Temp root question - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I follow the rooting steps just to the point of gaining temp root via ADB can I uninstall the bloatware reboot and be good to go? I'm holding off for a backup recovery and root of the current firmware prior to fully rooting.
Thanks

Any answer to this? Same question - didn't feel the need to repost. Anyone?

[Q] Questions about rooting my X10i

I am thinking about rooting my X10i so I can get the great apps that I have seen that are unfortunately limited to rooted phones only.
Can someone please be kind enough to answer these questions...
1. What is the quickest and easiest way to root my X10i on firmware R2BA026?
2. Will everything on my phone be deleted during rooting process?
3. Will I still be able to get future updates with SEUS or OTA like usual, or will I need to re-root each time.
4. What are the pros and cons of rooting?
5. Is there any well known problems when rooting with R2BA026 firmware? If so what are they and can they be resolved easily?
I think that's all for now
Also, if I cannot install updates via SEUS or OTA, is there anyway to have root access and still be able to do this? What would you recommend I do?
Thanks. Very much appreciated
Andy
Andy,
1. Universal androot application.
2. No, nothing change during rooting, all settings will be the same after, dont worry.
3.Yes, you are able to get updates, but after that you have to root your phone again. After 2.1 update no one knows if rooting can be done right away.
4. Pro: change fonts, delete default not used apps, install some apps requiring root access etc. cons: you have to be a bit careful when playing in the root settings of your phone, 1 mistake can let you flash your phone again and you have to start over from scratch.
5. No problems, just be careful.
6. All these answers are here on the forum already, when you search.
Arnold.

Thanks.
I did do a search, but there was so many rooting topics, so I didn't know which was the easiest to follow

Starting Out Question

Ok, easy question. Can I backup my fascinate as a whole so if I do brick I would be able to go back with ease? Just wondering.
Well you cant really back it up until you obtain root on the handset. Once you obtain root, and install Clockwork Recovery then you can do a total system backup.
I am rooted. Sorry should of mentioned that. Installing Clockwork recovery tomorrow
thanks!
IS this the best instructions to follow to install clockwork?

[SOLVED] Lost root, how to regain? (OTA rootkeeper won't restore, CM9.1,Galaxy i9000)

Hi all, I'm a noob and I messed up my root access :crying:
What did happen?
I installed Vodoo OTA rootkeeper, made a backup and temporarily unrooted. Now I can't get root back.
What did I try?
OTA lets me click [Restore root] and responds with 'root su restored'. Root is not back though.
Then I tried to restore root manually, following guides like this: [Solved] Problem restoring root via OTA rootkeeper.
I run into the following problems:
There is no /system/bin/su-backup
there is a /system/usr/we-need-root directory but I cannot look into it and I cannot change its permissions, let alone start up a su-backup from it
What can I do?
I managed to solve it! :victory:
This is what I did:
I rebooted the phone into recovery mode and then started adb shell on a USB-connected PC. That way, I gained root access directly. Subsequently, I could follow all steps of the manual I linked before. Phew.
I want to thank some people for a least viewing my post....

[Q] New Android user root access Samsung Galaxy SIII I9300T

Hi,
I've got a few questions regarding unlocking root access for the S III.
- From my understanding so far, to enable root on the device would mean putting on completely custom firmware?
- If I need to return my Galaxy under warranty are Samsung going to go nuts if I have root access enabled?
- How am I able to return the phone back to it's previous state before root access was enabled? Does it involve going through a similar process when unlocking the phone for root access? Or is it as simple as going into a recovery mode and selecting some sort of reset/factory reset option?
- Would future Android updates be affected by enabling root access?
- Will updates from Android revert root access each time they are installed?
- Besides any answers you have listed above, are there any minor/major negatives to enabling root access?
Thanks

1) no, you can also have root with stock firmware
2) yes they will go nuts, hence you have to unroot & flash back an original firmware to also get the "original" state and not "modified"
3) flash a normal stock rom, you will loose root access
4) yes they will be affected as your device is "modified", anyway you will be able to install them via Odin or Mobile Odin from sammobile.com
5) yes, you will loose root when flashing a new firmware, or you have to use Mobile Odin which roots during the flashing process
6) first start: read the stickies and if you are not sure why you need root, don't do it!

[Q]Maual Rooting

Hi All,
In my quest to learn a little more about my device, I've decided that I want to know how rooting is actually done manually. Where it stands, my device is currently rooted using a CF Autoroot Odin flashable (recovery?).
I saw that Super SU provides a CWM flashable zip but I suspect that it's the same as sideloading the application or installing it from the store and that won't be enough to get rooted. Or is it?
Bumping my thread

(1) please read the FAQ and stickies to understand what rooting is and why CF autoroot has nothing to do with recovery
(2) cf autoroot, if I am not wrong, but I might be, injects files that will enable you to have full access to the device, after that for instance you can flash a new recovery, use apps that need root etc. super user is the app to control which apps you allow to obtain root.

I've read and followed the procedure for rooting ang flashing with a custom recovery previously but I've followed your suggestion and re-read it anyway, in case I missed something or my memory loss kicked in again.
Perhaps you are correct. I was a little confused since I flashed it with Odin as well but come to think of it; it's like an upgrade package that, as you mentioned, uploads files to the device that give Superuser Access.
after that for instance you can flash a new recovery

I've flashed a custom recovery before rooting but I suppose that only applies to some devices. Samsung is great because it has Odin!
Alright, so SuperSU only allows me to control what applications require root access (something like User Account Control for Windows).
Thanks for clearing that up!
As for my original question, the manual rooting process and what's required to gain root access seems undocumented since there are a ton of methods to accomplish it automatically. I hope someone can point me to the right place to understand what CF Autoroot or other apps actually do to gain root.
