Help Decideing Between Thunderbolt or Iphone - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys im a 5 time user of droid phones. Ive been extremely dispointed in Android so i left and am waiting for the Iphone. But the thunderbolt looks hot. Can someone give me any reasons to get the thunderbolt or iphone. It is tempting, and im a huge fan of sense ui. But the lack of apps kills me.

I can't wait for the Thunderbolt myself. Some of the things I am interested in with this phone compared to the iPhone are:
- 4g connectivity
- 4.3 inch screen
- 768MB of RAM (compared to 512 for iPhone)
- Higher resolution front and rear cameras
- Removable storage support
- Flash support
- Wifi media sync with Winamp app
Android has most every application I am looking for. Navigation is free too. I will admit I am still waiting for a few applications such as Netflix. I would much rather be on an open platform any day.
What applications are you looking for?

What lack of apps, for every iphone app there is an android app that does virtually the same thing.

It really comes down to this (in my opinion):
Which is more important, simplicity or customization?
My wife wants her phone to be simple as possible and thats why she loves the iphone.
Me on the other hand, hates the iphone because I can't do complex customization. I believe you should be able to change your notification tones without jailbreaking.
So if you want simplicity and just want stuff to work with as little intervention as possible, then the iphone is probaboly for you.
If you want to be able to customize the phone to tailor it more to you then android is the way to go.

Which driods have you used in the past? The Thunderbolt is basically the evo from sprint which is a very nice phone.

This is true for the average consumer. But there are HUGE (at least to me) differences between the Evo and the Thunderbolt.
The Thunderbolt has an S-LCD screen compared to the Evo's regular LCD screen.
Thunderbolt has the 2nd gen 45 nm Snapdragon processor with Adreno 205 gpu compared to the Evo's 65 nm 1st gen Snapdragon processor with Adreno 200 gpu. This means the Thunderbolt is faster, more responsive, drains less batteries, and has much better graphics power.
Thunderbolt has 768 mb of RAM compared to Evo's 512 mb. Self explanatory here.
Thunderbolt also has a new 8 MP camera that is DIFFERENT from the Evo's camera. It's suppose to be a lot better especially under low light situations.
Thunderbolt comes with Sense 2.0 while Evo has the outdated Sense.
Thunderbolt has SRS Dolby Surround Sound while Evo does not.
I think those are all of the main differences. But other than that, they're too different.
Edit: Woops I mean to say, other than that, they're the same. x)

Thanks for clearing that up hacker01
Thunderbolt or Iphone. Hmm what to choose... What to choose...

IPhone on Verizon will not do voice and data at the same time, iPhone does have a small screen but more pixels per inch making the screen look better. The thunderbolt has better battery life.
The nicest part about the iPhone is any idiot can use it. Bricking is almost impossible. And because there is no real multitasking its almost impossible to leave an app open and killing your battery (although I haven't had that problem since my Eris)
The final nice part about the iPhone is accessories are made for it cuz its so popular.
But with that said I have 7 friends that have the iPhone (literally 7 I'm not rounding) and all of them are jealous of basic android abilities like turn by turn GPS and how quickly gmail works and wireless backup and WIDGETS.
You loose a lot by going iPhone but you don't have to think when you use it.

I guess I should add the nice part about the iPhone is everybody has the same screen size and what not so making apps is pretty easy but that gives you less options

a really BIG deciding factor for me is battery life. android is known for having semi poor battery life depending on the phone (for me g1, nexus one). when i get the thunderbolt i wll definately be watching how my battery life is and if its poor then trust ill be getting the iphone. i would hate to leave android tho.

I am having the same dilemma...I want the thunderbolt but the LTE pricing is the deciding factor. And its really pissing me off that we are not getting any answers. Sprint and tmobile had pricing right away.

SUCKS is hardly a word I'd use. It is adequate. With a much bigger screen which is more important IMO.

Man i keep going back and forth. The Iphone just has so many great applications, games etc. Ive had 5 android phone and all were the same. Just for browsing email and phone.....iphone is so much more complete.
I like to play games sometimes. And well android as only a few and the ones it has are old ports!!!
If it wasnt for the 4g i wouldnt even consider the thunderbolt. Im just afraid if i dont jump on the $30 unlimited now for the 4g data that it might change and then im screwed.

Same here...but Android is so much easier to Customise and replace Batteries . At some point there will iPhone for 4G and so the point of TB being 4G will beome moot. Just gonna sit tight and wait until September and see what is out there...perhaps a Bionic Phone?

Is the thunderbolt worth it or just wait for the Droid Bionic?

Title says it all. What do you guys think?
I love my Tbolt, and I love that I got it at a time where I am grandfathered into unlimited data, which I would not have been had I waited for the Bionic.
And what feature are you waiting to get from Bionic that TBolt can't already do?
I bet the Bionic will be more of a pain in the ass to root...will prob have an even more locked down bootloader
Having owned the Atrix... the QHD display is really a deal breaker for me. It was really washed out, couldnt draw the color yellow at all, and was VERY pixelated. Not to mention its an even bigger screen than the Atrix, so it will be worse.
Not a chance id buy it.

And have you actually tested Bionic so you can confirm this?
On a side note my Bolt lasts me 12+ hours for the last 4 days, my normal use.
I was thinking of waiting, but went for the Thunderbolt. I usually wait a few months before getting a newly released phone, but wanted to make sure I got unlimited data on 4G. Other than the network being a little fickle on 4G, I have no complaints. Development for this phone is moving pretty quickly!

