[Q] Led Notification ? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do you think that Samsung will put an Notification LED in this phone or will be omitted like in SGS1 ?
This is a very useful and cheap HW addition and should not be missing from any phone.

Nope there's no status LED.
Not really a deal breaker for me. There's still vibrate, and notifcation sounds. Can always just turn the screen on and check messages if you were away from the phone for more than 5 minutes.

don't be so sure that there isn't one... nobody can tell until we the handset in our hands or at least a reviewer that can be asked about it.
i don't care that much about it though. my desire has an led and just flashes for 5min after a missed call. Kinda defeats the purpose if its not flashing all the time until you check it.

true, but id prefer a slight beep, notification led doesnt really do much for me, tho, im fairly sure they would implement it....

You might have discovered this already, but for all those that might stumble upon this thread:
There is a great alternative to a dedicated notification LED: BLN :victory:
BackLightNotification uses your SII's capacitive 'hard' buttons, [MENU] and [BACK], to act as notification LED's whenever the need to notify you appears.
This feature is implemented in a number of kernels; DreamKernel and Siyah I know has them (Check for the option in ExTweaks).

It was meant for those new to Android and used the search button. But then again, those who are noobs to the XDA forum probably don't know where it is... hehe

Query: notification lights

Hi everybody!
I bought a Optimus One to replace my HTC Magic Vodafone..
Since I'm missing the Notification led, I was wondering if there was some way to replace it with a glowing effect on the physical buttons or something like that..
Basically I'm asking to someone more able than me to tweak the phone to look if it is feasable or not ;P
+1 on that. "noled" app does something similar by using the screen, but I think that using backlight of phone's phyisical buttons would be the best solution.
Maybe if someone with enough skill can write an app or something..

Will recieve my LGOO tomorrow, can't wait for it !
Call me crazy guys and i truely do miss an external led notification light ..even external flashing led physical keys ...welp heh this is why i had free time to get intouch with an app developer to code the api's and do a simple app to hopefully (cross fingers) get this to work on our devices.
Needs time and a guine pig phone to test i got in return..so guys if i cant get someone to port a hd2 like api to get it flashing. So if i cant get a thrashed body phone in ok condition i might need a donor phone in alright working conditon to get testing done plus coding.
Just another step in development. I just wanna help much as i can.
+5 pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease give me it!!!

[Q] Delayed wakeup upon unlock. 4.0.3

Yes, I have searched the forum but only found old posts, nothing pertaining to ICS about this.
I've had this problem since 2.3, and it's kinda annoying.
When I press the unlock button it takes around 2sec for the phone to wake-up.
I thought this was supposed to be fixed in the verisons after 2.3, and now I have 4.0.3 and it's still present.
Anyone else have this problem?
Is it a Google or Samsung problem. Can it be remedied?

Well if you want, you could stop your phone going into deep sleep and have less battery life
Sent from my GT-I9100
Nah, don't wanna clock it up.
But is this a common problem or just some unfortunate people that have it?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
I have same problem with any stock or custom rom and is verry annoying.
It's normal. I use CM 9 and I'll hit the home button on my sleeping phone now...and it took around 1 second to wake up.
There isn't anything you can do about it.
As Riz said last month, would you rather your phone deep sleep & conserve battery when you're not using it & take a second to wake up or would you rather have a permanent wakelock & resultant battery drain in order to have it wake up in a few tenths of a second ?
I mean, we are talking about a second here. Not half a minute or something.
Yay! You got a new sig!
It always makes me wonder what people expect with these threads....it's like when you wake a pc up - it isn't instantaneous...and is a second really too long to wait?
Yeah I couldn't resist ;-)
Yep you're right. People do expect too much sometimes, as you said, how long does a PC take to wake up from hibernation ? Phone takes no time in comparison.

NFC Noise?

To be honest I'm not even sure it's a noise being produced by the NFC feature, but a post on Androidforums mentioned a noise similar to the one I'm experiencing and suggested it maybe due to the NFC feature of the S3.
Basically whenever I move my device up and down, or out of my pocket and place it on a desk or table, it makes a large "blip" like noise. It drives me absolutely mad, especially when attempting to use the device while golfing or bike riding, constantly blipping in my ear.
Can anyone else confirm this noise so I know I'm not crazy? Even better, could someone inform me how to disable this?
Thank you.

Disabled s-voice? Aww.. mess with it. If you tell it you want to die, it suggests talking to another. Say the word "******" and it chastises you. Ask it if it has a soul and it gets existential on you. There are other ways to mess with it. Have some fun.

How does Smart Alert work?

How does Smart Alert really work for the SGS3? It's just that sometimes my S3 vibrates when I have notifications and sometimes it doesn't, it's not very accurate. Is there a specific amount of idle time that the SGS3 should have first before it notifies you through vibration the next time you pick it up?
Please explain.
it's just for missed calls and text messages. Also questions go to the Q&A section.
Also mine sometimes vibrates in my pocket because the phone thinks I've picked it up. Presumably it only vibrates once, so if you miss the first vibration while it's in your pocket, it won't do it again.

Well yeah, but it should be consistent in vibrating once when I have missed calls and text messages, right? Mine doesn't do it "all the time". Sorry about posting in the wrong section. Mods please feel free to move this thread.

So you're saying yours isn't accurate also?
Smart Alert is mainly designed for when your phone is on a desk and you either cannot see the notification light, have it turned off or otherwise missed it, it lets the phone vibrate when you pick up the phone so that you are aware that you have missed something important e.g. you pick the phone up to rush out of the office for a meeting and it vibrates letting you know you missed a call or message.
I use it all the time and to be honest is probably the only reason I won't switch to CM roms (and CM have ruled out ever porting the feature)

How long would the phone need to be "not in used" mode for the phone to vibrate and alert you when you pick it up?
Replied to for the hope this feature is out there somewhere now:

Well, it is a hit and miss on my se especially when it is in my pocket. Sometimes, when a message is received it just vibrates in my pocket even though I didn't touch it.

Notifications come through as normal, hence why the phone vibrates. But, there is nothing like it out there, at all. It doesn't use up any battery either.

That'a not what I meant. Of course the initial vibration comes from the notifications. But after the notification there are times that the phone will vinrate again (smart alert vibrate) without me touching the phone. There are also times that it works properly.

I think the reason for this is the sensitivity required for it to work properly. Otherwise there would be times it would not work.

I think you guys can dial “*#*#3424#*#*”, then select "LED Test" and run it to test the LED function is OK
I have the same issue, international version unlocked 803s no led for anything except as stated for battery charging and battery charged. Did the led test, lights work fine steady, but does not blink as notifications nor does a 3rd party app work either (I already tried), glad to know I am not the only one was just about to be pissed until I saw this thread.
I dont know if this is a help for anyone, but i thought i would post it here JIC. As I said, I had the same issue with LED notifications not blinking, and found this post. well last night my son decided he was going to mess with my phone cause he was fascinated with the fingerprint scanner, he did it so many times that it asked for a pin, well for whatever reason it wouldnt take the pin I created and was forced to hard reset the phone. Obviously getting to White option screen, I chose Factory Reset and had to go thru the setup process, after I was done I noticed the green light was blinking, turned the phone on and to my amazement the notification led is working, it was letting me know I got an email! I tested it by sending myself a text msg and sure enough its working now!
So I dont know if this is an option for anyone, but I thought i would share, and if it makes any difference, the first time I setup the phone using the htc transfer tool to transfer my stuff from my Samsung Galaxy Note on to the phone, this time I told it to do it from scratch.
Hope it helps anyone.
