Usb/ wifi tether apk - Vibrant Themes and Apps

Does anyone have the stock usb/ wifi tether apk that comes with the stock 2.2 froyo upgrade for vibrant?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

I believe its built into the settings.apk
I'm curious as to why you need it. If you're still running 2.1, I recommend upgrading to 2.2, it's been a daily driver for me since jk2. Or if you don't, there is a mod for mobile ap to allow for wifi tether, but not the usb internet sharing.

my 2.2 from team whiskey comes with mobile ap for wireless , and has a setting to share internet using usb also... if you dont want to update, download an app called pdanet

You can also use the Android Wifi tether app but you phone must be rooted.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=2&q=NexusOne

I'm using Bionix-V but cannot find an app related to wifi and wireless tethering nor do I see any options under "Wireless and network." Consequently have been using PdaNet. Am I missing out on a simpler approach?

It's in settings -> wireless and network where it's always been.

Its called mobile ap

THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I was looking under Settings|Wireless and network|tethering and also perhaps under applications! Couldn't find the darn thing anywhere! But now I see it under Settings|Wireless and network|Mobile AP. One of the great things about Android is all the flexibility. Unfortunately, it is also real easy to miss something!
Thanks again....

[Q] Samsung S Vibrant can't do wireless Tethering like Nexus One?

Hi folks,
Got my phone from T-Mobile. Rooted it with OCLF. Then installed wireless tethering app on the phone. After I launch the app and then tried to find the wifi spot from my laptop, nothing is found.
I'm using the original 2.1
This kind of problems never happened on my previous N1. Is this a common problem for this Samsung phone? Any solutions? Thanks.
You rooted with the oclf? Download terminal emulator and and type in su, you should get a pop up asking for root access, if not you aren't rooted

Yes. I checked. I do have root.
The problem is that the wifi tethering (SSID) is not show when I search the available wireless spot on my laptop (or iPad)
Install a Bionix Rom and you will have no issues. It's built right in under wireless and network settings.

Best Tethering app?

Im rooted now im wondering whats the best app to get for tethering?
I want to usb tether and wifi teather ....any ideas?
thanx
use the google one
current stable release is 2.06 i think
I use Barnacle, nice and easy
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Well if you are interested in tethering with a lapdock (as I am with unlimited) Barnacle works flawless after associating. The wifi tether required I change the network proxy to default before it passed validating. But I got it off the market so the beta pre 3.0 may work better. Market version also didn't allow some controls.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I use a combo of Barnacle + Mobile Hotspot.
What do you guys use for a wired tether?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I use PDAnet if I need to tether via USB. But I rarely have to.
There is also a wired tether app. I found it with a Google search. Its just like wireless tether except wired. I can't attach it from the app here but its out there.

Are you rooted and enabled third party apps? Have to be rooted to use wifi tether and need to enable third party apps when you root to be able to install the file
Hey thanks for replying, I've only been using android for about a few months now, used to be a windows mobile fan, dislike it. Switching over to this, not sure what exactly that is, am a techno dude, if there are some steps maybe you could guide me, appreciate it. thanks.

Might want to do a little reading on what all rooting is before you do it. But basically it gives you more control over the phone. Once rooted and allow third party apps you should be able to download wifi tether and install it.
Thanks for the article. completed, also followed the sticky for rooting on here. ATT=money maker company, can't believe we can't install non market apps right out of the box.

Wanna tether internet in infrastructure mode? READ THIS

Lets say you want to share the internet from your new (rooted) photon to one of those super sweet Xoom tablets or other device that doesn't like to connect to an ad-hoc network (PS3, Touchpad, etc...) Well you can either mod the device so it plays nice with ad-hoc (in the case of the Xoom you can use the link in my signature) or you can mod your phone to put out an infrastructure network signal.
So without any more talk... download the newest Wifi-Tether 3.0
Go into settings and change:
Device profile - Nexus One
Setup Method - Netd (master)
And there you go!
Super simple and easy solution.
Remember the thanks button!
Doesnt work when u activate wifi tethering it somehow activates the stock tethering an then says mobile ip reg error an reboots the phone.....

