[Q] Is it worth it... Inspire to Atrix? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have two Inspire 4G right now, and they're both rooted. Great phone, but I hear the Atrix is THE phone to have. Who has had both phones, and which worked better?
Edit: And if the Atrix *IS* the better phone, does anyone have an avenue I could go down, such as a website, where people trade phones?

Keep the inspire. owned both.

I currently have both phones but I'm going to return one in a week or so. I find myself going back to the Inspire more. Love the S-LCD, build quality, and Sense. I do like the.Atrix too. Like its camcorder, size, battery life... but I don't care for the actual display and MOTO blur isn't terrible, but sense is just more fluid and a better experience to me. It's a tough one, but I think.I prefer the inspire.

Is the Atrix faster? I know it has a better processor, but does it feel faster?
Sent from my Inspire 4G, using XDA premium.

For me its the Inspire 4G hands down. Rooted and romed it and it feels just as fast as the Atrix did.

There's not much difference in terms of performance. Since there isn't really anything on the market as of now that can fully utilize a dual core. Sense offers a lot better user experience IMHO

What about the screens? Is the Inspire's screen funky with such a lower pixel per inch count than the Atrix? (217 vs 275 by my calculations)
I'm pretty sure I'd miss flashing ROMs with the Atrix. Heaven knows I was a flashaholic with my FUZE when I first got it.

I only have an atrix, but going by what I've read the battery life is way better on the atrix.

I'm starting to get skeptical about all the battery threads. Usage models differ so much from user to user that you see everything from "I can't get my phone to run for more than 5 hours before it dies" to "My phone hasn't been on the charger in 2 days" in both the Atrix and Inspire forums.

Just going by what I've experienced,
Absolutely no problems with my Atrix in terms of the battery. Usually go 16-24 hours before hitting 30%.
My brother has the Inspire and literally carries his charger with him anywhere he goes.
I'd still take it with a grain of salt as each person seemingly has different battery experiences.

Help Decideing Between Thunderbolt or Iphone

Hey guys im a 5 time user of droid phones. Ive been extremely dispointed in Android so i left and am waiting for the Iphone. But the thunderbolt looks hot. Can someone give me any reasons to get the thunderbolt or iphone. It is tempting, and im a huge fan of sense ui. But the lack of apps kills me.
I can't wait for the Thunderbolt myself. Some of the things I am interested in with this phone compared to the iPhone are:
- 4g connectivity
- 4.3 inch screen
- 768MB of RAM (compared to 512 for iPhone)
- Higher resolution front and rear cameras
- Removable storage support
- Flash support
- Wifi media sync with Winamp app
Android has most every application I am looking for. Navigation is free too. I will admit I am still waiting for a few applications such as Netflix. I would much rather be on an open platform any day.
What applications are you looking for?
What lack of apps, for every iphone app there is an android app that does virtually the same thing.
It really comes down to this (in my opinion):
Which is more important, simplicity or customization?
My wife wants her phone to be simple as possible and thats why she loves the iphone.
Me on the other hand, hates the iphone because I can't do complex customization. I believe you should be able to change your notification tones without jailbreaking.
So if you want simplicity and just want stuff to work with as little intervention as possible, then the iphone is probaboly for you.
If you want to be able to customize the phone to tailor it more to you then android is the way to go.
Which driods have you used in the past? The Thunderbolt is basically the evo from sprint which is a very nice phone.

This is true for the average consumer. But there are HUGE (at least to me) differences between the Evo and the Thunderbolt.
The Thunderbolt has an S-LCD screen compared to the Evo's regular LCD screen.
Thunderbolt has the 2nd gen 45 nm Snapdragon processor with Adreno 205 gpu compared to the Evo's 65 nm 1st gen Snapdragon processor with Adreno 200 gpu. This means the Thunderbolt is faster, more responsive, drains less batteries, and has much better graphics power.
Thunderbolt has 768 mb of RAM compared to Evo's 512 mb. Self explanatory here.
Thunderbolt also has a new 8 MP camera that is DIFFERENT from the Evo's camera. It's suppose to be a lot better especially under low light situations.
Thunderbolt comes with Sense 2.0 while Evo has the outdated Sense.
Thunderbolt has SRS Dolby Surround Sound while Evo does not.
I think those are all of the main differences. But other than that, they're too different.
Edit: Woops I mean to say, other than that, they're the same. x)
Thanks for clearing that up hacker01
Thunderbolt or Iphone. Hmm what to choose... What to choose...

