Accidentally Deleted mms.apk - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So.. in trying to put a new messaging app on I deleted my mms.apk I had a backup of it but when I try to install it it says "There is a problem parsing the package".
Is there a way to fix this without reflashing the whole ROM?
thanks,cale

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894794

If you have the original ROM that you flashed, unzip it, go in to /system/app and find the mms.apk
once you have that adb push it to the /system/app folder of your phone and youre good to go.
I haven't tried it but maybe using root explorer will work also if you don't have adb set up
hope this helps

Darn it, since this is posted in the wrong section, I got excited thinking there was a new mms.apk you were releasing..................................

Touche.. you are correct.. wrong section. My apologies, was working on the phone at the same time and not paying attention.
Hopefully a mod will shortly move it to the correct section..

I was just messing. Even if you find the correct apk, it probably isnt going to install for you - just push it to system/app and reboot and it will be working again.

No worries.. unfortunately I don't really know how to use ADB so just pushing it is a bit tricky for me. Working on it now.. but getting a bit lost.

Just use the app I linked in the above post. Go to the system section, choose either AOSP or the TW option, click generate zip and flash it with clockwork. Mms recovered

Sorry birgertime.. not ignoring your suggestions.. just didn't really want to learn a new program.. thanks though.
Guess I can put off ADB for another day as Root Explorer worked fine.. once I could move the file instead of copy it I had no problems. New mms that I wanted is installed. Well spent 4 bucks.. Root Explorere seems nice.
Thanks for everyones help.

What happened to the Deodex'ed ROM link?

Someone posted a link called Release: Deodex'ed System. - xda-developers.
When you click on it, it takes you to something totally unrelated.
I would like to figure out what happened to the posting, can we get the link back? If not, I am reposting the file - obviously taking no credit for creating. If someone can somehow recreate directions on how to do this, would be great. It was wasnt an install zip file from CWM - it was pushing files through ADB to the /system folder. From what I remember, there are 2 folders, you need to rm: framework and rm: system/app and replace with these???
I posted it, but there was a failed maintanance of xda that caused them to use a 24 hour old backup, therefore my thread was deleted. I will repost it soon, theming something at the moment, but will look for a clockwork update script that will make the flashing a lot easier than using adb and shell commands.
Thought I was losing it when I couldn't find that post again. Wow I'm not going mad. Spent 45 min looking in different forums though I swore it was here.

Thanks a bunch! I could not figure out WTF. Yeah, a CWM one would be fantastic.
Out of curiosity, you removed VVM...in the done_app folder there are a bunch of .apk's. Can I simply add the VVMService.apk and VisualVoiceMail.apk through Astro, or do they have to be pushed?
Thanks

When I applied it the ROM the first time, it removed VVM, and I could not reapply - kept getting a parsing error
Are you gonna repost the Deodexed rom with DI01 soon? Just wondering if you were gonna still post it. Thanks!

I don't use it, but he is a screenshot of both deodex apps installed
http://twitpic.com/2sjznq
Just give me some time to release the updated deodex files and they should work.
Great man! Definitely can't wait to get my hands on it. Hoping that using that rom I will be able to use the default Google Car Dock app on it. Right now the Google one has issues, and once you push it to /system/app and reboot the phone just starts endlessly ringing until you delete the app and reboot. Keep up the great work man!

Need help Modifying APK

Hi I was wondering if someone can help me modify an apk I got from the market. Its a flag live wallpaper and wanted to include my country since there isn't a live wallpaper with my flag. I tried to exchange an image of my country's flag with one in the apk itself however, after zipping it back up it wouldn't install on my phone. I got a problem sparsing package error. Then I tried using ninjamorph and did the same thing. This time it wouldn't install.
What can I do to make this work? Someone please help! Im new at this.
Btw this is the app I downloaded from the market:

You can't modify market apps without resigning them. Search for apk manager or....can't remeber the name, but there's a tool that's simply made for signing apks.
so after zipping the file back up, do I just run it through apk manager? Im currently having issues with that program. And how do I sign the apk? Is it hard or automated by the program?
Thanks in advance!!

