[Q] Dexter update does not work - Folio 100 General

Pls. help me. i cannot get the updates from Dexter to work. My Folio keep aborting the installatio. I am following the procedure step by step.
Instead of getting the executable line "install SDCARD:update.zip" I see
"Apply SDCARD:update.zip"
Can anyone hrlp??

Are you sure you correctly extracted the ZIP content to your SD card? Because the "update.zip" file is located inside the downloaded ZIP, along with a "readme" text.

EEuuuhhh,, its the same, install or apply the sdcard:update zip
navigate to apply sdcard update.zip using +/- vol buttons, and select it using the power button.
updates just need to be copied to root of sd card and applied, no need to extract etc...

Ups, did not see that coming. Thanks a lot. You saved my day.

[Q] Trying to install ClockworkMod

I've tried about a million times now and can not get my Gtab into clockwork recovery. I downloaded the internal version of clockworkmod and hooked my gtab up to the computer and placed the clockworkmod zip in the recovery folder and unzipped it. Then I turned my device off and held down the power button + vol + it then says "Recovery key detected" and acts like its installing. Then It reboots and I turn it off again and it just keeps doing the same thing saying "
recovery key detected" and won't boot into clockwork!!!! Advice please?? And I know this is a noob question, I do. I tried following the instructions on the stickies but they're vague as to which clockwork zip I am to download??? Please help. Thanks!!!
From what I gather, after you download the internal zip you unzip that so you see the update.zip file & recovery folder. You move both of those to the root of the g-tab which would be /sdcard. I haven't done it yet since mine is charging right now.
Trying it now
GOLDEN....Finally! Thank you sir!

Hmm?.. I think the issue you are having is moving the update zip into the recovery folder.
when you extract the files from the zip file extract them to the main directory "/SCARD" and thats it.
After you extract it you should see (in that directory) a folder that says "Recovery" , within that folder there should be a file named "Command" and thats it, no more files in there.
Also in that main directory you should see an "update.zip" file, leave it there. DON'T MOVE IT into the recovery folder.
from there follow directions to boot into recovery mode.
1) Power down
2) Press and Hold down volume up + rocker
3) Press and hold Power Button
4) when device powers on you will see "Recovery Key Detected"
5) release buttons
6) recovery will install and reboot as normal.
7) Power down and follow steps 1 through 5 again.
8) You should be in recovery mode now.
Edit:
Took too long to make this post!! LOL
my noob questions...what version did you use and can you post a link to it?? i am getting my g tab today!!
thx...

Tekrhino, I feel stupid but I have to ask for your help re: this same issue. It seems so clear on what to do from your instructions but I still can't get clockwork recovery to load. I'm having the exact same issue of not getting into clockwork recovery so I must be doing something wrong.
Maybe by telling my steps you can get me on the right path.
1. Downloaded clockwork mod to desktop.
2. extracted update.zip now I have a file that says update unzipped.
3. attached gtab to usb, recognized by computer as removable disk.
4. click on "open folder to view files and see list of different files on gtab
5. copy and paste recovery and update unzipped to this window and disconnect gtab from computer and then try to do the above mentioned steps to get into recovery. get the recovery key is detected message but can't get into clockwork recovery.
I must be doing something wrong but can't figure out what! Any suggestions that can point out the error of my process will be very much appreciated.
GGGwhatever!!
You don't need to unzip update.zip. You just put it in the /sdcard directory and the reboot to CWM and take the CWM options to run it.
Rev
Download CWM to your computer.
Uncompress it get two files (recovery and update.zip) Do not unzip update.zip
put these two files in your root directory on your Gtab ( SDCARD)
Hold Vol+ button turn on.
Sit back and watch

I just got my tablet today and am still playing around with the stock, but from what I read I think your mistake is unzipping the "update.zip" file.
You only unzip the clockwork mod file you downloaded. Then you have two files: 'update.zip' and 'recovery' (folder). Leave the update.zip alone, don't unzip it and put these two files onto your gtab. Either internal storage (sdcard) or microsd card (sdcard2), depending on which clockwork file you have.
Thanks Rev! I know it is something simple but it was what I needed to get started.
Now I can play!
Newbie possible screwup

[Q] Question about update.zip and recovery file

Hey everybody! To start off I am a noob at this stuff and really need your help. I just got my Gtablet from Woot.com and am following the instructions to install clockworkmod on it. My root menu already has a file named recovery and a zip file named update.zip. I tried adding the 2 files from the provided downloads on this site as well as removing the ones already loaded in my Gtab but everytime I reboot the Gtab it comes back up in stock TNT and not the clockworkmod. Any ideas?
when rebooting, do you reboot in recovery mode? Pressing power and volume+ buttons altogether.
If you didn't, do that, thats how you get in clockworkmod.
Yeah and the message says "detected recovery key" or something like that but still nothing.