Works fine for me...for a bit. It piped up with "wireless tether has been granted super user permissions" after it had been tethered for a good deal if time with but only 16mb of data transfer. Then it locked up my radio and wireless.

There is an EASIER and BETTER way ti get Free WIreless Tether for the Xoon AND HP Touchpad:
Goto Amazon Free Apps and download (for free) Tethering Widget. Install as a Widget and you are off and running with free wireless tether. Did this on my Photon and my wife's Photon with no issues. Works flawlessly. The Works on XOOM and HP TOUCHPAD. Enter a SSID (or keep default)>change to WPA2 PSK>Enter Password> Change to Channel 11. And both devices will will recogize the NEW Free Wireles Tether. Awesome.

I don't have 4G here in my little neck of the woods so I haven't been able to test it. As I understand it you need to start with 3G and then turn on 4G, but I haven't tested it at all (just read about it.)
I hope it works tethering 4G would be very nice.

To get the 3.0 version just download the 4shared app from market and search "wifi-tether". Also after that search just search for "apk " to see more results.

[Q] about tethering

Currently I'm using LS ics aosp mr3 and sometimes I switch to tshed 1.6 when I have a hankering for Netflix usability.
It is my understanding that root+rom=free tethering.
1. Do all roms have built in tethering without having to dl a 3rd party app?
2. For those that do (if not all) why do people use 3rd party apps anyway? Is there a benefit?
3. I notice LS doesn't seem to have built in *wired* tethering but I still have a paid 3rd party app for that from my unrooted days. So question is, is there any speed advantage to using wired tethering over wireless?

Yes, root + ROM = Free tethering
Answer to number 1: No, not all ROMs include a tethering app. You can download one from the playstore if this may be the case. Usually the tethering app included with a ROM is a third party app, but is there because the developer would suggest its use for that ROM... usually because they tested wifi tethering on their ROM with that specific app.
Answer to number 2: Third party tethering apps are in play store in case the ROM didn't include a tethering app. Also, if you use Titanium Backup to backup your working wifi tethering app and its settings, it's less of a pain to just restore that previous tethering app and its data so that you can skip setting up the app again.
Answer to number 3: I'm unaware of speed advantages of internet by tethering wired compared to wireless. Just see what works best for you.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
Ok. Number 2 comes from LS, it has built in tethering however I noticed people in the dev section under the LS thread talking about getting "wifi tether" from the market and making it use the nexus one settings and all that and I'm thinking... why bother with all that if its got its own.
Thank you sir.

You can try it if you want to and see how it works for you.
But no, I highly doubt there is a internet speed difference between wired and wireless tethering. A mobile data connection is a mobile data connection, no matter how it's shared.
I suppose some people just don't like using wires, which is understandable.
I haven't tried the built in tether yet but the cm7 tether wasn't as good at keeping a connection as WiFi tether from the market.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Btw. Without starting a new thread, or should I? What is the lightest yet fully working AOSP Gbread rom? I've been using tshed but even that seems to have a bit of unnecessary stuff packed in. Like Rom Manager for instance...I'm on 4ext now so that's useless. I'm not brave enough to go removing system apps. I don't know what's necessary.
Sent from my ThunderBolt using xda app-developers app
I think sfkcm7 is the lightest. To delete a system app all you need to do is download a root file explorer line es file explorer and give it root permissions in the settings and mount system as read/write. Then navigate to /system/app and delete the apps that you dont use like Rom manger.

Ok. Deleted rom manager from system/app, rebooted. Its still installed and not removeable. Now what? Please forgive my newbishness.

I would recommend taking a look at FoxFi and if your rooted Wireless Tether for Root Users. Keep in mind depending on your carrier handles tethering you may have to change some app settings, for tethering to function properly. Let me know if you still have questions.

Are using the wireless hotspot or USB tethering feature of Foxfi? Make sure that your in a location where your phone is getting a strong data signal as well.
