Sluggish Operation after .71 upgrade - Gen8 Android Development

Thought I would start this thread for those who have had problems after the latest upgrade.
I had to do a full wipe and thought that had fixed my problems. Then they returned.
I finally decided to try a different launcher.
I was using Launcher pro and was getting sluggish response and lots of force closes. My battery was weird and not charging right, Battery drained after leaving it on Lock-screen. it was not responding after trying to unlock it and forcing me to reboot. All kinds of issues.
I changed to ADW.Launcher and it works much better. Everything i described went away.. odd huh...
I am not sure what the issue was, but I was using the Facebook widget, Beautiful Home Weather, and the Calender Widget in Launcher Pro. No idea if this was my problem...
Anyone else have any nice workarounds? Similar issues?
JW

Odd
My results were kinda opposite after the upgrade (Full Wipe Also). Prior to the .71 udpate I was using GoLauncher (Great Launcher by the way) to increase performance. After the .71 update I've found that ADW, Launcher Pro and GoLauncher slow down the OS and rotation quite a bit.....

i've been using Zeam Launcher since update and i'm definitely in love with it. Very fast and stable and definitely very minimalistic the way i like.

Launcher pro Options
I actually went back to launcher Pro because I doscovered a few options that completely changed my overall experience. I used Zeam as well, but after finding out these options in Launcher Pro it is now snappier than when I tried out Zeam. Let me explain a few things that might bring you running back to my new experience and rediscovery of my Archos.
First of all I am running 7 Widgets on my front page (Pandora, Deezer, Beautiful Home Weather, TV Switch widget, CPU monitor, Google Search (Non Voice), and the default Music Widget) I also have the Wifi, BT, and Accelrometer On/Off widget from beautiful as well. So, needless to say, I was having issue loading this Home page with any launcher.
At first I had my screen doing 8x8, I switched to a 6x6 and saw some results, but not enough. then I did the following, and each step got faster and snappier.
Launcher Pro --> Preferences
general Settings:
1. Keep in memory - Check this!
2. Enable Scroll Widgets - Check This if you use them (and I do i.e. Facebook and People widget and calender widget with launcher pro)
3. Motorola Droid Hack - I have seen no difference either way with this.
Home Screen Settings:
1. Enable Virtual Looping - Love this CHECK!
2. Number of columns - I chose 6 (was having issues with 8)
3. Number of Rows - I Chose 6 (issues with 8 again)
4. Auto-fit item - Check this or it will look wierd when you change landscap/Portrait
Dock Settings:
Purely up to you
behavoir:
1. Auto Rotation - It will be easier if you didn't do this, but I just check this and use the widget to prevent it from flipping when i dont want it (i.e. when you showing someone how cool your archos is)
Apperance:
Up to You
Advanced Settings (Important):
MEMORY USAGE SETTINGS (this is the one I never looked at and am glad i did)
1. I set the preset to "HIGH" this seemed to not affect my memory or anything bad, but changed in speed is noticable)
2. Use Home screen chaches - YES!
3. Home screen Cache type - NORMAL!
4. Builds cache as needed - I chose NO on this, I would rather it keep my homescreen in memory so it doesnt have to build it each time I go through it
5. Clear cache on exit - NO, this Archos is powerful and has room to keep your homescreen in memory, I have had no memory issues as of yet.
6. Pervent Force Closes - YES! (Why the F not)
Advanced (The rest of the settings)
1. i would uncheck "High Quality Scrolling" it reduces performance
2. Same with 3D drawer, Uncheck this if you want, I hardly even scroll though my apps cause the screen is so big..
I hope this help you or anyone who needed some clarification on these things.
After changing my setting to reflect this, I have no more crazy issues with the Archos 101, and after they get the new updates out, i might even be able to scale back these setting. I am now having better experience than I did even using Zeam!!!
thanks,
JW

