[MOD] Answer call with volume buttons - Defy Themes and Apps

Hello guys!
My Defy didn't arrive yet, so i want you to help me test this thing.
I like hardware answer-call buttons but Defy doesn't have them so i decided to write a mod which will answer ringing call if you long-press any volume buttons.
Short-press should still work fine and silence ringer. Is that good idea?
I've modified android.policy.jar from 2.34 deodexed. Attached file will work only on 2.34 deodexed! Please don't ask how to install it; i dunno. If someone find this working, i'll be glad if you prepare update zip.
Note that it's my first time ever hacking Android and i'm totally not sure if it works.

So, does it work? Maybe idea is stupid or i posted in wrong section?

I think it's a good idea, because when wearing gloves, we can't answer!
would be nice to do the same for the camera. We could be able to take underwater pictures this way!

Okay my Defy came and so i tested and this mod DOES work nicely.
Although phone has quite small volume rocker and could be hard to press. But still better in cold winter
I can do 2.2 mod as well, not sure for which firmware. Also, where can i get compiled dexopt-wrapper to make odexed version

i like the idea. it would be better if it can be used to hang up a call as well...

The volume button is too small so I would rather use the screen.

I think this is great idea. I'm still wating my dev, but i've already have thinged about same thing - attach line up/down on long lower volume button and camera on valume up [not long].

FINALLY a solution to the keyboard backlight turning off

I have to give great credit to No2Chem over at PPCGeeks for putting together a solution to the issue with our CDMA landscape keyboard backlights shutting down after 5 seconds.
I diligently worked on CAB file that keeps the keyboard on all the time when the keyboard is open, and shuts off when you close it.
Here is the link to the Thread.

Donate if it works for you, and you like it.
Didn't work for me...
OUTSTANDING!
It requires a soft reset before it will work.
That explains it... I lost all my stylus so cant reset anymore
shutting off the phone is like doing a soft reset... hold the power button in for 4 seconds then it will confirm shutoff, then power on you just did a soft reset.

you can use a paperclip, or ballpoint pen, or just download the softreset CAB installer and that will give you a button under programs to do a software soft-reset, no need to press the button
-C
Thank you for posting this. Never thought I'd actually see it work!

At first I was gona correct you for correcting him, but then I remember the TP comes with two styli. haha
Finally, I can use my keyboard in the dark with fear of hitting the wrong key! By the way, is there a way to stop the keyboard from coming up on the screen every time I have to type something?!
Anybody else get the issue of the front keys staying on when the keyboard is in?

Yeah i wasn't necessarily correcting him, I just knew it sounded funny, but so does styli. was just wondering what you call those!
if you need a stylus just go in and ask, I bet they give you one. I get so much free stuff from a friend bc they can take what people return. I get battery covers and batteries. I have 3 sitting on my dresser now.

It seems I remember a setting in advanced config for "SIP Auto Deploy" that did the trick for me. I know I got it fixed (except in Opera), I just don't remember exactly how. So there's an answer out there if you look hard enough.
Can anyone explain why this interferes with the keyboard sliding sounds? Right now, if I use this, the sliding sounds won't work, but if I remove this, they work just fine.
i second that.....
on screen keyboard ? by rdar369,but then remembered the setting philipdhall mentioned and he's right ,want to try this cab file but read some where as well about the keys staying lit after closed and dont have an extended battery to spare the juice ,if i do try i will repost my findings

Query: notification lights

Hi everybody!
I bought a Optimus One to replace my HTC Magic Vodafone..
Since I'm missing the Notification led, I was wondering if there was some way to replace it with a glowing effect on the physical buttons or something like that..
Basically I'm asking to someone more able than me to tweak the phone to look if it is feasable or not ;P
+1 on that. "noled" app does something similar by using the screen, but I think that using backlight of phone's phyisical buttons would be the best solution.
Maybe if someone with enough skill can write an app or something..

Will recieve my LGOO tomorrow, can't wait for it !
Call me crazy guys and i truely do miss an external led notification light ..even external flashing led physical keys ...welp heh this is why i had free time to get intouch with an app developer to code the api's and do a simple app to hopefully (cross fingers) get this to work on our devices.
Needs time and a guine pig phone to test i got in return..so guys if i cant get someone to port a hd2 like api to get it flashing. So if i cant get a thrashed body phone in ok condition i might need a donor phone in alright working conditon to get testing done plus coding.
Just another step in development. I just wanna help much as i can.
+5 pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease give me it!!!

but hey, hope ya like it
looks cool man, here's sound clip I found you might like to go with it, it's HAL saying "I'm completely operational, and all my circuits are functioning perfectly."

much, much better. that was the best one I was able find... I started looking about 10 mins after you posted the bootani, I was trying to find a sound effect instead but everything sounded like crap and the vocal clip seemed like a cooler idea.
yeah I was just a little bored. I had just parked my big truck for the weekend, still had/have 3 cans of blue Monster whipping through my body and listening to Russ Martin Show on my backup phone (sucks living about 20-30 miles out of range of the station)
here it is in action
That's a nice... did you have to do any tweaking to get the audio timing to match or was it g2g without modding it? I may have to have it do a single repeat after a short pause.

ha ha!... remade the mp3 to have 4 seconds of silense at beginning to time it just right
I am running a desire hd port. Where do I need to place the boot animation and audio for this to work. I have it in system/media and its not working.

Thanks for this. Very clever and it was my first custom boot animation installation.
The only change I made is dropping the level of the audio file about -6db from orig file you posted. I think the boot audio plays back at max volume of phone so there is certainly room for adjusting. I may drop it even lower if I can.
Thanks for the editing of everything.
BTW: I'm on CM6 latest RC build.

