[REQ] Please add a subforum for the Viewsonic viewpad 7 - Viewsonic ViewPad 7 & Variants

I've just bought the Viewsonic Viewpad 7 yesterday. And I know lots of other people already bought one.
I think a sub-forum is needed to discuss, share information, and android development for this little nice unit.
Thank you, XDA.

Seconded!

Me too !
I hav a viewpad since 3 days would like a subforum too.

Viewsonic 7
A sub forum would be great...
Nice little device; struggling to find my way with customizing it, though.

The same! Wish to root and play with this little 7" =)
Anyone knows anything about it?

It'd be great if we could get a forum for us!

I just got mine in Hong Kong today for about $320 USD. Having a little buyers remorse because I can't find any decent ROMs for it. It appears that all these devices are the same ???
Camangi FM600
Commtiva N700
Spice Mi700
ViewSonic ViewPad 7
Sylvania 7 Inch Android Tablet
Commtiva N700
Kinpad I600
Malata T2
Olive Pad VT100
Maybe we can get a subforum for all of them?
Thanks

I just brought it in HK as well, just rooted, but the internal storage too small, does anyone know howto install App2SD script to my external mSD 8GB, I already have 2 GB partition with ext2. Which use on my X10mini.
thanks

Internet Setting for AT&T
Dear all, I bought this Viewpad 7 last week and the sales told me it should be working on AT&T. I tried put my 3G sim card into it, but it only can work as a cell phone (also WiFi) but cannot work on the 3G data provided by AT&T. I called AT&T techsupport today, they confirmed this device should be work. They also gave me the setting for internet, but still no help. I called Viewsonic techsupport, they said once I put the sim card in it should be automatic setup the internet setting. I have tried many time even factory reset, but still not working. Is anyone know how to setting it up? or any idea that can make this device go to web without WiFi? I really need using it outside the wifi area. Thanks.

The device does work with both AT&T and Rogers networks (I have used both personally on my device). Sounds like you may have gotten a defective unit. Don't be surprised, as the first Viewpad I received had to be RMA'd back to Newegg because it was defective. Sometimes the second time is the charm! Best of luck!

here is what AT&T gave me the spec.:
o Name: ATT WAP
o APN: wap.cingular
o Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
o Port: 80
o Username: Not Set
o Password: Not Set
o Server: Not Set
o MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
o MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
o MMS Port: 80
o MCC: 310
o MNC: 410
o Authentication type: None
o APN type: internet + mms
is this setting same as your?

Another vote for VP7 sub forum.

Voice/Data Phone Sim Card

Has any of the new owners try to use an at&t phone sim card in the JS to access the internet?
I ask because when I bought the Galaxy Tab 7 I couldnt use it out of the box, I had to root it and change the Rom in order to use it.

not sure, haven't tried, but what I will say is it is set to use the tablet/laptopconnect broadband apn. so putting you phone sim in would require you to use the wap.cingular apn which you would have to add manually to the apn list as it isn't there. i don't see why it wouldn't work and at&t would notice that your sim doesn't belong in the device as it is a valid registered imei in their system and not unknown like an unlocked tablet.
Does the 4g LTE require a new Sim Card? Is it different from the 3g sim card?

I am not sure but I dont think so because it is also H+ capable but my question is about a Data only Sim and not the same as the phones use.
AT&T uses new/different SIM cards for LTE. When I bought my Jetstream, they showed me the 2 SIM cards that work with LTE devices and complained that the SIM cards aren't obviously marked as LTE cards. 1 is for postpaid and 1 is for pre-paid. They hadn't received shipments of the LTE cards yet, even though we're in an LTE market, so they have to use the one in the LTE device's box. My AT&T 3G SIM card only gets HSPA+ in the Jetstream.

Ok so it works? And is your phone sim?
It shows the HSPA+ icon rather than LTE, and the wireless settings show it's connected to the HSDPA network. However, the built-in broadband APN doesn't work with my 3G smartphone SIM, I'd have to create a MediaNet APN and try to connect.
pdagal,
Using the same SIM as in the Focus my display first says:
A&T Initalizing... (Please Wait)
After a few minutes (long, long wait) it says... gave up waiting.
Anything special you had to do to get the unit to work using other ATT SIM?
You may need to get 4G HSPA+ enabled on your account and SIM. Several months ago I was using an HTC HD7S and it wouldn't work in AT&T's HSPA+ phones for data. I had to call up and tell them I was testing an Inspire 4G and needed HSPA+ enabled on my SIM.
That won't get you working LTE (that requires a different SIM), but hopefully you'll at least get HSPA+.
MANY thanks, will do that tomorrow.
3g SIM
Your existing 3G SIM (depending on age) will just simply need to be provisioned for LTE.
As well as the APN is different. Without updating your SIM you'll only get HSUPA or 3G.
Thanks, appreciate the info.
Hm Interesting. I have a unlocked dev jetstream and I tried putting in my 3G/HSDPA Sim with a active phone and data, and it'll only hook on edge, while same sim card in my phone can grab HSDPA instantly. Not sure why...

