home screen wont auto rotate? - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have it set to auto rotate in the settings and all my apps rotate but the home screen wont? its just stuck in landscape... i was on a version of TNT and it was not working so i thought maybe a fresh start would help and just flashed vegan tab 5.1 and i have the same issue? the rotate is working within the apps i open so i know its not a hardware issue... anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

What home launcher are you using? I have Launcher Pro Plus and there's an option in preferences to rotate the home screen. Could this be your issue?

I have tried both launcher pro and stock launcher and I know what option you are talking about though and have tried it both on and off and nothing works...

today i went home for lunch and tried some other ways to fix this and came up with nothing... i tried going into titanium and wiping data for the launcher and that didnt work, then i tried installing launcher pro and going that rought and that didnt work... i still cant rotate the home screen... but i can still rotate no problem in any app i open... ?

i dont think its a ROM issue... i have the same setup on my tablet as my wife and for some reason mine works fine but for her i cant get the rotate to work on the homescreen... and like i said earlier, i have tried the auto rotate option on and off and it wont fix it. rotate works fine within an app, just not the home screen. the problem started when she was on a TNT ROM and so i wiped everything and installed Vegan and same problem is there... not sure what it can be since the rotate works fine for the apps?

Unfortunately, I am having the exact same problem. Any application will rotate just fine, but when I am outside of any application, the display is only in landscape format. I too have tried the system display settings and made sure it is set to auto rotate.
I am using the latest VegaN build.
If you find anythign, please share. Thanks

I am having the same problem too. Apps can rotate, but home screen stuck in landscape. Wiped data and wipe cache does not help.

I'm just a complete novice and I don't really understand what I'm saying (and I don't even have my G tab yet) but I've read of so many weird problems being fixed by partioning the internal SD card that I thought I'd mention it.

Is the stock home screen designed to rotate? I updated to 3588 when I first got mine and my home screen won't rotate anymore. I swear it was rotating on the previous version. I am using classic home nothing insaled, did a factory reset on 1.1.3588.
Edit: apps andsettings page rotate normally

There were two auto rotate options... One in settings, and one in launcher preferences... Did you check both?

How do you get to launcher preferences? Again, I am using fully stock TnT.

For launcher pro it's menu, preferences... Then behavior I think....

I think my gtab had some stuffinstalled out of the box, maybe it was a returned item. First it had angry birds and kindle, I thoughtthese were just included or something. Maybeit had a launcher too. I did a fctoryreset after I updated to prep for custom roms, so whatever was there is gone now. I just thought it was stock before. Guess not.
So what I am getting at is, do the stock viewsonic TnT home screens do rotate?

Sorry, I missed the word "stock" before TnT in your post. Sorry if I confused the situation.
I'm not sure if it rotates or not. My gtab was powered on for exactly 3 minutes before I rooted it and flashed vegan....

Also having this issue where the apps and settings rotate but the home screen does not. Running Vegan 5.1 Beta with the default launcher.

anxiously.
I'm waiting for a good answer. Same prob.

Stock home screen does NOT autorotate.

So vegan 5.1 not suppose to auto rotate home page?? That doesnt sound right

Home Screen Won't Rotate
Chime in to say my stock TNT does the same thing. It's stuck in Landscape but the apps rotate just fine.

No rotating to landscape mode

When ever I turn my phone horizontally while on the homescreens it doesn't turn into landscape mode (I already made sure that in settings-display the "auto-rotate screen" option is marked). The weird thing is that is does auto-rotate if I'm not on the home screens (say, if I'm on the web, or checking out a photo, or on the market, etc).
Any thoughts?
double post
The launcher is not compatible with landscape, would be my first thought. Try a different launcher (Go Launcher rotates, if set to do so in its own preferences).
Silly me. I had selected the option on the SGS2's settings but not on the launcher. Thanks! Everything is working now.

Are you using TouchWiz? I don't use it myself, and I'm just curious for future reference.

[Q] Screen and Rotation Problem/Advice!

Hi, i was using the official Ginger 2.3.4 from Motorola with motoblur and one of the things i liked about it is that the screen never rotate on desktop or the app drawer but the apps and games do.
So i was wondering if anyone knows a way to do this with any of the custom roms out there? currently im using Aura 1.2.2.2 with faux133 kernel and baseband .36, right now all i can do is use a rotation app that would disable the rotation with a click but thats not what i want, i want only the apps and games be able to rotate by them-self but the app drawer and the desktop not.
Also I'd like to know if there is a fix available out there for the rain drop or something what is called the bug, that if u keep your screen pressed for more than 10 -15 secs it will disable the touch until u release ur finger and press it again. I know i read somewhere something about it but now i cant find any info on how to fix this cause i like to play emulators a lot and its a pain for them as u can imagine.
You can use tasker for auto rotation on several apps

Blank home screen issue

Sometimes when I go to the stock launcher, I just get my wallpaper.
The screen is totally blank and I cannot access my home screen or the app launcher.
Has this happened to anyone else?
I have two Archos Android tablets that do that regularly. They do recover after some 10s of seconds. The Archos tablets are rather weak in the CPU department, which I think causes their hanging lags getting back to the home screen. My Prime never does that. Do you have some odd non-default settings or possibly some big nasty animated wallpaper? Could you have some application running in the background hogging a lot of resources?
I'd be tempted to perform a factory reset and reinstall all my apps. I basically did that when I upgraded from my original Transformer to my Prime. Amazon and the Android Marketplace had all my stuff, so it was not such a big deal.
Bye.

