I noticed that for the gTablet beneath it, they show Dual Core and so on. This one simply says 1GHz. I'm curious about this tablet too.

The N4XX line is in fact single core. And as a point of reference, the Snapdragon processor uses only 1/4 of the power consumption of the Atom, so I would expect battery life to be significantly less with heavy usage.
It is funny that many people whom are buying the G-tablet from Sears are thinking they are getting the Viewpad 10S. Now are we going to see people buying the G-tablet end up getting a Viewpad 10S in their hands.

Interesting enough this 10s says Russia, Europe and Asia only...look like we might be able to source some upgraded parts.
I think one of the features we missed was the optional 3G. That seems like a bonus, and maybe then we'd be able to use the location feature.
Also, what is this "G-Sensor"? Would this add an extra axis, such as an accelerometer? Ive noticed playing some games, such as doodle jump, that there is no accelerometer when you're holding it portrait tilting it side to side. Does anyone know what the g-sensor is?
10s looks better than the gtab, I like that they move the main screen a little bit toward to the bottom boarder, and there are no physical buttons (ready for honeycomb), the back looks much better without the "G-tablet" logo and it looks a little bit thinner too. The interesting thing is that the software is not TNT, it looks more like the Vegan or Advent Vega don't you think?
Anyways, cannot tell whether the screen is a better one since when I hold my gtablet the same way, my screen looks very good too.. (just the viewing angle sucks).
EDIT: just looked at the first generation of Advent Vega tablet, it is virtual the same as 10s.. just the shell looks a little bit different. Man, it looks like another rebrand..

The 10S has a Tegra 2, same as the G-tab.
Not sure of any specific advantages other than HDMI. It would nice if it drove the price of used G-tabs down.
10S looks like it has about the same specs as the g. The 10S back looks sooo sooo much more like a real product and not some import knock off. I hope the screen size is the same but with better viewing angles...maybe it means g will finally find a decent panel replacment. Also sounds like VS is not bailing on the tablet market and with the two slates being so close in specs I cannot imagine not seeing Android 3.0 roms for the gTablet. If the 10s screen is much better I might just pick one up and give my parents my old g but I have a feeling it is a mediocre step up if any.

People seem to be micing up the dual-booting, atom based, 10 and the 10s, which is an Android device almost identical the gtablet.

So this begs the question....do I hold out for the 10s North American version or just get the gtablet. I've read reviews that say the 10s screen has the same viewing angle issues as the g tablet. I'm thinking the g tablet will go on sale here pretty soon too.

yeah, the screen, if it is bette,r is an advantage, but it looks the same. HDMI i can live without. It is a portable electronic is it not or are we going to start carrying our 55 inch dlp tvs with an extension cord in a backpack. I'm sure targus would be happy. But my main concern on top of the screen of course would be battery. Once again, it is suppose to be portable? and according to the specs 4 hour batt life is nothing to get thrilled about. just my 2 cents.

4 hours?? Are you sure that's not for the dual-boot one? The 10s is the same hardware (speculating about the screen) than the gtablet.
I went and played with the gtablet today in store and was not impressed. The build quality seems pretty good, but the screen viewing angles were pretty crappy. They bolt down the thing at a certain angle for a reason on display it seems. Although, I'd love a chance to play with a VEGAN version. The stock software killed my experience, and I'm sure 99% of the other shoppers.
i did a little searching before i bought the g tab, and saw there are custom roms available. so on the way to the store to pick it up i downloaded the rom on my phone bought the tab and flashed right away. i have no idea what the original rom issues are, since the only time i messed with it was the 10 mins at the depot. gotta say though...love the tab...but needs a better screen. even my lenovo s10 has a better screen.

Well, I finally decided to contact Asus on the phone. They're pretty much clueless on what is going on. They are reading from a book or outline on what to say or ask it seems. Just to please them I did whatever is they asked. All the way down to a factory reset. I got my RMA and who the heck knows what will happen. I left them a very detailed message in the box, which I took several pictures of while I was packing it.
I actually may just go out and buy another tablet some where to tide me over, but haven't the slightest of what to get. I was thinking Samsung 10inch but jeeez they still are on Honeycomb. How is that?

Grab a Moto Xoom. They are less than $250.00 at Staples and already have ICS OTA. It doesn't have the same screen resolution your Prime has and only a Tegra 2 processor but it will certainly hold you over...

