Honeycomb for EMMC ***IMAGES!*** - Nook Color Android Development

What we have here is a set of images to flash to your Nook and run Honeycomb on your internal storage. (Currently based on Deeper_Blue's v02) The method for installing is the same as for Nookie Froyo on EMMC (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=926749)
To Install HC to your Nook Color flash CWR to your sd card (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922870)
Copy the two image files to the sd card.
Boot to CWR and ADB Shell into your NC.
Run the following commands to flash Honeycomb:
mount data
mount sdcard
rm /data/* -r
dd if=/sdcard/hcboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1
dd if=/sdcard/hcsystem.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5
reboot
ATTENTION! Do not use CWR to format your SD card, also remove your SD card after installation so it will boot to HC and not CWR!
I would like to thank MattJ951 for his work with Samuelhauf on getting the uRamdisk working to boot, and Deeper_blue for porting honeycomb to the Nook Color. (If i have forgotten anyone PM me and I will give credit!)

Woo! Nice!

Once again, you forget to mention not to use sdcard format on the NC after having installed this.. your going to have black screen complaints..

Nothing should get formatted as these are dd images.... run the commands above and everyone should be fine..

AMAZING! worked Perfectly!!!!!! WOW! (I had to take samuelhalff's advice and removed the sdcard just in case on boot) everything is working perfectly! thank you very much for your work!

anyone notice any speed increase than say a class 6 sd card?

same question here!

HC v3, eMMC 1100 kernel, launcherpro.
Smooth.
Tried converting data and cache to ext4. No go. Seems deeperblue hasn't added ext4 support to his kernel yet..
By the way, no problem with v3.
You must have missed something while copying system. Maybe your partition was too small..

Did you not have a rotation problem (i.e. it never rotated to the side you were using, always one past) with v03?

You don't use dd images with CWR (actually you might be able to, but i prefer my way).
You download a nookie froyo sd image (or just use your honeycomb one and add the two images to the sd partition of it (You can adb push them or just use your computer to copy them).
Then open up a terminal emulator (i believe there is one in dev tools) and type these commands:
dd if=/sdcard/hcboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p1
dd if=/sdcard/hcsystem.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5
Also as Sam said
DO NOT FORMAT YOUR SD CARD FROM INSIDE THE NOOK COLOR please update the OP saying this

Most excellent! I will be giving this a try shortly (at work now but RDC home to start the download!)
Question: Any plans to "update" to deeper-blue's V03 image? I know it's a "preview" right now so perhaps you are waiting for a more stable release???
Thanks!

V3 is flawless here. Check you don't get: nit enough space error, while copying system..
Ill probably make a flashable version of v4..

I restored my nook to Stock 1.01 yesterday after a random catastrophic failure with my previously stable 1.01 AN setup; so, I'm ready to try anything.
The choices are HC v3, Froyo 0.6.6, or the 1.1 AN setup.
1) How difficult would it be to update these emmc HC images to v3?
2) Which of the three options is the most stable for the following?
--ADW Launcher
--Clockwork Mod / ROM Manager
--HQ Youtube app
--Market (AppBrain as well)
--Gmail w/calendar sync (I use the Pure Grid Calendar app)
--Xscope browser / Dolphin HD
--Aldiko 2.0
--Live Wallpapers
--Scrollable widgets
--Rockplayer
--Perfect Viewer (for comics)
--WidgetLocker
--Tapatalk
--Su/Superuser apps (Root Explorerer, Terminal, Wireless adb, etc)
--TV Shows Stream
--Angry Birds (all versions)
3) Which capabilities does HC v3 still lack?
4) Do any of these options have a global copy/paste capability?
5) Do any of them have working Flash 10.1 (for apps like TV Shows Stream, or Droid Stremer Pro)?

Eclair is by the most stable but lacking flash. Froyo supports flash but has some issues with talpatalk (at least for me). Honeycomb is more of a PoC and you will get a lot of crashes on some apps.

That's about right. Though I haven't had any trouble with Froyo and Tapatalk (XDA does crash, on the other hand).
HC v3 on eMMC probably is my favourite experience so far with the NC. Although, I'm most certainly not objective, as HC is very new, compared to our old Froyo buddy..
If I had to choose, taking under account your criterions, I would go with Froyo. Perfect blend of stability and performance.. As Matt said, HC is very nice, but still isn't stable enough for the average user.. HC, as of right now, should only be installed for the thrill of it, or to start dev'ing around..
Eclair? Well, it's ok. But without flash, it can't possibly be an option. You might as well buy an iPad (sarcasm)..
PS: v4? Pretty soon, I guess...

