[Q] Is there a "normal" keyboard? Also, internal SD not working... - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a keyboard layout that has the letters in their "normal" places. I've tried a number of keyboard apps and none of them are laid out like a real keyboard.
While I'm at it, is there anyway to disable what I can only presume is "error correcting" that sometimes doesn't type a letter I press? I'll be typing a word like "well" and it will pop up the little preview on the keyboard as I type w and e, but only e will show up, presumably because it assumed that the w was a mi****. I've disabled all the obvious settings under keyboards in Settings. Perhaps it's a touchscreen thing, however, I'll look into it.
Also, with VEGAn 5.1, it's no longer acting correctly when connected to the PC via USB. It will appear to act correctly until I try to transfer a file at which point the PC hangs up and the connection is severed and the button on the gtab returns to "Turn On File Sharing". Not a deal breaker, but a bit annoying since now I have to transfer files via my micro sd card.

What is a normal keyboard for you ?
Where are you located, in US ?
You know that keyboard layout changes from country to country !

It changes minimally for most countries using roman characters. But yes, a US or UK keyboard would do the trick. I don't care if backspace or shift or whatever are in odd places, that I can get used to, but I can't seem to find a keyboard that has the three main rows of keys offset in the standard manner. I realize this is undoubtedly a side effect of android 2.2/.3 being a phone OS on a tablet, but I would hope that there would be a real keyboard somewhere. Maybe I'll need to look into what's involved in making a keyboard app.

xdzt,
I suggest you keep trying with the Tnt Western keyboard that is stock on it.
I had never used a touch keyboard before and used the stock kb for the first
time. Since then, I have used a few others that got installed in place of the
stock kb.
I like the spread out letters and the split let's my long thumb also do the "thumb"
thing. I also like the .com and @ and other extra things it automagically brings
up when you need them.
Who knows? It may grow on you!!!

Does anyone know if the stock TnT Western Keyboard is available as an apk? I would really like to run this keyboard under CM7.
Thanks,
JD

JD,
Not an expert on this, but yes, I'm pretty sure there is. You might search in the
forums -- this is not the first time someone has asked this. And yes, you might
also use Root Explorer or one of the other file managers to find it on the G-Tablet.

[Q] how to deactivate that finger-sliding?

hello world.
i'm a new owner of a htc hd2. i'm happy with it except of one thing:
many applications don't work properly or important functions are not possible to use.
for example: i've got problems with the shipped browsers (opera, internet explorer)
if i am on a website that has drop-down-menus with many entries that need a scrollbar to show the other items, it is not possible to use that scrollbar. every time i'm trying to scroll in that drop-down-menu the whole page is scrolling.
also it's not possible to use the scrollbar if i activate the text-selection-mode in the browsers.
but thats not the only thing i don't like.
also i'm missing the classical selection of multiple files at a time (hold and select, not tapping and single-mark the files one after the other).
i just want the old-style windows-mobile-stylus-control back.
there must be any registry tweak to deactivate that sliding-stuff?!
i was looking for a solution for days but i couldn't find anything, only that many people have the same problems - but no solution.
thanks for any tip

there is a capacitive stylus for HD2, but it isn't as precise as the traditional stylus for other older devices. the thing is HD2 uses capacitive touch screen(skin acts as capacitor), not resistive (pressure) touch screen. imprecision is one of the draw backs i suppose.

i've noticed this behavior in opera mobile 9.x and 10.x. it is truly annoying and i haven't heard of any work around. i suppose you could try the affected sites in internet explorer.

there are many threads about this problem...none of them suggest a "free" solution to get around it. the gist of the issue is that if the list of files in file explorer fit in one page, then the drag-select gesture works as expected. if the list of files in file explorer exceeds one page, then the annoying scroll behavior kicks in. the "work around" is to get a better file manager, like resco explorer (highly recommended but you have to BUY it!!!).

the OP is asking about how to get the behaviors back from the old days of stylus-based windows mobile. he isn't asking about which stylus products work or why the HD2 uses a capacitive screen or any debatable drawbacks of a capacitive screen. the fact is, capacitive screen or not, the new behaviors in windows mobile are coded to do a scroll operation with the drag gesture in most applications.
i know that a capacitive needs a special stylus but for the moment i'm not missing the stylus, but the old windows mobile control-style.
now i tried the newest opera mobile 10 from the opera homepage.
the drop-down-menu-scrolling is working perfect in that browser. first solution is found.
you don't use the scrollbar in the drop-downs, because after opening the drop-down you just slide up and down with the finger within the list. it's really easy to use now.
but i still want the classic control-style in other and as specially older apps back.