I picked up a Samsung Galaxy 10 tablet and I have to say for the price and a dual processor I'm pretty impressed. There was zero screen bleed when I turned it on, and guess what, all functions and features were working out of the box! I also like the DUAL speaker placement on the Samsung, they are on each side and not on the back AWAY from you. Oh well, nothing I can do now but if Asus can't provide a complete working tablet with my Bluetooth headphones working AND my wifi normal then I'll want a full refund and end up with this Samsung for now. I've been beating on this Samsung for at least 2 hours and not one reboot or glitch yet. Still running 3.2 and no ICS yet. I can't wait for some of these other companies to start making tegra 3 chips and hi-res screen. If the quality is like what this Samsung is I'll never look at Asus again, sorry.
I had the Galaxy Tab 10.1 before i got the Prime. IMO the Prime is much better than the Galaxy.
where in texas is your prime going? If its anywhere near sugar land I would want to stop by with my prime and have them see if they can fix my gps issues.

I've had two G-Tabs, a U.S. Wi-Fi and a UK 3G. They're built like tanks. I dropped it down a flight of carpeted stairs in nothing but its slip case and it wasn't even phased. I accidentally poured water in to its media dock while it was connected and it worked fine once it dried out. I can’t count how many times it hit the ground on airplanes and at airports and it still looks new. Compared to the Zoom and Jetstream it has the best Wi-Fi and GPS and supports the 5GHz band. The most impressive thing about the G-Tab is that it just works - the same way, every time. The display is really impressive. The design was changed in October and the new displays have better contrast and less in-your-face color saturation. There are also three temperature settings from warm to cool. "Official" ICS is supposed to be available Q1 but CM9's available and the only thing not working is the camera. Its got a robust dev community and some pretty impressive (speed wise) 3.2 ROMs and kernels available. 1080P's a bust because of Teg2 not supporting NEON but 720P works decently with the right player. On the downside, its Teg2, has no ports so you'll have to buy (expensive) accessories, and they're still expensive. Costco's got the 16GB for $389 in-store only. By buying it there, you can play with it for 90 days and return it if you don't like it or if something better comes along.
The Toshiba A200 with the same TI SoC and GPU as the GN is out in the UK and will be released this month in Canada as the Excite. I played with a friend’s and it's much smoother than Teg2 and the display is gorgeous. It's so thin and light it makes the G-Tab feel bulky. It's pricey though. It looks like the first Teg3 tablet to be actually available for sale will be the HTC Vertex (formerly Quattro) in March. The announcement will be made at a HTC press conference at MWC on the 27th. Hopefully it'll be sold Wi-Fi only and direct (and in the U.S.) and not tied to a carrier the way the Jetstream was. I had a Jetstream for a while and liked it but it weighed a ton and was too big to hold comfortably. I'd consider an HTC tablet, the Jetstream was extremely well built and even had a discrete subwoofer. Sense on a tablet added a lot of cool features too.

Its cool. Just wanted to mess with ya on that post. But yes, from now on, on any new device, I will wait for a while and see how things turn out with it. I got lucky with the Prime, but not going to take anymore high dollar risks..lmfao. I seriously see me keeping Prime for a long time. Only thing that might entice me is once kal El/Wayne/tegra4 chipset comes out towards later or end of the year. I used Ipad for almost 2 yrs. Without really wanting another device. So I can easily see the same or longer with my Prime. We haven't even scratched the surface of the full potential or power of Tegra3 yet.

I believe the RMA center is in Grapevine, TX. That's very near D/FW airport.
I'm sorry to say that when Samsung does come out with their tegra 3, gorilla glass, and all that I'll be grabbing one of those right away. Of course the current Galaxy tab can't compete with the Prime, but right now I'd take Samsung's quality control right now. I love my Prime, trust me, was an awesome tablet and I have no idea how long it will be RMA'ed for.
Just an update, I pmed Gary Key and I now have a replacement tf201. It works exactly as advertised and I couldn't be happier! GPS locks on 10 of 12 sats in my house with wifi off!

Serial number?
I am trying to decide if I want to wait for the 300 or go ahead with the 201. So it seems the main differences is the Screen (IPS vs IPS+), the clock (1.5? vs 1.3), and the case (metal vs plastic). I do care about wifi performance and I know that forums are terrible for being mostly negative (in that more people come to complain about something not working, than people come to praise something that it working just fine) so I am not sure the the 300 wifi will be that much better than the 201 wifi. So is it worth the price ($50-$100) for the 201 with the higher clock and better screen (how much better)? I know that no one has really seen the 300 but we do have some specs and just wanted to get an opinion.
I don't get you mate, you just highlighted the main differences between both models and still need to ask others? Make yourself the logical question, are the features between models important enough to justify the extra price tag?