Recomended Apps - XT720

I'm making this thread both to share what I feel are good apps and to discover other apps for myself. I have not installed Dexters 2.2 or rooted yet (though I intend to) so I'm not going to list anything that requires it, but feel free to do so yourself.
So:
Lockscreen: GOTO Lockscreen. I saw this a while back but never actually checked it out. It was featured on DroidLife today so I decided to check it out now and it's great. Great, elegant look to it, great functionality as well. I've been using WidgetLocker for ages and it doesn't compare. There were some issues at first but after rebooting everything seems to work perfectly for the most part(I saw someone mention this as well in the comments so I did it). It's also on sale right now. Might be a bit of a drain on battery.
HomeLauncher: LauncherPro (Plus). I love the look and functionality of this and most of all, the widgets (which are greatly enhanced by Signal's themes -that can be found in Android Themes section). Truth be told, ADW (/ADW EX) probably has more options and functionality at this time (and you can use Colorize Widgets app to replace LP widgets for free). For now ADW might be better, though I'm just waiting for LauncherPro rewrite to happen (going so slowly). GoLauncher as well is fantastic. As is Zeam. There are many great options right now (and so many more on the horizon).
Whatever the case, something that is crucial when using one of these (at least for me) is to select the option to "Keep in memory." I think all of the above have that option (not sure about Zeam). My biggest issue with launchers is that my screen always redraws itself so much (this is a problem with XT720 stock launcher as well), so I have to wait forever for my icons and widgets to load itself, which is really annoying. I've tried things to reduce it, but the only thing that ever got rid of it was to select that option. Now using LP with that option and no lags at all.
I also recommend getting home switcher for easy switching between launchers.
EDIT: SPB Shell 3D
Keyboard:
Stock XT720 keyboard isn't bad (for me). I tend to alternate between that and Swype. I prefer stock keyboard for use in landscape mode. Once I'm rooted I plan to install that app that lets you choose a keyboard for portrait mode (i.e that would be Swype for me) and another in landscape (stock).
EDIT: Stock Gingerbread keyboard
Music Player:
Stock is decent, but nothing special really. I do like the album cover flow in landscape mode though. I alternate between that and Connected music player, which is the ripped music player from the atrix and droid bionic I believe (I'm not sure where to get it since that thread has since been locked). Winamp is also pretty good. PowerAmp has a lot of features, but you get annoying popups after two weeks unless you buy the full version ($5). I'd love to know what others use.
Some apps specifically use stock music player so that's another reason I use stock. i.e. when using GoTo lockscreen, the lockscreen changes when you're playing music to give you music player controls, but only seems to do when using stock music player.
EDIT: Google Music/ PowerAmp
Browser:
Stock is not that great. Has that nice bookmark cover flow in landscape mode, but in terms of functionality there are better ones. I use Dolphin Browser HD now (blue theme). Best UI for browser out there currently imo. A lot of people seem to love Miren and Dolphin Browser mini, for reasons I can't understand (everyone says they are super fast but I never notice any difference on my already fast browser).
EDIT: Opera Mobile
Games:
Really loving Stupid Zombies right now, it's a lot of fun (though has slow loading times). Ninjump is great for quick little fun. Angry birds also remains fun, though repetitive. Would love to see what else runs great on XT720.
Customization/Widgets/:
Beautiful Widgets is great and has a huge range of themed clocks and toggles. The recently introduced "Super Clock" was a great improvement. So much customization with this. Colorize Widget is great if you're using something other than LauncherPro, Signals has themes for it also. Widgetsoid and MySettings, are great for quick access to settings.
Task Switching:
SwipePad is just phenomenal and has a great UI, I recommend you check it out if you don't have it already. Together with long press on home button, I have amazing task switching going on.
File Explorer:
File Explorer is a must for me on my XT720. It's how you can install APKs and browse your sdcard and everything and change things easily. ES File Explorer is great for that and has a nice UI.
There's more that I wanted to add I'm sure, but here's this for now. Feel free to share what apps you use on your XT720.
I really like Zeam mainly for the small footprint & speed, I've used LPP & the widgets are very cool. My preferred keyboard is SwiftKey, once you use it for a while the predictive text feature is really nice. I'm still using the stock browser, that along with ChromeMarks gives me access to all my desktop bookmarks. For music I've got MusicMod (Froyo) for the widgets & the MIUI music app. I'd also recommend SIMI Clock (Time, weather & battery level in 1 1x4 widget & a built in launcher) & SIMI folder widget. I also find SwiFTP very usefull, just fire up the FTP on the phone & copy files between the phone & my pc without a USB cable.
Lockscreen: default--dexter froyo
HomeLauncher: GoLauncherEX---no lags n a lot of options.....nice interface
Keyboard: swype---easy n handy
Music Player:winamp---no equalizer but fast n flexible
i ll recommend mixzing also.
Games:angry birds, world`s hardest game, fruit ninja, ninjump, soccerball, drop, pinball deluxe, brick breaker---all f em addictive
File Explorer:andrpzip, astro
Tools-- android assistant, set cpu---both help a lot in makin ure phone fast n unlaggy
Great post. I loved some of the suggestions.
Customization/Widgets/:
I use Sense Analog Clock. It gives me SD Storage, Internal Storage, Internal Memory, Battery Level and Temperature in one place. Edit: it gives me weather, time, lunar phase (even tough I don't use that info) and quick access to my alarms as well.
Music Player:
Because of the media scan bug, I've tested loads of music players. Most of the players based on folder navigation did not impress me. So I chose the simplest one for now: Gtunes. Once the media scan is back to business, I intend to come back to stock or winamp.
BTW, where do I get Connected music player?
Games:
Andoku is a must have for Sudoku lovers.
I'm starting to play Pocket Legends, but I don't see it getting very amusing in the near future...
Memory Trainer is nice if you wanna test yourself.
Misc:
Pulse - for news
Evernote - for note taking and journal
Gtasks - to synchronize my gmail tasks
AppMonster - to save my apps