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you have got to be kidding me. that thing is dual core. what in god's name makes anybody believe its battery life will be better? if you know engineering and hardware, you will know that unless motorola has unearthed the elixir of battery life, its simply not physically possible. maybe thats why their battery size is bigger. and by the way, good luck trying to run anything except what verizon and motorola want you to run on that with locked and encrypted bootloaders - keep dreaming about CM7 and MIUI.... finally i had an x for a day - nice hardware but horrrrrrrrendous UI compared to sense. no thanks, its htc for me - tried true and tested
For one i think the dual core is wat is makeing me wait. Anyone think its worth it? Also i think the stock rom on it looks amazing. Just juice defender and im set.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
more cores just mean running more processes at "full" speed at the same time. I don't know about you but I rarely render 3d graphics and run matlab on my phone.
multi core cell phones are just a selling point in my opinion.
My opinion... HTC > Moto. I like HTC's hardware designs better. Love the look and feel of HTC devices.
I also hate Moto for locking down bootloaders like crazy, but it looks like HTC may be joining these ranks soon as well. I cannot deny that Moto has some nice specs on their devices... but the Thunderbolt is no slouch.
My TB gets great battery life running stock. It will be even better with root, custom kernel, and custom ROMs. You really cannot go wrong. The development for this device is awesome.
Since my introduction in the Android world Ive had nothing but HTC devices. I don't care for hard buttons so most of the Motorola devices are out for me. Plus, with HTC I can root and run aosp toms as well as Sense. Win win.

That thing has 2 cores and total of 512MB of RAM. Android OS is not even optimized for dual core hardware, not to mention that the amount of RAM could be a choking point for anything from Web browsing flash content to gaming.
No thanks.

I second this... I have mine since launch the only thing I changed was the brightness, which i set at 30% as opposed to automatic. Since then, I my TB battery has given me 12+ hrs, with my normal use. The people who complain about the battery must have their gps turned on while surfing 4G all day.

Are u reffering to the inc2. Do do you think the thunderbilt would be my best choice?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Yup, the brightness did it for me as well.
unless you are trying to do linear programming on your phone, i see no point in a dual core phone. i do believe all tablets should be dual or quad core though because they replace PCs - your phone is meant to be held next to your ear and do some simple things like calendar, email etc, do video chat and so on. this is a communication device primarily - screen real estate is too small to be of much use beyond that. also consider motorola's pathetic laptop dock - does anybody think they want that? there is nothing you can do on that. convergence my rear end.
I don't have any experience with Motorola because I am a flash junkie and I don't want to be stuck with a locked bootloader and Motoblur overlay. My first Android was an HTC G1 and my only experience venturing away from HTC was the Samsung Vibrant, and although I learned a lot about flashing, after six months of not having an AOSP rom because Samsung would not release source, I gave up and got another HTC device. I'll stick with HTC, thanks.

Still Happy w/ Your Thunderbolt?

Hi guys,
I'm planning to upgrade to a TB hopefully
this weekend, but also considering the iphone.
I'm about 70/30 in favor of the TB
Just wanted to get your input and see if you
guys that already have your TB, used it, gotten
comfortable etc:
- Can you still say that you are happy w/ your
decision?
- any items that you dislike that you've discovered
from your daily use that you had not noticed before?
- build quality still holding up well?
Thanks for your time
I've had my bolt for about 2 months now and I am very pleased with it. I never had the reboot issues so that was a non factor. Battery life honestly isn't that bad. I can make it 12 hours which is enough.
That's probably largely due to rooting and installing custom ROMs, which is actually the biggest advantage. The developer support is massive on this device, at least matching what I was used to on the Incredible, which had some of the best dev support next to the Evo and Nexus devices.
Don't fret the lack of a dual core processor, I honestly thought I would but clocked at 1.4 I don't notice ANY lag. And honestly, having a slow network (IE not Verizon 4G) would cause far more noticeable slow down than not having a second processor.
Hope this helps!
Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt
I agree with all of the above. I've had mine about 2 months as well, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I briefly considered exchanging my TB for a Droid Charge, but the Charge dev support is virtually nonexistant, and I can't stand Touchwiz. I've had better battery life with other phones, but I routinely get 16-20 hrs on my TB and I have a couple of extra batteries, so the battery isn't an issue for me. Mine is slightly overclocked (1.4ghz) and the Sense UI is silky smooth, so even though it has a single core cpu, it handles everything I throw at it. As mentioned before, you'll appreciate the difference between 3G vs. 4G much more than single vs. dual core.

I agree too . I had iphones since first gen . Even when iPhone 4 came out I was talking smack bout Android phones . But I switched to Verizon from ATT and was debating either iPhone 4 again or thunder bolt . Picked the TB to test out . And gladly I say I made a good move that day . Great phone and puts the iPhone in the ditch .

I love it. Das BAMF just came out with 4 new rom versions under 24 hours.
Christmas in July.
But to answer "- Can you still say that you are happy w/ your