I guess since the 300 is like a Transformer/Transformer Prime hybrid (screen, case, possible wifi) is from someone that maybe has owned both the Prime and the OG, would you pay more for the Prime if the OG had a Tegra 3 in it. And really thats what it comes down to even looking at the current OG vs the Prime. Is the Tegra 3 that much better than the Tegra 2.
Also, keep in mind that the form factors are going to be different as the 300 is supposed to be thicker than the 201.

Looks like it is rumored to be released this month. That is news to me. But after re-watching the teaser video it definitely looks thicker than the 201. With the plastic shell, thicker profile and the Red, White, and Blue color options it looks more like a toy and not a high tech gadget.

You seem to be a very rational and knowledgeable individual, therefore, easy decision for you.
Speaking for myself, I can't even take the 300 series seriously after owning the Prime, that looks like something my 3 year old could carry around the house.
The 700 is the one I want to consider after the Tegra 4 is out and running, for the time being, my Prime is the one.
i'm in the same boat that you are in. but i think i'm going to go with the TF300. I do believe that Asus will fix the wifi and gps issue with this. (actually i don't know if there is gps in tf300..but i would imagine so). I'm not sure about the screen quality but the original transformer screen quality was fine with me so i would imagine that the tf300 would also be okay. Wifi is a big deal for me but i'm sure it will work. the thickness to me is irrelavent since i'm more focused on the functionality.
for $399 vs $499..i can't really complain. the only concern i really have with the tf300 is the battery life. 22WH. Acer's Iconia A510 had a significantly higher battery life for $450 but its also 1.3 gz on tegra 3.
as for the clock speed...i'm sure xda will have roms for the tf300 and you can get higher clock speeds on demand after a few months so that part to me also becomes irrelevant.

Ahh, you are right, my link doesn't cite the rumored release date. I think I first saw the date mentioned here. And it was also under the heading "Official Specifications of the Transformer TF300T:" on the second page from update 3 like you mentioned.
This site seems to be less and less credible the more I search around on it though. Under the "Official Specifications of the Transformer TF300T" it says the thing has a 8GB solid state drive... They also state on another page: "Expect the Transformer Pad TF300 pre orders to start in mid March". That was almost a month ago and still no official word on pre-orders.
you already pointed out most main differences. I see some that might not be correct though.
last time I checked official spec of 300 on Asus page, it has a top speed of only 1.2Ghz. prime top speed is 1.4Ghz. both in stock configuration. 300 will eventually get developer support and roms and be clocked higher. bit never will be as powerful as the prime. they probably using a cheaper tegra3 or one not able to withstand the stresses prime tegra3 can handle. lower power silicon process probably. anyways, 1.2Ghz is still good.
300 is a lower end model. so you should expect it to be lower spec and not as powerful or as many features. for ex. prime Super IPS+ display vs. regular ips. that is a huge difference as far as brightness and clarity of tablet goes. with that said, 300 display should still look good being ips.
300 model won't have as good battery life as prime but will still be good enough for most.
300 is priced tl be more affordable. its mainly for those not able to afford a prime or have that much extra money to spare. which nothing is wrong with thst. its Asus version of economy tablet at the moment.
300 will be alot thicker and heavier than the prime. but its still thinner and lighter than the OG transformer its replacing. plus it'll come in cool assortment of different colors. that white looks so sexy and professional looking. its something about white colored electronics. cars, etc...that give it a more distinguished look to it.
300 does have a good thing going for it. its said to include ddr3 ram. so that will help alot with multitasking although less powerful than prime.
300 will be made out of plastic. This "SHOULD" help out with its wireless capabilities. BUT and I mean BUT we have already seen the FCC report on this device. its already stated wifi/BT on the same chip. the report also "SPECIFICALLY" notes that the wifi/BT working at the same time is really not possible or will interfere with each other. So simultaneous mode is not needed. we have a thread with links to FCC report on the 300 If you want confirmation. it also shows wifi antennae gain is lower than prime. this usually means its wifi is not as powerful and show worse performance. MAIN THING IS DONT EXPECT WIFI/BT PERFORMANCE TO BE BETTER THAN PRIMES. maybe the 300 model doesn't need wifi signal as strong as prime since it has plastic back. who knows. but I'm pretty sure it will still perform just fine on wireless capabilities. Any device with wifi/BT on same chip sharing same antennae is prone to issues when used simultaneously. As we have people who own other devices and experience the same thing on it. the only difference is manufacturers do the best they can to minimize the impact. but the impact is always there. whether large or minute. Manufacturers have been using this single chip design because it cuts down on costs. So Asus not really to blame on that. they can only do the best they can to minimize the interference with each other. they use this to save space also in the device. devices that have separate wifi and BT chips doesn't suffer as much or at all vs. angle chip design. so wifi/BT dropout issues is not a prime exclusive problem or issue. this goes for most electronics now that use single chip design.
also forgot to add the 300 has lesser quality/less MP having cans. I think its rear is only 5mp vs. prime 8mp. plus 300 doesn't have a flash at all. so no nighttime pics or video recording. or low light ones.
What this all boils down to is how much do you want to spend? how much can you afford to use on a ttablet? there is no real comparing to the prime because prime is superior across the board. which is why it commands the higher price tag. So if you trying to decide based on specs comparison of which is better, it'll always be the prime, as its superior. Prime is the premium model. 300 is the lowend/economy one. 300 is a great value in its own. it should still perform great. of you have an extra $100 to spend and want the best, Prime is it.