Keyboard question

I am sure that this is just a dumb Noob question but I cannot figure it out. Sometimes when I need to enter text in an app, I get a keyboard that shows only text characters. If I need something like an @ or even a ".", I have to access that part of the keyboard. When entering email address this can be a pain.
Other times, for no reason that is apparent to me, I get a more functional keyboard that includes things like @ and .com along with some other useful characters.
Why do I get different keyboards from time to time? Is there any way to lock in the more useful keyboard that includes the often used characters or phrases?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] android keyboard like windows phone select tap to change

hello
Have checked the forums and found nothing.
But windows phone keyboard has this great feature, after writing your text or message. You can then go back through the whole message just tapping on misspelt words once and it will highlight the whole word and give you suggestions that you can pick from.
Its such a great feature, I've looked for a keyboard that replicates it but have found none. they only give suggestions as you type and not after you've finished writing, which breaks your train of thoughts.
Does anyone know of a keyboard that does this.
Which Android version are you on? The stock android keyboard of 4.1 does the exact same thing.
I'm on 2.2 froyo, which is old.
I've downloaded the jellybean keyboard off of google play store, but it only offers suggestion as i type. Not after i have finished typing and when i look back i realise I've misspelt words.
Better keyboard does this also. The reason you don't see it is that it needs to be built into the system for 3rd party apps to use it. If it is not there then no app will do it.

Can't change location or screen orientation

Hi all,
Hope I'm posting this in the right place. If not, please move.
I have Remix_OS_for_PC_Android_M_64bit_B2016072603 installed as a virtual guest in Virtualbox 5.0.24_Ubuntu r1083 with Xubuntu-core 16.04 as the host machine. Using a Toshiba Satellite Pro L510. Took me four days to nut out how to get to this point, but installed and booting and stable now.
My issues:
1/ Location: When I try to run an app from Play Store it thinks I'm outside of Australia/New Zealand (the app I'm trying to run is specific to those regions). I'm in Australia, the app works fine on my phone (am logging in exactly the same way).
(* Update: I installed GPS Status and it tells me GPS is not switched on. Was hoping to then change the location with Fake GPS, which I also installed. It won't do anything with same message: GPS not enabled or similar.)
2/ Resolution: The screen defaults to portrait, as expected I suppose, but I have a 1366x768 monitor and it doesn't fit in the screen. Consequently, I have a scroll bar because as Virtualbox Guest Additions is not compatible with Remix OS at this point there is no mouse integration (I need to hit Right Control to use mouse in host and same to use in guest again). I need to press a bunch of keys to just scroll the screen up and get back to where I was going. :|
Other than that, all working great, Remix OS is great, thanks to the team that created it. The main reason I was wanting to use it is to use this one app on my computer (AFL Live) and plug my computer into the TV. I don't use my phone for anything other than that one app, SMS and the occasional call so I am by no means an Android junky. In fact, before this, I knew very little about it (but a lot about Linux/Ubuntu).
This install has been a quest, a learning curve, and these are my last two hurdles so I'm calling for help if it's out there. Trawled the net, tried some things, but have hit a brick wall with these two problems.
My first post so not sure of the protocol. If these two issues should be the subject of two separate threads, mods please advise and I will edit accordingly and create a new thread.
Tnx in advance.
(* Further update: Just having a read of this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/remix/remix-os/remix-os-installation-rooting-t3293769
Wondering if rooting the device would allow me to change any of these, in particularly, the location to Australia where it should be, or switch on GPS so my app can see where I actually am. I'm presuming it thinks I am in the Cocos Islands or somewhere else!)
(* And further update: The screen resolution was as easy as typing Alt+F1 to launch a terminal then 'wm size 1366x768'. That looked terrible, though, so changed it to 1048x768 (from memory) and it is good enough, though not perfect. I may be able to get closer with further tweaking. Now the last, and most important, hurdle to leap: How do I get Remix OS, and more specifically my AFL app, to know I'm in Australia. Frustration. It's taken about ten days, on and off, to get here and still not quite where I want to be, but hopefully my travails can help someone else along the way ...)
Gave up on it. If anyone comes up with a way of running Remix OS in Virtualbox and setting the location, please post. Guestadditions would probably fix it and maybe one day ROS will be compatible with it.
On the other hand, I did learn a lot more about Android than I cared to know, but am now thinking about buying my first ever Android tablet to do the job with a USB/HDMI adapter.

X96H PRO TV Box Cannot Press Enter on Keyboards And Cannot Get r/w Access?

I just bought the X96H PRO TV Box a all winner H603 chipset 32gb rom 4gb ram quad core, running android pie 9.0. It's native root without read/write access I never knew that root could exist no read/write access in the first place? Any way, I need to find out how to get read and write tried the permission changes in folders and files namely the Genric.kl file and subsequent folders. The issue is I cannot press enter on a keyboard not the built in virtual keyboard or a USB keyboard wired or wireless in both chrome and or Google play store apps nor brave browser either. Hence this is one big paragraph lol as can't hit enter key and go to a new paragraph how ridiculously idiotic a flaw to add to a firmware surely the decade and then some years should have given the dev an idea to include enter as key option 28 in Genric.kl but no he put D_PAD ENTER instead so I am stuck now no full root to modify it, I have no experience modding stuff I struggle to learn. However can reflash devices extremely well and hard mod but this has got me stumped now, I don't want to void the warranty it's not a day old I don't want to return it either, I tried USB keyboard helper tried remapping it to 28 enter and fails well works in apps bar play store and chrome/brave browsers. Can someone maybe help me out please get the system read and write everything, there is another interesting option to input hdmi on this device again it comes with a flaw it's controlled via the remote only and designated as a source button with no visible os around it sort of dictating it could be simply for passing hdmi sources through it and not to record with which sort of seems gimmicky and a clever sort of you buy it on the assumption it records you bought it for good thing I think it is, if anyone could also shed light how I might records this please let me know.
