Screen protectors for Blade/San Francisco - Blade Accessories

We have managed to get an Orange San Francisco just now and would like to know if there will be enough demand for making
1. Clear screen protector
2. Matte screen protector
3. Mirrored screen protector
Of course it will be perfectly fitting the entire glass area including the frame of the screen (but leaving the ear piece empty).
If there are more than 20 replies (please specify the type you're interested) then we will bring it to the factory for measurements.
Cheers

Registering my interest. However, I have a i900 protector on my SF which I'm happy with. Can I suggest that you make a version of the OSF screen protector that "blacks out" the San Francisco branding above the screen? IMO that's the only thing ruining the cool of this device

HTC Shift Screen Protector

Hi All, since a lot of us are getting the shift now, i guess it's time to think about which screen protector you are going to use, personally i always enjoy the Martin Field Overlay Screen protector, but they don't seems to have one for the shift yet, what do you guys think? found any good screen protector you are going to use?
Hi,
My shift was delivered with a screen protector, I have placed it on the first day and it looks really good. There was no brand on it, so I cannot tell about the manufacturer.
So far I am vey satisfied with it.

yes, i am aware of that, it just i have been using HTC for more then 7 years now, past experience told me i better wait for better screen protector, because once you put it the HTC one, it's so difficult to remove it, and if you do try to remove it and swap it with something else, you leave a mark on the screen, some user even experience bend and uneven screen because the original one is just so sticky.
There don't seem to be many screen protectors specifically for the Shift yet, I'm sure there will be soon. I fitted the included one but not very well, I managed to get a couple of dust specks under it.
I've ordered some generic 7" protectors from Durasec http://www.durasec.com/catalog/index.php?language=en
I also ordered one of their liquid nanotech screen protector kits, don't know much about it but it appears to be a liquid which you spray onto the screen to form a seal. Should be interesting...
Is it neccessary?
Hi,
please, give me an answer to a stupid question?
Is it really necessary to apply a screen protector. Why don't the manufacturers do it in the first place.
What are the advantages, what the disadvantages. Okay, protection comes to mind as an advantage, but shouldn't the original screen be resilient enough?
I'd really like to here some informative opinions.
I have been using a HTC Vario II for some time now without any protection and I can't detect any scratches.

Has anyone managed to find a decent screen protector yet?
Pantaloonie - how was the durasec one?
I've received them, but haven't got round to removing the original and trying them out. The liquid one is a bit strange, apparently you spray it on the screen then spread it with the included cloth, and it forms a protective layer.... or something. Think I'll be testing that on a cheaper device first!

mmm. sounds interesting!
I've got the original on but I have a scratch on the screen and wanted to remove it to see if its just the screen protector or the actual screen that is scratched. Have tried in vain to get at it to peel it off...
Just managed to get a corner - it came off no problem and thankfully the scratch isnt there! Just need a new protector now, my OCD is starting to kick in. Let me know how you get on with the Duratecs! Cheers

DO NOT by the Durasec. Got mine from Germany, welcome to bubble hell.
Just wish I knew where the original ones are from....
Anyone found any decent ones?
I still haven't tried either of the Durasec ones I bought, as it seems I'll be needing dynamite to remove the original one. It does not want to come off.

I'd leave it on if I were you - I only took mine off as it had a hair underneath and I was losing sleep over it. Took a while but once you get a hold of a little corner it lifts off no problem. I've emailed HTC to ask if they can send me another but I'm notn holding my breath.
Would stay away from the standard Duratec - waste of £8. Let me know if you try the liquid one though!
Hi -
Anyone used the liquid Duratec shield on the Shift yet?

Duratec Crap
Hi,
today I removed the original Screen and tried Duratec, the cheap screen protector. They have also got a hightec version or something like that.
Crap! Crappier! Crappiest sheet of **** you can think of.

But which one is really recommendable?
Thanks!