When I bought this phone I thought the kickstand was absolutely the dumbest thing I've ever seen on a phone. Fast forward three months and now if I look at a phone and it doesn't have a kickstand I wonder how the user is able to deal with it.
Mine did nothing but glitch and power off with factory flash. 1 week later I love it... running MR2.5, BAMF Stripped 2.1, and lots of apps.
Temptation
The Samsung Galaxy S2 is tempting to me. I personally think the device looks amazing.
I remember when a kickstand and a FFC were the big draws.
I even got a 3rd line on my account just so I could get this phone.
But with 3D phones, dual core processors and fancier UIs I'm a little bummed out about this phone. If it wasn't for BAMF I'd have probably just sulked until the next big thing. As you can see I don't wait long to jump on the newest device (BTW, the mythical Bionic and GS2 don't impress me so it might be a looooong wait ):
Droid 1 - 11/09 - 4/10
Droid Inc - 4/10 - 7/10
Droid X - 7/10 - 3/11
Thunderbolt - 3/11 - present
The thunderbolt is well beyond expectation. The 4G LTE network is literally 20 to 30 times faster than the iPhone's 3G network, there are a couple dozen ROMs to test, and Android is better than iOS.
Also, there's a kickstand on the Thunderbolt, how can you not love it? If you overclock to 1.4 GHz like many of us do, you will most likely notice no lag. If you're smart with your battery, and take steps to save it, you should be able to get 12+ hours with it, even with somewhat heavy internet use and even a few videos or games everyday.
I love my Thunderbolt.
I had read all about battery life issues but decided to go for it anyway.
No battery issues to speak of and after rooter and going to BAMF the battery is even better.
The 4G speed is outstanding where available. I get 5mbps around my area (Mountain View, CA) but when I go to San Francisco it hits 20mbps+. Doesn't seem to matter where in San Francisco I am either, speeds are always amazing.
I never thought I'd use the kickstand. I just thought it would be there.. but I use it all the time. I do wish you could charge the phone while using the kickstand.. this seems like a major screw up on the people who designed the phone.
The Thunderbolt is the best 4g option right now, if it were me I'd get it before 7/7 to get locked into the unlimited 4g. If 4g isn't something you care about then I'd say the Droid X or X2. I like my Thunderbolt but not as much as my X, the thunderbolt is lacking in build quality, Motorola have always had the best from my experience.
my friend had one, but he sold it allready and will never buy a htc again.
He told me, it was ok, but nothing special..
most older htc models sucks anyway, mostly because of their bad camera and clumsyness.
Still loving the Thunderbolt. While the charge has a nicer looking screen, I still prefer HTC and the Sense UI over any other UI
I went from an Incredible to the tbolt and its not a switch I've second guessed for a second. Had mine rooted the same day I got it. I don't see how an iFone holds a candle to the tbolt in any way.
appreciate everyone's response

Wow that is how I felt. I thought phones with kickstands were absolutely DUMB. Now after having the TBolt for a few weeks I can't see how I ever lived without one haha. I LOVE this phone. The build quality is awesome. It's not scary to put down and handle like the iPhone 4 (glass cell phone....really? idiots!!!). The only thing I'm not huge on is battery life but I got the extended 2750mAhbattery so it all works out! Screw the locked down garden of iOS and get the TBolt!!

I have 4 different emails setup all update just fine, the main issue with the bolt is htc and vzw screwed the pooch on the OS but the devs stepped up, it does have one of the largest group of devs working on it.
Bamf is runnin' my bolt - smoke that vzw!
One thing I really wish was different is the the location of usb port. I can't use the kickstand and and netflix at the same time, unless I'm lying on my side and have it kickstood portrait mode. I really think that the usb location should have been in between of the onoff button and 3.5 headset port. Tbh anywhere but the side it is now. =)
I love it. Rooted with a little love it is a very powerful device..stock is another story..

Want to buy the Evo3d...maybe. plz help.

Well long time no see XDA Dev's!
i was here ages ago when i had the touch diamond phone, wich is garbage
im now in posession of a iphone 4, but in 1 month i can choose a new phone.
So my eyes are all focussed on the HTC Evo 3d, but also on the samsung 3d phone.
dont think i didnt do my research. i spend 4 hours today watching and seeing reviews and battle's of the phones.
What ive learned, and i really would like your opinion of this list to see if its correct or lies...(and ive never touched one of the phones ever)
-The evo3d does not have alot of depth? (how is it compared to the 3ds?)
-The evo3d falls behind in benchmarks and games compared to the optimus 3d?
so what do you think about this?
Secondly, i really do like the design of the evo3d. the design of the optimus is a bit crappy IMO.
And maybe one of you guys know wich phone will have smoother browsing and games playing?(planning on buying some 3d games.)
and the specs online...
some say the evo has 4gb of internal memory...other say its 1gb.
some say it can only make 2MP 3d pictures. others say 5MP. (and if they are 2mp cant it be hacked?)
and finally ive read that the optimus 3d does NOT has multitouch while the evo has...is that true?
and is it possible to rip the 3d menu of the optimus and put it on the evo3d? that would probaly help me in making a purchase descision, lol!
And are the browsers, menu's ect smooth? because i come from a iphone...and iphone is 100% smoothness. no lag whatsoever.
Thanks for your time! i will also make this topic on the optimus3d side...so i will learn as much as possible

The depth is good I think, some pictures/videos better then others. But i think much better then the 3ds. That thing gives me a major headache turning the 3D all the way up. Never had that problem with my phone. I actually enjoy the 3D and hasn't faded away like I thought it would.
It does have 4gb of internal but Sense takes up about 3 of it so we are left with 1, which is still plenty.
I never heard if the 5mp vs 2mp but i haven't noticed. The camera is very nice in both 2D and 3D. And the camera button is actually very nice, I wasn't too exited about it at first but fi d it very useful.
And as for the smoothness, I haven't witnessed any lag at all so far. It's very smooth and I have dominated my buddies iPhone 4 with my 3D several times.
I know a lot of ppl have their complains, and bringing them back, but i can't complain about it. I love this phone and is with out a doubt the best phone I have ever had and used

I have play with both phones, and owned a iPhone 4 for a good time, yet the LG phones has higher benckmarks but in reaility doesn't mean much , just to let you know gingerbread update wich is what is the EVO running is no taking advantage on the duel cores yet, been said that i think the EVO 3d is for you, HTC sense does take ablot space but is make for the new user in mind you won't have trouble at all coming from the iPhone , battery life in Android is no as good as the iPhone but the EVO 3D doesn't have a bad battery life tho, keyboard the comes with the 3d is really good multitouch but iphones still better by hair lol, and the browser is really good and matches to the iPhone as well, camera you will miss it, no for nothing.but the sensor on the iPhone 4 is the best one in the states, the screen being bigger you will ask yourself how come apple haven't done this yet, so much better to read and watch videos , and if you like browse the web in your phone you will love it, I think the 3D is a better customer experience and you will have a blast from it, I have some friends the I convince to get some great Android phones and they love it so far, apps are getting much better now that what it was a year ago and they take less space then ios apps do so don't freak out with 1gb of memory you still have a SD card to tansfer your apps too and can upgrade to 32 gb SD card , I hope this helps on your decision

