[Q] Can't Change Ringtones/Sounds (Froyo) - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Earlier today I upgraded my Streak using the QDLtool method to the official Dell 2.2 Froyo rom.
I tried to change my ringtone to something else, and when I select a different tone, the window with the list of ringtones closes and the ringtone stays as the default.
The same goes for the SMS/MMS notification sound as well.
Is there a fix for this?

Oddly enough, I did a reset, then picked some system ringtones to see if maybe the format for the ringtones I had made was wrong or something, and it worked fine.
Feel free to ignore this thread.
Thanks!

Mine is doing that also. I'll have to give it a hard reset and see if that fixes it.
Thanks!
Update:
Did a reset (power off, hold up/down volume, 1 for reset), Still will not do any ringtone
but default if selected. Does it need to have the built in reset from the clear storage app?

Same problem here. Used QDLTool to update to 2.2. Settings>Privacy>Erase All Data didnt help. Neither did a hard reset.

[Q] Ringtones not showing on Call Ringtone List

Bit of a strange one.. When I try and set a custom ringtone for a call, I can't because it doesn't show any other than the system defaults but it does show the custom ring tones for all of the notifications such as text/email/system notifications...
Any ideas to why? If there is another topic for this please point me that direction for it?

This was an issue on my Motorola Milestone.
For me all I needed to do was create a folder called “ringtones” (all lower case) and it found them. Haven't had time to put them on the Atrix, but I'm sure it's the exact same procedure...

I have this folder, that's the bizarre bit. They show up under every other status ringtone selection other than the actual ringing tone menu lol?
U should try Ring Extended.. It works for me.. search on the market.
if you are using gingerblur / gladiatrix reboot the phone and you will see the ringtones. these scripts have an option enabled to stop updating some folders on the phone.

This is occuring on a non-rooted phone, and it was fine until I plugged it into the computer and unplugged it again and since I haven't been able to fix it lol.
And I don't want to use an app for a basic system function. I've managed to manually set it through winamp anyway now.
I am experiencing the same issue. I'll use a 3rd party app to assign a ringtone (like ringdroid or mp3 ringtone maker) and it use that ringtone for a while and then magically revert back to the the phone's default ringtone at some point.

Can you send emails with your gmail app? I can't, and that is sofa king frustrating you can't even imagine. I have no idea what went wrong, but I've tried asking here, and I've done some extreme things to get it working again, but nothing seems to help short of restoring a nandroid from early September; but that only works for a few hours before is back to not sending again, AND I have to update a bunch of apps. Anyone have a solution? What exactly does gmail need to send??? I compose the email and click the send button, then the button goes grey and absolutely NOTHING else happens until I hit another button (except send, since its grey and no longer responsive).
Sent from my rough sketch of a Vibrant on a brick.
For your first problem. Search the development section and find the thread for miui lithium. In the first post of that thread is the apk for dsp manager. With dsp manager and voodoo sound (via voodoo control app) you can increase your phones speaker volume.

Oh goody. An all caps post about an easily Google-able problem. How rare!
For experts? More like for gerbils.
Perhaps it is for noobs but you don't answer my question! For me you are a noob too.

[Q] Sound

I'm having an issue with my music not playing. I went into my volume controls, where I can adjust, individually the volume for either media, alarm and notifications. When you hold and drag the bar, either volume up or down, wherever you stop you are given an example as to how loud it will be at this setting. For both notification and alarm I am give example. When I hold and drag the media bar, no matter where I stop, I don't get an example. Ive tried to play the music I was listening to this morning and my player would not makes sounds but the counter for the length of the song was advancing. I downloaded another media player in hopes that it was just the stock I had but that didn't work either. What can cause this issue and any ideas on what I can do to fix this issue??
definitely haven't heard this issue before...
can we get some more information on what you've tried to fix it? what had you done before it stopped playing media sounds?
do you still hear ringtones/alarms etc...? (when receiving a call)
are u on any rom? rooted? any mods/tweaks/hacks?
do you gear music if you plug headphones in?
did u try clearing data on music app? or clearing cache partition from stock recovery?
last resort may be to try a factory data reset either from recovery or maybe setting menu...
Yes, my is phone rooted with one click rooring but have not ben able to complete the recovery so I haven't done much. The rooting thing is new to me. My bf told me about in sept and I decided to try it out about a week ago. I have uninstalled the stock media player and I downloaded google media player thinking and hoping it was just my player. Even with the new one I still can't hear any music. I can fast my phone ring and if someone texts me I hear that tone as well. This issue started last night and I'm stumped on what else I'm can do.
at this point it really depends on if you are worried about losing your user data...
u know....messages etc....
BUT since you are still stock you might have some luck by flashing a rom...
when flashing a rom you need to wipe data/cache from system recovery app
private message me or join me on an irc channel and I will happily walk you through installing the bootstrap app to be able to flash a rom. will also help ya put in creating the backup before flashing anything in case you want to get back...
---------- Post added at 10:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:55 PM ----------
oh yeah
u DON'T necessarily have to.flash a rom
wiping data from stock recovery may help ya
u.will just.lose all texts, apps, app data, contacts(until u restore using backup assistant if u use it)
it is EASY to do...
but try a cache wipe first
u wont.lose ANY data with a cache wipe...
let me know if u need details how...very easy

browse to the top of this page in your browser, to your initial post, and click edit in the right corner of the box. then add [SOLVED] to the title and click save, you may have to go into advanced edit.
from the XDA app as ASH said long click your initial question and choose edit

after u press edit in your original post for this thread u will be able to add/delete from the title/subject....just add solved and press save