Absolute system has many excellent tool, boot animation downloader included.
It's a paid app, but totally worth it Sherry, euh i mean Lucy .
I really like the functionality of "BusyMe (Lite)" which automatically set your ringer to vibrate (or: to quiet) during meetings on your Google Calendar and then return to normal afterwards.
No more hassle due to phone calls during meetings ;-))

Taken quite a while for this thread to get any attention.
Some more apps:
Pulse
Speed X 3D
Afroid (XT720 light)
Apparatus
Cover Art Downloader
Androidify
Google+
SPB Time (I love this alarm clock though it's $6 as opposed to $2 when I bought it)
PowerAmp (really looking forward to the massive V2 update)

I had this problem too. Really annoying. The home screen would come up and the touch screen did nothing. I was finally able to get a different bootup screen, but I had to work through a couple before I found one that wouldn't have that problem. I'm currently using the one where the apple logo is displayed and then pulled off the screen by our favorite android sporting a red and white stripped suit.
I noticed a couple things while messing around with it:
1- the boot animation sounds never worked for me
2- If I tried copying over larger boot anims, I would run out of space, but the CLI never told me that, so only part would be copied. (I think this has to do with the memhack/cache tweak)
3- When the touch screen went out I would just use ADB to recopy the original bootanim, then restart and then touchscreen would work again. (Save you a recovery).
In the end, I had to put a smaller file size on there but it's better than that eyeball bootanim, that was freaking me out lol.
With Dexter's Froyo installed and Gingerbread theme upgrade
So:
Lockscreen:
See Music Player
HomeLauncher:
LauncherPro (Plus), Launcher7(I simply enjoy it for being slick, and its status bar, but with a black status bar from gingerbread I've no need for it anymore.)
Slidescreen, this is a beautiful launcher that can also be ran as an app overlaying your current launcher.
If you simply want information, details stats, this is the one for you
Slide screen is slick and its advertisement for the free version, is an add to get the paid version.
sidenote--Home Switcher for Froyo
Keyboard:
Better Keyboard 8
Music Player:
Cloud Skipper
Serves as both a very accessible player and has its own lock screen with full access to the player itself upon hitting the unlock key.
Browser:
Opera Mini
xScope
Games:
Fruit Slice (not my slice of pie but some may like it, ran well)
Glow Hockey (Great game, if it supports vs over wifi, then wow)
Hex Defense (Plays like defense Grid)
Ninja Dash
Ninjump
Pew Pew (was interesting, but a little awkward for me)
Return Zero (interesting racer, and not too taxing on the system either)
Speedx 3D
YooNinja
Customization:
Metamorph is what i use for themes at the moment. May change to something else later on.
File Explorer:
OI File manager
I love saving space, and OI looks simple and efficient and runs extremely smooth.
Media Player:
Mobo Player
Management:
1-Click Clear
Appkik
As for games and excess apps, the ones that can't be ran from SD i backup with Appkik for later use to free up memory and space on the phone.
@ OriginalLucy
I used the following two videos for switching the boot animation
Search youtube for:
ANDROID Boot Animation (How-To Change It)
CyanogenMod Boot Animation
Got it running to replace that really bad boot animation from Dexter's Froyo
Great rom but the Boot animation was driving me bonkers.
Hope this helps out.
An easy way to change your boot animations is set up a folder on your SD card named Boot Animations and put the zip in there. Then go into /system/media and copy the original and put it on your SD card in case something ever happens and you can replace it with the original. Take your new boot animation and just replace the one that is in /system/media and reboot.
Obviously make a back up before you do this b/c not all work well.
Also watch your size. While they do look cool, some take up a ton of space.
wondering why no one mentioned some of these:
- "LBE privacy guard" --> control & take away the rights of your apps, e.g. don't allow facebook to access your contacts or send SMS , in my opinion one of the best apps so far. only for rooted devices!
- "history eraser"
- for users in Germany: "Öffi" -> great app for public transport, in germany we call it "öffentliche Nahverkehrsmittel"
- SMS Backup & Restore
- Titanium Backup
- WhatsApp -> like SMS , but works via internet connection and sends messages via internet -> no costs for sms

