You cant install application on SD Card in Android 2.1. its just that when you install large applications, there data goes on SD Card i.e. if application has 25-40MB of data, it gets saved on SD card but if app is of 5MB, it will be saved on Phone Memory.
CHeck out the link below. I havent tried on my G3 but you can try. be very careful if you are using the steps

If the application doesn't offer you options when installing, install normally (if you have enough space on the phone!) then go to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications and select the application you want to move. You'll have options to clear data, uninstall and move to sdcard.

IMPORTANT: Easy way to install .apk to sd

Saw this method on another thread and just wanted to give more view because it's really easy and worked flawlessly on my rooted mini jit enabled.
Just download the .apk of move2sd and install after patitionning the sd card; for partition i used mini tootl partition wizard from here:
My sd card is class 2 and all works like a charm!
Credits to bakpinar who developped the tool and sur1k that told abut it on the mini forum.
EDIT: Updated to last version 1.5.x

Good effort "rikirix". Link to the original thread by the maker of the app "Bakpinar" is here.
@Tehouster
It is convenient and may be better (I haven't tried apps2SD) than apps2sd.
1) It allows to choose which apps to link to SDcard. Doesn't allow system apps though and one don't need that too.
2)The app is convenient to install & use. No command line. Simple install ".apk".
3)Can move any user installed apps from phone to SD card and vice versa at any point time through the app.
4) Working very well in my x10 mini (with latest firmware) with 16gb class2 Sandisk card with 800mb ext2 partition.
5) Constant upgrades by the developer.
6) No need to have a clean install of firmware in phone and no need to format card for making ext2 partition. Can use partition manager to resize and create a fresh ext2 partition in existing phone firmware.
The app is worth trying and will make x10 mini a bit more usuable in absence of Froyo.

The title of your post is so understated.. it should be in capitals and in bold! I almost missed it!!

nope.. that one is as obsolete as the X10 family now.. who would use that old archaic method anymore? now that you can select what you want on SD and what you want on internal memory!!!

O Lord! And I Just DESTROYED my phone by trying app2sd... Wifi is giving me errors. TitBackup says the phone is not rooted anymore and now i see this thread! If only i had seen it before...
Now i'll have to reflash and loose all my settings... :/
tryed it works great.
the whole title needs to be in capitals.
also i think it should be in the develop section.
i tryed different scripts of app2sd some never worked .the one that worked slow down my whole phone i gave up.then i saw this thread..................
thanks to both the maker of the apk and the poster who pointed it out.
This work, Its much easier than app2sd, though you need to restart everytime you link an app, but still works like a charm. Moved Angrybird to sd without a hitch..
Thanks.

It seems that this thread its not getting proper focus. You may change the caption to a more catchy one like "MOVE ANY USER INSTALLED APP TO SD CARD" or similar.
Moreover, I would request the MODs to move this thread to themes and app section which appears more appropriate. Most of the users are still running behind apps2sd, I don't know whether its intentional or ignorance. Anyway we may try to help more mini/pro users by trying to highlight this thread.
Thx for the link! Got it working on my X10 mini pro! Awesome!
i have used and it is nice but the problem is that you cannot install apps directly to sd, for larger games like NFS shift it is a problem.

Didn't know that. However, the advantages of Link2SD surpasses the disadvantages for me. May be some more problems (like yours) will be taken care of as the app gets upgraded. At least lets hope so. Even, I learnt from some Froyo user (in the original thread) that Froyo doesn't support HS Widget once the app is moved to SD card whereas this app cooly supports HS widgets. Great!

[Q] n00b question about A2SD, CM7 beta3, and widgets

hi
i recently flashed the CyanogenMod 7 beta3 found here
I have an issue with my apps, prob. due to the a2sd stuff. i can't see most of my app's widgets, including the messaging widget. maximum annoyance!! when i put other apps such as facebook in the phone memory, the widget appears in the selection screen, but the messaging app was and is in the phone memory all the time..
HELP WILL BE EXTREMELY APPRETIATED
also, i'm planning to make a vid about flashing the cyanogenmod rom to a phone. who's with me!
i'm having problems with darktremor's a2sd too, it seems to be that it's unable to mount/recognize /sd-ext... i've just backed up with TB, re-partitioned and wiped everything, let's see if a fresh flash enables CM 7 b3/a2sd to recognize /sd-ext -.-"
it keeps gettin stuck at the cyanogenmod animation... it's getting me mad!
there was no way for me to get dt's a2sd working on cm7b3... -.-"

Look at the CM7 thread, in the first post is the solution to your problem, you just need to flash a .zip before flashing CM7..

I think it is native to the system, at least you are able to move apps..
Correct me if i'm wrong
Am I the only one that the choise of the keybord is not stored between reboots?? can someone test please?
(using smartkeyboard pro)
Moved the app to phone memory and worked fine, my bad!
Well, these actions may help you guys "am not sure":
-When installing a widget in CM7, never move it to SD card, it will be only recognized when it's located at phone memory.
-When installing CM7 itself, don't partition your SDcard, just format it using PC or any utility and install CM7 using recovery "so it won't stuck".
-if the stuck thing still happening, download from CM7 topic a Wiper file which will wipe your system setting if wiping is not working on your O1.