I'm not sure if your question was answered, I just placed my sim from my SGII on my Jetstream and it works. I had to add the APN "phone", that's all i did. I'm getting decent data speeds 4.5, 4.8, 5.3, 3.9 down and 2.9, 3.3, 3.1, 2.8 up.
There were two apns there, I believe one was activate and the other broadband.

[Q] tethering rooted att problem

I have rooted and unlocked my phone using elegantica. When I do WiFi thether my laptop says limited connectivity. Any ideas.. I tried setting profile to generic And generic ics ans fox routing option.. still no go.
Honestly, don't expect much help since tethering violates your contract
Slithered from my HTC One X+
Not if I am paying for it. Its just not working.
This sounds like an apn problem. It sounds like me, where tethering is indeed just part of your data plan on ATT so there are a couple files hard coded to provision tether which an aftermarket Rom may not have them still hard coded.
I'd Google att apn and then create a new apn using those settings like we did on T-Mobile.

It's shocking what you let networks get away with in america. If T-Mobile in the UK turned round tomorrow and said "You can't use the wifi hotspot on your phone without paying extra". They'd be bankrupt by close of business. Lol

Did it for years myself but since every good carrier has data caps its pointless to tether :/ and they have gotten pretty good at catching people, they send you a text saying "hey we know you have been tethering, enjoy your new more expensive data plan"
I guess I've just gotten used to it just got home WiFi and learned to use that instead
Slithered from my HTC One X+
Tethering is the only thing that makes me sorely miss my Galaxy Nexus. I had gotten tethering to work on AT&T with hacking my Atrix 4G before it, but I can't get it to work on the HTC One X+. I obviously have broadband at home and Wifi access at work, and COX just introduced free WiFi access at a lot of external locations around me free for use by it's customers, so I just need tethering in certain times...and it's these times that I wish I can get it to work on my HOX+ to get my Nexus 7 online.
Out of all these posts you all judge the OP but not help him.
Don't listen to these trolls. Check your APN. ATT uses varying gateways like tmobile to route tethering.

Jellybean ROM straight talk apn

I know there are probably a million threads on this site about straight Talk ATT settings, but I have yet to find one specific to my phone (Samsung Galaxy S2 i777) or ROM. I believe the ROM I have is called Hellybean, and I have had it for about a month using different combinations of APN settings with no luck as far as 4G goes. Before rooting I was using the stock UI with ICS that came through the network updates. I have seen in some threads people are saying you can't get 4G with ATT on straight Talk but I was getting 4G before I rooted! I at the time I was located in Central NY and using the default settings that come with the straight Talk sim as follows...
Name: straight Talk
APN: att.mvno
Port: 80
Mmsc: http (colon slash slash) Mmsc (dot) Cingular (dot) com (the actual characters of course)
Mms proxy: 66.209.11.33
Mms port: 80
Could it be because of the root? Did straight Talk maybe just stop offering 4G with its ATT Sims? I know it wasn't LTE but it was still better than 3G in my opinion. Any help is appreciated.
Update
After doing some more searching, I discovered that it the problem might be my modem--I am currently using I777UCLK3. Also I made a mistake on my earlier post, I am using Shostock3 ROM with Jeboo kernel. So what I'm going to try to do is re flash a newer version of this ROM, same kernel, and try out some different modems. I am flashing using the hell raise method I found in another thread as this is a i9100 ROM.
Still looking for apn settings suggestions. Any help is appreciated.
... And even as I try to post this... The phone randomly reboots. Nothing but problems since the beginning, but one problem at a time.

[Q] AT&T Dev Edition APN settings

Hi, In prep for all of us that ordered a developer edition, could you please supply us with the APN setup for MMSC, LTE, SMS etc. We most likely will need this to get anything more than a phone call through.
I don't think we will have to manually enter the APN. It should load the "phone" APN automatically.

I am not sure. I would hope the SIM will somehow hit the network and grab the APN settings for all areas but I also have heard of unlocked phones needing a manual entry. Anyone with an unlocked phone on At&t give us the settings please just in case. Even a new HTC one branded owner can look for us.

Thanks. Is that the only apn we need? What about the wap.cingular? Will this enable hspa and lte?
Hi,
I've tried all the APN setting but it does not work for me.
I wonder if this has something to do with my data plan. I have this old unlimited data plan, and my previous cell was Samsung S3 GT-I9300, which does not support 4G. I put in my sim and selected AT&T, but It shows ""connection failed due to incorrect apn setting".
I appreciate if anyone can help. Thanks!
Call AT&T. Have them switch your plan to unlimited lte.
That solved my problem. Thanks!!
I have a Tmobile HTC One and have unlocked SIM, now attempting to jump on ATT network. I got a SIM from an ATT store, but get no response when putting in APN settings. Any advice. Thanks a lot for your help.

I should have clarified. I have a smartphone that shows up as a non-smartphone in their system. That is $15 for unlimited. I suppose they won't let me keep that price/plan.

Please help! I can send/receive texts but don't have internet? (tmobile)

I just got my Ultra.
Took the sim card out of my Nexus 5 and put it into the Ultra. I immediately got some text messages but can't get internet working. I took it out and put it back in and still the same thing. I'm of course in a place where I had signal on my old phone.
I have the C6833 International Version and all my research said it would work fine on the T mobile LTE network.
Anyone have any idea what's going on??????
