[Q] Get GPS Replaced By Samsung - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I bought my vibrant in 04/09/2010 from an ebay store without any contract and it was unlcoked.
I would like to get my GPS fixed by either samsung or T-Mobile.
I already emailed the ebay store I bought it from and they said I could send the phone to samsung to get it fixed.
1. Do I have a warranty? Who is responsible for my phone right now? samsung or t-mobile?
2. What is the official rom version right now? KA5? where can I get a complete stock version of this rom, not deodexed, without root, somthing that I can send to the samsung service?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you very much

The T-Mobile Vibrant officially came out on 07/15/10, you got it in April?

I'm pretty sure he's using the international date standard: dd/mm/yy, as opposed to the american version: mm/dd/yy.

AFAIK, neither samsung nor t-mobile actually fixed the GPS issues.
the closest thing we have to a fix is the JI6 firmware update (which managed to help only *some* phones) and the hardware mod that's a sticky on the general forums.
technically, you could go ahead and see if samsung could help you out but your warranty is voided if your phone is used outside of the US (so don't let them know that you have if you're not in the US)
i'm not sure, but i think the official stock rom out there right now is KA7.
if you're looking for a stock rom, check out the android dev section of the vibrant forums.

1. I'm using the international date format because i'm not from USA. The warranty is voided if i'm using the phone not in USA in a GSM network? can you show me on samsung's site where it is written?
In any case I have someone going to the USA in a couple of days so he can drop it at samsung's service and they don't have to know.
2. I saw in one of the forums, that any galaxy s phone (or one of the US variants) made after october had a hardware fix for the GPS, and I even saw people writing that T-Mobile replaced their phone because of the GPS problem. Can someone confirm this?
Thanks again for the help

If you are a T-mobile USA customer (which I am). I called Tmobile. And they are sending me a refurbished SAmsung Vibrant no questions asked because I told them I could not get a GPS lock and that my phone was made in August 2010 (before the Oct 2010 silent fix).
It's weird. Because I originally had a 06/2010 Vibrant and GPS worked flawlessly. Never had any issues. I sold it in December. I repurchased another Vibrant (made in 08/2010) and that Vibrant had major GPS issues.
Either way, Tmobile is sending me another Vibrant. Took a 5 minute phone call. You have to be a Tmobile customer.

Yeah call t-mobile that's what I'm doing couldn't get home in the snow storm because it would lock then throw me somewhere else
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk

I'm not a T-Mobile customer, i'm not from USA.
Do you think that T-Mobile will help me anyway?
Can someone confirm that the official rom is KA7 and not KA5 or KA6?

TMobile will not help you. You will have to try Samsung directly. Official ROM is KA6.

Samsung and T-Mobile never made any hardware changes to the GPS, despite some people on xda falsely claiming that Vibrants produced on/after Nov 2010 have new GPS hardware.
If you wan't to fix your GPS do the following steps.
1) Odin back to JFD
2) Completely wipe your phone. Format and do a factory reset by going to dialer then dial in *2767*3855#. This will format your phone and do a factory reset, so you will lose all data
3) Use kies mini to update to official KA6.
4) Then just for fun do one more format and factory reset by dialing
*2767*3855#
5) Now with your fresh stock phone, try the gps. Download GPS test from market and see how many sats it sees and locks onto. Chances are it will lock onto zero. It is ok, go back to Google Maps and leave it open for like 15 mins. Let the GPS keep searching. Eventually it will see sats and lock on. Go back to GPS test now you should see the GPS locking onto several sats. Your accuracy should be within 17-50ft, which is the best you can get with this piece of sh*t GPS.
6) After doing all the steps above, you can also optionally download "gps restore" from market, and run that while standing outside.
6) DONT MESS AROUND WITH LBS MODE, no matter what people here say.