How did you remove the original screen protector without damaging the display? What is the problem with the Duratec screens?
Hi,
removal was difficult, but I did it. I don't know the exact English words. I used this sticky tape which you wrap up parcels with, tape is of a brownish colour. That I stuck onto the screen protector until it lifted in one corner.
Duratec is thin and cheap material and I guess it is not possible to get it on the screen without lots of bubbles.
Now I have ordered a protector from Brando, was that the name?
We will see.
S.
I really like the anti glare screen protector from www.pocketpctechs.com . I use it with my both my SMT5800 cellphone and my Motion Tablet PC. I'm hoping I can get one sized for the Shift. But my Shift is not here yet so I don't know the size. I can't even tell I have a screen protector with this brand.
screen protector abuse
Hi,
any news about the "best" protector.
In the meantime I have abused 4 or 5. Duratec's cheap ones aren't of any other use than to clean the screen from dust particles.
I tried the Brando "ultra clear" was that the name? Relativ easy to apply, but in the end I fiddled with it too long. Had to peel it off.
Next I tried Brando "plus". Easily to apply, but foil slipped underneath the edge of the screen, when lifting it up to clean off a piece of fluff the protectors edge was damaged.
But the last one is really easy to apply. But, but, they or the distributers just declared them to be for the Shift, originally they are for the eee, how many eeeees were there?
So the screen protector doesn't really fit. At the edges there the foil doesn't cover about 1 or 2 millimeters of the Shift's screen.
Maybe somtime soon they will sell a protector that is for the Shift.
Please, if anyone has got the ultimate protector mention it here:
perfect fit and easily to apply would be nice features.

Hello Harry,
Thank you for contacting ZAGG, where we are Zealous About Great Gadgets! My name is Stephen and I appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
We had a device in our office when we created the design last week. The reason why we only offer the front screen is because when we placed the invisibleSHIELD on the back, it peeled the paint. We are doing more testing on it, because the device we received was a dummy so we want to make sure with the actual device. We do not have a time frame of when we will have that testing done, because the device is expensive, it will take awhile to figure it out if it is necessary or not.
I do apologize for the inconvenience as it is not the answer you were hoping for. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us again.
Thank you for choosing ZAGG. We appreciate your business!

the white version is coated with teflon which is the current slippiest substance known to man. I got a feeling that they might have trouble sticking stuff with contact glue.
yeah thats exactly what they told me. That they had tried to stick a shield but it would not work....
I actually saw some full body coverage on eBay but don't see it listed on the official Zagg site yet. So not sure if it's legit or not.
EDIT: My bad - the eBay listing isn't the ZAGG InvisibleShield, just a similar product by Clear Protector. URL: http://www.clearprotector.com/htc-hero-extended-protector.html

Cheers - I ordered the Clear Protector instead. Not a fan of Zagg IS.
I got a invisibleshield from zagg- hugely unimpressed. They are a nightmare to apply (literally hours), they *gain* air bubbles over time, the edge accumulates dust and dirt, and the adhesion clearly isnt that great- the top corner of mine has moved, crinkling that edge. Sure, nothing's going to get scratched but this is totally not worth it.
in its defense, it doesn't show smudges easily, which is nice. But thumbprints are just as bad as without the shield, making that more or less moot. I'm going to get a soft pouch instead and would reccomend the same to others.

Seconded, I got one for a friends LG Cookie not long ago and it was terrible, although it didn't take me long to put together it just didn't even seem like it was worth the money for what it did and made the phone feel too weird. Not too long after the edges started to peel, get a pouch.
Hi,
Recently I ordered the invisibleshield full body coverage (http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/htc-hero-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php) on zagg web site and didn't seen the warning about the paint:
Warning! If you have a painted HTC Hero, the invisibleSHIELD could peel the paint

I own the white version of the Hero but I didn't know what they mean about "peel the paint"....
So I contacted them :
Question:
Hello,
Thanks for the reply but you don't answer my question. The fact is that there is a problem with the full coverage and the HTC Hero:
According to Zagg web site: "Warning! If you have a painted HTC Hero, the invisibleSHIELD could peel the paint"
So my question was more precise: will the painting be damaged by the full coverage on my htc hero (the white version)?
Best regards.

Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for contacting ZAGG, where we are Zealous About Great Gadgets! My name is Stephen and I appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
The warning is for those that customize or modify their HTC Hero with acrylic paint. The invisibleSHIELD will peel it, the warning does not state, it will peel the paint of the device. I hope that clears up any worries that you have, if you have any other concerns, feel free to contact us again.
Thank you for choosing ZAGG. We appreciate your business!