IPhone on Verizon will not do voice and data at the same time, iPhone does have a small screen but more pixels per inch making the screen look better. The thunderbolt has better battery life.
The nicest part about the iPhone is any idiot can use it. Bricking is almost impossible. And because there is no real multitasking its almost impossible to leave an app open and killing your battery (although I haven't had that problem since my Eris)
The final nice part about the iPhone is accessories are made for it cuz its so popular.
But with that said I have 7 friends that have the iPhone (literally 7 I'm not rounding) and all of them are jealous of basic android abilities like turn by turn GPS and how quickly gmail works and wireless backup and WIDGETS.
You loose a lot by going iPhone but you don't have to think when you use it.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I guess I should add the nice part about the iPhone is everybody has the same screen size and what not so making apps is pretty easy but that gives you less options

a really BIG deciding factor for me is battery life. android is known for having semi poor battery life depending on the phone (for me g1, nexus one). when i get the thunderbolt i wll definately be watching how my battery life is and if its poor then trust ill be getting the iphone. i would hate to leave android tho.
I am having the same dilemma...I want the thunderbolt but the LTE pricing is the deciding factor. And its really pissing me off that we are not getting any answers. Sprint and tmobile had pricing right away.

Man i keep going back and forth. The Iphone just has so many great applications, games etc. Ive had 5 android phone and all were the same. Just for browsing email and phone.....iphone is so much more complete.
I like to play games sometimes. And well android as only a few and the ones it has are old ports!!!
If it wasnt for the 4g i wouldnt even consider the thunderbolt. Im just afraid if i dont jump on the $30 unlimited now for the 4g data that it might change and then im screwed.

Same here...but Android is so much easier to Customise and replace Batteries . At some point there will iPhone for 4G and so the point of TB being 4G will beome moot. Just gonna sit tight and wait until September and see what is out there...perhaps a Bionic Phone?

Still Happy w/ Your Thunderbolt?

Hi guys,
I'm planning to upgrade to a TB hopefully
this weekend, but also considering the iphone.
I'm about 70/30 in favor of the TB
Just wanted to get your input and see if you
guys that already have your TB, used it, gotten
comfortable etc:
- Can you still say that you are happy w/ your
decision?
- any items that you dislike that you've discovered
from your daily use that you had not noticed before?
- build quality still holding up well?
Thanks for your time
I've had my bolt for about 2 months now and I am very pleased with it. I never had the reboot issues so that was a non factor. Battery life honestly isn't that bad. I can make it 12 hours which is enough.
That's probably largely due to rooting and installing custom ROMs, which is actually the biggest advantage. The developer support is massive on this device, at least matching what I was used to on the Incredible, which had some of the best dev support next to the Evo and Nexus devices.
Don't fret the lack of a dual core processor, I honestly thought I would but clocked at 1.4 I don't notice ANY lag. And honestly, having a slow network (IE not Verizon 4G) would cause far more noticeable slow down than not having a second processor.
Hope this helps!
Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt
I agree with all of the above. I've had mine about 2 months as well, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I briefly considered exchanging my TB for a Droid Charge, but the Charge dev support is virtually nonexistant, and I can't stand Touchwiz. I've had better battery life with other phones, but I routinely get 16-20 hrs on my TB and I have a couple of extra batteries, so the battery isn't an issue for me. Mine is slightly overclocked (1.4ghz) and the Sense UI is silky smooth, so even though it has a single core cpu, it handles everything I throw at it. As mentioned before, you'll appreciate the difference between 3G vs. 4G much more than single vs. dual core.

I agree too . I had iphones since first gen . Even when iPhone 4 came out I was talking smack bout Android phones . But I switched to Verizon from ATT and was debating either iPhone 4 again or thunder bolt . Picked the TB to test out . And gladly I say I made a good move that day . Great phone and puts the iPhone in the ditch .

