[Q] Major mess up! Help please! - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings All,
I rooted my phone few months ago and have installed few ROM's. Sadly the one I had for sometime was a battery hog and couldnt even last for a day. I thought its time to change it and tried installing elinux and looks like I messed up my phone.
I installed elinux update.zip and it rebooted and is giving me boot loop. It just gets struck at htc screen and does not move ahead. I also dont see recovery in hboot. most of the times I cant get to hboot and when I do it shows me error message which is in the lines of no image - error . Can someone please ,please tell me what to do? of what I read online, I can install recovery image using adb..but in my case, I cant as I cant enable that usb debugging option.
please please help me...
phone : HTC hero - Asian
Thanks a ton and appreciate you reading this

My prepared answer for all such questions: Try a RUU install from PC It always works

thanks for reading my question.
Can you please tell me more about installing ruu from system. how do I do that? How can I install ruu or anythin like that when I cant connect my phone to my com[puter and change the usb debugging. I would really appreciate if you can let me know. thanks a ton

The trick is, you don't need usb debugging checked for installing ruu Booting into fastboot is enough (Power+Back).
In this case, You'll ned to download a proper official ruu for your device ASIA_HTC_HERO +verson for example, just google it). then connect usb cabel, power into fastboot wait a little for drivers, and run the ruu exe file. It will do all the work.
You just need to find the right RUU for your regional phone version.

Didnt want to mess it up without knowing what am doing. Took it to a shop and its up and running. Thanks for your help buddy.

[Q] Need help (please) with bricked Hero!

I screwed up, I tried to root my Hero without the skills!
After a couple of steps I can't retrace, my Hero rebooted and boot looped on the cyanogen boot screen.
These are the steps I've tried so far.
I can start up the phone to fastboot usb. (Hboot just lists a couple of HERODIAG files not found)
"fastboot devices" sees my phone, adb doesn't.
My driver said HTC BOOTLOADER, I changed it to MY HTC, so the drivers should be ok. HTC sync doenst find my phone
I downloaded RUU, but it cant finish the update, probably not the right RUU?
How do I find out the right RUU?
I have been checking out posts like crazy, trying every single thing out, most of my searches end up in this forum, so you guys are my final hope!

[Q] HTC One X+ Stuck on Bootloader Screen on 3 Network (UK)

Dear All,
I am a newbie on this so please bear with me. I did take the time out to read up on some of the basics before I posted this but I am not familiar with most of the acronyms.
I bought a HTC One X+ with no power button. The seller claimed he bought the phone as is and didnt know if the phone worked or not.
When I received it, I placed a power button and put it on charge. Within minutes the phone loaded with the 3 logo (UK) but to the bootloader screen. I tried all the various options from Hboot, Restart, Restart with Bootloader and Power Down. When I choose HBoot, I get the following error:
sd checking....
Failed to open USB master mode
(preload) Failed to open USB master mode
loading image....
Failed to open USB master mode
Plug off device.
When I try to power down, it simply restarts. When I choose Recovery, nothing works. I just keep coming back to the bootloader screen no matter what I do.
I read the following thread but I didnt understand some of it, eg RUU. I assume this is the type of ROM that is flashed to the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1940194
I have tried connecting phone to the laptop to see if I can see the drive in windows explorer. Laptop recognises the HTC phone in System Device (loaded HTC Sync Manager from HTC website) but it wont recognise the phone's drive. When I try to use the CMD box, i get same issue. It cannot find the phone's storage, therefore I cannot write anything to the phone.
It seems like whoever tried to flash this phone which is on the 3 network made a hash of it, as from reading the above thread, it looks like 3 networked HTC One X cannot be unlocked.
Therefore is it possible to get this phone back to working mode as it was, given the issues I am having.
Any help will be mightily appreciated! :good:
Thanks
Shanni
you got those "errors" because you have the usb cable plugged in too soon.

I have tried it with cable in early and late. It is the same issue
I just realised it is NOT on the 3 network, that is my HTC One X! Cant believe I got that mixed up!
Actually I dont know what network this is on as I cant get out of bootloader!
I have been informed by a friend that the phone needs to be s-off before it can be flashed. How can I do this?
this device DOES NOT need s-off so your friend is talking out of his ass,
the guide to flash ruu's is in the general section
also there is NO WAY to s-off the X+

Ok cool, I will have a look at flashing ruu's. Will that fix my phone?