How to Pick your Nook Color Operating System and Install Options
And then for those who need a helping hand for the individual install flavors, check out the guides I wrote:

For anyone looking to install CyanogenMod 7 with Dalingrin's overclocking and Bluetooth on your Nook Color (via SD card) I just wrote a little guide, particular good for newbies or people having trouble:

And if you want to run Froyo off SD with the Dalingrin OC kernel and all the apps/configurations you'd need to really start off right. It refers out to the various other documents and links you'll need, like the NookDev SD card creation doc, their tips and tricks, the Dalingrin OC kernel thread, and adds a list of other changes/apps most users might want to have. I wrote it because if you're like me and don't do this on a regular basis you benefit from a bit of hand holding, and having all the steps arranged in order across the various disparate guides. I just discovered Nook was hackable today and have been reading all over, but honestly, I don't know how to do it (bear in mind, it took me four weeks of reading before flashing my phone), AND...
I don't know what the Nook "looks like" after you do it. Is it a Nook with more features (i.e., still a reader, but more)? Is it a tablet computer and not reader-centric any more? Is it one thing if run from the card and still Nook if run without the card? What?
And guide writer, whoever you turn out to be, you will have more friends than you know what to do with.

DISCLAIMER: this is based on my limited understanding as a noob. It may be missing in some details, but as "a general idea", it should be fine.
I cant give you an efficient walkthrough of the "how-to"s but I'll give an overview so you can know what your dealing with. The "how-to"s are already existing all over xda, theyre just intimidating when you dont know what they mean and they appear like an intermingled mess.
As I see it there are basically three different paths for hacking your Nook. First you have to decide which one you want to try, narrow it down to a particular ROM or build, then use that particular "how-to". Then its not so bad.
1. Root the original B&N software, keeping the e-reader centric OS in tact,
adding the ability to install other android features such as the Android
Market (i.e all sorts of apps like youtube, etc) as well as the ability to
overclock your processor (speed up the device). All the threads with "Auto-
nooter" in the title refer to this method.
2. Run a bootable version of android via an SD card. This puts a full
version of Android OS like Froyo (2.2) or Honycomb (3.0) on an SD card
which you can then put in the Nook. Turn it on and you boot into a full
Android experience. You will not have the B&N e-reader software but you can
install the Nook app from the market and sync your B&N purchases (its not
as fancy, but it gets the job done). This is one of the easier methods and it is
also nice to be able to take the SD card out anytime and boot into your
original device untouched. All the threads with "Bootable, SD card, SD
bootable, etc" refer to this.
3. The third method is EMMC. This, like the second method, replaces the B&N e-
reader software, but the difference is it actually installs an Android system
onto the Nooks internal hardware instead of running off an SD card. For this
you use ClockworkMod and the process isnt that intimidating once you
actually get started and just follow the instructions. (took me two weeks to
face it. once i did it was fairly straight forward).
In my opinion each has its pros and cons, but these are mostly due to my personal preferences. I dont have so much know-how so firstly I want things to be retard proof "one-click" simple. Others may not have this criteria.
I personally like bootable SDs but for me the only real draw back is that the ROM i prefer the most is not available as a bootable SD (at least not yet... ) (mad-murdock has done a great job http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002000)
If you want me to point you in any particular direction (a how-to or a ROM, etc) based on my limited experience as a noob, just PM me. I'll write back according to what I may have learned. Just dont bother asking about the first method, it seemed to complicated to get the market working so I never tried it.

Booting into CWR from a running ROM (not bootable SD card)
This seems as a place as any to ask this question, I can not get my Nook, running CM7 stable with Dalingrens 4/13a OC kernel, to go into Recovery from ROM manager. I have RM installed, 3.0.1.0 and when I hold the power button down and select "Reboot" into Recovery ---- it reboots and comes right back to the ROM. Now on another site someone claims their Nook will boot right into Recovery no problem. Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated.
Ronin
P.S. I have a bootable SD set aside to flash, but it is a pain vs just going str8 to CWR without switching SD cards.
http://db.tt/oFLnqic
Could the OP maybe change the title a bit and add some common issues so far that can be fixed?
I can dig up how to do them, but the things I'm talking about are:
wifi:
- if you've ever touched airplane mode, edit the sql file
- if you're running the latest kernel, try to "forget" your networks, then try again
- enable ad-hoc
app won't work:
- boot into CWR, fix permissions
- set proper wallpapers
- just because it comes in zip format doesn't mean to use CWR!
system tweaks:
- getting hulu to work
- custom boot animation
- flashing new kernels
There just seems to be a lot of things that need to be seen by others that cannot unless they read every thread (most don't, resulting in a lot of multiple posts).

