No X10 family 2.2 updates coming after all... - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

here's the link:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/06/sony-ericsson-no-os-updates-for-xperia-x10-beyond-android-2-1/
what a shame... here's to hoping the bootloader gets cracked and we can have some custom 2.2 roms!

WTF this sux

Wat the heck is this......we just started X10 mini and the updates are finished from SE.........This isn't good......SE is the worst lazy company i ever seen................I am so disappointed!!!

Even if the mini received a 2.2 update it wouldn't contain all the goodies such as Flash 10 and JIT enhancements.

There are claims of a 2x-5x Performance boost over some apps compared to 2.1 Dalvik JIT:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.2-highlights.html
There is also a Flash 10 Download for 2.2 as well: http://www.intomobile.com/2010/06/1...er-beta-2-for-android-2-2-froyo-os-goes-live/
So most things can be replicated between versions (Obvious exceptions including the Kernel). Still, it's a shame that SE don't seem to want to maintain updates on this device

But flash is for devices that uses ARMv7 and higer we got ARMv6 right??

My understanding is that Flash is dependant on the funtionality that the OS offers, Not the hardware (Obviously you need to have enough CPU power).

you are right the flash will run on availability(required) of system OS not the hardware.........didn't know how i done that ,but i was able to install flash 10
when i recently own this phone(July 2010)...........So its seems that hardware is not a concern with this app.

problem is that they released the phone but eventually stopped making an upgrade in the OS ..
they should put either a notice or a fine print that they'd stop releasing a new OS once they have new lines of phone.

Installing flash on the mini is simple - just change the following (in build.prop file)
"ro.build.version.sdk=7" to "ro.build.version.sdk=8"
"ro.product.cpu.abi=armeabi" to "ro.product.cpu.abi=armeabi-v7a"
"ro.product.cpu.abi2=unknown" to "ro.product.cpu.abi2=armeabi"
reboot
install flash from the market or elsewhere
The problem is 2.1 won't recognize it, probably due to "permissions" and the absence of "plugins". I'm not 100% sure but the Flash Player code may include some iterances of "Arm7" substrates in order to run.

It's is a developers source code and if I am not wrong these are for developers to look into and tinker around with.
Firmware for end-user is available via OTA/SEUS/PC Companion as per company's plan generally a few days/weeks after being mentioned on PRTDC.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
This is not usable as a ROM. It's only the Source data that SE has to release as per the Open GPL Licenses....
The only workaround with this file should be to compile some Kernel Modules like tun.ko etc...
As Kloud_ said the firmware releases are sent via SEUS/PC Companion....
Jim
Someone who knows what they are looking for can tell what is included in the update from the source code posted above, though
I'm not smart enough for that

Works on my phone(at least in the picture viewer portion of mediascape). MT works in all apps that support it at all.
I'm currently running:
Firmware: 2.1-update-1
Baseband: 2.0.46
Kernel: 2.6.29
Build: 2.0.A.0.504 (MT update and fix(mt for all apps) with JIT enabled)

They are going to release the Xperia ARC in q1 with gingerbread 2.3 and then nobody cares about the X10.

Guys I updated my phone thru SE today. This is actually a rom.the base band and the build number are different and also could root the phone with flash tools.
Screen shots. Also added the 2.2.11 market and some other stuff like Neo reader and post card which are not really usable. But i Confirm you can root the device,

They did once say they may be able to get multi-touch working on the X10 tho, they have never said they may release 2.2.
It isn't going to happen, never ever will, end of story.
If they did I would prefer FreeX10 anyway, as SE 2.2 would have too much ****e on it
2.1.A.0.435 = poor perfromance
SE update service announced this a while back but ignored it until I got a dead ROM, which happened today while playing with Gingerbread 2.3.1 - TripNRaVeR v1.1 - since gone to 1.2 and with the sound / keyboard / wifi / sdcard fixes in place and working, highly recommend checking it..
EDIT: After flashing back to this standard ROM to look into MultiTouch further, found Multitouch is implemented in stock 2.1.A.0.435 ROM. Working with browser, docs, Angry Birds, Maps and more, not Navigation by default, investigating.
So there you have it - Multitouch is enabled on the 435 ROM. All other ROM versions can add it with the Dual Touch kernel mod and setting the xml file options / Build.prop etc.. takes 10 minutes and is worth it!
The new Mediascape has a Plus / Minus flexible icon that appears when you hold your finger on the picture, allowing you to zoom in and out, but not pinch ouch!
2.1.A.0.435 is the slowest ROM I've used. Linkpack score of 6.xx - totally lame app performance, constantly killing processes and I gave up using it within 2 hours, not even bothering to make an update.zip to return to xRecovery loading my preferred 2.0.2.A.0.24 with XGbread theme.
EDIT 2: Don't recommend downgrading from 2.3.1 to 2.1.A.0.435 ROM by Flashing with Update Service and then using xRecovery to attempt loading 2.1.A.0.24 - as this bricked my device and was forced to use the Update Service to go back to 2.1.A.0.435, which is where I am stuck right now - lol - this is because of the baseband version being so different you will always receive - No service - WiFi will crash repeatedly and basically you can't use it as a phone anymore.
Root via SuperOneClick - works! - Install BusyBox - works! - load xRecovery works!