GO launcher is super SLOW. Slows phone down.
I have lag when opening app drawer, I have lags ON app drawer, I have lags on HC's, change fling speed is helping only a little bit.
Uses too much RAM.
For example: I have beetween 60-90MB free when using ADW Ex, even after extended use.
When using go, I have beetwen 40-60MB of RAM free. After extended amount of free RAM is around 50MB. Task killers don't help.
This is launcher is very future rich, but it's so laggy.
I've been running GO EX for about a month now on my Incredible without any performance issues. I personally think it's the best out there. I previously used ADW EX and love it as well, but always find myself going back to GO EX.
it's true it's too slow, but apart from that I think has no problem and is better than the ADW.. Whith the Honeycomb theme looks great
go launcher?>
i wonder whether it is come from my country ,china . try it later.
Personally I have had no problems using this launcher, combined with the go contacts and dialer, along with some widgets it is very feature rich. Now my phone is rooted and I have freezed a lot of bloatware (blockbuster wtf?). Considering this is a blur replacement, just how much blur services can be frozen if I were to run all the necessary GO apps?
Using a Motorola Droid 2 Global, Rooted.
I think Ex version isn't so laggy. using auto memory manager with go launcher ex in agressive mode, i'm getting around 85mb of free ram.
I tried some early versions of go launcher and it was VERY laggy! But 2 months now i use it and it is very fast! Also it is updated every week. Not like launcher pro that has to be updated 2 months now!!!! The same with ADW. I think GO is the best launcher out there
The way my phone is set up I manually clean the ram but even after a while of leaving the phone on i might barely just slide under 100mb(assuming i am opening up browsers and uploading stuff). Now when i clean up the ram i always end up in the 230 to 270mb free area right after cleanup.
Gemini App manager and Gemini widget. Plus a lot of frozen(blocked) unused apps along with auto-runs tweaked to my preferences.
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL using XDA Premium App
For me, the best out there is Launcher Pro + ... I've NEVER had lag issues and it run's super smooth, and with all that widgets and new theme updates it's great. Yes, it looks a bit stock, but for performance is the best thing.
Go Launcher... The Best
Go Launcher is the most complete and customizable launcher I know.
Today I installed and uninstalled GDE... .
I tried adw-launcher or launcher Pro, but nothing, everyone is missing something with the other.
Go Launcher has it all ...
and it is free (the others are not).
I have in my X8 Go Launcher and runs great. is not slow.