you da bomb, ty. this should be the first thing any new owner walking into these forums reads.
hey quinxy. Can you update your amazing guide to reflect that new nooks should have their partitions redone to the old fashion way to ensure successful rom loading without an sd card?
Remove the Good Housekeeping sample cookbook without root!
First, follow the instructions below to make a bootable ClockworkMod SD card :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=987735
After that's done, copy the file below to the root directory of the same SD card. DO NOT UNZIP! Allow the Nook to boot into CWM and install the zip from the SD card. Once it's done, power off the Nook, remove the SD card, and boot normally. Voila! No more annoying cookbook sample that was previously un-deletable without root! Enjoy!
Fixing SD card format problems after using image burn or creating a bootable SD
I get this question all the time in the threads for bootable SD cards.
"When i put my bootable 8 gb SD card in my PC it shows only 142mb of space even after I format it. HELP!!"
If you use image burn to create a bootable SD card and then later you want to clean the card off and reformat it read this.
Use the program SDFormat v3 and make sure to click options : Format size adjustment : ON . This has worked for me when a nook image SD or partition was gooked up and I needed to clean the card and fresh format it. Also, use an external card reader/writer. Doing image burn or format on the PC's built-in SD card slot usually does not work well.
In SDFormatter under the Format Options dropdown menu is a second menu called “format size adjustment” that asks if you want to try to increase the amount of space on your SD card or not. Turning this option on will allow you to use the maximum space possible on your SD card. Once you have made your selection, click OK.."
Using SDformatter with Format size adjustment : ON will ignor any partitions like your 140mb boot partitions and create one contiguous Fat32 partition using all of your SD card. If you don't do it that way, your 16gb SD card will look like a 140mb SD card when you format it after you have put a boot image on it
See this link for more details and to download the SD Format software for Windows.

Can the OP update the first page please?! It's helpful, but there's been many advances since February...
Manual Neuter
I just purchased a nook color, and it came with 1.2 installed. While Nueter, Auto-nueter and Super-nueter all appear to have been good solutions, I too concur that the OP should be updated. Manual-nueter seems to be the rooting direction I'm headed in.
Quinxy site is down
I just got my Nook. So far, after browsing many threads, I can't even find out where to start from. Looks like quinxy had written some instructions for noobs but his site is down, so I can't read those. Any other places I can look on XDA for answers? I'm specifically interested in using CM7 but need to root first I guess... Any help would be appreciated.

CM7 is a custom ROM that is already rooted. You have that option or rooting the stock ROM which will allow you to keep the NC features but add the Android Market. You don't do both. If you decide you want to go with CM7 you can either replace the internal stock ROM with CM7 or you can put CM7 on an SD card and boot from it when you wish. One caveat with the last option is constantly removing and replacing the SD card may ultimately trash the SD reader slot on your Nook.
You need to make decisions before you starting researching how to do it.

One more thing to look into, you probably have a newer Nook (with the blue dot box) if you want to go eMMC with cm7,then a repartition of the internal partitions is required. I had an older one from this March and never had to do it. But I most definitely recommend eMMC, you can even dualboot with fattires new uboot. The newer nightlies (currently stuck @177) even have OC built-in.

Auto-Nooter 3.0.0 (1.1 only)