I did the partition but flashed the Wiper file, worket fine!
Is thera any way to flash CM7beta4(when it's released) and keep all the apps and configs?
EDIT: Sorry, wrong thread.
When i connect the phone to USB, the widget crash, and also the apps i have to move it to SD because they installing in the phone memory. Dont recognize the Partition.
Sorry for my English.
question
my messaging app (stock) is in my memory, and i can access it, but i cannot access the messaging widget. CAN ANYONE HELP?
I'm not that noob, I can follow instructions, I erased /system using adb, and flashed cm7 many times, partitioning (needs to be done to get darktremor's a2sd working) and flashing a2sd every time, it's just that this time just didn't work... I flashed again doing a "fresh install" and got cm7 to load, but there's no way to get a2sd working... Using "native" cm7's a2sd doesn't just move apps to fat32 partition?

If you already have cm7 on the device, flashing the rom's zip file from recovery should be enough ;-)

Apps2sd help

Sorry if it is the wrong place to ask, or it's been asked before, can someone please help with a total noobs guide to installing and using apps2sd. I've tried it with no success. Thanx in advance
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
download from market, install, open, click on app u want to move. app info will open than press "move to sd card" button. thats it
thanx but nothing like that comes up. it's like the program (apps2sd) is not installed. also, where i had an 8gig card when i prepared it to be used i roughly split the card into 4 gig card with the rest not being able to use.
do i have to be running anything else other than stock 2.1 and rooted phone.
any help would be apprieciated
thanx
When I go to install/transfer apps to sd card, it goes through what looks like a first run procedure to prepare the card and it asks to reboot. When that is done, it's the same every time I try to do it. So i'm obviously doing something wrong.
Hellllp ,:-/

Try with less, heard using over 1.6gb can cause probs.
Or try using a 2.2+ rom, the ones in the development sections are quite stable and fast as hell!
Thanks. Will give it a try with less space on the card

Is app2sd just for moving apps to SD (like normal) for apps you couldn't otherwise...or does it give you the same effect as if they were in your phone...in that you can use widgets and stuff?
If it's just the former...what is the point of app2sd when you can move most apps to the sd card? is it for those pesky ones like gmail and stuff?
Thanks, i don't understand this concept at all!

Guides are everywhere on this forum, just search and read. Start with the flashtool thread by androxyde and use the tool to flash, root and install XRecovery. Then go through the ROM threads download what you want and install the zip thru the recovery. Its super easy and if you just follow the directions step by step you cant go wrong.

App2sd is not available natively in 2.1 or older so thats what the app is for but it requires a second partition on your SD so its way more of a hassle than just upgrading to 2.2+

Hi all,
Hope your well.
Im having the same issue too when trying to install apps. Exactly the same message. just over 6GB available in storage.
Im trying to install friendcaster no luck.
Tried to install you tube too, no luck. I have checked data/apps and I have no Odex files in there. Also, I have not installed friendcaster before on this phone therefore there will not likely to be any odex files for that app.
I am on Omega Rom, which is deodexed.
Btw, where is internal storage gone? only see SD storage and ExSd storage.
Any help would be appriciated.
Thanks guys

Having odex files is the issue that comes to mind but if you have checked it and there isn't any related to friendcaster then u should try wiping cache n dalvik to see if that works.

Salaam bro.
Thanks for your response.
This may sound silly but I was trying to think back a few days ago if I had made any system like changes to my phone. I then remembered that in one of the settings menu in Rom Toolbox, there is an option to choose where to install apps. Auto, internal or SD card. I changed it from Auto to SD,thinking (logically) it would save internal storage. It turns out (so far)that this was the issue. I changed it back to auto and then I was able to install the app. Wierd I know. Im confused. I hant tried to install anymore apps yet so not sure if this is sorted for good but will keep an eye out.
Once again thank you for taking time out to respond.
Btw, all the best for Ramadhan!! (next month!!)

U shouldn't need to install apps to external as u have a lot of memory this time around n u can also use a lot of software to move game data to external sd and run them from there by Binding the directories. Anyways best of luck to you to buddy for Ramadan. Do remember me in your prayers. Tc. Fe Aman Allah

You shouldn't have to just manage A2SD features in the Applications section of the CM-settings. (Settings - CyanogenMod - Applications)
Hello there...That might sound dumb but Im a newbie and you shall forgive me I took up phone hacking just a couple of days ago, trying to make some spare space in my internal memory, and I ended up messing with roms, adbs, codes, a2sd etc etc etc...I was driven mad. The result now, is a htc desire with 4.0.4 Beta 0.18.2 evervol rom, 2.6.38.8-evervolv-turba-ics kernel.
So Im getting to the point now After stabilizing my device, Im trying to figure out how the heck this a2sd works.
-I partitioned (thank god because I got rid of 2Gb garbage in my sd)
-Then I ran the command su a2sd install Y/N/Y
and everything seemed to run smoothly.
So now I cannot understand,
1)whether a2sd just moves (movable apps) from mobile to sd (which makes it useless since there is a built in function for that), or it writes the data of the apps stored in the mobile to sd
2) do I have to repeat the script every time I install a new app?
3) How can I move certain apps to the sd anyway? for example google maps and facebook?
Sorry for the long post. Xda has been really helpfull to me everytime I was VERY close to throwing my phone against a wall
