Droid x2 - Motorola Droid X2

So i recently saw some info online regarding the droid x2. I currently am using a fascinate and regret every day giving up my droid x. LTE would be nice and was considering a bionic, and im not the biggest tech person and was pretty mich satisfied with my dx, what can I say hindsight is 20/20. But my question from what limited info people have seen regarding the dx2 is different from the original dx?

there isnt anything solid about it yet
if you want solid info you have to wait for it to be announced and if you dont want to wait you should get the thunderbolt, imo its a really good phone(plus it has sense which is 100000000000X better than motoblur)

The dx2 is exactly the same as the Droid x except it has a 2gb class two SD card

from what i've heard (possibly just rumors), the droid x2 will have the tegra 2 processor and will be running on the 4g lte. i also heard that its got the new qhd screen. Again, these could be all rumors so don't bite my head off, that's just what i have read.

I am certain that the dx2 is going to be on 3g but I'm not sure about the processor part

Unless virtually all of the suspected info about the Droid X2 is wrong, it's going to be a waste and Samsung/LG/HTC will be leaving it in the dust.
Frankly, it doesn't bother me, as I'm looking forward to going back to HTC at some point. I didn't think the locked bootloader on the DX would bother me much since root is the main issue, but it has; and even if HTC and everyone else locks them from here on out, it's Motorola that started it.

Just picked up the Droid X a few days ago. Man, I'm way behind.
I'll be interested to see what the actual outcome of the DX2 will be. A 3G only version doesn't seem quite right, but then again, I'm a new-comer to the whole smartphone thing.

You're thinking of Droid Binoic.

Motorola Atrix and Motorola Xoom, Brother's of Droid X2, will be in the UK (at least on Orange) by June (Motorola state 2nd quarter 2011). It is amazing.

Needing users opinions please

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but i figure ill fire it out there. After going thru multiple warranty replacements and they even swapped my original x for an x2. It will not activate. the manager said he would send me an iphone4 32gig model. He said i will have until Friday to make my decision. I love android and never used ios. They will not ship me anything with a 4.3 inch screen except another x2. Im just tired of the swapping. I told them i may switch to sprint. I just am looking for opinions and i wont flame anyone for their opinion. Thanks all
They should be able to get you activated eventually, that sounds odd to me. I'm very happy with my DX2. I would rather have the Nvidia Tegra 2 processor over any other feature on any device. The qhd display is also amazing, don't let anyone tell you otherwise until you see a Tegra 2 game like PinballHD or RiptideGT in person.
I also have an original Droid X running ota Gingerbread and the performance is great. Once the DX2 is updated to 2.3 and more apps are written to take advantage of dual core this device will deliver some awesome performance. Fir now, gotta love scoring 2800+ on quadrant everytime with stock unrooted DX2
But do what's best for you. The iPhone is sweet and iOS 5 is just around the corner. That will be like xmas morning in iPhoneland, so many new features to unwrap! But I'm sticking with my Droooiiiiddddd

Just a quick tip.. I had problems activating too.
This might help - Make sure you have good service and instead of pressing the activate button on the screen, go to emergency then dial *228. That worked for me.
Im not an Apple fan. Droid all the way
Just left iphone 4 on AT&T, signed up for Verizon, got DROID charge, returned charge a day later and got DROID x2. I am finally at home.
Dual core, qhd display, supreme build quality, reliable network, unlimited data and working netflix... simply can't beat it.

Stick with it, take your x2. Because of the processor and the build, it will last you anonly get much better with gingerbread. Plus the boot loader will probably be unlocked in the future.

Thanks for all the responses. By the way the emergency call *228 worked. Thank you for that. I used to have an iphone and when i activated it was like riding a bike again. But then it hit me that i have to jailbreak and add all these repos and install all this crap and have pretty icons all over the place. I got it 6 hours ago and its going back in the box. Im sticking with the x2. Hopefully it gets updated soon and all will be right with the world. I now despise apple products even more. Its more of a gimick toy for someone to say "i have an iphone" Sorry i doubted you android, even if it was only a couple of hours.
Yeah, ipwn is teh suc. Glad you stuck it out.
Yeah, good move with the x2. The ip4 is stable, intuitive and runs itself more or less... But it's so boring and limiting. The android phones just feel faster. Back when I was a dedicated iPhone guy, I thought the ip4 was blazing fast...until I started on android.
My OG Droid felt faster then the iPhone 4 after Root/ROM/OC. 10 minutes of work and I had a superior phone. (in my book)
Now that I've got the X2, using the iPhone feels like going back to my Palm Pre from the OG. Big leap forward, pentile display be damned.