*ALL THE USUAL DISCLAIMERS AND WARNINGS*
*THIS IS FOR VERSION 1.1 ONLY, DON’T TRY ON 1.0.0 OR 1.0.1*
Credit goes to: GabrialDestruir for the original auto-nooter, GLa’DOS for the boot animation, pokey9000 for nooter, Mistar Muffin for Market and GTalk Fix, clockworx for the “non-ugly” patch that is used to get androidID, mastapsi for testing and coding of the original auto-nooter, lewellyn for coding, [mbm] for ABI Fix, Hotaru for the Gingerbread keyboard, rpollard00 for DroidX keyboard with bigger font, bpk for Soft Keys, Ben74 for NookColor Tools which enables Non Market Installs and re-enable of ADB , Freenode's #nookcolor chat for code checking. A special thanks to all developers out there, without all of you this community would not be as great as it is.
Please Note: If you are the developer of an app that is included in this work, and would like me to remove it, feel free to contact me.
*I am copying the following step from the original auto-nooter, because they are tried and true, and people are already familiar with seeing them*
What it does:
Installs su and Superuser.apk
Installs Busybox with whoami
Installs Softkeys 3.0.6
Installs NookColor Tools (To Enable Non-Market Installs, and re-enable ADB)
Installs Calendar and Calculator.
Installs Android Market, Gmail, Youtube
Installs Gingerbread Keyboard
Enable ADB
Enable Multi-touch for Android Apps
Enables Live Wallpapers
Enables Android Market and Gmail.
App Auto Install (Open up NooterFiles from sdcard drop in /data/app)
Known Problems:
With the version 1.1 update, ADB will not stay active after a reboot or unplug of the cable. To enable each time you want to use it, you will have to go into NookColor Tools /All Settings/Development/USB debugging, you will have to uncheck the box and then recheck it.
How to Use:
Before you begin:
* To update to 1.1 you must do a complete wipe.
* You must update to 1.1 to use Auto-Nooter 3.0.0 Instructions HERE.
1 You must already have a registered NOOKcolor
2 You must have a Gmail/Youtube linked Account. IF you used a Gmail account for B&N Registration you should use that one for this process.
3 You must either have dd (Linux) or WinImage (Windows) software.
4 You must have an external microSDCard reader or this will not work. Do NOT use the NC.
5 You must have enough intelligence to follow instructions.
Let's get started:
1 Download Auto-Nooter from here: MultiUpload or MediaFire
*MD5 FB74865663B8D797A486A85022FAD9B2*
2 Linux: Unzip and use dd if=auto-nooter-3.0.0.img of=/dev/sdcard
2 Windows: Unzip and use WinImage to "Restore Virtual Hard Disk Image" to your SDcard.
2 Windows Alternative: https://launchpad.net/win32-image-writer/+download
3 Unplug your NOOKcolor from computer. (If Plugged in.)
4 Insert AutoNooter SDcard into your NOOKcolor.
5 Plug the USB cable into your computer and your NOOKcolor. (This will boot up the NOOKcolor.)
6 Your NookColor will reboot when it's done.
That was the hard part, now to the simple stuff.
7 Upon boot unlock your screen.
8 At the Android Welcome Screen skip Sign In.
9 Enable Location Services when given the option.
10 Connect to Wifi and launch Youtube from "Extras".
11 Click the Menu button (The one RIGHT of the Up Arrow).
12 Select "My Channel" and Login using your Gmail Account.
13 Exit Youtube and Launch Gmail from "Extras".
14 Sync your Gmail Account and Exit. (If it fails to sync that is fine.)
15 Open up Market and Accept Terms and Service.
If you made it this far your nook should be successfully Rooted. Go Download an App to make sure.
16 Enable Non-Market Installs by running the NookColor Tools App.
17 If your Youtube fails to launch, download the attached EVO HQ, and follow this code in adb
Code:
adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p5 /system
adb uninstall com.google.android.youtube
adb push YouTube.apk /system/app
adb reboot
18 Go to Settings > Device Info > SdCard > UnMount > Format
Complete Wipe:
1 8 Failed Boots > Wipes /system
2 Factory ResetFactory Reset > Wipes /data
*You must do both of these to completely wipe clean your NOOKcolor.*
*Before anyone starts to say that I took this project away from GabrialDestruir, I posted this file in the original post, and sent the OP a PM asking to update the current project. I have yet to hear back, and the post was not updated. My post can be found HERE, dated February 2, 2011. I felt that this would be of a benefit to the community, so I am posting it now. If I am asked at some point to take it down I will do so at that time.*
Forgive my ignorance here, but I thought you were never supposed to use the NC to format your SD card? (last step)
I thought I read somewhere that it messes up something in the emmc?
Hopefully I'm wrong and just paranoid

I have never really seen an explanation as to why you don't format on the NC. I have formated via the NC and the card works fine both in the NC and my PC. When I want to burn an image, I have been able too. Been able to flash other images on it too.
Excellent!
Can you please add an MD5 to the first post?

Formatting the SDcard doesn't touch the onboard storage. It is one of the easier ways to remove bonus partitions to recover the full card. UPDATE: I should clarify this: when running Eclair internally.

Any benefit of this over the 1.1r2 many of us did from autonootered 1.0.1?

You're thinking of Nookie Froyo. The stock B&N system is fine for formatting the card.
I think formatting the SD card is an issue when you use one of the Froyo images and boot from eMMC. When you format the SD card it actually formats the internal boot partition or some such. I remember reading it in one of the threads which led me to only boot the Froyo images from an external card.
I am at 1.1.0. When did 1.1.1 appear & how do I get it?
BTW Is this exactly the same as the interim A-N 2.12.25 modified for 1.1?
k
I'd say it's a typo and should be v1.1?

also interested to know that!
And if there is benefits, can we use the auto nooter?
Just for clarification, in steps 3 & 4 should the NC be turned off? I have never been sure if it matters, but the following statement makes me think that it should be off,
"5 Plug the USB cable into your computer and your NOOKcolor. (This will boot up the NOOKcolor.)"
Thanks,