I love it. Das BAMF just came out with 4 new rom versions under 24 hours.
Christmas in July.
But to answer "- Can you still say that you are happy w/ your

When I bought this phone I thought the kickstand was absolutely the dumbest thing I've ever seen on a phone. Fast forward three months and now if I look at a phone and it doesn't have a kickstand I wonder how the user is able to deal with it.
Mine did nothing but glitch and power off with factory flash. 1 week later I love it... running MR2.5, BAMF Stripped 2.1, and lots of apps.
Temptation
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is tempting to me. I personally think the device looks amazing.
I remember when a kickstand and a FFC were the big draws.
I even got a 3rd line on my account just so I could get this phone.
But with 3D phones, dual core processors and fancier UIs I'm a little bummed out about this phone. If it wasn't for BAMF I'd have probably just sulked until the next big thing. As you can see I don't wait long to jump on the newest device (BTW, the mythical Bionic and GS2 don't impress me so it might be a looooong wait ):
Droid 1 - 11/09 - 4/10
Droid Inc - 4/10 - 7/10
Droid X - 7/10 - 3/11
Thunderbolt - 3/11 - present
The thunderbolt is well beyond expectation. The 4G LTE network is literally 20 to 30 times faster than the iPhone's 3G network, there are a couple dozen ROMs to test, and Android is better than iOS.
Also, there's a kickstand on the Thunderbolt, how can you not love it? If you overclock to 1.4 GHz like many of us do, you will most likely notice no lag. If you're smart with your battery, and take steps to save it, you should be able to get 12+ hours with it, even with somewhat heavy internet use and even a few videos or games everyday.
I love my Thunderbolt.
I had read all about battery life issues but decided to go for it anyway.
No battery issues to speak of and after rooter and going to BAMF the battery is even better.
The 4G speed is outstanding where available. I get 5mbps around my area (Mountain View, CA) but when I go to San Francisco it hits 20mbps+. Doesn't seem to matter where in San Francisco I am either, speeds are always amazing.
I never thought I'd use the kickstand. I just thought it would be there.. but I use it all the time. I do wish you could charge the phone while using the kickstand.. this seems like a major screw up on the people who designed the phone.
The Thunderbolt is the best 4g option right now, if it were me I'd get it before 7/7 to get locked into the unlimited 4g. If 4g isn't something you care about then I'd say the Droid X or X2. I like my Thunderbolt but not as much as my X, the thunderbolt is lacking in build quality, Motorola have always had the best from my experience.
my friend had one, but he sold it allready and will never buy a htc again.
He told me, it was ok, but nothing special..
most older htc models sucks anyway, mostly because of their bad camera and clumsyness.
Still loving the Thunderbolt. While the charge has a nicer looking screen, I still prefer HTC and the Sense UI over any other UI
I went from an Incredible to the tbolt and its not a switch I've second guessed for a second. Had mine rooted the same day I got it. I don't see how an iFone holds a candle to the tbolt in any way.
appreciate everyone's response

I have 4 different emails setup all update just fine, the main issue with the bolt is htc and vzw screwed the pooch on the OS but the devs stepped up, it does have one of the largest group of devs working on it.
Bamf is runnin' my bolt - smoke that vzw!
One thing I really wish was different is the the location of usb port. I can't use the kickstand and and netflix at the same time, unless I'm lying on my side and have it kickstood portrait mode. I really think that the usb location should have been in between of the onoff button and 3.5 headset port. Tbh anywhere but the side it is now. =)
I love it. Rooted with a little love it is a very powerful device..stock is another story..

Can anyone help me clear my head?