Hi,
You don't want a *FILE* named 'recovery', but rather need to have a *DIRECTORY* named 'recovery', and a file named 'command' in that 'recovery' directory.
So before rebooting, you should have:
/sdcard/update.zip
/sdcard/recovery/command
Then power off
Power on + Vol+

P.s. when you power on w Vol+, the Gtab will look for that /sdcard/recovery/command file, and if it finds it will 'execute' the instructions inside the command file. If it can't find an /sdcard/recovery/command file it just boots to Android. It sounds like that's what happening in your case, I.e., no command file, so boot Android...
Jim
Additional info:
The "command" file should have a line in it reading:
--update_package=SDCARD:/update.zip
You can edit the "command" file with Notepad on your PC, but make sure to
save it only to "command" with not .txt or any other suffix.
Also, when you use a recovery process -- Android erases the command file
so you can't do it again by mistake. So it pays to have a backup copy
of the command file somewhere where you can copy it back in if needed.
Hope this adds to the help already given.

Need Help..... Please

I ordered my g tablet yesterday and cant wait for it to come in. So tonight I am downloading a rom and clockworkmod v8 so I will be ready when it comes in. However I need a little help. I read the guide on installing clockworkmod and a rom but cant firgure something out. It says to un zip the files into the root of the device. When it means un-zip does it mean to "right click" than "extract all" Because when I do this the recovery folder doesn't have the zipper on it anymore but the update folder still does. Is this right?
The recovery folder and the zip file called update is what you will need to transfer to the root of your SD card when you connect your tablet to the PC. The recovery folder should not be in a zip format, but the update file should be.
ok thanks. But both folders go in the root right?
Yes. Then boot into recovery and it will start the update after so many seconds.
the update folder just says "update" it doesn't say update.zip however it is a zipped folder. Is it the same thing?
Most operating systems, referring to Mcrosoft, hides the extensions of files, but if it has the look of a zip file or what ever software you may be using, I would assume that would be the update file just not showing the .zip extension.
You are making it hard. Just do this.
Hook up Gtablet to your pc by USB. See which drive your pc asigns to your GTablet. Download the correct Clockwork Mod you need.
Unzip it to a folder on your pc. Then just drag and drop the two files after zipping to the drive your pc assigned to your Gtablet. On mine it is G. Yours may be F.
Then just power down your GTablet and then power up holding down power and volume + till you get Viewsonic screen and a message in upper left corner that recovery has started.
Then go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
If ClockworkMod installed, start with Part 1, step 6 or 7. READ IT ALL.

Unable to update to 9.4.2.14 from 9.4.2.11.1

I am currently on 9.4.2.11.1 because that fixed my problem with rebooting. but now i am getting major battery drainage. I wanted to update to 9.4.2.15 but i cant do the OTA so i thought i would manually install 9.4.2.14 and then let the OTA update me to 9.4.2.15. I downloaded the US version and unzipped it and put that folder to the root of my SD card and when that didnt work i put it on my Internal memeory. Am i missing something? I have both the zip and the unzipped folder on the root of my drives and nothing.... Can someone shed some light on this? I am not rooted. I have rebooted multiple times and nothing. I dont see anything on the settings bar for update.
Get the firmware here :
http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=20&s=16&m=Eee+Pad+Transformer+Prime+TF201&os=32
Unzip the file, inside there's another file.
Rename this 2nd zip file to EP201_SDUPDATE.zip
Put it in the root of an external microSD card.
Put the microSD card into prime.
Boot or reboot the prime. As soon as you see the first boot screen press "Volume down". Once you see the text on the top left, press "Volume UP" once.
Wait for the process to complete, you're now with the new firmware !
No need for root
I see what happened. I'm on a mac and when i unzipped the original zip file it saw another zip file so it unzipped them both. Thanks alot for your help!

[Q] JB install not located in Recovery

Hello. Apologies for the Noobie question. I am a NOOB.
Am trying to run OTA leaked update on my Droid Razr. I have gone through all the steps of SPC-Hicks09 guide to installation without a hitch, until it comes to step 15:
15. Now in stock recovery, select "install update from external sdcard."
When I get to here, Android System Recovery (3d) menu comes up, and I get this option instead: Apply update from Ext Storage.
Then Chose package to install:/Sdcard, and I highlight "Blur Version...."
But instead of installing, then it drills down to another menu, "Choose package to install"...through all the folders (down to Google and Android)
without any update bat or action happening.
Anyone have a suggestion on where I have gone wrong?
[note 1: Why don't I get asked "apply update from SD Card"?]
[note 2: When I connect my phone to PC as a media device, I show Internal Storage and SD Card; Blur Version 6.16.211 which I downloaded directly from the link, is showing up as a folder (not a zip)
Thanks! Bienbien
never mind
With a good file browser, found zip file and moved it to sdcard-ext...and deleted the unzipped folder. Updated fine.