I guess it should be the same, but I had a couple of games break after up'ing with 1.1_r2. So I wanted to try stock/clean 1.1 and then root...hoping this would bring them back.
help please
I'm having a problem rooting my nook color. 2 weeks ago I was fully rooted and for some reason I forget why? but I went back to stock. recently I updated to the newest Barnes & noble firmware. seeing the recent developments of honeycomb I wanted to root my nook again. so I tried downgrading to firmware before the most recent update and using that version of auto nooter. I followed the instructions exactly to a tee. the problem is my nook wont load the disk image from the sd card. I made sure to fully format the sd card before writing the img with Win32DiskImager. I made sure the nook was completely off then plugging in the usb to into the pc to wake up the nook. but nothing? the nook boots up like normal then says sd card damaged. I've formatted the sd card again and have used the newest nooter for my current 1.1. but nothing. the only difference is the first time I rooted I was at my mothers and used her pc. it was a windows vista 64 bit. my computer is windows seven 64 bit. anyone have any idea's as to why the nook wont load the sd card with the nooter image? I'm using the same sd card I was able to root from before. so I seriously doubt its the sd card. I am properly formatting it before writing the img. I am having no problem writing the img. any help would be appreciated

You probably have a bad burn on the sdcard. Are you writing to the sdcard from the sd card reader or from the nook? Also, if you return to stock, (8 failed boots, then Power+N) You should be on firmware 1.0.0 or 1.0.1. Then root using one of the two original auto nooters, download rom manager from the market and flash the 1.1 pre-rooted firmware.
Thanks buddy, I try doing that. and I don't have an sd card reader so I just put the sd card that I'm going to write into my cell phone. then mount the sd card and write the img to the same storage device that represents the sd card. I'm sure this is the wrong way of doing it but I have gotten root doing the same thing before
Giving this a go now, coming from auto-nootered 1.0.1.

Modified Boot/Installer

Hello again fellow nookie lovers....
DISCLAIMER: If you do not know what the following information does, means, or could result in if not performed correctly, please stop now and go no further. I hold no liability for how you use the following information or if you brick, bork or f&*k up your device.
Now with that, let's continue.....
I decided to post up a modified .IMG file I was able to throw together after getting my hands on a honeycomb preview. The original IMG was provided to me by a good friend (Thanks J and Thanks to the creator of the IMG) and then honeycomb come shortly after.
Using WinImage or a similar program to burn the IMG to a SD card, 1G or larger, will give you a bootable SD allowing you to boot directly into clockwork recovery and install the following:
B&N Original Firmware 1.0.1
Nookie Froyo
Nookie Honeycomb (SN:Overclocks to 1100 default)
Google Apps
Before installing any of the 2 Android systems, remember to visit "Mounts and Storage" and format the Data, System, and Boot partitions. Save Boot for last as it will lock up the nook and require a restart of the device. Once these areas are formatted, continue to install your preferred system of choice. Once that is completed, be sure to install the Google Apps zip to give you the market.
As of this time, the IMG file is approx 978 MB. As I modify I am sure it will grow to require a 2 GB SD.
For my next project, I will be including an image with some of the most important apps a Droid user needs, ie:
ADBWireless
Applanet
BetterTerm
SetCPU
etc
If there are any good apps that I might overlook, hit me up here and let me know.

How does this require only a 1gb sdcard when HC itself requires almost 4? or am I misunderstanding?

Because you use it to flash the emmc zip which isnt very large. The 4gb image is the sdcard version. But this is no different then the flashable CWR.

The HC file is not the Full release. But thus far, other than bluetooth, the3.5 3rd pole and FM radio, everything else works fine for a pre-release. There are a few graffix glitches such as the scaling on the home screens, flickering in the market....
Other than that, HC looks amazing on the NC,
Flashing ROMs with flashable zips in CWM > anything else. Pretty much the safest, easiest method and I wish more people would post up those kinds of ROMs.

