4G or not? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I don't live in a 4G area. But yesterday while at work I noticed I had a 4g signal. Did speed test and downloads were great. Now today I'm not reading a 4g signal, what gives? By the way I did root my phone last night, you think that has something to do with it?

Verizon tests the 4g and turns it off...like a trial.. i wouldnt be suprised if you saw the signal today and it went away again

Also, they are rolling out dozens of cities in the next few months, and I don't know that their coverage map will necessarily be kept up to date. You could end up in a 4G area before anyone bothers to tell you.

Well I hope they turn it back on soon. Nice to have 4g at work. Maybe I should go find the switch and turn it back on!

4g radio turning off?

has anyone else had issues with 4g turning off randomly? the first several days i had this phone, i could get a 4g signal anywhere in my apartment. i know because i had serious issues with sprint signal in my apartment, so i practically haven't put this phone down since i got it.
yesterday i was tethering on 4g a lot and when i disabled tethering the 4g radio turned off and i just had two bars, but it didn't say 4g OR 3g. i went into the settings dialing *#*#4636#*#* or whatever it is and enabled LTE only mode (it had been on 3g/4g auto). when i did that, i had 4g for about 30 seconds to a minute and then it went to 3g. same thing happened this morning. maybe they are playing with the towers because as im typing this i see i have auto switched back to 4g. hmm.

I received my TB on Friday afternoon and had 4G all day and night until this morning. Woke up, powered the phone on and had only 3G. 4G came back after an hour or so.
I bought mine last week and didn't have any problems until this morning. For the first time I left the power off overnight and when I turned it back on I couldn't get a 3G or a 4G signal. It's been an hour now and I still don't have a signal. I've commuted from Maryland to DC in that time so it's not the area.
Same here. Mines been going on off all morning. Im in tampa
sent from my Tbolt.
I'll note that I'm in Chicago, but 4g seems solid again now (fingers crossed).

this is discussed in multiple threads already, you might search them out, but yes, many have the issue. I have that issue specifically that you mention, but even more frustrating also get time where the 4G icon is there, and there is zero data connectivity; all apps show "network connection required".
Sems like LTE isn't rock-solid service yet.
I have the same problem after I rooted last night. I had 4G everywhere in my house. Now I get mostly 1X and maybe 3G if I am lucky. The radio version was much higher before.
Same Here
I called Verizon. there is a known issue with 4g Tbolt. they said they are working on it. Coworkers with 3g phones are having no issues. I am still getting 1x if i am lucky. Chicago area.
glad to know i'm not alone with this, in metro nyc area (commuting between nj/nyc)
I am also have the same problem as of this morning. Just called Verizon and they said they are working on it. Now my phone is stuck on 1X I am in Queens NY right now coming from the Bronx...funny thing when I power down the phone and turn it back on it stays on 4G for about a second and disconects
I am also having issues with 4G going in and out. I had not had any issues until this morning and it was a bit worrisome as I just rooted last night and I was afraid something I had done might have caused an issue. But it seems like a national problem being addressed, so I'll just wait it out I guess.

I had the same problem this morning going from MD to DC. I was worried it was my phone. All seems well now. Getting 15 down now.
Still seem to be having issues in NY

is this a network problem or phone problem?
Stuck on 1x as well, outside Philly. Hoping it's not just me.
I'm having same issue, but mine happened just after I rooted my phone. Before rooting I had never seen my phone go into 3G mode, but now it goes to 1x or nothing.Hopefully its an issue on Verizon's end and not my phone.
In Detroit, also on 1x.

I am also experiencing this issue as of this morning in Northern VA. I guess early adopters have to expect some type of issue.
Seems to be network related... At least not the phone
Yup confirmed with tech support, there's a nationwide outage with 4g data and they are working it with the highest priority, the tech said. Ah the costs of new technology. Always will have issues at start.

Anyone else lose 4G signal?

Just wondering if anyone else has lost their 4G signal today? I've been running fine all week, but all of a sudden today I just can't pick up 4G. I'm still running stock on my phone, and just don't get it?
It could be the weather. It has rained pretty good over here in the OC and 4G was pretty patchy for me
No problems here in Atlanta today with 4g
Ok, I just called Verizon. They told me that they're adding more coverage in the Miami area where I live, so that may be the issue? I was told to call back later in the evening if I'm still not picking up 4G.
Sucks in DC. 4G goes in and out.
Most of the time when im on 4G ill get connection errors. Just got TB yesterday so who knows.
Also, the phone (or network) seems to think i can go between DC and Texas within a few seconds. Had to turn off automatic updating.....
this morning when i woke up no 4g but i rebooted and nothing did a hard reboot everything is normal
What zip code are you in William? i'm in 33016 and have been only getting 3G however i was getting 4G a few days ago. I wonder if they adding more towers near me. I do hope so, will make my work day that more pleasurable lol

Is Verizon having 4g/3g Data Issues or Something?