Samsung DIVE unable to be set up?>

I see how Samsung DIVE should be able to be set up, but I can't seem to find the ability to add it on the Galaxy S II AT&T, does anyone know of a workaround to add such, or is it hopeless and AT&T just hates any free service provided by a manufacturer?
I am trying to do the same.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!
The Only thing I can seem to tell so far is it seems to be nowhere in the actual firmware. Clearly it is in the pure Galaxy S II Firmware and Possibly Sprints (don't have access to one to check) which means custom roms could have it readded if we get a spliced together or purer International ROM.
Stupid AT&T. I guess I will have to return this phone and get international version of the SGSII. International version looks better anyways.

I wouldn't do that myself, I'll just install a ROM. This way I can still theoretically have my warranty. When you think about it, a $8 USB jig and my own roms is a great option for the device to ensure that I can keep a functional warranty on my device (since the jig resets the counter apparently and makes the unit think there hasn't been a flash of unofficial firmware)

[Q] Problems updating (to 4.3) an AT&T Note II, but on tMobile

Hi. I haven't been able to find anything on this topic. I have an N7105 Galaxy Note II that I bought from an AT&T customer. The only problem is that I am using it on TMobile. (It is officially unlocked from AT&T, etc.) The problem now comes in upgrading to 4.3. TMobile uses Kies, but Kies only wants to upgrade me to 4.1.2, which I am already on (build JZO54K.1317UCAMH3). AT&T only updates OTA. When I check for OTA update it says it is checking AT&T's servers, but I am not so sure as it never finds anything. I think it is checking TMobile servers which aren't set up for OTA or don't recognize my phone type.
Also, I went into Best Buy to the Samsung rep, and they flashed my phone with their program and put a wonderful new version of 4.1.2 over my old one (nothing changed).
I am looking for solutions that will work for my phone to get 4.3, where I can get Galaxy Gear support, the photosphere camera, spen, etc.
My first question is, if I can find a TMOBILE Rom, will it work on my AT&T Note II (similar phone, but not the same? I have the N7105). (I would like TMobile goodies on there instead of AT&T. Any custom ROMs support that?)
Second, does the AT&T build (if I can find one) work with Gear well and does the photosphere camera work well? The Samsung rep said AT&T did not work with gear well presently on Note II and I read somewhere else where the camera was not working.
Any custom ROMS I should look at that would work on my phone and get me GEAR, SPEN, PHOTOSPHERE etc? I can't seem to find that.
Any suggestions or directions I should look would well be appreciated. Thank you!

N7105 "officially unlocked" by AT&T? LOL, funny...you SURE its a 7105? If it is, then you still have to wait, as they havent released 4.3 for North America yet as far as i know...well they did but then pulled it right away.
if you want all that extra samsung stuff to work you need to go with a touchwiz based 4.3 custom rom. It hasnt been released yet,so ergo, its not available for developers to make a custom rom out of it (stateside anyway)
sounds like keis is working fine, bc the 7105 is the UNLOCKED LTE North American version VERSION, the 7100 is the international version without LTE, and they are diffrent.
and you actually WANT T-MOBILE bloat ware? put this in the googler " Tmobile applications apk. good luck with that bc no one ever want to bundle "branded APKs" but then you say "instead of AT&Ts, are you implying that its already on there? and you went to Best Buy? they put it on a machine?
your best bet is to just sell that thing and buy a note 3 outright, doesnt sound like you need try and flash/root stuff.

Thanks. I was just so tired of using an AT&T phone on TMobile, I thought some of the related programs might be nice, but I see your point. They do have the upgrade for AT&T now, but I am told it is sucking battery life something fierce. Per your suggestion, I am looking for a good Note 3. Thanks!

