[Q] USB OTG in Vibrant? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I hear that the usb chip in galaxy s supports otg. Is that how sound is implemented in the galaxy docks? I heard sound goes out via usb and one has to switch it via some android app. So is the galaxy dock housing a usb sound card? Could someone with a dock check what the dmesg messages are?
I'd like to play with OTG support, and it would be easier if the dock already does it. Does USB OTG allow charging(maybe with a custom usb cable, assuming usb gadgets get their power from usb hub)?

I alsowander weather. That is possible

[Q] Dual micro USB?

Hi together,
ive asked me if it is possible to use an adapter for 1x micro usb (plug) -> 2x micro usb (jack).
Could the phone handle 2 USB devices at the same time?
Maybe then it is possible to use the HDMI output and the USB host parallel?
For example to use an TV as screen and an HDD as the source for a movie.
This would be nice.
Thanks in advance.

When the connector is used for HDMI I doubt it can be used as USB at the same time, I'n sorry.
Maybe in a few months cyanogenmod provides a hack, if there will be an dual adapter soon.
We will see. Thank you.

The hardware needs to allow this if it'd become possible. You need a really smart USB dongle that knows how to split the HDMI output from the USB output.
Sounds a little too difficult to ever happen.
Hmm thats right. I think i still dream xD
But thank you.

it is not possible. because as stated on this forum many times before, the type of usb connection is determined by the resistor between pin 4 and 5 of the micro usb connector. the strength can tell the phone, that there is either a charger, a pc connection, car kit, jig, usb otg or mhl connection present.
and i believe, this is an important thing to keep in mind for so many things:
for instance, why the original car kit triggers car mode and generic car charging cables don't or why not just any micro usb male to usb a female will work as a otg cable or why flashing should be done with the original usb cable...
so if you were to buy or build a micro usb hub, since it has no resistor in the very plug that connects to the phone, it cannot be used for anything but charging and quite frankly, i wouldn't connect more than one charger to the phone.
however, if you want to use your phone for presentations or watching movies and still be able to use it, get a bluetooth keyboard and mouse or a bluetooth presenter or do it the other way around and use a usb input device and transfer your media using allshare. everything else is physically impossible, so neither CM nor XDA can do anything about it. the only device that can do what you want is the new motorola. it has a separate micro usb and micro hdmi port and a docking station, so you can use it as a full notebook.
Thats obvious. Thank you.

New MHL and USB OTG issue

I've got a new MHL cable and a USB OTG cable in the hope I could plug my MHL into the SGS3, use a powered USB hub connected to the Micro USB(as this requires independent power) on the MHL and then connect a keyboard and mouse into the USB hub, then connect the HDMI to the TV.
For me it doesn't work. I thought this was the whole reason they changed the MHL cable to the new type. Can anyone else confirm?

I dont think Hub will work on the phone, I am not sure....
Anyway GS2 MHL no longer will work on SGS3, Samsung has released seperate MHL for SGS3, which are available in the Market,
I bought it and tested, working fine for me...

i am planning to get the MHL for S3, if i connect it to the TV, are usb drivers needed in order for it to function properly?
thanks in advance

Afaik the S3's MHL-Adapter is self-powered and does no longer rely on an external power source to operate. (Hooray!)

No, that's a pure HDMI adapter and thus Plug&Pray
Make sure to get a MHL adapter for the S3, the adapters for the S2 and other devices are not compatible to the new pin layout.

[Q] Bluetooth USB Hub

I've looked around and haven't found anything that seems to do what I am looking for.
I have a Nexus 4 and the lack of USB OTG is quite depressing, I want a Bluetooth hub to which I can connect a USB keyboard and mouse, I need the Slimport for HDMI out so I can use my phone like a computer with an HDMI cable.
Are there any products out there that connect to a phone via Bluetooth and have multiple USB port host functionality?

Did you find any Bluetooth USB hub? Can a WiFi USB hub solve your problem?

HDMI and USB OTG at the same time, possible?

Hi,
Has anyone managed to successfully find a solution to give an hdmi out display from the note pro 12.2, at the same time as a usb port via otg cable.
What I essentially want to do is to have the note pro at my desk connected via hdmi to a monitor, and still be able to use usb devices such as pen drives etc. Is there any kind of cable combination that will allow for this? I've not been able to find anything.
Thanks
Duncan
I have these:
Usb 3.0 Hub:

Usb OTG (with connection for external charger, a must have if you're gonna power devices via USB)

USB A to microUSB adapter, this one is for the HDMI cable:

You should try all-share-cast or screen cast(via miracast/chromecast) for video and audio. That would do everything easier.

USB-C Dock with HDMI out and "normal" aka Slave USB in, NOT OTG ?

Hi,
i have an USB-C "Dock" cable that offers: -HDMI Out -USB-C in ONLY for charging -USB-A to plug in OTG devices like USB Stick
That is quite normal if you use the Dock on an Apple Notebook.
BUT i use it on my Huawei P20 Pro, i would like to have USB slave Interface, not OTG as i want to be able to use the phones USB port like "normal" (e.g. have an USB ADB Connection to it while using HDMI out)
So i would need the USB to NOT work in OTG mode but to allow "normal" USB Connection to the phone. Is it possible to have HDMI out and phone in "USB-slave" mode ?
I was able to open the case of the box, any hints if that is possible at all and how to achieve it ?
(I guess i found the 5kOhm pulldown on the B5 line already, A5 seems to gotoa complex chip...)
Any hints on how to mod that Dock OR where to buy a Dock that offers this unusual configuration ?
Greetings,
Nils
i dont think thats possible unless you can cast your phone screen wireless to a TV or monitor an then you can use the usb port for ADb