the price point for 101 and the 300 when that comes out will be a difference of $50 unless you are planning on getting one refurbished. if you have the money th3 201 is the way to go if you don't..i would wait for the tf300. nothing wrong with the 101 but why get that one when the new one is coming out with tegra 3 at about the same price point?
Yeah someone listed on on CL for $300 for the Tf101 and dock. So I thought that was a good deal. If I can't get a deal like that, then I think I am going to wait unless I just can't stand it and the impulse buyer in me takes over and I jump from store to store to find a Prime.

that is a good deal for tablet and dock. but it is really outdated. in mobile tech world. its display is not ips and it uses an older tegra2 chip. I'd say at least wait and get the 300 or the prime. that guy selling his to get money for new 300 tablet probably. I think 300 worth the wait if you only trying to spend so much.
good luck fighting off the impulse buying. I did before I got my prime. I wanted the td-101 during blackfriday sale but they were sold out. I got so impatient on wanting a new tablet and Android one that I almost got a Toshiba thrive, Acer-A100, or Kindle fire..lmfao. I'm so glad I didn't and just held out till I found out about the prime.

I forgot what kind it is but do not think its an ips display(I could be wrong). The 300 has an ips. Prime has Super ips +.
Google search the tf-101 display spec. I forgot exactly what kind of display of was but know it wasn't an ips one. It was a lesser quality.
Edit: I tried to find out for you but conflicting specs all over the web. It does have same resolution though.

The TF101 has an IPS display panel (- same resolution as the Prime but isn't able to go as bright due to the lack of the 'plus' mode). I gave my wife my old transformer and it's a pretty decent performer apart from video playback of some high bandwidth formats and as long as you get one without quality control issues. I see the Pad 300 model is being a) The eventual replacement for the TF101 as it's pretty similar apart from the use of Tegra 3 and likely priced similarly. b) For those considering a Prime but wanted something with less flash storage (and for that reason not as expensive) or c) alternatively need something other than wi-fi only models (which has been the norm apart from the TF101G which was released in some regions). However, until there's a release date and actual physical availability the Pad 300 model remains unproven. Will it have any issues of its own, for example and what quality control problems if any will there be.

So I decided to straddle the fence a bit. I put in my order to Amazon for the 201 which ships in 3-4 weeks and that gives me time to see what happens with the 300. Hopefully I can make it that long.

I haven't had any problems with my tf201 - you shouldn't be disappointed.
The wifi range isn't as good as my Galaxy S but still always picks up the routers fine.

Well I first had ordered the Grey since it was 3-4 weeks for delivery and that gave me time to think about my options (and probably regret it). But then the Champagne just showed up in stock and I jumped on it and canceled the grey.
I keep seeing these great deals on the Nexus 10. Although it's an old tablet it is well received and still seems to be among the best available. After deciding to wait for the new version, it keeps getting pushed back and who knows when it will actually be available? I think I may just go with the original N10 as my Asus TF300 is absolutely driving me nuts. It's nearly unusable at times... if it's doing any kind of app update or sync, forget it, it's unusable. I am rooted and on a custom ROM and still have issues. I was fed up and need a replacement now. Should I stick with the N10 or maybe look into some other tablets... Budget is around $300...
Yeah its still a good tablet if you can get it for a decent price. I love mine, although it does have its flaws for sure. But if my tablet suddenly turned into a stack of $300 bills I am not sure I would buy it again. I would probably look at maybe a Sony Tablet Z.
The reason i say this is that the N10 is not a perfect device. For a start the battery is not the best. On 4.3 I would eek out 8 hours with very conservative use and low brightness. On 4.4 that has dropped to 6-7 hours on a very good day. The battery issue is mainly due to the chipsets used, which is a dual core A15 and Mali T604 graphics. Both of these are pretty power hungry compared to newer chipsets. Newer CPU's have lower powered cores which handle mundane tasks and conserve power. Also, the graphics use up 1GB of the system memory, so really you only get 1GB for system RAM and not 2GB like most tablets. Kitkat 4.4. had to be gimped on the N10 mainly due to the N10 not have enough grunt to run certain aspects of 4.4 like the translucent bars and ART without stutter. Another thing is its not a tablet to be held in portrait mode due to the design. It should be held in landscape mode at all times. It just feels way better held like that.
Don't get me wrong I love my N10, especially the design. Its definitely the best tablet in terms of ergonomics I have used. The screen is still fantastic and the speakers being on the front are really great and go to a decent level. Performance is also really good being vanilla android and all with no bloatware.
So I do love my N10 but its not perfect, but I can live with its faults. But if I was to buy another tablet tomorrow I would definitely look around at the competition.