New official folio update (2.2.5.0131), DO NOT UPDATE, if you want to use Custom Roms

Hi,
I´m writing this post to notify that there is a new official update from toshiba.
I cannot give more information, because my folio is in SAT, but the version number might be "18/02/2011 (2.2.5.0131)". I have no info about changes yet, but I´ve red something about preparation for the new flash player and more utilities.
My source:
htcmania.com/showthread.php?p=1874046&posted=1#post1874046
(Sorry, I can´t still post urls, you may add the usual www to check the adress)
Maybe we have new materials for our favourite mods (for me, Folionotion and foliomod, I can´t decide).
Any additional info will be wellcome, thanks

Will we have it in mods ???
I have installed it.
It seems to be more performance in 3D games.
Flash plugin preinstaled, and it can run the flash animation in Toshiba's web page .
It solves some bug about brong accelerometer axis in some games.
But no Android Market, only the same *sigh* Toshiba Market.
The question is whether we can install FolioMod on top of this update or not. For me,it's not worth updating this without DexterMod, which is already very good imo

I confirm that the root of 5.0131 is ok yessssssss !
I'm guessing this updates the recovery kernel, and the recovery kernel is the only place that the recovery kernel is visible from to write? So root access is not enough for a simple way of updating the whole OS partition.

they might have blocked it on the new update as well, making it really hard to get revert.. but on previous editions you can easily write a new recovery.
the partition is visible at partition 7, but this might have changed.
i have not had the luxury to look at the actual update, so what is inside, is for me to find out.. then we get all the nasty details.

Just read about the new update and the issues with it. I have my Folio sent in for repair and they always update to the latest firmware before sending back to customer, so it looks like im in deep ****. I know how to use adb and fastboot, use them all the time on my desire hd and my VEGA. Maybe someone could write a good guide on how to flash this old recovery and which of all the rooting procedures that works with the new firmware. I also dont know how to get Folio in fastboot. But if we have a working root we can flash the old recovery or clockwork recovery, is that right? Because if not i might as well throw it away. No use in trying to sell it, no one will buy a useless tablet anyways. HOPING FOR A GUIDE CALLED: HOW TO RESTORE YOUR FOLIO WITH FLASHABLE RECOVERY

[TEST] Repair broken camera firmware

Hey,
some of you had interupted the camera firmware upgrade to original Eclair (2.1) Update. This is caused because you shut off the phone when you saw the flashing Camera Icon on the phone. THIS WAS THE CAMERA FIRMWARE UPDATE!
The User lipali reported that it works, so i decided to make a little batch-script for you.
Note: You should be on a ROOTED original SE Eclair Rom (2.1) to have all needed scripts in place.
1.) Activate USB-Debugging on phone
2.) EXTRACT the attached ZIP file
3.) Connect your phone to PC
4.) Start the RunMe.bat and follow the instructions
Please report if this works for you, this is a TEST!
Dont blame me if you **** up your phone in some way.

I just hope the cam shall be fixed It'll be epic
Thanks a lot dude, I was looking for these files !
Gotta test this...
It works!!!
What iI've done?
copy files from Bin4ry to folders /system/etc/firmware and /system/bin
In next step I goes to the root explorer and execute script init.es09ra.rc. Later I rebooted phone. Waiting while icons with camera and phone is blinking (few long minutes...) and after that phone rebooted. Later I start camera apps and.. it works... THANKS A LOT (yes, this is scream ) And sorry for my english. I'm so excited.

what does this actually do ? does it fix video camera for 2.2?

Some people reported that Camera Stopped working after the upgrade from 1.6 to 2.1. Do you remember that after updating there was an image with an Arrow and the Camera? Well, some users rebooted the phone while doing this process wich pretty much ****ed up the camera and was useless no matter what 2.1 firmware you flash on it because the camera was ****ed up since the beginning.
So Bin4ry compiled the script and now all those users with problems can upgrade the camera and have it fully working on 2.1
That's what i get from it... I could be wrong

[ROM] 2.2 FroYo7-A [15March2011]

