What sold you on the Folio? - Folio 100 General

I'm looking for a Tegra-2 based 10-inch tablet running Android 2.2 and one that has XDA support. I looked at the Viewsonic G Tablet and the Malata Z-Pad. the Toshiba seems to be the mainstream equivalent so I'm wondering if I should spend the extra money and get a "name-brand" tablet like the Folio.
I'm just curious as to what sold you on the Folio versus what else is available on the market?
TIA,
Chris R.

Its tegra 2 is cheap and with the latest mod is fast as hell

FolioMod sold it to me. Tegra 2 as a good second bet. Too bad the viewing angles are absolutely horrid on this. Otherwise a very potent package.

I noticed that when you turn the folio upside down, the viewing angles are a lot better (especially when watching movies in your bed)

I just adjust my stand according to the angle i'm viewing it from. I use a GorillaPod stand as a temporary solution, very easy to customize.

The LCD is not so bad, it's bright and vivid enough. Of course the view angle is aweful, but you will get use to it! After all is tablet and is supposed to seat close to you in your hands- If you forget some small issues is quite a good deal. Sad thing is that Toshiba support is a joke!

OT: Yes, it's almost starts me thinking if Toshiba just failed (again) with the assembling of this device.
I constantly uses it "upside down" now since the viewing angle is better.
The price, hw spec (tegra2) and foliomod was what got me to buy it. If I didn't know about dexters (and others) work on this piece I would probably never bought it, especially after all the bad press it was getting after getting pulled from the stores.
But I just can't stop liking it.

LOL, same here.
I knew the Folio wasn't perfect when I bought it, but I also knew it had potential.
I'm quit happy but I feel for those who bought the device and never heard of XDA, stuck on a market that fits on there device entirely.

Hey guys, im thinking of getting a LG Optimus One(p500), is it worth the money? (170 euros over here), does it slow down, is the camera good, etc? or should i get something else?
It's generally decent for the price, there's plenty of roms in the development section for it, the camera is USELESS in the dark though. everything else works perfectly though.
However, there's a few issue you have to take note of.Even though it's froyo aka Android 2.2, because of the hardware, it does not support Adobe Flash Player. And there is a bug in this phone and that is when you touch the screen when playing games or doing anything else, the frames will drop and the phone will lag. It's a touch screen bug I believe.Just hope that Android 2.3 will take care of this problem.Take note of all those things.
Its a great device for the price I bought it in Germany for 242€ on Amazon.
It does have some software issues.
On the Hardware side the device is pretty good.
The Screen is a LCD screen compared to the OLED of the i5700 it doesnt have any pixel problems.
The camera is more then enough for making pictures except in the dark I think even an LED Light wouldn't make so much differences. And who is making pictures late at night? Outside even and LED light wouldnt make a difference.
On new year I will try to make some pictures with it. ^_^
The device does have enough RAM and besides the software-issues its a great device.
I'm sure LG will fix this for their most successful android smartphone.
And we will get Gingerbread...
My first post in here... well...
im using this phone since 2nd December ... i bought it at 205euros [device only, unbranded etc etc...] with car charger + windshield stand.
I previously had an iPhone 3G and sold it because i got bored with that... so actually that's my 1st android device.
For the ammount of money i've spent ... the accesories i got along + a bluetooth stereo that i use for music, i have to say that it's the best phone i've seen!
I've been searching the market after selling my iphone for a new one with android [2.2froyo from the box!] with a price around 200euros and that's the only one i found!
This phone is a bargain and for me the only disadvantage is the Screen lag when being touched [software problem, may be fixed on gingerbread] and the fact that it doesnt have v7 processor so it doesnt support flash [no big deal but... :/]

Transformer Prime running ICS - Demos

Hands on The Transformer Prime
wish he could have made some other movies of web browsing or just switching between screens but it's been the closest real life look at it so far.
fingerprints still look to be an issue. also why does the screen look so pixelated in the task manager screen?
just the camera being picky. not even a concern.
looks good. thanks for the pics
the dock is exacly the same as on my TF1.. is it?
It's not. The whole unit is slightly narrower than the TF1, so it may not fit in the dock.
Did anyone else notice how the dock's touchpad has no buttons?