I have no clue what the issue is, but the past two/three days, my 4g has been going in and out. As a matter of fact, as I sit here... I'm on 1x with 4 bars behind it, full battery life, on Pennsylvania Ave in Washington DC.
Anyone else having 4g issues?
same here. even if i have two bars on 4g all of sudden my data connection drops then goes to 3g and a second later switches back to 4g. its annoying as hell when im tryin tether or download something from the market.
I am having problems again since last night. Had almost two days of good 4G signal. Now I can barely get 3G.
Called VZW they said there has been a trouble ticket for Thunderbolt data since yesterday and hope to have it resolved today.
I think they're tweaking it or something. I'm changing in between every 30 seconds. That in itself drains the battery a buttload.
Something is rotten in Denmark with this new network. I can force 3G only but if I leave the thing set to CDMA/LTE, it can't figure out which it wants. Which is pretty much killing all data. Luckily, wifi is an option. I hope they get this new network figured out soon. More LTE devices are slated to drop soon (bet there will be delays).
I was constantly in a state of 1x today. My battery was eaten up it a mere 5 hours... gulp
hell im on verizons 4g map at home here and havent been able to get 4g at all.Ive had the phone for two weeks now and have called verizon about this,,they tried pushing some data info to my phone to no avail,,so i guess im on record now according to the rep and she did admit that this is a work in progress...yes thank god for wifi.
double post?

Mine has been flakier than usual today and this week. I'm on K and 1st NE. But I also never get more than 2 bars here in the office.
If i were you i'd call verizon tech support and ask them if where you are is currently under 4g. I've had the same issue and my address on the coverage map shows that i have 4g but it kept going in and out. Called VZW and they have a different coverage map that they see and he said where i was located i was 1 mile away from the coverage area so thats why it kept switching. Just my luck huh lol

Can't keep LTE signal

I seem to be able to pick up an LTE signal all over KC but can only hold it for a minute or so, then it goes back to 3g and never picks back up LTE while I'm in the area. Anyone else having issues like this? Anyone think I have a bad unit?
Thanks
It's currently a problem with the EVO

Not just the EVO
I just got a new Evo yesterday because the old one died out the blue and wouldn't turn back on. The old one was rooted /with the new firmware & running that mean Rom. I rooted on the 14th of July & I live in Atlanta, so when they made 4g available I saw it in my status bar and was very happy .Then seconds later it was gone.On top of that my phone was super slow and not impressive anymore. I thought the root /rom/firmware screwed something up. But ppl told me know firmware updates help and mean Rom is the best Rom ..Well anyway I'm at home right now on my phone ..no root ..no Rom ...old firmware and sometype of way the 4g LTE signal is holding strong. I'm getting like 12-15 down & 11 up and I'm in the house. Usually in the house I got like 5-11 in the house depending on location. When I'm outside it goes much faster. But I don't know just something I noticed.

[Q] My problem with LTE...

... after quickly ready through some of the threads here, there seems to be a problem with alot of EVOs not staying connected to LTE signal. In thier experiences thier phone will find the 4G signal then quickly drop back 3G or thier phone will not even connect to a 4G signal even though they are in a confirmed 4G area.
I never had this problem until recently. When 4G went unofficially live in Los Angeles my phone would switch seamless from 3g to 4g and back. It was just recently in the last week that my phone now will not connect to 4G unless I cycle through airplane mode. Once 'im on 4G my phones signal is rock solid and stays on 4G. When I'm out of a 4G area it drops back to 3G but will not swap back to 4G when I return to a 4G area.
It so weird that all of a sudden it started doing this. I notice that when this happens i'm at half (or less) charge. Maybe my phone is doing this to conserve battery.. i don't know. I can see if my phone did this from the get go but it's just weird that for two weeks it was fine and them all of a sudden the radios are not swapping correctly...
thoughts?
UPDATE : So i got off the phone with HTC and they said it is a tower/carrier problem. Is this possible?

Possible: Yes.
But no, its exclusive to the EVO LTE. You can inform them that the iPhone 5, SGS 3 & LG Viper (I wouldn't say all of them, but some of them, you're just trying to get a point across) phones in your area, stay connected, where as the EVO LTE (say your's & a few others) does, not.
^It doesn't have to be true, but the fact that it is a bug, is true & it needs to be addressed. If it were carrier based, Sprint's other LTE phones would be in the same boat.
Say your'e reporting it as a bug & could you submit a ticket or add to an exsisting one. (Heck, they might not even have trouble tickets.)
People mess up the bug process by going back and forth with the rep, just stick you your guns & stay polite.
I think it's an Evo LTE thing myself. I just got LTE here in LA, and I actually just noticed that I was back on 3G for whatever reason. Got back on by airplane mode-ing.
Although, I will say that it has gone to 4G automatically in another part of LA, so I'm not sure what's going on with that.
I would've liked for the LTE to be a toggle like 4G was on the OG Evo.
I wpuldnt know, Arizona never gets any love haha

I think it was the towers because all of a sudden my phone is switching seamlessly again.