Can't make outgoing calls

Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone can help me out. I can receive calls, but can't make them. I've tried both wifi and cellular.
The weird thing is I called T-mobile for help and they were saying based on the IMEI I wasn't using a T-mo version and that I should get it unlocked. But it's definitely a T-mobile phone and it was working perfectly fine until today. If it was locked to some other carrier, it wouldn't have been working all this time, right?
Thanks for any help.
Where did you get your Galaxy Note 8? Did you get it from T-Mobile?
If you got it from somewhere like Ebay, then that device maybe flashed for T-Mobile, but actually came from another carrier. Check XDA on how to fix (flash) your device's cellular radio firmware to fully work with T-Mobile (that is if the IMIE number is not locked, due to previous owner's fault, like not fully paying for the Note 8, theft, etc).
If you got this device from T-Mobile, then do a manufacture warranty exchange with T-Mobile. You can request this over a phone call to T-Mobile support. Then they will send the replacement device to a T-Mobile store near you for you to do the exchange.
Always better to get your device from a trustworthy place, like your carrier's store/website/customer support phone call.
When getting a "smartphone" device from places like Ebay, you need to ask yourself why are they doing this. Why are they getting rid of a flagship like the Galaxy Note 8 so early on? If I was going for another flagship right now I would still keep the Note 8 for its unique features. So I would be suspicious of somebody giving rid of this device (Note 8) so early on. Why are they selling it for such low price right now? These are my thoughts on someone selling Note 8 right now (at this point in time) for low price: Good likelihood they messed it up by trying to root/flash ROM/flash carrier modem radio firmware, they don't want to fully pay the device off (so the device is no use to them), or they stolen the device.
Human beings are not dishonest all the time, but it does beg these questions to be asked and answered. Be so very careful in trusting people like this. Personally I wouldn't trust someone in this situation, but that is just me. Remember that they are not doing this because they are amateurs. They are very good in winning your trust.
Just saying!

Thanks for the reply. I bought it from someone on Swappa. He sent me the receipt with it. It was purchased from Samsung.com. The box it came in had the T-mobile logo and everything so it's weird that the IMEI isn't registered with them.
To update my situation, I tried starting in safe mode and was able to make calls so I'm told it's a third party app causing the problem. Not sure which it is since I haven't installed anything new in a while.
First do a "Factory data reset". See if that gets rid of the problem. Hopefully that would get rid the the app that is causing the issue. I just remembered that substratum (including sungstratum - Samsung addon) did weird things like this to my Galaxy Note 8. I had to do a "Factory data reset". Then install all the apps one by one, since both Google and Samsung backups had substratum within it. So I couldn't use either backups. For that reason I stay away from substratum stuff.
It is not abnormal for Samsung direct bought devices to have IMIE number not registered with carrier. Usually not a problem with T-Mobile.
If problem still exists then have the seller contact Samsung to let them know that he gave the device to you. He can say it was a gift to you. Remember to tell him to give your information to Samsung. Once that is done, then you can can get support from Samsung.
Again, if you got the device from T-Mobile this problem would have been solved so much easier and quicker. Next time think about getting the device directly from the carrier.

bricked after ATT update

I was out of town and ignoring the notification to install an att update. I was in and out of wifi at my hotel and I think it downloaded about 9% of the official update. When I got home and under reliable wifi I decided to do the update. When I came back to the phone about 10 min later i had a blue screen with the message System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone please take to nearest AT&T store. I called att they conference called with Samsung and sent me to ubreakifix to look at it. They were able to get in download mode and the knox wasn't tripped but it only said Official Samsung in one of the 2 places the tech said it should (i think the binary didn't say official Samsung but I only saw it briefly). I have only had this phone for 2 months. It is NOT rooted. It wouldn't go into recovery Any thoughts?

Man, talk about a bad situation. I would try itekimei .com. Buy the unlocked package for $30. He will be able to flash your factory firmware back to the way it was. Granted you can get into recovery and download modes.
I wouldn't turn to At&T for that type of help. Carriers are usually pretty stupid when it comes to stuff like this. At least with my experience with t-mobile for 17 years.
* I should add I recently used itekimei .com for two galaxy s9+'s with success for CDMA carriers, I.E. verizon. But part of that process is flashing back your original firmware, which should be no problem for AT&T and t-mobile. They have access to the actual Samsung tools, they can do just about anything when it comes to flashing firmware. Which in your case, sounds like your best alternative.
I took it to the ubreakifix (authorized Samsung repair) They said they were going to call Samsung, if they gave them the go ahead it will be fixed under warranty, which it should in the first place, or they'd charge me $40 to flash back to factory.