Well....I think it's a weird answer because I'd never heard about that kind of customization and because the warning only concern the hero
Anyone think (like me...) that it's not safe for the teflon (and not for the acrylic paint as supposed by zagg...), to use the full body coverage according to the warning ?
I applied the Zagg 'full cover' to my Hero last night, it was dead easy to apply, but I'm rather unimpressed with the design. They go to great lengths on the website to stress how the IS wraps around the device keeping it safe, but not on the Hero, the edges - the bits that are going to be the most susceptible to chipping and knocking - are left uncovered.
It hadn't occured to me before I applied it, but I hope the screen doesn't become too 'tacky' to glide a finger across, as that would rather defeat the object of a touchscreen!
Applied my clear protector last night (screen only, didn't apply the back film) and I must say I am impressed with the slickness of the material's texture - in comparison to the Zagg I.S. it is a lot smoother when sliding your finger/thumb across it. One thing though is that Zagg I.S. is cut a lot better than the Clear Protector but it's not too bad. If I was going to choose between the two, I'd definately go for Clear Protector.

what do you mean? The invisible shield doesnt provide a full coverage of the phone? I am still deciding between clear protector and invisible shield.
I also have a clear protector.
At first I wasnt too impressed. The cut on the screen is around 1mm too small along each edge, and a few mm short in length on the rear.
Althought after a few days it has grown on me and seems a part of the phone, phone has lost its smooth touch on rear case, but the protector is very protective!!! I tried a knofe on it as they do on youtube vids. And it really does do a great job, shame it doesnt protect the edges where it would be likely to get damaged when dropped.
Just received an email from Clear-Coat today, who manufacture a similar product, saying that they now have a version for the Hero:
http://www.clear-coat.com/product.php?productid=616&cat=51&page=1
While I was waiting for the InvisibleSHIELD to arrive, I managed to scratch quite noticeably to the right of the speaker outlet (i.e. the metal panel just above the screen). My fault, fair enough. However, I was a bit disappointed when I received the shield as this little metal panel around the speaker is the ONLY area that no protection was supplied for at all.
I figured that I was just going crazy - why leave such an obvious place unprotected? Looking back at zagg.com, it's actually reasonably clear from the picture of the Hero on their page so my fault for not researching properly.
Maybe the shield can't stick to the metal but it's a bit of a shame.... I also have an InvisibleSHIELD for my BlackBerry Bold and was quite impressed that in addition to the big chunks of shield for the larger areas like the back and screen, little bits of cover were supplied basically to make sure as much as possible of the whole body and frame is covered. It also seems a better fit than the Hero shield - adding to a previous comment, it's not quite as good a fit as I was hoping.
I also have the Zagg Invisble shield, but the metal parts are uncovered.
For me it is important to protect the whole phone. That's why I buy the full body. But they have left de metal parts uncovered! And that for $25

Mirror Screen Protector

Its was so cheap i could not resist... 5 screen protectors for 8$...
-quality not one of the best (see bottom part not perfectly good)
-reflections not always straight and has some colors like CD or something.
-its thick about 1mm it feels like solid protection not like the thin protectors which almost unnoticed this one like hardens the screen...
-very reflective but its ok for everyday use.
-after 3-4 days with this protector it did not has eve one scratch... and im not obsessed about guarding my device...i keep it in my pocket sometimes with other stuff... throw it in different places in my car cause i did not buy car holder yet... overall its durability is very good till now.
*pictures from polaris so quality very bad... in real its nor blurry and seen very clear.

usually i use Martin-Fields protector its best from which i tried,
now i wanted to try mirrored one cause it looks good & this is the only one i found... if i'll find mirrored protector from known brand i'll definitely try it cause this one not the best quality.
I bought one of these from ebay and had to remove it strait away! The effect it has on screen visibility is outrageous. Like you said it adds a strange rainbow effect like you're looking at a CD. It also wasn't cut strait. Utter rubbish IMO.
The mirror effect did look cool though, and it yes was scratch resistant
It reads cool and I can't see the pictures....I never thought about using screen protector on my phone so it's...Desides, I always like the phone with large screen. Maybe I should go to ebay and get this one...