Hidden features of the RAZR

Hey guys,
I've been giving a GSM RAZR a thorough going-over this past week for an upcoming review, and in doing so have found a few interesting hidden features. Thought I'd start a thread about 'em, since I haven't seen anything mentioned here (Or elsewhere).
- First up, installing an alternate launcher automatically sets the new launcher as the default. Odd that Moto would do this. Also odd is that the long-press home task switcher/app drawer is specifically part of the Blur Home, so you get whatever task switcher your new home app feels like defaulting you to (Usually Android's standard one).
- You can still create shortcuts to the Blur Home's app drawer and app drawer groupings in alternative launchers (Long press on empty home space/add shortcut/app groups), so you can - for example - use Launcher Pro or ADW with the Moto app drawer by placing a shortcut to 'All Apps' in the dock.
- The above shortcut business also applies to stock Blur Home, letting you use the app drawer groups like folders. That's not really 'hidden', though.
Next up, we're going to need to install Launcher Pro. I'm not a huge Launcher Pro fan, since its development seems to have dried up, but this works regardless of whether Launcher Pro is your default launcher or not. As above, however, installing a new launcher will automatically set said new launcher as the default, and short of uninstalling it or installing a third launcher/a home switcher app, you cannot set Blur Home as the default again.
You can get around that by placing a shortcut to the Blur Home itself on the Launcher Pro desktop. It'll also pop up in 'recent apps' once you have Launcher Pro installed. Strange.
Anyway, the reason we want Launcher Pro installed is that it gives you many more options when placing shortcuts on the desktop of any launcher. Under shortcuts (Or in Blur Home's case, Shortcuts/App Actions/) is a new category called Activities. This lets you place a shortcut to any part of an app that can be called as a separate activity. Effectively, you can place a shortcut directly to one part of another app - although, be warned, some of these turn out to be shortcuts to 'Force Close', or 'Reboot the phone' because the OS doesn't expect these apps to be opened in this manner. Some are genuinely useful, however, and some are a little more interesting..
Of note:
- You can create a shortcut directly to Universal Inbox, rather than having to tap Messaging, then Universal Inbox. Yay!
- You can get directly to the Albums view of the crappy stock music player, or the Folders view of the gallery, avoiding those awful splash screens you get when launching either of these normally.
- You can get directly to different views in the calendar, like the Diary/Agenda view.
Now, it gets really interesting. Some of the app activities you can make shortcuts to aren't accessible through the apps themselves, the very definition of 'hidden'. Some of these are obviously hidden because Moto cheaped out on the firmware and bundled things like an FM Radio app into the stock Music player, which doesn't work because the RAZR doesn't have an FM Radio to the best of my knowledge (Even if it did, the app doesn't do much beyond demand you insert headphones and endlessly scan for channels).
- There's a debugging tool for the homescreen, which has settings for things like 'orientation changes', acceleration factor, and 3D widgets. None of these seem to work, unfortunately.
- The most interesting - profiles for the homescreen. If memory serves, a few previous Moto phones had this, and it has of course been an element of Sense for some time. You can choose from Home, Work, and Other, and they do work - widget layouts will be saved. It tends to force close when switching back to one layout from another, and occasionally changes the wallpaper to the Droid 3 stock with the three lines (Funnily enough, that wallpaper isn't in the wallpaper gallery for the GSM RAZR) but it does work.
I'll chuck some screenshots up shortly, and additional features as I find 'em.

[Q] Anyone know why widgets "freeze" in ICS?

This is a problem that seems to occur only in ICS, but I don't know more than that. It didn't happen when I was running stock, stock/rooted, or Saurom. I'm using the Apex launcher but a quick Google search shows similar reports from people using Nova.
I'm running Flappjaxxx's ICS IMM76D UCLE2 Base (but I haven't updated to the new release that came out today). I've also noticed this on ICS Objection (with Apex launcher).
So, here's the issue: occasionally widgets will "Freeze" and stop updating. I've seen this with Beautiful Widgets (the clock will stop updating, so it will read 3:05 when it's actually 3:30), Android Pro Widgets (specifically the calendar and bookmark widgets--the calendar will not let you advance to different months, the bookmarks widget will not update to show new bookmarks if you refresh it), and the TweetCaster Pro widget (it will not update to show the latest tweets when you press the refresh button).
There is still some functionality with the widgets--they don't die completely. I can still touch the clock portion of Beautiful Widgets and get to the alarm settings. I can still touch individual days in the APW calendar widget and see appointments, and touch the header to launch the full calendar, and the APW Bookmarks widget is still scrollable, clicking individual bookmarks will launch those pages, and touching the header bar will launch the browser's default page. But for some reason they stop updating.
Things I know
1. Restarting Apex launcher appears to reset the widgets. They start fully functioning again.
That's about it.
RIght now I"m trying to determine if JuiceDefender might have something to do with it. I don't think it would because I've used JD on my other phones with no issues... HOWEVER, none of my other phones have ever run ICS. I don't know. Maybe ICS is different. I know JD had issues working with Gingerbread for a while...
Anyone have any thoughts? Questions? Experience with this? It's a bit mystifying. NOw that I know restarting Apex launcher gets everything working again it's a lot less annoying than it was (rebooting every time was a pain) but I'd still like to figure out how to make it go away.
I had same problem with beautiful widgets. my task killer was my problem.it was to aggressive
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
Same problem.
Have this problem both with Omega 7.0 rom and cyanogenmod.
Some widgets freezes after some minutes when phone is in standby mode.
Just by tilting the phone and let the window be landscape and then tilt it back again will activate the widget.
But it is annoying....
i had the same problem with widgets freezing; i uninstall go weather widget and go launcher and now it s fine again !!
edit: oops it came back...no freeze with Apex but it's still freezing with Tsf..
reedit: i found my problem: it was "clever contact widget "that froze the others widgets but only with TSF shell (not with Apex!!!)