And Itekimei will do it for $30, plus it will be carrier unlocked if you ever needed that. But he does the same process in the end, flashes back your factory firmware. So six one, half a dozen another. But with samsung, I don't think they will leave you carrier unlocked after they reflash your firmware.
But your right, it should be fixed under warranty. If that's an option for you that you want to take, then take it. I don't know how long they will take, the guy at itek takes about an hour to do the process. They have access to the same tools samsung does to flash phones, at least they claimed to me.
Thanks for the info, that will definitely be plan B.

No problem, but yeah that sounds like your solution anyways, is to have someone flash back your firmware. That will solve your problem.
ubreakifix couldn't fix it, they called samsung and they claim I rooted it. I DID NOT ROOT. used the help of iTekIMEI and he tried to flash stock firmware, he was unable to get it going too. Called Samsung directly they want me to send it in for analysis, sounds like they don't believe me either about not rooting.

T-Mobile Galaxy Tab S6

Does anyone here know if the T-Mobile variant has a locked bootloader? And if so, is there any way to unlock it?
I'm wondering the same thing...I'll be going to look at it later today. Also I noticed the wifi model has the phone dialer installed so I'm wondering if the LTE T-Mobile model has phone function with the right sim installed?
I went to the T-Mobile store to look at the tab...They had no idea if the bootloader is locked or not. I'm sure it probably is but haven't seen anything about whether it can be unlocked yet. They also told me that the phone and SMS/MMS might work for a few days until the system detects it is a tablet, then those functions will be disabled. Make no sense to me why we can't have those functions on a tablet here in the US...And why even put the software on the tab if it can't be used? I told them to keep it and I'll get the WiFi tablet and just use the hotspot on my phone when I'm out and about. At least I'll get quicker updates (Maybe because Samsung) and I won't have the tons of their bloatware on the thing.

If you can go into store and view the tablet go into settings and enable developer options by tapping on the build. Then go into developer options and see if there is a switch to unlock the boot loader. I just bought the wifi model from Best Buy and the boot loader can be unlocked. I have already installed TWRP and Magisk. I think maybe the LTE version may require a 7 day wait not sure.

from almost a year back-wondering was your wifi device branded like Tmobile or Verizon? sad to see no continuity in the thread-was hoping for someone to check out the lte device in Tmobile to see if it could be unlocked or if the option was there-not many resources on internet. Does Tmobile even carry this thing anymore? thanks

Unfortunately, I think I'm being held back by the whole 7-day oem-unlock hide thing. And all the ways around it have apparently been patched by samsung. So this time next week, I'll know for sure. As of right now, I believe it can be unlocked, but I don't know for sure.

thank you so much-well I will be receiving my device tomorrow. So let the race begin-ha ha kidding will see and compare. I did not know Samsung has this 7 day wait period (like Xiaomi has a 2 week period). Oh well, time will tell Thanks for keeping me posted and do let me know what you find. I did see a post somewhere on xda for the tab s6 where the poster said he could unlock the carrier device (think it was Tmobile) but he wanted to find out if he could root it. I will find the post (again it was an old one and of course, my response (recently) has not got any response. In fact, like many, he did not follow up with any posts thereafter (several months back).

Hello Arudis I got a used Tmobile variant. But I do not see any OEM unlock option in developer settings (a prerequisite before anything can be done for unlocking b/l). Which software version is yours having? (maybe it is different because you bought directly from Samsung but does not make sense if it is branded Tmobile). Could be that you have an older version of Android-appreciate if you could let me know which software version, CSC etc yours has. I might end up returning mine if there is no progress. Thanks.!
EDIT: Returned it. Great price and condition. Just too bad-did not want to take chances with it. Good luck-seems that you should be able to unlock it per that other post I sent.