UPDATE:
I finally received my invisibleSHIELD the other day. Past by my local kiosk that does the professional install. After 1 hour give or take I went back to the store. Right away the store attendant told me it looked sharp and I had to agree with him. To my surprise it looked better than I thought. I purchased the full body protection and it pretty much wrap the entire body. The kit fits almost perfectly on every curve and holes. The mocha color has a glaze look to it like a coat of glaze you would apply on wood. He told me I shouldn't put it in my pocket or place it in any case for at least 24-48 hours, letting the process take place and reduce the lint and dust. During the first 24 hours, it did felt the rubbery feel to it. It felt awkward at first. However after my first 24 hours, that rubbery feel disappeared / less noticeable. Not sure if I got use to it or it takes a while for the product to settle. Now waiting for ProClip to release its device holder for the T-Mobile version.
Comparison: Screen Protector that came with my HTC Rhodium vs. invisibleSHIELD - no comparison. After couple of days with the stock, there were visible signs of scratches from my nail and stylus. invisibleSHIELD - none. The only thing that the stock has over the invisibleSHIELD is that it was more flush and didn't have any major gap. I can't complain.
Overall: I'm happy with it and I don't have to worry about it getting scratched or dent with the full body kit.
I would strongly advise not getting an invisibleshield. My friend bought one and its not really touch screen friendly. Its very squishy (for lack of a better description) and when using the stylus and or finger on the screen you finger/ stylus gets stuck, almost sticky like. The screen does not react to many of the screen taps or slides.
My friend hated it so much he had to replace it with a generic screen protector (but he kept the rest of the body on.)
Try the Bodyguardz, they're somewhat similar but they are much more responsive and easier to deal with, and you get 2 sets with each one-
http://www.bodyguardz.com/content/accessories/57---2007.htm
I'm waiting for bestskinsever.com to get it. I've been using them ever since I had my Blackberry Curve 8320 and I think they are the best. Works great and without any problems with touch screen devices, I have it on my iPod Touch.
As of right now I'm using the piece of crap one that came with the phone. Got a few scratches on it already, I mean as long as it keeps my screen safe then I don't care.
same here and i hate the one that came with it.
I tried an InvisibleShield on my TP2 last week. It went on easy enough with just a few bubbles that slowly dissipated over a few days, but it is definitely not touch screen friendly - using your stylus with it feels like dragging the stylus through treacle.
Luckily it came off easily enough too....

Did you guys buy the full protector or just the screen protector from bodyguardz? How's the full version? Does it fit well?
Hello, I found one that works well. It is from www.clearprotector.com I bought the entire phone protector and am very impressed. I did have to use a heat gun to shrink the edges a little on the battery cover, but that was because I did not align it very well As for the screen, it did feel a little on the sticky side for the first week, but as of now I cant hardly notice it and I personally dont feel that it had made the screen any less responsive. Overall a good investment vs. a beat up phone.

I have also tried the invisable shield. It is a great product...but not for touch screen devices. You have to oil the screen to get your fingers to slide, LOL. I took it all off except for the back cover protection and went back to the factory screen protector till one comes out that "FITS" and works with touch screens

He is saying the surface of the protector is much more "grabby" then the oem protector or protector's like Boxwave and Martin Fields. It is much harder to slide your finger with these types (body guardz, zagg, etc...)
I got news for you, Bestskinsever uses the same material as the zagg stuff.. I ordered a universal cut your own kit. Its just as sticky as Zagg (which I have also owned before)..
So sounds like body guardz is also the same material, yes?

Boxwave has arrived!

I did a search and saw no thread, so I figured I'd let the Boxwave fans know that they do have EVO 3D screen protectors and other accessories for sale. The weird thing is, they don't have the EVO 3D listed under their HTC devices, or on their front page, but if you type in the name in the search for devices box, you will get the EVO 3D accessories.
Here is a link to the EVO 3D stuff. I personally think that Boxwave make the best protectors by far, so I am amped!
http://www.boxwave.com/htc-evo-3d-accessories/bwdd/ztgg/
Thanks for the heads up, agree with you that Boxwave makes great stuff. Too bad they took so long to produce the protectors otherwise it would be on my phone right now. I'm currently using the screen protectors from FL Superstore ( http://myworld.ebay.com/flsuperstore ) for $1.48 shipped and it's been working well.
Maybe I might pick up a versacharger, it's a nice update from the original design. Did you order from them?

Yeah, I picked up a 3 pack of anti-glare screen protectors. Nothing I've used compares and I'm just going to replace the one thats on there now.
I've been using Boxwave stuff for 6 or 7 years and am 100% satisfied with every purchase. For people that live in the cold country and wear gloves their capacitive screen stylus is awesome.
Quick question for anyone that knows the answer: Do the stylus work with a screen protector on the phone? Basically does it work with the interaction between the stylus and the glass or does it also work if a screen protector is in the way?
Because I have an InvisibleShield on mine.

I would imagine that it does work. Your finger still works when a screen protector is on, so I don't see why the stylus wouldn't...

Dude what do you care you live in Arizona. j/k My kid lives in Ohio and it works with SP and freezing weather.
Yes it does and it works well. I presently have a seidio screen protector on the phone but it also works with the otterbox defender on top of the seidio.