Hello everyone, I have faithfully used my eris since its release and now that I have had an upgrade available for use for quite a while, i've been getting antsy. I really would like to get an htc phone for the sense experience (i use footprints quite often), but also really like the screen on the droid charge and the dual core-y goodness of the dx2 (but hate that terrible motoblur and locked bootloader). I want to wait for the bionic, but really dont want a motorola phone.
I live near detroit, so I do have 4g support in my area, but how much of a speed difference does that make? I realize numbers-wise, 4g is a huge difference, but in actual real world performance, is it necessary? I feel that I barely use my eris now that I have my xoom (wifi only) and the only reason I think I would use a 4g phone would be to tether it to my xoom. The biggest issue i see is verizon starting to crack down on tethering and that in a few months I will be out tethering and a phone I am not particularly fond of.
Basically what it comes down to is that right now, I use my eris for texting, calls, quick browsing (for at the store or wherever, when i dont have my xoom with me), and basic apps such as weather and alarms. I would like to think that if I got a 4g phone, I still wouldnt use it to the best of its abilities just because i enjoy the tablet experience my xoom brings; leaving me with a phone that I use for the same things I use my eris for, but with worse battery life and such. I have always wanted to get the most cutting edge tech, but right now (and hopefully for the next 2 years ) I cant justify getting a 4g phone just for the 4g capabilities.
TLDR: Knowing I have 4g in my area and a xoom, which phone would you recommend?
PS: How's that droid commando?
If you have a Tegra tablet, which you admittedly use a lot more than your Eris, I don't think you really need a dual-core phone that badly, unless you'll be gaming a lot on your new phone. I suggest either the Droid Charge or the Thunderbolt, with my preference being the Charge. Verizon's 4G LTE is a lot faster than 3G, you want to have it if it's available to you, and both the Thunderbolt and Droid Charge will feel as fast as light compared to your Eris. I like the Charge because it has better battery life and a great looking SAMOLED+ display, but if you're a big Sense/HTC fan, you might prefer the Thunderbolt.
I like Moto phones, but no need to settle for a locked bootloader and a dual-core (and Blur until root comes to strip it out) when you'll be fine with a single core and freedom.

Why not the Droid Incredible 2? It's not 4G or dual core, but it seems to have everything that you want otherwise.
I was definitely looking at the incredible 2, do u have any experience with it?
The reason i wasn't too sure about the current 4g offerings were my distrust of most samsung products (had a glyde a while back and it was horrible) and haven't really had many experiences with LG products (other than my original env) I wish verizon would get an htc device with sense 3.0, as that is a huge deal for me. If what i have read is correct, both the thunderbolt and the incredible 2 have had sense 3.0 ported to them, but aren't the fastest (please correct me if i am wrong).
Sense 3.0 stock devices coming to verizon soon would be awesome, but i haven't heard any yet.
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
No, I still own and use an Eris. However, based on your typical use, based on your doubts about needing 3G, based on your preference for HTC products with the Sense launcher, you may want to go into a store and play around with one.
Sorry i didn't reply for a bit, but i've decided to stick it out with my eris until the sgs2 or bionic (but i really want the sgs2) come out. I flashed back to a 2.1 rom and it has been (in my experience) a lot faster than the cm7 rom i was on, making me less irritated and less impatient for a new phone. Thanks for all the help tho everyone

The HTC Vigor has certainly peaked my interest lately since I really like HTC phones better over Motorola or Samsung.
Rumors are saying it will have a 4.3″ 720p HD screen (1280×720 resolution), with a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 8MP rear cam, 2MP front, Android 2.3.4 and will be similar in size and shape to the Thunderbolt, but without the kickstand.

[Q] Best HTC to replace Droid X2?

