[Q] GPS for Archos IT - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do anyone have idea for connecting Archos IT device to WM for using GPS function of WM.
I am thinking that it should be possible that Archos IT using BT to connect to WM phone to get the coordination and display the map in Android.
I don't know whether this is such application already available in the market, the simplest way I can think of is using some application in WM to generate the coordination to a file, and Android app will get such file from WM to get the coordination. Any idea?

thank you for your page. I am using WM phone instead of android phone, also I can't find any app in that page.
But from your page, I got some idea that WM phone can be act as a GPS receiver, and I found that there is a wm app call GpsGate that can turn WM phone into a Bluetooth GPS receiver. I have already installed the GpsGate, and will try to try it out tonight.

GPS gate is ok but phone GPS isn't great and you may want to tether as well.
BT GPS is cheaper than the software (software works but my globslsat bt-359 is so much better).
John

I use the GPSGate is not because of the cost issue. If my mobile phone can become a gps receiver, I don't need to bring one more device to go outside.

I use GPS2Blue...works great....

Help - Calling anyone who uses a TomTom Go 910/710/510 with their Hermes

I have a TomTom Go 910 and an M3100 running WM6.
I have been using the hands-free BT connection with no problem.
However, I recently tried to set up a data connection to access TomTom Plus services through the phone over BT, and the setup routine fails every time. (I have no problem connecting to the internet over WAP from the phone in general).
Of course, TomTom support refuse to help, telling me that the phone is not supported for the 910. According to them I should not even be able to use the hands-free feature...
Before I go spending hours trying different ROMs and BT stacks etc., does anyone out there have the same setup (even with a 710 or 510) and got it to work? (No point wasting time if they are simply not compatible and no one has actually got it to work).
Thanks for your help
My very basic guess is that you need to use the Internet Connection Sharing program on windows mobile, as just paring the devices won't do anything.
So I guess I fire ICS up and and choose Bluetooth PAN and then try to see if TomTom sees it.?
I'll try tonight and report back.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Let us know how it goes. But isn't WM6 lacking either PAN or DUN that's required to establish the connection?
No luck using ICS

Well, I tried it... no luck. TomTom still insists on going through a DUN setup routine (entering access point, GPRS dial-up number, etc.) and promptly fails both with automatic and manual setup. It does not detect the PAN already running with ICS connected.
I wonder if DUN can be ported back to WM6 with CABs from WM5?
Any other ideas?

Question on GPS for 6800

I downloaded and installed the 6.1 with gps. I was curious is there any programs that lets you use the htc 6800 as a gps unit to connect to your laptop. Like say I'm using google earth or any other program on the laptop, Is there a program that would let me connect the htc to the laptop to use it as the gps device?
ppc 6800 and using as external GPS (bluetooth with laptop for example)

I found GPS2Blue works decently. Works either via Bluetooth or TCP connection, check site for more details.

Thanks tim, I gave that program a try, works great.
I have another question, Does anyone know of a program that would send gps data to a website to monitor where you are? For example, I'm taking a road trip to my mother's about 500 miles away. I want her to be able to monitor on my trip progress over the web. So as I'm driving my phone can upload my gps data to a website so she can track it without annoying me with phone calls while I'm driving.
I used to have this on a rig with a gps device and a Kenwood radio. I would send packet data through the radio and have a site to display my postion. I havn't really had a radio in a while. I thought someone might of came up with something like this.
Sprite Terminator might do the job for you... one of its features is locating your phone via GPS
sprite terminator link
Well I gave that program a try, I don't think it's compatible with wm6.1. When I send the text commands to get the info back. My phone doesn't send the text message back to me.
thanks for the suggestion though, was worth a try.
sorry, i actually have not had the chance to try it. i know the thread i found it in they were speaking about adding it to a kitchen. hopefully we will have support for the program soon

Hi Michael, found a free service that should do the trick. http://www.mologogo.com/
That's the best free one I found for active updating of GPS location while traveling with main focus on friend's/family/etc GPS tracking in real-time. Wish you a safe trip and good luck!

GPS Gateway

Hello,
Is anyone know how to turn the Titan into a GPS gateway?
I found that the screen on the Titan is very small. I happens to have an iPAQ with bigger screen. I want to use the iPAQ as a GPS.
The problem is, I have loaded the GPS program on the iPAQ but was unable to obtain a Com port connection using the BT from the Titan.
Thanks
I believe gpsGate will do the trick for you.
http://gpsgate.com/index.php?id=14
Thanks for the quick reply.
I have downloaded and trying to configure.
I have no luck of getting the Titan to share the GPS over the BT connection.
Anyone know if there is any way?
Thanks