Transformer Prime Camera Quality!!
I remember seeing some people commenting on that camera on tablet is pretty useless, people aren't gonna be taking picture from their tablet.
The way I see is is, if its "THIS GOOD", people WILL USE IT!!
A picture taken from the new Tranformer Prime!!

i'm getting a loop when i use google translate, anyone can get a proper translation?
Have you ever seen someone taking a photo with a tablet?
No?
I have! It is pretty hilarious even with a 7" screen.
Sorry even thou I can't wait to get the Prime I will certainly not often take pictures with it.
Thanks for posting this. Makes me want one even more now!
from the translated link on engadget
"4) Prime does not fit in the base / Transformer original keyboard and vice versa. Each with its keyboard."

Here's another stage of " GLOWBALL " playing on a Production Tegra Prime Tablet.

Looks like the guy confirmed one thing for sure: the Prime doesn't work with the TF101 dock, and vice versa. I know that's been pretty much assumed, but it's good to finally get some kind of (even unofficial) confirmation.
So the TF1 dock won't work with the TF2?

What is your source? Not that I don't believe you, I would just like a little more proof.

Prime Review

Never posted here and perhaps this post isn't necessary but felt compelled. I preordered from Amazon on 11/22 and was salivating for a month until the GPS issues started to be reported. The salivating turned to apprehension. On 1/3 I received the Prime and it is indeed gorgeous. Sadly I'm suffering the same problems as most. No need to beat a dead horse. The GPS issue I can stomach since I have a bluetooth Garmin that works fine with the Prime. However the poor GPS performance is extremely disappointing. Simply transferring files from my laptop to the Prime over wi-fi was much slower that transferring between other devices in my home. In fact so far I'd say it's unusable in that regard. I should add that I'm sitting less than 3 feet from my router when transferring.
Perhaps my expectations were too high but with the keyboard my plan was that this device would replace my laptop for all but the most rigorous tasks. That's not going to happen and now I'm not even sure I'm going to order the keyboard.
BTW BT is weak as well. If all of these issues are indeed due to the aluminum case it's just unbelievable to me that a company could screw up this bad. I'm hopeful that someone comes up with something even if it's just providing instruction on how/where to take a drill to the darn thing. But my expectations aren probably too high on this front too.
In short unless someone has disposable income I'd advise they steer clear and wait for a better offering. I'll likely keep mine until something better appears then I'll be putting it on Ebay.
That's not review, you are beating the dead horse....

Well I guess you're right. A mod can remove and my feelings won't get hurt.
I guess I just wanted to get my shots in on that horse.
ride the dead horse.
a drill won't fix it. you need to point the screen at the router.
the entire foundation of the tablet is built into the aluminum case. everything is screwed into it.
the antennas are on either side of the front-facing camera. want better reception, point the tablet screen in the direction of your router or BT tether
How to Bluetooth tether?
>How to Bluetooth tether?
Put phone in one can and tablet in the other (use bigger can for tablet)

Nice painting, lolz all I'll do with stuff like that is my stickman figures
With which app did you draw/paint that?
video looks cool. A paint brush seems it wouldn't be able to get in those fine spaces and would be for more blob tools.
I guess I would need to see how sensitive it is on the screen.
I used Infinite Painter, I like the selection of brushes and blenders. My all time digital favorite is ArtRage, but not available for Android yet.
Wow, thats pretty cool! I use the Jot for everything but for painting admittedly it sucks horrifically. I really like how it is an actual brush it sure made your drawing look amazing!
That looks neat, but is it really comparable to the kind of experience you could get using a Wacom tablet? In my experience, the tf101 is too laggy with my capacitive stylus.

I doubt it comes anywhere close to using a Wacom tablet but I don't find it too laggy. I think the biggest difference is the pressure sensitivity or lack of. ASUS makes a Windows tablet with a Wacom stylus but the price is steep.

I'm curious; is there a paid version? I can't find it on the market, and apparently the free version doesn't let you save?.
Also, this comment (about the free version) is interesting: "PLEASE make it compatible for tablets like the ASUS Transformer TF101 and Xoom etc as it doesn't work right and the scaling is a bit off". It sounds like your experience is a bit different, to say the least Any idea what this person is talking about?
Oop, just thought of something else. What's the resolution of the canvas? IIRC, Autodesk's SketchBook is limited to 1024xsomething which is pretty lo-res.

Budget phone stand?

What are you fellas using? My old one just tips over because of this behometh.
Looking for a clean looking one.

you can search on AMAZON for MINIMAL PHONE STAND
I bought this Anker Stand from Amazon a couple of years ago and have used it for 3 different phones and 4 different tablets. Still works great, and the ability to change the angle is a really nice bonus.