Almost Everything Warren_Orange has said is true to certain degree. The screen is still fantastic compared to newer tablets even though it may not be #1 anymore in terms of quality. Yes, ram on the nexus 10 is a little scarce due to the high screen resolution but its not a deal breaker by any means. KitKat has vastly improved ram management on this device and it is a night and day difference. Battery life could certainly be better and don't even get me started on the insanely long charging times lol.
A few things I would kindly disagree with is that "the processor in the N10 doesn't have enough power for 4.4." I think the features missing from 4.4 on the N10 has more to due with fact that its using an exynos processor and not snapdragon or some other mainstream chip. Exynos chips tend to be more locked down with their drivers and less compatible than other popular chipsets. I haven't come across one app or game that my n10 couldn't run or struggled with. If anything it seems like Google hasn't totally optimized this tablet to its fullest potential on the software end. Also I think the N10 is fine held in portrait mode. It just feels little odd at first if you're not used to a 16:9 tablet.
Like Warren_Orange said, the N10 isn't prefect but its still a great tablet. One thing I would recommend if you decide to purchase it (and are comfortable with) is root it, install a ROM like SlimKat Official build 3 and over clock the CPU and GPU (overclocking the gpu will be the most beneficial to help cope with the screen resolution while overclocking the cpu is totally optional as it already has two powerful A15 cores) while at the same time undevolting. This helps tremendously with the overall performance of the device and other gripes associated with it.

Well I love my N10! The battery life isn't that bad. I can usually get close to 10 hours with apps that don't tax the gpu. The charging time does stink... 5 hours is too long. All in all, I've been enjoying mine since last May. Just buy an N7 for now to hold you over to the next 10 incher is released. Purchased one for my wife and she loves it.

I would definitely buy again, no questions asked.
I don't know what everyone else's problems with the battery life are, I get 1.5-2 days worth of use with mine including leaving it on all night unplugged. Even if the battery life is a "problem" for some, just plug it in each night anyhow and you're good to go.
The screen is phenominal on this thing, the front facing speakers are great as well. There's also plenty of developer activity, and a somewhat minimal amount of people having issues with their devices. The two biggest weak points that people seem to have in terms of having to return it are screen light leak, and the battery occasionally going from ~20% suddenly to 0%. Both of which, are fixed easily by Samsung via a return.
Outside that, I still really like mine, so I say buy one. Especially if you're going to be paying $200 less than what I paid for mine ($499?)
No complaints on battery life from me. The high-res display is what sells this thing, and as an added bonus it has front-facing speakers and is super lightweight. My only complaint is the finicky Wifi; depending where I am in the house, the Wifi becomes dog slow despite a strong signal.
If you can find a good deal on Nexus 10, then yes it's a worthy purchase.
I just got the Nexus 10 as a gift yesterday. So far I am liking it. I have had a rooted nexus 7 32gb first gen since it came out and I love that one. I am trying to decide whether to root the nexus 10 or not. I am sure that the other roms are better for battery life than stock.

Get a case with the magnet deal allowing it to sleep. Then set wireless to shut off when in sleep mode. This will help allot with battery life. I always charge mine when powered down (mostly overnight) that helps with charging speed some.
I have had the N10 awhile now, running ThunderKat 4.4.2 ROM and Kernel. No complaints here.

Root it add the recovery of your choice then install Viper4Android, Onandroid, Xposed framework and at least it's Gravity box module. All of which can be found by searching XDA.