hmm can you take some photo's and see how many pixels they are so we know the resolution?
if you turn the 3ds all the way up, and look at a 3d game on your evo3d? wich has more depth? ofcource the 3ds got crap resolution, i already know that
Guess it depends on just what it is your looking for in a phone. Being as your coming frome a iPhone 4 I guess it comes down to Android/HTC Sense vs iOS. Because hardware wise you won't see any improvement. Actually it's really a downgrade from the iPhone 4 which has a better screen, better camera, and battery life. Also way more apps and a better gaming experience. Only thing the 3D has over it would be the larger screen and the 3D feature which is gimmicky IMO. The dual core doesn't come into play because Gingerbread nor any Android apps utilize it. Now OS wise I would have to give the edge to Android with it being more open and easier to customize than iOS which is why I love it. Now in the case of the 3D that openness won't be on display until it gets full root/S-Off/unlocked bootloader/custom kernels but that is coming eventually. So I guess you have to decide whether you want to stick with iOS or Android. The 3D while a great phone right now isn't the phone that really shows off what Android can do when compared to iOS. Now when they finally break the shackles that HTC/Sprint put on it and hang around here a little longer, than you will see what Android/3D really has to offer. Then again it looks like Apple stole a bunch of things from Android and put it into the new iOS 5 and from the rumors the iPhone 5 looks to be a beast spec-wise so maybe you should wait around for that to drop.
I have to disagree with a lot of what Klbjr said.
First, lets throw away the iPhone 5 comments. To compare a theoretical phone that isn't even on the market to a phone that actually is doesn't really work.
Second, I've used iPhone 4's before as I support them at a place I work and the speed issues that supposedly Android suffers are a load. A lot of the "lag" that people talk about comes from widgets that have dynamic screens and auto-update from the web/data connection. So there can be hesitation from that. If you make your screens completely static like an iPhone, just about any 1Ghz Android phone will run just as smooth. I know there will be a bunch of knuckleheads that will challenge that statement, but I'm speaking from experience and actual real-world trials and not the view of a fanboy. The Evo 3D can run circles around the iPhone 4 performance wise.
The cameras. Yes, the iPhone's mono-lens camera is better. Apple did it right there and they put in a quality lens. However, the Evo 3D's cameras are pretty decent if you know how to use them and take a few minutes to understand the settings. It seems the "auto" settings cause more problems than not for people.
Now, that being said, if you are going to try to become a professional photographer with your cell phone then by all means, stick with the iPhone. I don't think you will last long in the professional photography world, but that's just my guess.
As far as HTC Sense goes, people tend to love it or hate it. Personally, I really like a lot of the features and the look of Sense. Klbjr obviously hates it. So I would say you should go to a Sprint store and check it out. Make sure you like it first. Play with the features, try the things you are interested in trying, and see what you think after hearing all the feedback and getting some hands on experience.

What were you reading? Apparently nothing I said! I didn't compare anything to the iPhone 5. My actual words were if you listen to the RUMORS the iPhone 5 looks like a beast spec-wise! All of my comparisons were with his current phone THE IPHONE 4! Never metioned anything about lag because I didn't notice any with the 3D. I speak also from owning and comparing both phones! Now you show me were the 3D runs circles around the iPhone 4. I said they were on par with each other. I'm no fanboy of either phone or OS. If anything I would be accused of being a fanboy of HTC and Android. The 3D was my 8th HTC phone & my 5th Android phone of which 3 were made by HTC. Also I've always been a fan of Sense. Never liked AOSP/CM ROMS. Now to get back to what I actually said and not the BS you said, the iPhone 4 does have a better screen in every aspect, except for slightly larger size & the fact the 3D can view 3D movies/pics. You spoke about the camera so no need to go there & battery life isn't a argurment. I don't care which ROM/kernel you run on any Android phone it still won't give you the battery life that people get with the iPhone 4. The only time I got anywhere close was when using my 3500 Seidio with SBC kernel on my Evo. But none of that is stock. So its not a fair comparison. About the only thing you did get right was telling him to go into a store & try it out as this seems to be his first venture into the world of Android & decide for himself. I prefer Android over iOS for my own reasons, he may have other reasons. I have seen iPhone users come over to Android & love it & vice versa. It's all up to personal preferences. But even being a over a year old, the iPhone 4 is still at the top of the list performance wise when compared to current phones on the market.