StrTrk does not find Bluetooth GPS Receiver

Hi,
I installed Erofich´s WM 6.1 Pro ROM V2 and I also installed TomTom.
Everything is working except the Bluetooth GPS Receiver.
Both devices (Receiver and Phone) are on and visible but the Telephone can not find the GPS Receiver.
The Receiver is working perfectly with my Diamond but not with the 8500.
Can anyone help me with that? (I read something about an extra external gps applet)
Regards,
sapphire_pro
i have the same rom and i use my gps reciver with route 66 and it works fine. try turning bluetooth on before you launch tomtom. and do not let the program itself to turn in on..
Yeah you are right but at first I have to pair the Receiver with the Phone (Add Device) and this is the point that is not working.
Didnt you paired your Receiver with the Phone first?
no. i did not pair it. as long as it is working, no problem
I use TomTom on the Standard version and the program pair the devices by it self as mentioned before... Just launch TomTom and it will set automaticaly, if not, do it manually. Go to the GPS Configure screen in TomTom following this steps:
Main Menu>Change preferences>next>next>next>Show GPS status>Configure
Hope it solves your problem...
Maybe...
.... this helps:
got exactly the same prob.
difference between wm5.2/6.1:
you may need to manually configure a outgoing serial port for your bt-gprs connection as follows:
Start/Settings/Connections/Bluetooth/Bluetooth/
Select Your BT-GPS
Next
check "Serial Port"
Now Your back to the BT-Device Menu:
Menu/Com Ports/Menu/New Outgoing Port/Select BT-GPS/Select Com"X"/Done
Now go to TomTom's GPS Settings an select your Com"X"
This should do.
Good Luck!
ps.
devices need to be successfully paired first, of course

[New Project] Help needed on getting TMC running on X10 Navigation

Hi Ppl.,
I'm starting a new project with this thread.
Goal is to get TMC running within Navigation Software on X10.
As we all know from the specs and my determining over here, that there is no FM Chip assembled to the X10.
But our User drobec208 had the Idea to make use of an external bluetooth / TMC device.
The Idea is to use the "FM9BT-C", made by GNS GmbH with "usually TMCable" navigation software. (Nice side affect: FM9BT-C also brings a 5V, 1A USB Charger ).
I ordered one FM9BT-C and received it yesterday.
As I make use of Sygic mobile maps for Android, I knew from the .ini files, that TMC is just deactivated after stock installation of Sygic.
Within the folder: "\sdcard\Drive\Android\" you can find the .ini files too.
But now, I'm a little stuck.
I can't even connect FM9BT-C to X10.
Pairing works fine, but the my phone shows: "Paired but not connected".
I also can't connect both devices.
I guess, it's the same issue, like I had with my Bluetooth keyboard:
Android 1.6 is simply not capable for HID Devices.
So I guess its same with the TMC Device.
The TMC Device needs to be set up with a COM Port.
But atm I don't even get so far.
So guys, whats your advice?
Any Devs around, that can help out?
Do I have to wait for 2.1 this month?
Is Android not TMC capable at all?
Kind regards,
McK
O.k., as far as I could determine myself, a Bluetooth COM Port is needed for sure.
But how can I set it up in Android?
Is is that impossible with 1.6?
if it's connected via BT I'm affraid the problem is limited Bluetooth profiles support on 1.6. The USB on FM9BT-C is just for charging?
O.k., I feared something like that.
As the Update to 2.1 will come in a few Weeks, we will see more, after it was released.
Du you know something about the profiles in 2.1?
Japp, the USB connector is for charging only.
not much, just google I'm waiting for 2.x just because of BT profiles and my SE MBW-150 support via OpenWatch http://beta.smartmadsoft.com/
http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.0-highlights.html#PlatformTechnologies
http://www.google.com/support/forum...n&fid=40c6f9447eac44e600047f171034e819&hltp=2
otherwise I'm affraid we have to wait for 2.2
http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.2-highlights.html#PlatformTechnologies
I've also recently found this Thread in a German Forum:
http://www.android-hilfe.de/439320-post42.html
Roughly, fast and only the important thing translated: Wit Android 2.1 for X10, the Bluetooth Stack will be updated to Bluetooth V 2.1, which introduces:
- secure simple pairing
- GAP Generic Access Profile
- GOEP Generic Object Exchange Profile
- OPP Object Push Profile
- PBAP Phonebook Access Profile
- SPP Serial Port Profile
So, we have to wait a little more....
@MBW-150: OMG? S///E X10 isn't supporting a S///E Bluetooth Watch... *[email protected]///E*
Uhm, bad news.
I still get "paired but not connected".
Even after updating to 2.1.
I guess the connection has to be initiated by software (like on the bluetooth keyboards).
Does anybody know the name or so of the bluetooth com port?
I'd try to connect through Sygic Mobile Maps.
hi, I'm not glad to hear that.
what happens if you try to find TMC device from within the Sygic?
P.S: My MBW-150 finaly works with X10

Unfortunately: Nothing...
My last hope is to set the bluetooth comport manually within Sygic.
With a little chance, it will activate the connection if it knows the way...
But I don't know the port
Is there an app, to list the ports or so?
maybe http://code.google.com/p/android-serialport-api/ ?
Uhm... I have no idea how to use that App