With PoGo charger it only takes 2 hours, they are really cheap too. Also charges while you use it as well.
I love this tablet. I'm starting to think some people have N10s that were shipped with lemon batteries or something, if I use it occasionally I can go 3-4 days before charging with about 6 hours screen on time. Today (NCAA tournament baby) I abused the tablet all day and still got over 18 hours with 7 hours of screen on time, and it's sitting here hovering around 15%. Virtually all of those 7 hours were with the brightness at about 50% streaming video. Having said that, I got mine in November 2012 and am pretty anal about charging habits. This IS my first tablet, so maybe I'm not expecting as much out of my battery as other users?
I don't think I'll be purchasing the 2014 Nexus 10 (if it ever arrives), the current gen is every thing I need from a tablet and more. I suppose there are now newer tablets with better specs, but would it affect the utility it provides me? I think not.
If you are a spec whore, don't get this tablet. If you are looking for a top notch tablet with decent development that is currently selling for a relatively cheap price tag, GET IT!

I've had N10 for 4 months, it goes alongside my N4 of 14 months and N7 of 20 months.
I use my N7 on long haul flights for space and battery reasons, N10 in hotels and home, N7 when really moving around a lot like on a bike and when going between meetings as it fits in a trouser pocket. My N4's with me all the time.
The N10's battery life really sucks, battery charging is slow, BUT I just use it in proportion to my other devices and I got the Pogo cable, when its not moving around its connected to the Pogo cable, that keeps on top of demand and I've NEVER had flat battery turn off problems. When I'm in situations with high mobility and not expecting much plug-in time I'm using my N7 which lasts longer and charges faster. N10 does say a trans-continent 5 hour flight fine but say California to Europe it can't but a N7 can with possibly an external USB slim battery top-up.
The N10 and N7 bluetooth tethering seamless flawless reliable to the N4 so I got phone and tablet online all the time when on the go.
The N10 absolutely best features are it's display 1st, outstanding, and then its speakers being stereo and forward facing so you can actually sit on your laptop or on desk, etc and sit and watch it would headphones and its just a pleasure.
My N10 crashes in certain situations, so I simply avoid those situations. Its camera doesn't work reliably for say Skype... so I use my N7 or N4 for that.
Just so long as you don't have too high an expectations, don't expect perfection, and use it in contexts which fits its limitations, then for the <$300 figure use it and enjoy. If you limit its use to contexts it should last enough years and betya you can replace its battery with a guide in a couple of years to re-life it if you wanted.
You can spend as much $ buying 1 device which aims to be better but 2 or 3 devices are better, particular as if say you're watching Hulu on you N10 and when annoying commercials (who needs a car anyway) come on just pick up your N7 and check your email, so "multi-window" by other means.
Notice how my N7 is coming to 2 years and still used? Because the big-screen graphics stuff is on the N10 and the battery-hog situations avoid the N10 and go to N7. I think that's the way to go. The idea of one perfect tablet never happens, plus it sucks if it breaks and its all you got.
I got one of these dual USB chargers and the Pogo cable makes all the difference.

I received it yesterday and so far so good. Everything I expected so far except the stock email client's hyperlinks aren't clickable. I had to switch to another email client app. I will look into the pogo plug but I'm not sure if I really need it.
I'm still playing with it but the performance so far is as expected and far exceeds the TF300 it is replacing.

I didn't notice any obnormal light bleed when playing with various brightness settings. Where are you typically seeing the light bleed?

Maybe... The latest Emotion UI is already 3.0 and thy didn't give to this one with the Kitkat update. If they do make a lollipop update for this one, The new version of this phone might be out. For their old Phablet the Ascend Mate 2 they have the emotion UI 2 update but They are still waiting for the Kitkat update. If only they are as the other companies to update their software Huawei would be bigger outside of China.

I do hope they do make the update. for their customers and for their company. also their phones doesn't have NFC w/c i really would like to have. Their phones look nice and have good specs and price. but if they don't follow up with the regular updates of android or their own UI it may cause old Huawei owners to upgrade and buy new Huawei.
IMHO, software versions generally don't impact what you are able to do with the device from day 1.
A Gingerbread device will still let you install apps, make calls, use the camera, upload/download stuff, browse the internet etc.
You bought this device because of the hardware and what the hardware does, not because of the software version. My Note 3 is still on 4.3 from day 1 (1 year ago) with root and Xposed, and I'm completely satisfied with it.

Actually, im still deciding what to buy so i did some research about the x1. if you don't mind me asking you sir. im stuck with the note 3 and this phone the x1. i know the note 3 would be future proof for about a year or two because of its high specs but i like the metal build, screen size and the fact that the x1 has no physical home button because i don't like it. also the price of the x1 here where i'm at is around 140orm and the note 3 has a discounted price of 200orm for the 32gb version. if you would pick one from the two, which would you rather have?