i do like my iphone 4's screen ALOT. before the iphone 4 i had the 3gs wich was huge screen upgrade. but will since apple broke their routine of a new iphone each year at desame time, im looking at android. i didnt purchase to many apps so switching is not hard. but im wondering if the downgrade of the screen is going to be big? i mean i ofcource like my iphone 4's screen vs the 3gs. but the screen of the optimus and evo3d are also still alot better then the 3gs. i also like my ipad2's screen(dpi). if the evo3d and the optimus3d got a fair amount of more dpi i probaly dont really mind the downgrade.
Next the iphone4's camera. yes, i love the quality of colors ect this thing makes. but im a sucker for functionality. 3d photo's man...thats super cool. but i do like quality. if the photo's are somewhere near the iphone 4thats okay already. i just dont want pixelated photo's like the 3ds makes haha.
the thing i really am afraid of is the evo3d getting ****. ive heard alot bad stuff about it even on this forum...returned because of dead pixels, bugs, flaws...i also heard the optimus3d is faster because it has the cortex9 instead of the older cortex8.
Things i like alot about the evo3d is its sense menu...i loved that way back on my touch diamond(although the touch diamond is garbage), its design, its led for notification about email and texts, and ofcource its 3d.
but well everyone says i need to choose the optimus over the evo3d for its 3d screen. i dont really care about the 3d games and menu's right now because maybe the menu of the optimus3d can be ripped out in the future...but else i also believe the markerplace will be slowly filled up with 3d goodies. i want to know the sweet spot of the 3d games...can i use it with accelerometer driving, wont the effect be ****ty when i have 2 thumbs on the screen when playing NOVA...and it seems everyone thinks and says the optimus3d got more depth then the evo3d.
about the optimus3d i like that it seems to be alot faster because its a cortex9...it has 8gb memory build in wich is a nice extra, and well again...the 3d is better. and ofcource the menu...but i hope its going to be ripped sometime so the htc evo3d users can have it as well...
It seems like the comments display the pros of the iPhone over the e3d but not visa versa..ok..the screen on the iPhone is a higher resolution..but the EVO is almost an inch larger amd has 3d capability. The iphone 4 has basically the same chipset as the gs1 and while a good soc it can't hold a candle to the 8660..it just can't..camera..well ill give that to you..but only in lower light situations..I take great pictures in daylight.. e3d has 4G, iPhone can keep dreaming..also unless.your jail broke you will pay for all your music games etc..I have great music apps where u dont pay a dime for any songs. I'm not gonna debate the ios vs android thing..I'm a fan of android obviously..but I don't believe anyone can say that the iphone 4 and e3d are equal in terms of hardware..the power of the dual core will become apparent eventually. All phones have bugs/quirks at launch and they will be ironed out.
Now I have no experience with the LG optimus 3d ..it seems nice but i wouldn't buy an LG phone ..I know benchmarks on the LG seem better but that really isn't a good Indication of user experience and more of an indication of the flaws of said benchmarks. Either way you can't go wrong..like one of the above comments said ,go and play with them and decide for yourself. There is a YouTube video which is a dogfight between the two ..I recommend watching it

I have no anger or hate. It had nothing to do with whether or not you agreed or disagreed. I made my post to help the OP in his decision on whether or not to get the 3D and how I thought it compared to his current phone. But I do hate it when people misread my posts, take what they want from them and then twist it, to come up with their own speculations. Case in point how you said that I compared the 3D to the iPhone 5 which I never did because there is no iPhone 5 yet. All we have are rumors. I compared his iPhone 4 to the 3D. Or how you come to the conclusion that I must hate Sense when that is farthest from the truth and nothing in my post even mentioned or compared Sense. So as you can see it has nothing to do with my ego. The OP can take my advice or yours. Doesn't hurt me one bit, but when you supposedly quote me, quote me correctly and not with your own BS assumptions.

I also did note that when comparing the screens the 3D had the edge in screen size and the 3D capability. I did forget to mention the 4G capability but it slipped my mind because of my own use of it which is never. I live in a 4G area, right outside Philly. I even have neighbors who have Clear as their ISP but my 4G has always been spotty at best. On the Og Evo & 3D. Plus it is a battery killer so I never use it much. The OP may have better results. Can't really get into the music/app thing because with torrents/newsgroups anyone can get free music/apps. That's not really relative to the phones. The camera on the 3D while being better than the OG Evo and ok for a phone still doesn't come close to the iPhone 4's. You are also correct that right now on paper the 8660 beats the iPhone along with every other phone on the market now, but benchmarks don't count for anything. It's about real world performance and the iPhone 4 is just as quick and responsive as the 3D. Like others have said, the dual core counts for nothing at this point because we don't have anything that actually utilizes it and in most scenarios the iPhone will fair better because it has hardware acceleration something that Google hasn't gotten around to yet.

Fair enough..everyone has a right to their opinion..but i do believe if u put sense 3.0 on the iphone 4 it would struggle and lag just like a lot of phones do..ios is streamlined and simple..if you enjoy that that's great..and if it doesn't change much the new iPhone won't really need extra power..
What about htc sense...can it be ripped and installed on another android phone?

Yup but is no a easy task unlike Android that is completely open (since Google releases the code to everyone ) HTC sense is no release (just like ios ) and developers have to guess with code and it won't be as smooth

That's actually to male apps and it doesn't give you the base, is an sdk to make apps just like the one for ios the apple provides , cyanogen tweet it about that too
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
Has sense been port/ripped to another non-htc android device before?
Maybe there are alternatives with desame look?
carrier unlocking
hi guys... im sorry if i am asking this question in wrong thread!!!
actually i'm too impressed with htc evo 3d's specifications as well as from the reviews by its users...as this phone is not released all over the world, i'm thinking to buy it online from US...but as the phone is associated with sprint, If i buy this phone would i be able to carrier unlock the phone by updating to custom rom or any other ways ????
thankx...

Sorry but that would be a no. From my understanding Sprint uses CDMA & no SIM card so you just can't unlock & swap SIMs like you can with GSM phones. I heard they may be releasing a 3D or something similar, to European carriers, as seeing the 3D is supposedly a Sprint exclusive. You could try the Sensation, it is pretty much the same phone just minus the 3D capabilities & 768MB of RAM as opposed to 1GB in the 3D. The only carriers I've ever heard of people being able to port over to Sprint phones were Cricket Wireless & Metro PCS, but they are also US carriers.

RAZR, iPhone4S or Galaxy Nexus?