[APP][02/26] Nook Color USB Mass Storage utility - Mount any partition to your PC

I've compiled a simple app to be able to easily mount to your PC any given partition.
Feel free to donate if this app is of any use to you. Much appreciated.
Please note that changes to the drive will not be saved if you do not properly unmount/eject the drive from PC (in Ubuntu: right click, unmount. In Windows, eject.).
For those using stock browser, apk files often fail to download.. You can install Astro explorer and activate downloads in settings (last option). Then you should be able to download this file.
Dolphin should work without issues..
This is a Beta release.
This requires a working root (su). By that I mean your nook must be rooted. Regarding HC, see j4mm3r's thread.
This can be used, for example, to open your SD or internal data on your PC..
You can mount pretty much any partition to your computer with this app:
- SD
- Media (internal drive for your media and documents...)
- SD Partitions (up to 4)
- Internal storage - BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS!!
There are two "mount points" on the nook (lun0 and lun1)
So you can simultanously mount two partitons.
As an example, you can mount SD on 1st and MEDIA on the 2nd.
Each mount point has it's own tab.
Please try it out and post feedback.
Thank you.
EDIT (13.02.2011):
This has been tested on HoneyComb and Froyo (not in Eclair 1.0>1.1).
In Froyo: USB Mass Storage (Notification bar) should be turned off.
Compatibility mode will need to be disabled in Spare parts (reboot required).
If this doesn't work for you, try entering manually in ADB while NC plugged in to your PC:
Code:
adb shell
echo /dev/block/mmcblk0p8 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
And post result here.

UPDATES:
13-02-2011: 0.2b => minor bugs and made app scrollable for Froyo Landscape
26-02-2011: 0.3b:
- Changed 'settings' label (mistake) to system.
- Added a "Make sure you properly unmount/eject drive from PC when finished" message when mounting.
- Added dual boot system and data (p9 and p10).
- Changed 'Confirm mounting' to 'Confirm', as poster suggested. Thanks.

Hmm can't quite seen to get it to work right. The app does nothing for me when I select a partition to mount. I can get the SD card mounted via android's USB connected notification. I've tried the app with it turned on and off. It's got super user, so that's not it. By the way, I'm running Froyo 6.7 off the eMMC. Let me know what to try.
EDIT: Got it to work after running the ADB command in 1st post. Awesome app, thanks.
Sam,
Thank You, you program made my day. It works great, I have been messing with vold.fstab for days and I could only mount the boot of my sdcard. So, I went with manually pushing file to /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/luno/file which worked but your app make the process much better.
Again Thank you for everything you have done.
Biz
Could this work as a Xbox media storage? I want to get a new demo, and I got no Hard Drive
Works great!
this is great! i was thinking (since your help in the other thread) about trying to cobble something like this together myself in android app creator suite but didnt know if i could manage or not. Now i dont need to even try! thank!
EDIT: 2 things, one, is it possible to have this setting survive a reboot? and secondly, is the display supposed to be tiny? it only fills like a third of the screen and is centered at the top. this is on emmc froyo 0.6.7 the screen is scrollable as you said so just have to scroll down for the confirmed button
Does it unmount them on the nook when they are attached to the PC? I was playing with the echo command and it seems that the nook is unable to see any changes to the filesystem. I wrote a script that unmount them then runs the echo statement. Then another script that remount them once they are disconnected.
Good question. As I said, this is beta. I'm open to any suggestion. From what I tested, changes did actually occur even when mounted on android..
Unchecked compatibility mode in spare parts and reboot for fullscreen..

Interesting. I did see that if you try to download / install directly from the HC browser it doesn't work. Perhaps people do this instead of trying with their computer and assume it doesn't work? Downloads don't equal successful installs.
For Windows users, it (currently) provides the only way to mount the 4th partition of my HC SD card. Am I mistaken? Perhaps others don't realize what this is or are put off by the UI?
Keep it up. This is a much needed utility ATM.
The UI isn't THAT awful, is it?
Anyway, this can help a lot of people, especially the ones not too familiar with ADB..

To a person familar with partitions and the android file system it's fine. To those expecting a more fruity / friendly UI, it's far from it. However, you can't please everyone and it might be a waste of your energy to try. It's practical / functional and that's all I need it to be.
Indeed it can, much preferred over ADB even though I can use it just fine. You might want to make it more clear in the OP that users that have problems may need to type "adb shell" before the echo command. Not everyone will know this.
You app works well Sam! I can finally access my media partition via USB. I am looking forward to updates. Perhaps retaining setting after a reboot? Great work man!
Works great! I downloaded it with dolphin browser (running froyo on emmc) Then used root explorer to navigate to downloads and just clicked to install. Doesn't get any easier than that!
Would it be possible to have it mount media partitions? Like if I have dual boot setup would it be possible to mount the extra partitions to edit them?
Which media partitions?
Right, forgot about dual booters.. I'll implement that in 0.3..
Thanks.

I want to thank you so much for this samuelhalff. I mean it. Something like this that may seem trivial to someone who can just do it means a WORLD to someone like me and i truly truly appreciate it. I think its great for someone that cant afford the next great thing **xoom** to be able to join in the tech fun. You all have made me very happy with my little tablet.
Jamie.
Love the app!!!! but i got a issue now... There is no way for me to browse the media partition on the device... so I can not access my pictures that I placed on the internal storage...any insight?
Working great for me, HC on eMMC. Appreciate it!