I have both. They serve different purposes.
The Note 3 for ease of portability and general browsing. The X1 is for media consumption and work email/VPN access to Microsoft Remote Desktop. That is why different screen sizes serve different purposes.
However, the X1 has better network reception than the Note3.

I too have both devices. I actually bought this one because I found the Note 3 screen a bit small for reading PDFs, browsing the web and watching videos. My initial intention was to sell the Note 3 but now I'm not so sure. My feelings on both phones, after a month with the MediaPad X1 and 9 month with the Note 3:
MediaPad X1:
+ The screen size is a joy to use with certain applications and to watch videos. It also allows me to use my thumbs to write on the keyboard in portrait mode. I type much faster this way.
+ Skin tones are rendered more naturally than on AMOLED screens.
+ Battery life. It lasts sooooo much longer than the Note 3.
+ Speaker. Very good sound quality.
- Size. This thing is HUGE. No, let me correct it: GIGANTIC is a more appropriate term. Its main advantage is also its main drawback. The only place it fits is on the back pocket of my jeans and it protrudes like 3-4 cm. Even coat pockets are small for this thing. It is also nearly impossible to answer call with only one hand.
- Poor screen uniformity and washed out blacks.
- Weight. It is noticeably heavier than the Note 3.
- Even tough it fits in my hand (barely), making long calls with it is uncomfortable.
- Support. Huawei's support is a joke and even here on XDA there is little support for this device. This device's user manual is pathetic. There are loads of functionalities that aren't addressed on the manual. The ROMs feel like a rush job with lots of rough edges.
- Only supports memory cards up to 32GB.
- Non removable battery
- No NFC
- On screen home buttons steal a lot of screen space
Note 3:
+ Still fits in my pockets.
+ Blacks are as deep as they get, the screen has perfect uniformity and AMOLED's oversaturated colors are great for games and apps.
+ Support, both from Samsung and here on XDA.
+ Better hardware, better stock ROMs and availability of custom ROMs (if you are into them, which I'm not).
+ Supports cards up to 128 GB
+ Removable battery
+ NFC
+ S-pen (not a deal breaker for me, but it is nice to have)
+ Physical home buttons mean that every single pixel of the screen is used at all times with all applications.
- The screen size is big for a phone but a bit small for certain applications. 6.3" would be a great compromise between the gigantic Mediapad X1 and the not so big Note 3. I owned the Mega 6.3 for a short period and it was just the right compromise. Shame Samgung discontinued it.
- Skin tones are oversaturated and unrealistic, even in Movie, Professional photo (LOL!) or any other display mode meant to desaturate the colors.
- Battery life is O.K. for its class but pales in comparison with the MediaPad X1.
- Better camera
Right now I still haven't decided which one I'll keep but I'll have to make a decision until next week. Whatever I decide, it will be a compromise. The day Samsung makes a Galaxy Note phablet with 6.3" screen and razor thin bezels, I'll have my perfect phone. Until then, I have to make a compromise.

The X1 is not gigantic. It is way smaller than the Nexus 7 and it DOES fit into my work pants front pockets. It even fits in the breast pocket of some of my shirts.
If you want to make long calls, for any phone, the best thing is to sit down compfortably and use a headset whether wired or bluetooth. I participate in hour-long conference calls often, and I have always used a headset. It's bad ergonomics if you don't.
SDcard support - definitely 64Gb is usable in FAT32 format, and I'm sure 128Gb in FAT32 is also usable. I am using a 64Gb card in my X1.
Color reproduction - I don't think you will be looking at a movie that has lots of black in it for most of the movie. Even if you were to be reading comics or black and white manga, most of the screen is white background anyway.
The onscreen buttons in 4.4.2 tend to autohide in media and game playback, so it's not an issue.
As for the rest, I do agree, but I'm not one that chanes devices often, so I'll definitely keep it till the next big thing comes along. *NOT* crapple of course.

When I meant "gigantic", I was making a comparison with phablet class devices. Of course that if you compare to 7" tablets, the X1 is actually much smaller than the competition. Being big or small will depend from user to user. I'm not a short person but I'm far from being tall or having big hands. My advice to any potential buyer is to try it and decide for themselves.

I agree. However, it would be something else to carry in my already filled pockets. At home I use a headset, but on the move I use it with any headset, wired or BT. Again, one should access your his typical uses of the phone.