This was happening to me when I had the ASUS Task Manager widget running. I'd swipe to the screen that had it running and Launcher would crash. Then all home screens would go blank and I'd need to force close the Launcher to get things back to normal.
I removed the Task Manager widget, and mine hasn't done it since. So, if you have that widget running, you might try getting rid of it.

[Q] Lockscreen Trouble - Simple Touch Unlocks

Hello,
I'm running the regular stock system (unrooted for the moment) and I'm having a small problem with my lockscreen (which is currently set to 'Productivity', but the issue persists across others. Any touch to the screen will unlock the phone and bring me to my homescreen, anywhere on the screen regardless of whether I hit an app or not. Furthermore, I can't open up the apps in the drawer with a drag as you are supposed to be able to do.
I got the phone a few days ago and everything worked fine until some point yesterday. I'm not sure if an app is interfereing with it and I've done the basic steps of rebooting, changing lock screens, adding a password etc. I'm wondering if anyone else has run into this problem before and if they have a way to fix it?
(Also, I'm running Apex Launcher Pro, but I tried just running Sense again and the problem persists)

Home Screen and App Drawer Auto Rotate?

Dies anyone know of there is a native option to have the home screens and App drawer rotate (to landscape). I checked the auto rotate option in settings but home screens and App drawer are fixed in portrait mode (settings screen and others do rotate). I had this feature on my g2 and wondering if they removed it. Thanks
I would also like to know if there is a way to get the launcher to rotate. I normally use Nova Launcher but I'm kind of fond of the LG G3's launcher minus this little issue. I'm rooted and have tried various options with G3 Tweaksbox and Gravitybox to no avail, also unlocked the hidden Home menu and found a couple of promising options, but nothing seems to apply. I supposed a rotation app might work, but I'd prefer not to run one.

Ok, I figured it out by accident. You need to enable hidden launcher settings using G3 Tweaksbox. Then go into the hidden settings and do the following:
(note these are both towards the end of the options)
UNCHECK the following "FEATURE_USE_PORTAIT_ONLY"
CHECK the following "FEATURE_USE_SYSTEM_ORIENTATION_CHANGE"
There are others that seem to be related to auto rotation, but I made the above changes and everything seems to be working fine except the stock 5x2 weather widget w time which won't load when rotating the screen to landscape. All others seem fine.
Sweet, thanks for posting this. I had the first one unchecked but hadn't done anything to the second one. Now, I'm rotating how I choose!

At first i was using save options in the 3rd tab but that did not nothing accept reset my homescreens so dont do that. All you have to do is make your changes and hit the home button.
Btw unrelated but figure I'd share. After swearing I'd stay with the stock launcher I moved to nova prime. The auto rotate feature is an option plus the smoothness cant be matched by stock. I also replicated everything to match what i had on the stock launcher. Oh and the replicated version of the 5x2 weather widget i mentioned rotates fine with nova.

Yep, reset my homescreen setup. Ouch!!!!
I'll stick to stock. I don't the stock widget. I use Weatherbug Elite, since Blackberry Storm days....
I don't have any lag. I froze almost everything. I'm good. Just like the rotate because I use the phone horizontally in the car.
Thanks

Did you follow any specific list to freeze? I froze a ton but feel theres more. Just being lazy and dont want deal with the consequences if i freeze something i shouldn't.
Noob Question
Noob question but after turning the hidden settings on in Tweaksbox, I cant find the hidden settings!
Where are the hidden settings?
I was excited because I really want the homescreen to be able to rotate to landscape, but I can't seem to find the hidden settings you talk of. Are they still in the G3 Tweaksbox app or somewhere else? When I check the "Enable LG launchers hidden settings" I get the checkbox, but nothing else happens, even after I reboot. What am I missing?
I'm on a LG G2 with the CloudyG3 port installed

for the g 3 at least it's located under the home screen settings on the settings at the bottom.
The two settings mentioned worked perfectly for me. Many thanks, rotation locker also worked but this is better since it sticks each boot.
Is there a guide anywhere that details what each of the settings in this hidden menu does?

I have searched but haven't been able to find anything. If anyone knows, I'd be very interested in this also.
My G3 was doing this yesterday. Put it on safe mode and auto rotate started working again. Restarted the phone and now it works fine. Go figure. Software bug.
It's been about ten minutes and so far so good. I have a Sprint G3.