This is built off of FreeX10 Beta 4, so you need to have a rooted 2.1 rom before flashing this. This was tested on .54 baseband, so this should work fine on .54 and .55 basebands.
Mods:
Launcher2 replaced with Launcher7 (free version, if you like it, buy the donate version in the market)
Framework mods
Host file
WolfBreak's camera fix applied
All apk's zipalligned
cmparts
Replaced Fonts
To install:
Back up apps using this method
Xrecovery, back up current rom
Xrecovery, factory wipe
Xrecovery, wipe cache
Xrecovery, advanced options, wipe dalvik cache
Xrecovery, advanced options, wipe battery stats
Xrecovery, flash custom zip, select FroYo7.A.svtfmook.zip
Xrecovery, flash gapps_freex10.zip
reboot
let it crash and reboot again
enjoy
Confirmed Working (for me atleast):
Camera (stock android, no zoom, vignette works great for more options)
Camcorder (stock android, 800x480 17-24fps)
GPS (may take a while to lock satellites, took about 3 minutes for me to lock 8 satellites)
GSM (you may have to manually enter your carrier's APN settings)
Wifi (remembers access points at reboot)
The stock camera app works, it's not the SEMCcamera, it's the android 2.2 camera (just to clear up some confusion on the camera working).
Thanks to:
wolfbreak, j, z, trip and all the other devs for their hard work making development possible on our x10's
Install at your own risk. I am not responsible for anything this rom does to your phone... unless you like it. Follow the install directions to make it work correctly

Other Notes
I've had a few people ask how to backup and transfer data from 2.1 to 2.2.
*For angybirds scores, you can copy /data/data/com.rovio.angrybirds/files/highscores.lua to your sdcard and restore it after install to save your progress. Or just copy the com.rovio.andgrybirds folder and it will backup your settings as well.
*For SMS, i use GoSMS, which is an XDA-Developers app, so i will suggest using this app and supporting the XDA devs. it has an export/recover conversations to sdcard option which works good.
*For contacts, i sync mine to google, but for those who use the sonysync, GoContacts, which is the same developer as GoSMS, has an export to sdcard option. I have not tested it, but I will assume it works since the GoSMS works.
*For other apps, backing up the apps in the method described in the install procedures will just reinstall the apps, but not the data. app data with specific details can be found in /data/data. Back up the folder in /data/data that corresponds to the app you want to back your data up from, and that can be replaced to /data/data after flashing the new rom and resinstalling the app to restore your progress and data in that app. I will say that you should not use this method for google apps as it may not work right between 2.1 and 2.2 roms.
If you like this rom, buy me a beer

Why are you stuck at. 46? Why can't you flash to a newer baseband? Its pretty simple if you have access to a computer and a usb cable.

Where did you get the pictures/icons from? They look really good.

No matter how many times people ask this question the answer is not going to change until we have the drivers. The Stock camera is STILL not possible without the bootloader cracked or someone rewrites the drivers. From looking at the OP, this ROM is Free X10 Beta 4 with a Windows 7 theme and apps zip aligned.
However, the camera is working and there is a limited new fix for the camcorder, so all Froyo ROMs now have a functional camera/camcorder. Still no HD or zoom. Use viginette app for camera zoom and better functionality than the vanilla Froyo camera app.
Any recommended Baseband for this rom? I have the second most recent one.

Thanks. And this is how to show people what is working exactly. So OP's "everything working" is exclude the stock camera.

[Q] Apps not found in Market

Sorry for the stupid question - it's been a while that I used my X10 Mini Android phone...
I am trying to revive my phone for my son and just installed newest stock ROM from Sony. Everything works as Sony - expected, however I do not find e.g. the App Kytephone in the store to install. I heard that this app pretty much close down the phone and makes any android phone a great kids phone.
Any help how I can install that app? Any stting or update to marketpalce needed Would updating to any custom ROM might make that App available to install ? Which one is most stable (as my son shouldn't use too many features anyway...)
THANK YOU!
It needs Android 2.2 or higher, and sony's latest update is 2.1, that's why you can't find it in the store, so upgrading to a custom froyo or gingerbread rom should do the trick

Awsome - thanks, will try. I know this is a non-checker question and it all depends on individual opinions... However, could you name any ROM that has its strength in stability and battery life?
I would go with MiniCM7, the last version to run on stock kernel was 2.0.7, which is quite stable.
Or you could try this, which should run on 2.1 too

The market will only show apps that are suitable for our phones. You get more choice if you run the latest custom rom (which is Jellybean), but the market will also take into account things like the screen resolution, and the architecture of the chip used.
Apps developed specifically for Armv7 or higher won't run on our phones, which have Armv6 architecture, and if an app requires a resolution higher than 240x320, then the market won't show those options either.
If you want to try an app that is unsopported, find a .apk for that app (use a general search for that app), copy it to your sd-card and install it from there. If the app checks it's own requirements (rather than let google-play decide if it's appropriate) it still won't install though. Sometimes you'll get lucky, but that is really rare.
Usually the only way to get an 'unsupported' app to run is to get a different device that fulfill it's requirements.