NOw that I know restarting Apex launcher gets everything working again it's a lot less annoying than it was (rebooting every time was a pain) but I'd still like to figure out how to make it go away.

i'm using a motorola atrix 2 with stock ics and this's happening to me also , it's not any app that's causing this problem , it's a bug in ics as to many .. searched gooogle .. no launcher can help , i tried nova prime and apex but same happens to both , but now i'm on stock blur again and it doesn't happen so frequently but still happens, they say that only google can help in this case , they have to give an update .. so we have to hopw that they'll give us one soon .. until then we have to restart the launcher
note- try an anlog clock on your home screen , or anlaog and digital both home screens in a one home screen , you might notice that digital clock freezes when the analog clock works fine , i don't know why but that's happening to me ..

Simple ICS lag fixes

I have tried this on both my Razr ICS and my gf's Galaxy Note ICS and it works.
On both phones, they are pretty fast until you start to install stuff.
After applying these, the phone is much smoother even with around 200 user apps.
1) Use Autokiller memory optimisation, root needed.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rs.autokiller&hl=en
This is a common method which android veterans already know, which is to change android's internal autokill values. This is not the same as task killers!
On both phones, I use "aggressive" preset.
For other tweaks like V8 supercharger, it's recommended values are closed to autokiller's "Extreme".
I added more tweaks to the post.
2) Turn on Force GPU rendering under developers mode. Most games and apps seem to work fine with it on.
3) Turn on background process limit to 4: I thought this is interesting (from JerseyFF) so I tried it out, seem good for daily use.
(update: after a while setting for this will revert to standard, there's no way to fix this yet)
4) Use Nova launcher. (root required for Motorola widgets)
The default launcher is smooth but it likes to reload every now and then (even with default autokill values). Tried Apex launcher but it's not as smooth as default launcher. Nova launcher is close to the default launcher which allow more tweaks and and yet it is buttery smooth. Do not update to beta though. I tried it and it's a lagfest.

VM heap size app no longer works after ICS update. If anyone knows how to fix that, please share.
Feel free to add any more tweaks or tips to make RAZR ICS better.
Is this at all somehow related to the Background Process Limit that is able to be set under Developer Options with ICS now?
It has a Standard Limit setting, No background processes, and At most 1 (through 4) processes for options.
Does anyone know what the value for Standard is?
In background process limit, it limits a number of background apps running, while the autokill values limit the number of bg apps running based on the amount of memory left, and killing off lower priority processes first.
The default values for background process limit is therefore "varies".

Updated first post with more tweaks.
This is my favorite launcher. Smooth... I am using it since I got the RAZR.

Wow the auto killer is quite the find! Sped up my phone allot. Still running quite hot though
Thanks!
Thanks for the info, I'll confirm that upon bootup after applying the Aggressive setting, I tried scrolling around the Motoblur homescreen and thought it was smoother. But then the Superuser allowance for Autokiller kicked in right in the middle of me scrolling around and I noticed quite a difference in scrolling speed, it just suddenly got faster and smoother and the framerate looked as if it had increased by about 5 FPS. I also did tweaks #2 and 3 as well, but I think Autokiller makes the biggest difference. A good find for sure!

Use setcpu and create profiles to set cpu speed lower when screen off and when battery is overheating. There's a free, older ver on xda.
Also you can use juicedefender to make your 3g connection turn off when screen is off. This should also help keep your phone temp down when you're not using it. Note that it will turn itself on every few min to receive whatsapp, mms and emails etc. (not for whatsapp hoes)
Hi, thanks for your tips. I don't know what lag experience you experiment but I hope this works for my RAZR lags. What is happen to my RAZR is that when I enter to apps drawer, non of the icosns appear and instead the "loading circle" takes place until the apps appears. Also when I exit any app and go to home, none of the icons of widget appears, they take half second to reapper.

That's called redraw. Try using apex and there is an option for keeping the launcher in memory so it loads faster

When I first installed Nova launcher, it asks for root access when going into widgets.
Try going to Nova settings ->Drawer-> Check Widgets in drawer (requires root permissions for system app)
Moto widgets like fav. contacts doesn't work well because I can't "pull down"... but it's there, including Motocast widget.
You may want to manually grant Nova launcher root access.

This is why I'm using Nova launcher instead. There's a free version, do try it. It may still take a while to load the app drawer icons after playing a game, but the 'redraw' for Nova's desktop pages are pretty fast. I also liked how it switched to a tablet version when I'm using Webtop mode.
Do try Apex as well. I didn't like it as it felt laggy when I'm scrolling my desktop pages few months back. It may have improved now and many users are complimenting it. As for myself, I have already bought Nova Prime and I'm sticking to it.