[ROMS]Dualboot Phiremod / Honeycomb Image for SDcard [UPDATE-6/22]

Hi again everyone,
I've prepped an IMG file that you can dualboot Phiremod v6.1 and HC v4 2nd Edition off one SDcard.
1-The image file is 3.7gb. So you will need a 4gb SDcard or larger.
2-Both roms share the same SDcard partition. So on a 4gb card, the available space is limited to 1.8gb.
3-If you use an 8gb SDcard. To get use of the remaining storage on your SDcard. Just burn the image and then use EASUS Partition Manager to extend the SDcard partition. (Which is the 7th partition on the card)
4-I've udpated the Phiremod v6.1 with:
-The latest OC Kernel by Dalingrin 041811C
-Alsa update for smoother video playback
-Honeycomb Softkey Icons by XDA user Bawb3
I've done this mainly just for fun and to see if it would work and thought I'd share it with everyone if you wanna give it a go. Thanks to all the devs for all their hard work in getting these great ROMs for our Nook Color.

Follow directions from Nookdevs.com to burn the image to your SDcard.
Burning a bootable SD card
Once you burn the image to your SDcard. Power off your nook and place the SDcard in your nook.
-To boot into Phiremod Nook v6.1 just power on your nook with the sdcard in and leave it alone.
-To boot into HCv4 2nd Edition, hold the HOME button while powering on. Continue holding the HOME button until you see the "Android..._" screen.
Take it or leave it, just hope you enjoy it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit 5/23: Updated Img with Phiremod 6.2 and Madcat's Honeycomb Hybrid-RC1
Reason for creating a new image and not just a flashable update is because the HC Hybrid /system was too large to fit on the original Dualboot img. So I prepped a new one for that reason as well as making the image smaller so it will definitely fit on a 4gb uSDcard.
What's included in this new image:
1- A 3.4gb Img file that should fit on any 4gb uSDcard or larger
2- J4mm3r's u-boot menu! (Read here for more info on how to use it)
3- Latest Phiremod 6.2 with Dalingrins 4/13a OC and Alsa update
4- Latest Divine_Madcat's Honeycomb Hybrid RC1
5- Honeycomb Hybrid RC1 has my sdcard mount workaround. I also included a file manager.
6- Read here for more info on the sdcard mount workaround.
7- Follow the steps above to burn the image to your uSDcard
8- Enjoy!
Keep in mind that the Honeycomb Hybrid RC1 is a work in progress so there are known issues. I suggest you read the OP in this thread here to see what's working and what isn't.

Update 6/22-Phiremod Nook v7-Test Dualboot SD Package Update:
This will format /system and /data of your Phiremod rom. So please backup all your apps!
Well I went ahead and made it easier for everyone. So I packaged the whole Phiremod v7-Test as a CWM-SD Flashable zip. This will install phiremod-nook-v7-test, gapps, and will install the launcher-pro backup to the sdcard partition for you.
-All you have to do is download the 'phiremod-nook-v7-TEST-SD-CWM-package.zip' file, no need to extract anything
-Boot into CWM-SD and flash the package zip file
-Reboot when done
-It will prompt with 2 different options on startup, choose "Setup Wizard"
-For some reason it won't get past that, even when touching the Android guy, to get around this touch all 4 corners of the nook screen starting with:
1. top left hand corner
2. top right hand corner
3. bottom right hand corner (just above the 'change language' button)
4. bottom left hand corner (just above the 'emergency' button)
-That should get you to the main screen.
-Connect to a wireless network
-Market will not populate correctly, so go into the app drawer and choose 'Talk'
-That should give you an option to add a google account
-Once completed go back to the main screen and goto options--> preferences --> and restore the launcher pro backup
-You should now see Market on the home screen
-Don't forget to thank the devs!

Edit 5/5: Update Phiremod to 6.2 and Honeycomb to Madcat's Honeycomb_RC1
1- I forgot to mention that with your dualboot rom SDcard. It also contains a Modded CWM that will allow you to flash updated roms from "my" thread only!
2- Place the .zips you downloaded from this thread onto your /sdcard (7th) partition.
3- To boot into the Modded CWM. When powering on your nook. Hold the "volume+/volume-" together while booting up, until it loads up CWM
4- Now select "choose zip from sdcard"
5- Choose the .zip file and confirm "yes"
6- Sit back and let it do its thing
7- You can either flash another rom or go back to the CWM main menu and choose "Reboot system now"
8- Enjoy your updated roms!