Ive decided to get a new phone (Well, actually my HTC decided for me by having its touchscreen die) but I'm not entirely sure what to get.
(The part that sucks about this, is all the new quadcore phones and iPhone 5 coming soon/later this year)
The Galaxy Note was just too big, so I've narrowed it down to the Galaxy Nexus, Moto RAZR and iphone4S. How have you found the GN to be? Is there anything I should keep in mind?
The RAZR and the GN have pretty much the same GPU/CPU combo, but the GN has a better screen, right? For those of you who have tried both, is there a major visible difference between the GN screen and the screen on the RAZR?
(Yes, I've heard all about the Pentile display, but it doesn't really bother me on the RAZR. I tried as hard as I can, and I can't tell the difference. Probably because the resolution is so high...)
The thing that's holding me back from the GN is the camera. I've heard that its fast, but not very good (Esp. compared to the iPhones camera) and at 5MP the resolution is pretty small these days.
The RAZR is kinda tempting because of all the accessories (Lapdock etc,) the ultra thin design, 8MP camera (Thou I've heard the quality is so-so) and being expandable up to 48 GB. But how is the camera on the RAZR? I've noticed it shoots pretty fast, but how does it compare quality wise?
I'm trying to keep ICS out of the equation, since the RAZR will have it soon.
And then theres the iPhone. I've heard the camera is awesome on it, it has a GPU that still can't be beat by any Android phone, and Apple is really awesome with providing updates quick, and for a long time after they released a phone. The thing that really holds me back though, is the 3.5 inch screen. Yes, it's an awesome screen, and amazing PPI, but I'm not sure I could get used to a screen that small after having an SGSII and Evo3D for a while with a 4.3 inch screen.
So yeah, is there anything about the RAZR I should know about? What phone would you choose if you haven't chosen what you have? And how do you find the battery life?
Dude it depends on your experience by using Android phones or IOS Phones for me 4s is better cuz it has lots of features when jailbreaked....About Nexus its cool but kinda "slow" IOS Has better speed and performance I mean NO LAGG at 4S
PLEASE GIMME THANKS!
From those 3 phones I would choose the Razr. The thing that is bringing up the thought of returning mine is the bootloader: will it get unlocked or not, if so when? The apple Iphone I would simply never ever consider it because the phone is so locked(no widgets etc) and the Gnex is awesome because there is so many roms+ unlocked BL. But if the RAZR gets the BL unloacked I think it will be a beast. The built quality is one of the best i`ve seen on an Android phone. Beats bith the Gnex and Iphone.
Sorry for spelling mistakes I am writing this on my tab without auto correction.

My advice is the Razr as i have had a Iphone4s and nexus and a Galaxy S2
the razr is best in build quality along with the iphone4S
Iphone 4S is the most overrated hardware in this century so far i kept it for 1 day and sold it
While Samsung phones feel all cheap and nasty but have great features
The Razr is a great phone and its now my main phone , defo the best phone on the market at present
only bad side to Razr is locked bootloader and it doesnt have WIFI direct
great roms Icecream Sandwich roms already out put the phone to near full potential
Cant really fault this phone its the best by far
I came to the Razr Maxx from the Evo 3D. I loved the Evo 4G and Evo 3D. You won't notice anything about the screen that overly zealous people are complaining about on the Razr's screen. The screen is great. But get the Maxx. The battery lasts all day long. You'll really like that feature.
The Apple's screen is just too small. It would be nice if they released a phone with a bigger screen and loosened their control over the device just a bit. With Jobs dead now you would think that might happen but I wouldn't hold my breath. Afterall, why give the public something they might want. Apple knows best.
get an iphone kthxbai
For me decision to buy a razr was quite easy. I had 3gs & 2x iP 4 and I definitely didn't want to come back to this s#*%. I'm talking abt iTunes and othes "advantages" of IOS.
Samsung devices are realy high performance but.. looks and feels like a piece of crappy plastic. But I wanted nice and solid looking device.
Well, that's my story.

thanks whore.
I wouldn't add much to what everyone here has already said. It basically boils down to preference.
iPhone 4s has a really smooth interface and yeah iOS is optimized like ****! But then you're hardware support is gonna run out pretty soon cuz it has no dev community. Also if you're an experiment freak like me, you're gonna feel caged. You'll be stuck with an older version of iOS while all the newer Apple devices will get updated.
With Android that isn't the case, I still have my old 2010 SE Xperia X8 and even it's got an ICS port. So device support (at least unofficially) isn't an issue.
Now coming down to GNex vs. RAZR
RAZR wins out on almost every front. Better build quality, signal/reception, camera, call quality and GPS. A smaller screen and lesser res(it in no way looks pixellated or anything, the display is just beautiful but statistically lesser in res and size) with the same GPU as GNex means you'll get higher frame rates as games start taxing these GPUs. Also its the slimmest in the world(one of a kind) with a revolutionary design so you got bragging rights too!
The RAZR has a TI OMAP 4430, which is a lower model that GNex's TI OMAP 4460, but then their both clocked at 1.2 GHz. Untill we get overclocking support, you won't actually notice any difference at stock speeds.(please correct me if im wrong here)
The RAZR does lose out on the locked bootloader and direct update support. But we've heard from kholk that a bootloader bypass is on the way and also that Motorola is planning to unlock our bootloaders with the ICS update in Q2.
The fact that Gnex has ICS again doesn't matter much. ICS doesn't bring any thing really useful to the table. Its just like a hyper-optimized Gingerbread. No lags, smooth UI and all that ****.
The RAZR is scheduled for the ICS update anyways and I'm pretty sure that it'll see android 5.0 too!
PS: Even if the Gnex was better than the RAZR in every damned specification, I would still buy the RAZR. I just can't stand the plastic on Samsung phones. When the hell are they gonna learn that you don't put something as cheap as plastic on high end phones! :/
BTW tried to keep my thoughts as unbiased as possible. Hope it helped!
EDIT
Sorry forgot somethings!
Battery on the RAZR is awesome! I can easily get 1.5 days of normal usage with some wifi (no data however). Also you can use setCPU to lower processor speeds when the screen is off! Thats a big battery booster!
Battery Life Order:
RAZR>iPhone 4S> GNEX(Battery on the GNEX truly SUCKS!, idk what samsung was thinking)

Ya when you can run custom kernels on the RAZR it will be awesome.

