delivery of mind end of month and would cancel if i could find one on high street.
Yeah instore, my local o2, which is rather small had two instock. I went in this afternoon regarding my missing headset and they still had one, so i would have a look about, also its very easy to debrand from o2 firmware.

No way cheers ill be popping into O2 tomorrow then like i say been all over loads have got the plastic display units in but when i ask about stock or release i just get funny looks like im talking another language lol.