Okay, current Droid X2 user and tired of the crap from Motorola - lies about unlocking bootloaders, ICS upgrades and just plain ignoring my support requests.
So, now I'm looking for the best replacement for my Droid X2 on Verizon. I can't afford to switch from Verizon, so I'm pretty much stuck with them, but I don't have too much to complain, other than they are the "excuse" that Motorola uses as to why they haven't unlocked bootloaders, yet HTC seems to NOT have a problem.
So, my question is, which HTC phone is comparable to and/or better than the Droid X2 that has an unlocked bootloader on Verizon?
What is the current Android OS/Kernel version it is on AND has it been affirmed that it will get ICS if it doesn't already have it?
Which ones have the best developer support in the case of custom ROMs, etc? I definitely have my eye on CM9. Currently I run CM7 on my X2 and CM9 is on it's way, but I want an unlocked bootloader which guarantees that we can get a full-fledged ICS kernel.
Also, I love playing games, especially a lot from Gameloft, so I need the power to play the games.
I'm currently looking at the Rezound, but I wasn't sure if there was something else. I'm currently on 3G and I really don't want to give up my unlimited data plan to go to 4g, even though the VZW rep told me I'm grandfathered in and my 4g would be unlimited, which I think is a load of BS. I do stay under 2gb a month, though since I use WiFi wherever I can, especially at home.
Thanks for any help in this matter.
I came from the X2 about a month ago and love the Rezound. It takes a little getting used to the different language, at least it did for me. I would recommend it. I am currently on CleanRom GBE 1.6.5 SP1 with the incredikernel beta 4 test 1. I am enjoying this setup and will continue to play around with the other roms/kernels out there.
As for your unlimited plan, I am grandfathered into the unlimited data plan as well. I did not loose this by moving to a 4g phone. I don't think you have anything to worry about there. My wife just switched from the X to the Droid 4 and she still has her unlimited plan as well.
Hope this helps. Have blessed day!
I went from UL 3G to UL 4G with no problem, you don't have to worry about that.
Thanks guys.
Roman, as for performance, is it comparable to if not BETTER than the X2?
I'll go into a VZW store sometime to check it out as far as how it looks, but does it blow the X2 out of the water regarding performance and display? How about the sound when calling and talking with people? Are the music skips from the X2 gone?
Thanks!
Played with both and the Rez is a lot better than the X2 performance wise. Just a matter of opinion but it feels smoother and runs quicker for me
The display is gorgeous. 720p. With that said, it sucks battery like a vampire. HTC makes an extended battery, but it does add bulk to the phone. But I am fine with that. I went all day yesterday with thinking of plugging in and still had alot of battery left when I got home.

Performance is better. I was running CM7 on my X2 and could tell a difference in performance. 4g, screen resolution, and unlocked boot loader are what sold me.
As for the battery life, it is a bit of a hog. I just upgraded to the extended battery and like it. I actually like the added size/weight. It makes the phone easier to handle in my opinion.
I just noticed that they dropped the price online to $99! I would say at that price, this is a must have upgrade for you.
Just ordered a Rezound to replace my X2. Although I love all the latest work that they've been putting into cm7 and cm9 for the x2, I'm more than willing to jump ship to a great phone w/ 4g, not to mention a much better screen.

I agree 100%.
This is the first phone I have ever owned where the extended battery was this well integrated into the phone (I have 3 of them) & doesn't leave a huge bump on the back of it.
Using the HTCpedia cutout hard rubber case it seems like the way it came from the factory.

What is the battery life? I'm thinking of switching too, but I'd like a phone that makes it through a day with moderate use. My x2 with cm7 makes it most days with 40-45% left at the end of the work day (with the extended battery).

I came from the X2 to the Rez. This is the best phone, in my opinion, that Verizon has right now. Battery life can be good if you work on. Using the right ROM helps. I have an extended battery but never use it. The standard battery lasts me all day with relatively heavy use.

I'd say anything to replace the X2... X2 was complete and utter trash.
I think the rezound is the best phone on verizon right now, but the next gen are interesting in that the new chipsets will have lte onboard (no more extra radio). This should improve battery life when using lte. Not to mention quad core chips.
I'd at least wait until MWC to see what big announcements htc makes.
I'm guessing MWC phones won't come out until June or July. I'm thinking of adding a line to my account with the $100 rezound. Then I can use my upgrade on my main line next winter. CM7 has made the x2 tolerable, so I'm not 100% sure yet.

Just get the rezzy and if something better comes up that you must have buy it full retail and sell the rez.
If you purchase an extended battery, you are easily gonna make it through the day. On stock with a standard battery, before I unlocked it and loaded a ROM, I was able to get through the day with texting all day and browsing during lunch. I also had everything to sync immediately or when I unlocked the device.
If you unlock it and load a ROM, you open the potential for even better usage. But its not a guarantee. Depending on your usage it may vary. But you will be fine if you decide to get a extended battery.
As far as preferences, I am glad that I decided to go with HTC. The only other Droids I owned before this were Motorola (OG Droid and the original Droid X). Honestly I can't imagine going back to Motorola. I know Sense is an acquired taste, but I like the look of it and the phone runs smooth.

What is the battery life? I'm thinking of switching too, but I'd like a phone that makes it through a day with moderate use. My x2 with cm7 makes it most days with 40-45% left at the end of the work day (with the extended battery).

If you go to the accessories page for ReZound, you can find the extended battery review thread.

Trading photon for a Galaxy Nexus, good move?