Well. I'm struggling w/ it. CSC was TMB btw. This whole ordeal has been a mess of mistakes on my part. If i can't get this unlocked in the next day or 2 then i'll be returning it myself. I'd rather have a weaker tablet w/ root and a custom rom than a great tablet that i have to run stock.
Current software version is T867USQU3BTJ1 / T867UOYN3BTJ1 / T867USQU3BTJ1.
First thing I needed to know was whether or not I could unlock the tablet for other networks and in order to do that, I inserted a sim and logged into the tablet w/ my google account. I think this is where I made my first mistake as I have a sinking suspicion that inserting the sim somehow got rid of my oem unlock toggle. I know I had seen it before I started trying 2 unlock the sim because its always the first thing I do when I get a new device. But between the sim and the unlock process I ended up rebooting too many times and it auto-updated itself to the latest firmware. Since the latest firmware, I haven't seen that toggle at all. When I try to flash twrp w/ Odin, it fails.
@ this point I've decided that I will never buy another samsung device ever. I've had all manner of fun rooting every other device i've ever owned that wasn't a samsung device, however every samsung device has always been a supreme pain in the butt because I can't just do what i want w/ adb and fastboot.

I agree but this has more to do with (if not entirely) to U.S carriers playing games with dual devices for marketing-only here does this go on, where the carriers since time immemorial have blocked calls and texts on tablets (7 and above inches) giving some bs reasons (there was a time they had this tablet "plan" and phone "plans"-those have at least merged at least for Tmobile-otherwise their servers would detect a tablet and switch you automatically to a tablet plan for your 'convenience' and maybe even 'safety' lol)....so as long as they do this, Samsung (even Apple which does the same thing worldwide anyway) have tablets that do not have phone-like functions (Samsung has this call and text pairing with other Samsung phones a.k.a buy two of our devices please AND have two plans (so both Samsung and carriers win)...) on their U.S devices (Samsung at least to their credit have this :"unlocked" cellular variants in rest of the world, Apple does not even have that-yes, I know there is Google talk and all kinds of wifi-based workarounds but that is a different topic.
EDIT-if you compare the older devices like say tab S and tab s2 (the carrier variants and the international variants you will find out that even the speaker arrangements are different. I delved deep into this and found that even the boards were different-the lengths they went to do this to keep the versions distinct is amazing!) folks here on xda etc kept thinking for a while that they could simply flash the international ROMs (never mind the b/l block or hurdles) but the partitions were not even the same let alone the modems, and the actual hardware itself!
So blame the carriers-I do. So I never get these carrier devices (first time I tried my hand at it-no more)
Having to perform a soft boot tonight I noticed an "unlock bootloader command" in the softboot menu along with "cache clear" along with the always present "factory reset". Which I have to perform anyway because network mode locked to 3G only and no option to change it back so it has major conectivity issues. I'm thinking I may try the unlock bootloader command.
P.S. Mine is the tmo version

Out of curiosity which model number is your tmobile tab s6 lte? I have the verizon sm-t867v model which i re-flashed to the tmobile sm-t867u model using modified Odin 3.14. Unfortunately the bootloader remained locked down with no way to unlock it. Also what is this softboot menu your speaking of? I know samsung like the back of my hand and I've never heard of a softboot menu. Curious if this is something new im not aware of since I've been stuck with verizon brands the last 3 samsung devices I've owned...
Yes and Yes!
Can someone clarify something on the Tmobile Variant of the Tab S6?
This T867U definitely comes with the HARDWARE to text because i got it to work but it stopped.
So could this just be a matter of getting it 'Carrier Unlocked" so TMO cant decide what we do with our tab s6 since its payed for???
Make calls and send messages from your Galaxy tablet
With Call & text on other devices, you can receive calls and send messages on your Galaxy tablet that is logged in to the same Samsung account as your phone.

I have the same problem, I bought the device from eBay and now in Egypt, the device is locked to the T-Mobile network, and I don't know a way to unlock it. I cannot contact the seller to ask him about the T-Mobile subscription details, and after communicating with T-Mobile, they did not reply