I tried a 64 GB Sandisk Ultra card and the device didn't recognize it. When I inserted a 32 GB card, also a Sandisk Ultra, it was immediately recognized. Both where formatted in FAT32. Which card are you using? I would love to have 64 GB on my X1.

I tend to agree with you when you say that most of the times it will not be an issue. However, the difference does exist. My X1 has notorious light bleed around the edges. It is very noticeable with a uniform black screen background. Is my device faulty? How does yours behave?

Not in media and game playback but you have to hide them manually in all other applications, which I find annoying.

for 64GB card u can try format first to fat32 at yr PC using mini partition after that format again using yr x1.it work for me .
Update: I've finally made a decision. I'm keeping my Note 3 and selling my MediaPad X1. As much as I love the long battery life and the big screen, it is just no practical to use all day long as a phone. I could live with its other flaws but I'm tired of feeling something this heavy in my pocket, of its cumbersome use for calls and feeling like I'm carrying a small brick in my pants in general. It is a great device if this doesn't bother you.
I'm moving back to the Note 3 forums. To all you gentlemen who I've interacted with in this forum, my best regards.
Good for you. As amazing a device this is, it is not for everyone. I routinely flip between this and other smaller flagship phones but this phone always trumps for battery life and screen size. With a smart watch and headset it is manageable but sometimes I long for a normal 5" or so smartphone in my pocket. Cheers.

Hey all, I have just picked up one of these babies directly from Dell during their Pre-Black Friday sale for an amazing price of $293. Okay, not just, but it is brand new and incredibly, it is the 32 gig model. I have been searching around to see if there have been any negative, or positive, comments, regarding this tablet. Yeah I know it's a little late to be doing that, now that I have bought it. However, in my defense I did search the reviews that came out in January when the DV8 7000 first came out before I pulled the trigger. All the reviews back then were for the 16 gig model and by and large everybody seemed to be favorably impressed. Although they did think it was a little spendy at the time. It was going for $399 then. So I figured I couldn't go too far wrong if I spent just a tad less than that for 32 gig.
What I would like to know is, aside from some of the ergonomic issues, which I believe I can accommodate, how satisfied, or not, are you with this tablet? What are your nits and pics? I have been searching for any forums dedicated to this tablet and have been unable to find any. The Dell support forums have a few dissatisfied customers but really, not all that many. But then maybe there hasn't been all that many of these sold. Anyway, I haven't seen too much out there from end users regarding this tablet so I just wanted to get this out and maybe get a conversation going. So lets hear what you all have to say. Also, is there anybody out there that has snagged the 32 gig model?

I am overall pleased with my new (to me) Venue 7840. I got it yesterday and I also wanted something thin and with a good screen. I did a lot of reading and youtube watching for this model, in comparison with the Galaxy tab S2, and decided to buy one of these, as it stands out from the crowd with its very industrial design and almost lack of side and top bezels.
Ergonomically speaking, it isn't the best out there, but you get used to holding it quickly enough to not be bothersome.
I think the main reason why I picked this up will also be my biggest gripe about it. The screen is amazing for media consumption, but not very gentle on my eyes for web browsing. The high resolution not only forces me to squint a lot more, but it also takes a toll on the processor, as I get random flashes of the background when I pull down the notification drawers and hangs while trying to download pdfs from the web using Chrome.
Other than that, I really must point out that the wireless reception is just terrible. It doesn't help that I have a very slow connection to begin with, but it seems that the tablet is struggling very hard when it comes to youtube streaming content, for example, or downloads. It gets worse if your hold the tablet by the left side, as the signal drops and is lost randomly. You soon learn to use 2 fingers to hold it by the edges.
Being so thin, it really doesn't inspire confidence. I mean, sure, it's aluminium, but still, I have to be very careful of where I put it, cause it sure scratches easily. Also, it's hard to pick it up, with its flat back.
That's why I also got the folio case, which is just your normal iPad-inspired case, but with a bare back, probably for the cameras and heat dissipation, and it's atrocious. The case is thicker than the tablet, obviously, and its top edge makes it hard to swipe down and open the notification bar. It is also kinda flimsy, the plastic bit where the hole for the usb port is cut has cracked already, you can't fit L-plug headphones into the jack and there is no wake function (meaning that the screen doesn't turn on/off when using the cover).
The sound is amazingly good, and I don't understand why Dell is using the MaxxAudio app as a toggle feature, since I don't believe anyone will want to use it without this enabled.
Battery life is good, I've been downloading updates and pdfs and watching documentaries over wifi and playing Angry Birds 2 since this morning and it went from 100% to 47%. That's 6 hours of usage.
