Best Tethering app? - Atrix 4G Themes and Apps

Im rooted now im wondering whats the best app to get for tethering?
I want to usb tether and wifi teather ....any ideas?
thanx

I use Barnacle, nice and easy

Well if you are interested in tethering with a lapdock (as I am with unlimited) Barnacle works flawless after associating. The wifi tether required I change the network proxy to default before it passed validating. But I got it off the market so the beta pre 3.0 may work better. Market version also didn't allow some controls.

I use a combo of Barnacle + Mobile Hotspot.

What do you guys use for a wired tether?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App

I use PDAnet if I need to tether via USB. But I rarely have to.

There is also a wired tether app. I found it with a Google search. Its just like wireless tether except wired. I can't attach it from the app here but its out there.

dont mean to hijack, but when you go to enable tethering, do you guys get the att validating notification and says your account is not setup for hotspot? how do you get arround that? i already have the apn set per the other thread.

tried to install this app and received the dumb security code for:
"THIS APPLICATION COMES FROM AN UNKNOWN SOURCE AND FOR YOUR SECURITY ONLY APPLICATIONS FROM TRUSTED SOURCES CAN BE INSTALLED." WTH. =/
Tried to go into settings and can't find a way to bypass this.

Are you rooted and enabled third party apps? Have to be rooted to use wifi tether and need to enable third party apps when you root to be able to install the file

Hey thanks for replying, I've only been using android for about a few months now, used to be a windows mobile fan, dislike it. Switching over to this, not sure what exactly that is, am a techno dude, if there are some steps maybe you could guide me, appreciate it. thanks.

Might want to do a little reading on what all rooting is before you do it. But basically it gives you more control over the phone. Once rooted and allow third party apps you should be able to download wifi tether and install it.

Thanks for the article. completed, also followed the sticky for rooting on here. ATT=money maker company, can't believe we can't install non market apps right out of the box.

[Q] Samsung S Vibrant can't do wireless Tethering like Nexus One?

Hi folks,
Got my phone from T-Mobile. Rooted it with OCLF. Then installed wireless tethering app on the phone. After I launch the app and then tried to find the wifi spot from my laptop, nothing is found.
I'm using the original 2.1
This kind of problems never happened on my previous N1. Is this a common problem for this Samsung phone? Any solutions? Thanks.
You rooted with the oclf? Download terminal emulator and and type in su, you should get a pop up asking for root access, if not you aren't rooted

I got wireless tether.
It's awesome!

Yes. I checked. I do have root.
The problem is that the wifi tethering (SSID) is not show when I search the available wireless spot on my laptop (or iPad)
Install a Bionix Rom and you will have no issues. It's built right in under wireless and network settings.

Usb/ wifi tether apk

Does anyone have the stock usb/ wifi tether apk that comes with the stock 2.2 froyo upgrade for vibrant?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I believe its built into the settings.apk
I'm curious as to why you need it. If you're still running 2.1, I recommend upgrading to 2.2, it's been a daily driver for me since jk2. Or if you don't, there is a mod for mobile ap to allow for wifi tether, but not the usb internet sharing.

my 2.2 from team whiskey comes with mobile ap for wireless , and has a setting to share internet using usb also... if you dont want to update, download an app called pdanet
You can also use the Android Wifi tether app but you phone must be rooted.

I'm using Bionix-V but cannot find an app related to wifi and wireless tethering nor do I see any options under "Wireless and network." Consequently have been using PdaNet. Am I missing out on a simpler approach?
It's in settings -> wireless and network where it's always been.
Its called mobile ap

THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I was looking under Settings|Wireless and network|tethering and also perhaps under applications! Couldn't find the darn thing anywhere! But now I see it under Settings|Wireless and network|Mobile AP. One of the great things about Android is all the flexibility. Unfortunately, it is also real easy to miss something!
Thanks again....

I too thank you. I didn't even know that was there.

Rooted my phone, root seems ok, but i still cant tether

I hope it's ok to make a topic about this... Been looking around without finding any duplicate posts. I should note that i had an older rezound that i rooted just fine on gb and it tethered fine.
This new one had ics before i rooted it, and i get issues with any tethering app i use; even barnacle, which was the one i used last time. Ill post the error message i get in a subsequent post, but i think it had to do with difficulties making an ad-hoc connection or something.
Anybody face this issue?

Use this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether
Go to settings in the app, set devuce profile to HTC rezound or Samsung galaxy nexus CDMA.
Change setup method to net D master, turn off encryption and scroll down and check to enable routing fix.
Delete the Verizon mobile hotspot app and the system app TetheringGuard.apk
be sure to grant superuser or supersu root access

Awesome, thank you for your post. I followed you up until the delete the verizon mobile hot spot app and the tetheringGuard.apk. What is the preferred way to do this? I have titanium backup pro (that i normally freeze my apps with, I know thats not the same) could i do it through there?

Don't worry about answering this. You can if you want. I just tried it from the point I was at and wifi tethering is now working. Thanks again man.
Amazing how the settings actually matter... I know I had tried this app already lol
Yeap its very picky with those settings, and titanium backup is exactly the app I use to uninstall those two apk's

Hotspot

After rooting my device im looking for a good hotspot app, I downloaded one fr the play store however it didnt even ask me for root user permission and it was like if I was using verizon hotspot that comes with the phone. My fear is of getting a charge on my bill although it didnt even notify me of a charge

All you need is a widget to activate the built-in hotspot feature, such as Portable WiFi Hotspot. It will open the built-in hotspot app, however it bypasses the subscription check. I've been running it for months, as well as others, without any issues from Verizon. It's the best and easiest way to tether IMO.

wifi tether app from the play store
I use this app and it works like a charm. It has everything basic you need plus the ability to password protect your tethered network.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether
Also, alot of custom ROMs come with tethering apps in their setting or mod sections.

Although updated to support the verizon S4 several days ago it still didn't work, and I no longer see it in the play store.

Link isn't working
Odd...it works for me. Try using this website to get to it, or try searching for a WiFi tether app in the PlayStore, there are a million of them.

Anyone? The one posted above is not available on the play store. Even so I downloaded it and it still isn't working on the rooted verizon S4.