I keep getting signature errors everytime I try a different UK network RUU! I dont even know what this signature error means!
Also how do I know which RUU to use as there are so many different types. Any help will be gladly appreciated
I have followed Hasoon's directions using his utility tool. I have managed to unlock the phone but cant get beyond that.
Every single viable HTC One X+ RUU I use simply doesnt work. I cant access the USB drive to my phone (prob because the person previously never ticked USB Debugging when he/she attempted to root the phone) so cannot transfer the RUU files to my phone.
I have tried to run the original RUU for this phone but it keeps giving me an error. I have no idea what to do next. I have read all the posts on the General Forum for instructions on ADB, rooting, unlocking, RUUs etc.
I would truly be thankful if I can get some assistance here please.

where in the UK are you? if you are close to me i can sort it out for you. Also you need to relock the bootloader put the device into bootloader > fastboot usb and THEN run the correct RUU

I am in Manchester. I have relocked the bootloader but now the phone wont charge. I have seen a post here how to fix that, so I will try that.
I have done the above but I simply do not know what the correct RUU is. How do I even know which is right? I have tried around 10 so far and none have worked.
Fixed It!!!!
I cant believe it! I fixed it!!!!
I accidentally came up on a post here on this forum looking for something else and a member discussed the same problem as me. The reason why he was getting the signature error etc because he had the wrong recovery loaded.
I therefore loaded the latest TWRP version from here (link provided from General Settings) - http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/enrc2b
I didnt use Hasoon's recovery as TWRP is user friendly. I relocked the phone, loaded the correct RUU and it worked!
So to summarise this is how I fixed my phone
1. Downloaded Hasoon2000's toolkit from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2066390
2. Rooted the phone
3. Unlocked the phone
4. Flashed latest recovery file using his toolkit (Your Own Recovery)
5. Loaded the correct RUU - RUU_ENRC2B_U_JB_45_HTC_Europe_1.17.401.1_Radio_3.1204.168.32_release_299688_signed.exe from http://androidfiles.org/ruu/?dir=ENRC2B
NB to know which RUU to use, go into bootloader and you will see the RUU details at the top part of the screen - in my case it was Radio_3.1204.168.32. Also when I tried to run any RUU.exe file it told me the version I had was 1.17.401.1. I searched for it on the android files and found the above RUU to match my RUU. This I guess is the stock RUU.
As a newbie, it can be very tough trying to understand this, but this forum is just awesome!! I am an accountant by profession, and I cant believe I figured how to fix an HTC One X+ by going through this forum! The FAQ has it all - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2179337
Thanks to everyone who gave their advice here!
I am now going to try performance tweaks next as I am feeling confident

[Q] Stock Recovery shows error while rooting

Hello friends,
This is my first question and I really need help with this one. I am not a developer but trying to learn a few things to keep up. I have an HTC Desire X which went crazy after a jelly bean update and hence I decided to do something about it. I heard about rooting and flashing phone from my boyfriend and hence I got brave and read about rooting from this forum...but really messed things up.
I tried rooting Desire X running android jelly bean using Desire_X_All-In-One_Kit_v2.0 by hasson2000. I got really excited and messed thing up. Instead of following the correct procedure, I actually tried flashing a ClockWorkMod recovery without unlocking the phone. During the flashing process, I got the Fastboot menu on my phone and so I cancelled the first command line on my PC screen. The second screen appeared but after waiting for a long time nothing happened so I got scared and removed my USB cable form the phone. Then I tried the exact procedure given in this forum. But when I did, instead of booting into the Fastboot menu, phone shows a red triangle with an '!' symbol.
I can boot into the Fastboot menu by pressing Power and Volume Down button but then my computer doesn't recognize my phone.
Please help...this phone is my life..:crying:
Before you do anything further, do you have HTC USB Drivers installed on your PC ?
Your PC running Windows 8 and below ? And is your PC has USB 2.0 ?
The screen that you show is the screen before you go to stock recovery.
You said your JB update not working right, have you try to factory reset your device after you do the update ?
Before you can do rooting and flashing ROMs, you need to unlock the bootloader first. Unlocking bootloader will make your warranty void and null. So make your decision whether you want to proceed with bootloader unlocking.
I strongly recommend not to use a toolkit but to do it yourself. You don't have exact control about what the toolkit does, also you'll learn more about the process that way. Some important things to mention further: If you decide to unlock your bootloader, do it via the www.htcdev.com site. There, you'll need a login first, after that you can proceed with the steps given to you by the site. As ckpv5 said, you need to be sure to have all the drivers installed correctly (or use a linux live cd instead). Then, after you have installed a custom recovery, take a backup of the stock firmware first before you start to change anything! That's really important, otherwise you won't be able to get back to stock anymore. Good luck!