All in what you want. IPhone has kinda a Fisher Price ui IMO. It is fast & smooth. And is missing lee capability. Screen is beautiful, but tiny.
Nexus has a cheap battery door. The camera is small, but fast. And there us no SD slot. Deal killer for me.
I have a couple Razr Maxx's. I love them. They are sturdy, and the battery life is phenomenal. Motorola Blur is coming along nicely. The smart actions are extremely handy, as is Motocast. HDMI has full mirroring, which is also nice. The nano-coating is not only water resistant, its fingerprint resistant. Bootloader is the only negative for this phone, unless you're looking for NFC or a barometer.
If u are a crack flasher, u might want the nexus. Otherwise, for something that just dominated out of the box, Maxx can't be beat yet IMO. Don't waste you're money on a og Razr. U will just end up frustrated with battery life.
Hey I would consider the rezound out of all of them. It has the best screen out with 720p 4.3" display, equal to the galaxy nexus but sharper. 32gb of storage, 8mp camera with 1080p recording. 2mp front face camera. Beats audio, Dual core 1.5ghz snapdragon processor. Dev support is outstanding. Mine is running android 4.0.3 ics and has face lock. Phone is the only one aside from the Thunderbolt that can talk and surf at the sametime on 3g and 4g. The other 4g phones on Verizon can only do it on 4g. It's rooted and has free WiFi tethering. The galaxy nexus is ok but it gets boring from times. Vanilla ics is ok for some. The 5mp camera was not that great and I dislike the fact that there is no external sd card slot. The only thing great to me about the nexus is getting the updates first. I wish HTC was still making the galaxy line up. The razr is ok. It has great signal, battery life is great. Screen is pretty good. I don't know if it's that new pin tile technology on the razor or not but I hate the pin tile. Looks grainy or something when looking at it close. I hate motoblur. The only thing nice about blur widgets were that they were resizable but they suck to me. There like windows phone 7 tiles without the live action. The rezound is a excellent phone in my opinion. HTC sense is just a better UI to me. Sense 4.0 is even better and runs very light on the Rom. Or with the rezound you can also go with the vanilla feel of ics. Screen is incredible. Music sounds amazing, never had a problem with signal. My battery life is great with dev support getting 14hrs out of my rezound with heavy use. Camera is beautiful.

The Sense UI on the HTC rezound actually makes the phone lag! Sorry dude, I hate Sense with a passion! Seen too many HTC phones with my friends. :/
And the 1.5 Ghz dual core processor isn't even a true dual core. Its more on a makeshift arrangement. Thats the reason why HTC Rezound is beaten by the RAZR and other TI OMAP dual core phones in benchmarks. And as far as Beats are concerned, its just a software equalizer, nothing else and its already been ported!
And an LCD display doesn't even come close to a S-AMOLED display when it comes to color contrast and brightness. Besides AMOLEDs eat less battery with dark colors!
Also the Rezound is bulky and HTC is probably gonna kill hardware support for it very soon in light of the new HTC One series release. So I don't think its that good an option.
Dont go the Apple way, I just did but couldnt go back, to many things is just missing.

It all depends on what you're looking for the most in using your phone. For me, getting all my calls, texts, and voice mails on time, are number 1 priority. And Motorola is known to make great wireless radios. The internet speeds are awesome on it. I love the Droid Razr. Not a big fan of the screen display technology but it's easy to get use to. Also not a big fan of the TI OMap processor, I think it's kinda slow but it's not a big enough issue to drive me away. It has a nice camera and it's a really nice smartphone. The build quality is fantastic in my opinion. The device just looks beautiful. I read and also have heard in videos that Motorola isn't gonna be seeing ICS updates until 3RD quarter of the year. That's pretty late. If you're thinking about getting the Razr, I would get the Razr Maxx. But the thing that sucks about the Maxx is that right now it only comes in black I believe. The OG Razr comes in black, white, and purple.
If you want the ICS OS right now or you plan to root and flash roms, your best choice is the Galaxy Nexus. Google phones are made for development. I expected something amazing with the Galaxy Nexus but it's ok to me. Only thing it has that I like is ICS. The display is ok. I expected better with 720p HD.
Iphone 4s has a great camera and screen display. It looks to be smooth when I play with it. I never owned one so I don't know. My friend who was an android head for years went to get a iPhone and he loves it. Says it's smooth no lag. Not as many bugs as android. I may have to mess around and get a iPhone in the future lol. But it would absolutely need to have a bigger screen and it would have to be a 4G device. The current screen size with iPhone is too small for my taste but hey some people might not care.

How much are you lovin' it? (A positive thread)

There is a lot of 'My new phone has bugs' threads, and maybe rightly so, as with any new device... But I would like to make a positive thread about how we are loving our EVOs!
Love my screen size
The functionality that Sense gives me
My 64gb SD card
People ask what phone I have once they see the back design
Google wallet usage
I've had more comments on it's kickstand that I had with the EVO 4G's kickstand for some reason.
I love how thin it is (coming from an EVO 4G)
The awesome battery life (I'm seeing about 16 hours yeilds around 20% battery left the last few days
Happy to stay with Sprint and tether unlimitedly (within reason) hehe
I love having root and having the same features that my EVO 4G had when I left it
The MODs already available that I've applied
Looking forward to the ROMs that really turn me on. I haven't flashed any just yet. Waiting to see what gets cooked up.
I'm very happy with my phone.
Any noteworthy experiences you've had with it being out and about?
I'm pretty impressed so far.
+Battery Life
+Screen (way better than my Epic 4G and I compared it to a co-worker's ATT Galaxy II and there's no comparison).
+Fast, loading some apps tooks forever on my Epic 4G. Really see the shining power of an additional core and +500 mhz
+Faster 3G speeds, not by much but hey I'll take what I can get
+I much prefer Sense over TouchWhiz
+Kickstand, I place it right infront of my laptop at work and it doesn't budge
+Unlimited data, even if it's slow I don't see justifying an additional $20-50 for other data plans on Big Red or ATT (I use over 5GB a month normally).
-Google Wallet: not sure what Google's deal is here, maybe they're withholding due to Sprint's plans but I managed to fix it with the build.prop/SU workaround but for those who don't want to risk root/messing with files I can see how this is frustrating, especially if they have $10 burning a hole in their phone (not wallet, cwutIdidther?)
Neutral: Multi-tasking. I can see where people get frustrated at this but I don't have 4-5 apps I need open and re-opening them isn't a big deal to me. Sometimes I use Pandora and I like a song, pause it, do something else, then return to it and it re-loads and loads a new song. Kind of annoying but whatever.
I love the phone to. This is my first HTC. My last was a nexus s 4g. (great phone btw). I like the build quality and sence. The speed and battery are amazing.
I love when someone whips out their iPhone and my screen is as big as their entire phone.