Ya it's after you have it zipped up as a .apk and ready to go. You may have to rename it as "unsignedAPPNAME.apk". Either way, simply place it in the "place-apk-here-for-modding" folder and select option 12 "Sign APK". The you'll have a "signedAPPNAME.apk". That's it

k so i went in resized your image and optimized, zipped and signed and it tells me that im overwriting an app upon install then it says application not installed.
im actually upset because i cant figure out what the problem is, i normally have success with this kinda stuff but i might just take a loss on this one.
Sorry dude, heres the app anyway if someone wants to look.
P.S I changed your image because it was blurry upon resize, im sure you'll like my new one.

I was going to try to fix this, but it installed just fine for me. The flag matches what he uploaded, so I assume it's correct.
I'm guessing you probably had the original apk already installed on your phone. A resigned apk will generally not overwrite the original. you have to manually uninstall it first. (I'm explaining this more for the op's benefit than yours )

Help with HTC_IME

Alright, I have the HTC_IME.apk directly from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1035327
Tried to throw it on my atrix (rooted with sideloading enabled of course) and when I tried to install it it says:
Parse error: There is a problem parsing the package.
I've been trying to figure out a solution for a while now, but I am not quite sure where to start. Any help?
Is it a signing issue, or is there something I can do? I know I'm a noob. I don't even need an answer, just point me where to get started, besides "google" cause I got that far .

I'm pretty sure its one of the ones you dont need to install, just place in the /system file and it should be recognized, just make sure the permissions are set correctly (to rw-r-r)

rootexplorer can do both, it's not free but its fairly inexpensive and well worth the change for how good a tool it is.

Thank you, it still didn't work yet, but I have a place to start . Love the HTC_IME and qHD screen of the atrix, hopefully I can make them love eachother or something.
Try putting it in the /system/app folder, set permissions to rw-r-r, then reboot for good measure.

[Q] Copy paste problem on stock ROM

Hi all,
I am having issues with copy and paste on my stock ROM. According to Clipper, nothing goes into the clipboard when I cut/copy text. I've tried this in S Memo, Gmail, Chrome, Messaging and Whatsapp, so it should be a system issue. Is anyone else having similar problems? Mine is running PDA: I9305ZHALI8. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!
Not mine. I've tried copying text from webpage to search bar, and even copied some text from Gmail to Whatsapp.
But...does I9305ZHALI8 exist? Mine is ZHALI7.
Where's your S III LTE brought from? Mine is HK.
Edit: Seen the upgrade. I decide not to upgrade first.
Fix
I hade the same problem, but i found a salution.
First open upp any root explorer app.
data and look for the folder named clipboard.
delite that folder and boot your phone in to recovery mode.
then you fix permissions.
hoped i helped
ansonscleung: I just upgraded today hoping that the update would fix this copy paste issue, but unfortunately it does not. I was on I9305ZHALI7 for almost two weeks.
Curwer: Thanks for your fix! I was hoping I wouldn't have to root but if I may have to do so if it really gets on my nerves...
sry I dont know any other way to fix this, maybe factory reset will but i´m not 100% on that :/

[TOOL][Restore System Apks]

Optimus L9 APK Push Tool!!
First, all credit goes to kevev for putting this all together, and saving me from pulling my hair out
Instructions via kevev readme!
This script will automatically push apk files along with a shell script to your device
under /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/APKs. It will then run the shell script which will copy
the apk files to /system/app/ and change the file permissions to 644.
No warranty included!!
Use at your own risk!!
1.) Place all apk files in the "APKs" folder that you want installed in the /system/app/ folder on your rooted device.
2.) Connect device to your computer after installing the correct adb drivers.
3.) Enable "USB Debugging" on the device and wait for the driver to install.
4.) Run "PushAPKs.bat" and reboot your device when it finishes only if there are "NO" errors.

I guess everything could have been done from the batch script. It was just starting to look messy and I am more comfortable with shell.
To tell the truth, I am very rusty with batch scripting. I haven't messed with DOS in ages. Unix all the way!