Hey TNP.... I just saw this... I was like Chris farley in tommy boy when I played your video of the working bootani... After it was over, I froze for a moment, then said outloud "that was.... AWESOME!!"
It is very cool, perfectly retro, and... well.. I'm at a loss... its just kubricktastic!!
Thanks to all who helped the OP too. Can't wait to install it, and annoy my friends.
How about an old star trek bootani? The graphic wouldn't be too hard... Some compilation of lights that they had...Then, you just need the audio for the computer: a teletype machine sound followed by "WORKING..." un that monotone female voice.
It wouldn't be as cool as the HAL 9000, but another great one to annoy friends with!

cool...if you have any ideas, ie., youtube links to something youre thinking of, let me know, give me a head start
I will think of something In fact, I use cinema 4d a lot, and I could make a static panel with the blinking lights (I would have to research what that would be ), and then the animation could render in a series of images. isn't that how the animation on the android is stored? I could do the images for the animation, and then you could put it together (i will also try and find the sound...i also use adobe audition, so I could tweak it).
I will think about it and send you a frame for comments (dont know if you were a big start trek fan...but its been awhile for me...somebody here has to be...so a qualified opinion could be made). what format are the bootani images in?
Now that I think about it, you must have had the 2001 dvd cued up for quite awhile as your animation is so spot-on! I am going to wreck my phone because I keep finding reasons to reboot to watch the startup. (I love HAL though...used to use a whole system of alerts in windows with HAL .wavs.)

Cool.. I am working on some ideas. I have two questions: a. What is the frame rate? And B. How do you begin to gauge how long the animation must be?. I know it loops, but if I do a 4 second animation, and the minimum boot animation cannot be less than 5 seconds, then I would want to use that extra second before it starts to loop.
Also, I am fascinated with your animation, and details (the blinking text, etc.(. Did you use after effects? That was the only way I was able to replicate that fast blinking effect (somewhat).

[Q] Volume Rocker to change tracks?

I know this question has been asked a bunch of times, I'm just wondering if anyone found any way to do this on the E3D. I miss this feature on CM7 and is actually alot more convenient than using the buttons on my Motorola S10HD headphones, honestly.
Man I miss this also. I guess when full root comes?
A root craving Evo 3d
That would be annoying to me lol...
But to change buttons we probably need full root.

Yea I really miss that feature of CM. I highly doubt that anything like that will be an option until we get full S-off (hopefully soon!). I searched for any apps in the market that can remap the hard buttons, but my searching wasn't successful.

It's super convenient! I thought at first that it would be annoying too, by accidentally changing tracks. However, it needs to be a very deliberate long press of the volume rocker to change tracks. A quick press will still change the volume as normal. Comes in handy if you're out on a walk or something, and want to change tracks without taking the phone out of your pocket. Just reach down, find the volume rocker, and hold it down. So convenient and simple. I wish HTC had that feature built into Sense.
Come to think of it, an app could probably do this...If someone made it.
My RSS reader, Newsrob has it set to change the article with the volume rocker...

[app]Sleep widget (SUPER USER MOD only)

This is a small app I made, that does realy nothing other then call PowerManager.goToSleep.
This is normally not possible as DEVICE_POWER permission is only given to system apps, so will not work unless you have super user mod.
ROM developers can sign it with their ROM key if they wanr it in their ROM. If you sign it to your old ROM, please attach it to a post in this thread and I will add a link to your post.

Put the phone to sleep.
If I set screen timeout too short it will turn off while I'm reading something, if it's long enough I need to press the power button if I want to save battery, which is not very convenient. so this make it easy to put it to sleep

Only the sleep functionality of power button (short press), nothing to do with wakelocks oher then overriding any that are held at the time it is pressed, just as the power button does.
My mom would love something like this. She hates the powerbutton on her P, and I do too lol
I tried a few similar apps from play store, but most of them seemed to drain battery (not going to sleep properly?) or just cause freezes and other funny things. One of them actually completely locked up my One S, forcing me to go into recovery to uninstall it lol
So, question is, will this drain battery or cause funny issues? Or is it simply a 1:1 replica of the powerbutton?
Also, possibly slightly offtopic, but this(or super user mod) isnt working on ICS is it?
Ive been away from android stuff for almost a year now, so most of my devices are quite outdated software-wise
@Goatshocker
As I've said in the OP it realy does nothing, so no battery drain waht so ever.
It will work on (almost) any android version, providing it is "granted" the DEVICE_POWER permission, either by signing it with ROM key or if you have bypass this permission check like super user mod does.
As for the super user mod, it might work if you mod it for ICS yourself, I'll check ICS services.jar.
EDIT: I've looked at ICS services.jar and the code look about the same so I'm guessing you can mod it.
Aight, sounds good.
I found a lot of other interesting stuff that requires JB, so Im gonna go ahead and update it to JB.
Thanks for looking though.
@Goatshocker
A bit OT too, but if you realy hate the power button that much, I have another lil app I made, that turn the phone on waving the hand over the proximity sensor.
This does cause some battery drain, about 3% of total on my phone according to battery stats.
I know there are other apps that do it, but for some reason they hold a wakelock (at least some of them) while mine let the phone deep sleep, and all you need to do to stop it is click it in the notification tray.
It does not require any mod, and should work on any device.

Nope, a simple "power-button" on the screen is exactly what she needs and wants.

Issues like what? So far the only issue I have is that it is sometime difficult to wake up while in deep sleep.
I don't know what impact it has, if any, on the proximity sensor life time