If you get a keyboard failure error on first boot. Just do a quick reboot and it should go away. Downloads from market seems very slow off an SDcard install. Might just depend on what Class it is. And remember. This is a WIP. Don't forget to thank Madcat for his work on this!

If I've helped in some way, please say thanks in one way or another!
Thanks,

Nice. Will try

AAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh
Just when I think: "Enough of this craziness, let's just sit down and enjoy my nifty little device," along comes YET ANOTHER rom to flash!
If I do this one, though, I get back one, maybe two of my 8 GB cards. So, win/win.
Excellent work, Racks!

Please let me know if it works out for you or not. Just so I can make any needed changes if necessary.
Thanks,

Worked great for me. Had my flashing 4gb and it booted right up into HC. Great work. Didn't realize how good HC looked on here, but I'm sticking to Phiremod for now.

Howdy,
Any way to implement this "mod" into your image???
[ZIP][CM7] Nook Color SDcard and emmc swap!
Thanks very much Racks, it works really well. Finally get a chance to try Phiremod and honeycomb without using 2 SD cards!! I only have one, the poor guy that I am
I too loaded the image to a 4 gig card and it seems to work fine so far. Thanks for your efforts!
Thanks man.... It worked for me as well!
oops maybe I spoke too soon, the phiremod works ok, but, the honeycomb loader never gets by the screen with the android_ on it. I will reflash later without epanding the partition on the SD card to see does that make a difference.
(yeah I used an 8GB card and used easus to expand the 7th partition.)
Glad to see that this image was useful to some!
Thanks everyone for the thanks,
Racks

Didn't actually get to try it last night. Bandwidth trouble.
Downloaded, unzipped, flashed to a 8gb Sandisk card. Left it as burned.
Installed in Nook: Booted to Phiremod AOK. Rebooted into Honeycomb AOK*.
Shut down and put sdcard back in my PC to resize the sdcard partition. Hmmm.
Both EASUS and MiniTool show the card as 8GB unallocated (ie: no partition information available!!).
Put it back in nook and reboot. Comes up to phiremod AOK. Weird.
OK, second time around putting SDcard in PC, I got correct mount and could edit partitions.

* - Honeycomb lock screen says "Running on internal eMMC" which we know is not true.
** - I love that you changed the POST message. Those of us in Pennsylvania see the stock message as Touch the Future of Redding (the city). Um.. Not without latex gloves, I think.

Lol. I really appreciate you sharing your experience with everyone.
And regarding honeycomb mentioning it's running off emmc. That's because I took the complete zip from samuelhalffs thread without modification and prepped it for the SD install.
Thanks,
Racks
How would i benefit if i already have phiremod v6 installed emmc?
First ever post: Great Job!!
Have been a lurker in the site for the longest time. Been actively watching the developments in the HD2, NookColor and GTab forums.
Kudos to all the developers and modders who've made Android dream a reality.
And, a special thanks to you, who made it a double treat for people like me.
Only trouble, with this dual ROM (which I've to tell you, my friend, has blown my mind away), that I've not been able to overcome yet is, getting my XP Pro or Win 7 Pro to recognize my 7th partition (SDCard). Nothing I've done so far has helped.
Tried both ADB and NookColorUMS. I sure am doing something wrong. Any help is much appreciated.
Once again, THANK YOU!

Thanks for the kind words. Just remember to thank the guys who developed the roms. To mount the 7th partition try running the following command in adb shell:
#echo /dev/block/mmcblk1p7 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file
This should mount the 7th partition. Let me know if it works.
Thanks,
Racks
I was looking to dual boot Phiremod and Stock on EMMC after seeing how awesome Phiremod is, but the place that I found supplying ROMs for dual-boot EMMC doesn't have Phiremod. Do you know where I could find it/do it (total n00b)

Market script
Excellent work OP (and obviously all the devs that made the roms etc.). One quick question though, I first flashed this image on a transcend class 6 8gb card and, due to the low random write speeds, I experienced random sluggishness and force closes. I will be resolving this issue tomorrow, but another issue has arisen. When I first ran the market a script ran that asked which gapps i wanted installed. After it directed me to install the first two gapps the market force closed. Before I had realized that it was my SD card that was causing the force closes I tried reflashing the SD card with this image again but when I opened the market again after reflashing the script didn't run.
My question is this: When I flash the new SD card will the market script run again? And if not, how would I go about have the market script run again?
Thanks in Advance,
Deusx
I just love it, i just love it racks. Now i'm tryinna get used to the honeycomb. How do i change wallpaper?