Anybody got some advise? Pros cons?

can't go wrong with a nexus.
IMO, good move if it is a GSM galaxy nexus. OK move if it is a sprint and you are in a LTE area.
Photon has an advantage in which you can use it on any carrier except verizon. That give alot of flexibility.
Signal sucks on the Nexus. Photon has the strongest radios. Nexus is arguably the weakest.
Being an Android addict, even though I'm with Verizon, I must give my two cents. I've had substantial experience with both phones as I have my buddys Photon and I have a Nexus as a backup to my S3. The Photon doesn't even compare, especially if your looking for ROMs. Motorola has totally dropped the ball lately and the Photon is giant proof of that. Get the Nexus, you will not be disappointed.

Holding the actual phone goes a long way. For me, nexus phones feel like cheap toys that will suicide if dropped. Photon feels like a purpose built device. Ive come to love the radios in my photon, as well as the seperate charge hdmi ports. I usually mod an hack the hell out of phones...i dont feel the need to with the photon. Having a phone that doesnt feel like my nieces barbie phone is great. Think it over.....

I switched to a gnex and couldn't be happier. Jelly bean is awesome and the development support for it is second to none. Battery life blows away my photon, and no more worrying about locked bootloaders and Motorola being trolls.

what nexus are you talking about? ill agree the nexus s was a plasticy hunk of crap, but the galaxy nexus is very solidly built. since i got my extended battery free from sprint (two of them to be exact ) i like the feel of it in my hand even more.
the photon community has more than tripled than when i first found it and i am very happy for you guys, i loved my photon like no other but i would definetly have to say my gnexus has stolen my heart. despite not being a true AOSP device (sprints gnexus is the only one without binaries or source code in AOSP), we were able to get jellybean working damn near flawlessly within a day of google I/O, our biggest setback? MMS. now that we have source we have a bunch of jellybean based roms that are all flawless.
Pros:
Newest software updates well in advance of OTA's
Future proofing yourself with LTE
Bigger screen
Free extended battery if you act quickly
Slight performance bump
Unlockable bootloader
Color control (dont like how samoled is super saturated? change the color tuning to how you like )
there is a lot of kernel work out there and a handful of roms (i say handful cuz we have all the big ones CM, AOKP, CNA, AOSP, MIUI etc etc)
Cons:
Lose webtop (you can buy an MHL adapter and mirror, but none of teh fancy webtop stuff )
You'll be stuck on 3G for a while (assuming you have wimax now)
You'll lose Motoblur
im sure there is more im forgetting but i cant remember at this time
I may be a little biased. Not a fan of the samsung phones. The plasticky feel/look is such a turn off an the radios ive experienced with the few phones ive had in hand were atrocious. These threads are all about personal opinion. No one answer is right. OP, go physically use both for as long as you can. We ultimately cant decide whats attractive to you. Hands on/time spent is the best way. And if you cant decide, hands off an wait till something comes up that does blow your skirt up

I have used GN one month and returned to Photon, it was not worth the money for that. It would be good upgrade from Defy, maybe Atrix (screen size) or something with one core cpu, but not from Photon. Just my opinion. I am waiting for Droid RAZR HD.
I moved from the photon to the nexus and don't regret it. Idk why others are bashing the radio. I've always felt photon had the best radios but I honestly can't tell the difference in signal strength between the two. I also have an e4gt and that had a horrible radio. Traded it out for another e4gt and same issue. Tried the g3 and it was slightly better but not anywhere close to the gnex and photon.
Battery life is better
Screen quality is better
Design is PERFECT! feels amazing to hold and look at
Speed is obvious just check out the specs. Ive overclocked to 1.8 once and ran buttery smooth. Went back to 1.2 for battery life.
I can't think of a reason not to move to the nexus.

First of all in my home there are a Photon / GNex(not always, friend phone) / E4GT and I notice something about them, people claim Photon has better radio (partial true imo) and Samsung GNex or E4GT weak one (partial true), in Photon it always shows full signal no matter if there is good or bad coverage but when you connect a call it shows the real signal strength ex. 2-3Bars same as the Sammy devices are showing with or w/o a call so IMHO is just a placebo effect on Photon.
And for OP go GNex you won't regret.
Or maybe Photon Q (I'm getting it for my wife).