Thank you. You guys are so quick and helpful.
Yes I did install all the drivers of HTC but still my PC wont recognise my device when in I use power button and volume down key to boot into fastboot. My computer runs on Windows 8. I have the USB drivers installed and I have also tried a factory reset of my phone but nothing works! I think what I did made something bad happen to phone recovery.
Please help
Did you read everything and tried it as we said? Do you use USB 2.0 instead of USB 3.0? DO you have the bootloader unlocked? Please answer these questions first, otherwise we can't help you much.

No. Like I said, I got excited and messed ip the steps. Instead of unlocking the phone I first tried to flash a ClockWorkMod recovery. While doing so., it tool a lot of time after showing the fastboot screen so I thought something was wrong so I disconnected the USB cable. Then I realised that I had to first unlock it so when I tried to unlock the device, instead of showing the fastboot screen my phone shows the screen whose picture I have posted in my earlier firts post. I use usb 2.0.
Please help
Hoy did you unlock? Did you register at htcdev.com for a key? Did you submit the identifier token? Try the exact procedure given here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2076675 and read everything. also the external links, to be sure to understand what you're doing. Then, do it without using a toolkit.

OK So now....

So now after a year of thinking I should root my phone, buying your book and then a week ago bricking myoff the phone I find myself here.
On the experts forum, where dreams are made and phones are fixed.
Only, there not.
I unlocked my phone installed twrp without installing superuser because twrp or unlocking switched off the wifi on my phone so twrp couldnt install superuser.
Since then I get this error
Failed to open usb master mode
[Preload] Failed to open usb master mode
loading PM35IMG.zip image...
Failed to open usb master mode
please plug off usb
I've unlocked it and re locked it with hasoon and tried to run an RUU, it tells me I need the RUU 2.17.206.3 I cant find it.
Ive got HBoot 1.72 at the moment, the phone wont switch off when charging, if indeed it is charging?
So I figure if its always had S-ON and there is an image file still there I must be able to boot that file and restore my phone?
My thoughts are to find the correct RUU am I right?
Oh and the phone now is not being recognised by the computer and adb cant see it because every time i plug it in it goes to fastboot.
Do I need to reunlock it?
Can anyone help me sort it out so I can experience the joys of custom roms and not the expense of a bricked phone?
And yep Im sorry I did run into it blind!
It's kinda cathartic, just used bat file to recharge and re unlock.
But Im still none the wiser.
Whatd do I need a ROM an RUU or a KERNEL?
I have that PM35IMG.ZIP

nabi2 trouble

heres wha i have done and my problem, sure hope theres some help an i havent broken it. Since FuHu has removed the updates i decided to give it a whir myself. I read and read on the nabi and differant ways to update, but none worked. Somehow i deleted the OS, but i figured no problem and found the xda site for the nabi stuff. I was able to install twrp 2.2.2, it wouldnt read the micros sd card, i up graded the twro to 2.8 version, everythig semed to work except the deggone "slide button" id recon youd call it. Back to the drawing board. I down loaded twrp 2.6 for the nabi and installed. Have no idea what went wrong, but now, i fire up the nabi, go into recovery kernal ( without being plugged into the pc ) it just sits there, when i plug the usb cable into nabi then the laptop, it automaticall connects to the driver, and goes to a screen that has,,
bootloader
continue
reboot-bootloader
reboot
power off
now if i press the vol - again it goes to a screen....
boot normally
fastboot protocol
recovery kernal
forced recovery
it just keep fliping back and forth betwen thos 2 screens,it shows connected on my laptop, but try to load anything and it says no device connected..
Truley baffeled,, any help is appreciated
Thank you