Loving NFC right now, holy crap where was this 2009 ago?
Digging the Camera that has put to death HTCs long history of $#itty white balancing. The instant shutter brings tears of joy to my eyes.
Finally nice to have some decent internal memory for once.
And the screen, the money maker, superb.
This will be the 1st phone I'll be holding onto for 2 years (or plan to anyway) since the.... well ever.
I'm enjoying it thus far. I had an HTC TouchPro, a TP2, the OG Evo, the Evo 3D, and now the Evo LTE. Not really an HTC fanboy, but the phones they've put out on Sprint have always met my needs, and there's always been an upgraded one available when I got the upgrade itch.
I love the battery life, the screen is awesome, and the camera is phenomenal, especially for a phone camera. On the whole I like Sense, and it's one of the better interfaces for Android I've played with in terms of integration and functionality that it adds. I don't like how buggy and laggy it can get, how it can slow down the phone, and how it has a few settings/features I wish were easier to turn off, but the positives definitely outweigh the negatives.
I can't wait until the dev community matures some more and we see some different variations/tweaks, a fully functional CM9, a wider variety of ROMs, and some themes to throw around.
Oh, and after flashing Freiza's kernel, a lot of my slow down/lag has dropped out. Add in the PKMN ROM with both cores, and it's a much improved experience with negligible impact on battery life. WIN!
Fantastic camera (for a phone).
Amazing screen quality.
Phone is solid, does not feel cheap.
Sense 4.0 is great compared to other Sense versions. It is nice to see a more "less is more" approach from HTC on this one. Of course it is still heavy compared to AOSP, but it is very light compared to older Sense versions.
Went from launch day EVO, to launch day EVO 3D, then to this. This phone feels very light (my 3D had a Seidio Surface case on it, so it weighed a bit more than normal). I love the camera features that come stock on this compared to the last two EVO phones.
(Everyone who posted so far got a thanks from me for the positive comments. It is nice to see a positive thread for once. Seems all people want to do is complain these days, not here specifically... I mean in general.)
The other day someone asked me if it was an iPhone, that says enough for me. Seriously though I am very happy with this device and sorry to see so many issues being reported. I don't have a single one.

- I love the screen, it's gorgeous. I thought the screen on my Epic 4G was amazing and this blows it away (and the screen on my Transformer). It's really fast, has a great camera and amazing battery life. My friend has the GS2 and I was wowed by that when he got it, I thought it was super thin and fast and the Evo makes that look like a dinosaur.
Oh yes I'm lovin it, can't wait until all the awesome new development starts to flow (MIUI) and any and all tricks and hacks.
this phone is already very nice and it will only get better, I love my new toy.

Am I missing something? I thought the Evo 4G LTE could only handle a 32 GB card.

If you format the 64 GB card using the phone, it works. I have a 64 GB card in my Evo LTE right now.
Well I said it with the og EVO. And now ill have to re state that this is the best phone I've ever had. Solid. Smooth. And just works. I absolutely have no issues with it that occur any more than a 1 time thing. Don't and probably never will understand the issues others experience besides obvious user error because this thing is awesome. Now just waiting on sprint to make it more awesome with nv or LTE.

I was enjoying my Evo 3D again after finally getting it rooted and running MeanROM/SOS ROM, but I really wanted a better camera to capture pictures of the kids. The GS3 had some appeal but I didn't want to wait and decided to give this one a try first.
- Display: I'm addicted to it and don't think I could give it up. I sometimes prefer watching this than all but my newest TV.
- Kickstand: With this screen and all of the great apps now out for video, this actually is really useful, and the design of it is superb.
- Build: Design is nice, hardware feels super solid. I don't love the glossy plastic part but don't hate it.
- Camera: almost prefect for my use. It's so fast and the UI is very nice. At a kids birthday party over the weekend at a bounce-house, I caught a lot of decent photos and videos I would never be able to get before. I find my photos a tad over saturated, but it does give them a little "pop" that my family seems to like better
- Battery: I wasn't sure about the battery life at first but its great now. I don't mind the non-replaceable battery.
- Storage: With the on-board storage and a 32GB card, plus the 150GB of cloud storage I have among various services, I certainly have plenty of space. The storage configuration with MTP and partitions is a little goofy, but not a huge deal.
I have some gripes about it, but almost all are software (Sense bloat, HTC multitasking killing background music and downloads, the lame multitasking UI, the no-menu-button-3-dot-popup). Once I bite the bullet and root this thing, all of those problems go away.

You can go all the way up to 128GB
It supports SDXC, though it isn't advertised.

Lovin' the dedicated shutter button and fast camera, battery life (compared to my previous HTCs), fast processor, and large screen size.
Lovin' how great the phone looks with a sanded top cover. I'm lovin' Charmeleon ROM 5.0 too.
I've received compliments from others on the super IPS display with wide viewing angle. They also love how thin the phone is.
Much love for this phone!
Image sense rules
Battery life and performance are killer
Form factor plus sense 4.0, sexiest phone ever
Seems like multitasking was better stock than on a custom rom. Currently on fresh 5.1.1
When LTE finally rolls out in LA, iphone fools will be drooling

I have been on viper Rom now since yesterday with the menu mod.
I can definitely say this Rom is slightly more responsive, and I love the menu button 'fix'.
I believe this Rom brings out the best in what the stock was already making good. Oh, and i have seen improvement on multitasking. It's not perfect, as stated in the roms thread, but it is def better.