[Q] U8150 FusionIdeos 2.7.10 & messaging app issue

First I would like to appreciate the hard work Fusiondev has put into this custom built ROM & say thank you! Am loving it,so much better than stock.
I however have run into abit of an anomaly. The default messaging app seems to have persistence without the option of removing it. It also shares dialer app function of storing the simcard's pin no. thus if you attempt to kill it,it won't die but you'll instantly receive a notification requesting you to enter your pin code.
It would also have been nice if the edge/2G/3G connectivity notification wasn't tied to messaging notification sound settings, its a little odd when you have a voice notifying mp3 for messages then again you here it on edge/2G/3G connectivity notification. Can anyone confirm this issue coz I followed instructions to the letter when installing FusionIdeos 2.7.10. I used clockworkmod & didn't forget to wipe/factory reset before flashing. I also can't tell how many characters am typing in the messaging app.
Installing a third party messaging app like Go SMS Pro still fails to relieve the default messaging app of its persistence & causes message/notification duplication. Is there a fix for this issue?
Anyone pliz help! I re-installed FusionIdeos and all I get now is improved battery life, the prob still persists even after fresh download. I can't get into boatloader mode (something I later also discovered). It just displays a blue 2 @ the bottom right of the screen & I have to remove the battery to boot normally. Anyone help me.!
Have you tried uninstalling the default messenger app (using a system app uninstaller)?

Infact I'd love it if you could suggest a good app that does just that coz I have installed apps alone without games & all am left with is a measly 57MB. How would one untie the edge/2G/3G notification tone to the text messaging notification tone?

You could try this app: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.danesh.system.app.remover&hl=en (always works for me). You could just try changing the message tone.

Let me see, where do I start. Alright that app means serious biz. I played around with it and it cost me my keyboard hence wasnt able to post here until now. As of now I have been through CynogenMod 7.2 found that it cant surf the net, has no list of APN list and now am back. When I used system app remover to take out mms.apk (messaging app) it went with the system keyboard. It was extremely persistent in giving a "force close" error right until I rebooted the phone. So I flashed CynogenMod 7.2, realized it cant surf then looked for an online pc and had to download a third party keyboard.
What effectively happened was my system now has alot of free ram instead of free space, its very fluid in performance especially with Go laucher Ex effects all enabled. I really wish there could be some FusionIdeos update separating all this ties within the system. I believe the reason why this ROM is so big is because of the language packs coz the CynogenMod 7.2 ROM left me with 142MB to play with but this one does only 67MB as of now. Is there anyway this language packs can be removed? I still cannot boot into bootloader mode
Bump, anyone?
Bump!
I know there people who can help even @ this time of the year. I could use some help here.

Yes I am able to.
As for (power+red+vol.down), what happens is, the phone reboots then remains in a sort of an idling state where nothing is happening,I have been reading around and now it seems that is what they call bootloader mode,if that's it then yes. Probably its idle coz there isnt a zip to update to. Is that right? I also read in some forum that you can flash clockworkmod recovery using bootloader mode with a custom zip but only in Evo,havent found for u8150-D yet.
I believe I can get more freespace if I can remove the language packs that I dont need. Know how?
How can I remove the language packs that I dont need from this ROM?
Da#n!!
Bricked my phone again!
I may a noob going through puberty (brick-phone stage) trashed my recovery menu, trashed my rom and ram, but am not interested in building a dynasty of expensive brickhouses (deaded ZTE blades,U8800s,U8150s......)
My phone is up & running once again, so
Bump!
Considering the heading of this topic, I would say that my problem has been solved by simply removing the default messaging app, therefore this topic can be bagged and tagged. Link2SD also solved my space issues dramatically... even my launcher 10MB is auto linked 2 sd and works flawlessly!

[Q] Volume setting crashed

Hi. I'm posting here because i'm not allowed to post in the Android development section.
I have problems with the volume setting (& buttons) of my Legend. I'm working on my university thesis which consist of configuring a smartphone.
For that, I'm writing an application. I tried to change the volume setting by using the setRingerMode(int) function. When I launched my code on my phone, I could see in the notification bar that the phone changed the ringer mode (vibrate or silent icon disappeared). Aaaaaaaaaaand now:
1) volume is mute (but still vibrate !)
2) when I press on the volume button on the side, it shows the Toast of the volume control, but volume don't go up nor down. It stays on "0".
3) when I go to Settings > Sounds, it force closes.
I tried to reboot the phone. Doesn't work.
A friend suggested a hard reset. Not a bad idea in theory. But if I have no idea what's wrong, I'll keep doing hard reset forever.
Also, my phone isn't rooted, so it runs the basic Froyo. (& I can't root it for my school)
Can anybody help please ?
My only question to you is why would want to be posting a question in development section? You have done the correct thing as per xda rules "NO QUESTIONS IN DEVELOPMENT SECTION"...
Best thing for you to do is do a backup of the stuff on your phone, I have found the best backup app for non-rooted phones is js backup then do a factory reset.
Sorry 1 more question have you tried other volume apps from the market? There are heaps of them.

Any idea why the setRingerMode function crashed the whole thing ? As of today, the getRingerMode function returns me the value 53, which is impossible
The app I'm writing for school HAS TO be able to change the volume (& other parameters), so I need to understand what I may have done wrong.
For the rest, I can only reset my phone ...
Do I have to set something else than just :
- get an instance from AudioManager with getSystemService(Context.AUDIO_SERVICE)
- use setRingerMode(int mode)
Do I also have to set the volume for example, or retrieve an audio stream ?
Found the solution. Silly me writing silly code. No need to reset my phone & now my code works perfectly !