The X2 display is MUCH nicer than the Atrix's screen. Its like night and day for some reason, even though they are using similar tech.
Agreed. DX2 display is better.
I don't dislike it necessarily, it has just taken some adjustment from the OG Droid.

I just came over from AT&T. Coming from a long line of iphone, I have owned the following devices, some less, some more than a month:
(AT&T)
Iphone 4
Htc inspire
Motorola atrix
Htc inspire
Samsung infuse
(Another) iphone 4
(Got onto verizon)
Samsung DROID charge (2 days)
Motorola DROID x2
And I can say with confidence the x2 is my favorite. Stability and build quality are great. Everything works and will only get better.

Android and ICS

So after seeing what ICS can do and what not I am in the verge of switching either the Photon or OS. Simply because its idiotic to me that Android is suppose to be open yet we will have to wait at least 3 months for ICS to leave out to other devices. What good does this do for Google? What about those folks that just bought their Bionics? Amaze 4G? Or yet the Photon. We have to wait for this to hopefully come to us if not root and hope that we will get it.? This is my biggest gripe with the whole Android and other OS's. Even though its suppose to be open it still very frustrating with all the fragmentation ... so what do u guys think? Are you dome with the Moto?
I rather have all that, then iOS. Look at it this way it comes with the terf.

Well moto has posted in a blog that the Droid RAZR, Xoom, and Droid Bionic will all receive ICS within 6 weeks of it being released. No word yet on other devices, but I'd say its only a matter of time until the photon gets it as well, since it's specs are on par with the Bionic and Xoom.

Exactly my point, so why pick favorites Moto? Or is Verizon really THAT much more important? Sorry if I sound so negative but as a loyal Moto consumer why not state that all Motorola devices that were released in 2011 will receive ICS.?

I love my Maxx.

I've had a lots of phones in the short year and half with Verizon and I can honestly say the Maxx has really got a spell on me. I love this phone.
It's battery last me over 4 hours on LTE which is something my old Nexus could never do even with the a 3500ma battery. The speaker is loud, and the camera is great especially video.
This is the only non vanilla ui which I actually like. It may not be stock but it's only lightly skinned. I don't even feel a need to root the phone.
I just wanted to put that out there.
Sent from my DROID RAZR MAXX
Right there with ya!! I had the GNex for 8 months prior to switching to the Maxx, and I too love this phone! Notifications I can hear, crystal clear phone calls and a super insane battery!
~~ Tapped from the 7th dimension~~
Root for ti backup and undervolting in my case. Undervolting might not be necessary for battery life, but the phone is also cooler under volted.

I just got a plain RAZR as a replacement phone after 3 Galaxy Nexus. I haven't sent back the Nexus yet but think I will stay with the RAZR. It is a nice piece of hardware and the radio is definitely better. Now all I have to do is get past the development side and I will be all set.

I have AT&T and had a GSM Galaxy Nexus for 6 months. Finally snagged a GSM MAXX on eBay and am selling my Nexus.
It's pretty awesome, even with missing Jelly Bean.
The Rezound I had died and the only replacement they could offer was the Maxx. Much easier phone to use. In my research the specs were better on the Rezound so I went with it, real world use of the two showed me the Maxx was better.
I have not even had the desire to root it like I did my Dinc and Rezound. But I miss TB and Adway.

Narrowed it down to these four phones

Razr, Atrix 2, Photon or HTC Amaze. Which one would you choose?
EDIT: Now that GSM works on the Bionic I might as well add that to the list.

Based on the specs, you might as well rule out the Atrix 2 and Bionic. They all have a slower 1Ghz processor, as opposed to the Razr's 1.2Ghz.
The HTC Amaze and Photon both have a 1.5Ghz processor.
Personally, if I could afford it, the new Razr Maxx HD would be my choice. Ultimately, it will come down to your personal preference and how much you can afford to spend. I opted for the Razr, which I picked up 10 days ago, because it was $100 and I'm plugged in most of the time. Also, the Razr works with FoxFi (wifi tethering) without having to root, which for me on an unlimited data plan, is my go-anywhere isp.
Depends on your Atrix 2 and Bionic actually...on ICS they both get bumped to 1.2Ghz in most cases.
I'm more about build quality and development prospects, hoping to get the full jar of Jelly Beans down the line, not just a taste . I considered Bionic cause I have the Droid 3 which appears to be the same except for the keyboard(and less RAM) and I love the build quality. I guess for dev prospect Razr and Amaze look best right now.

Good to know.
Just saw a 1080p video captured by the RAZR, very clean quality like Droid 3 and unlike Amaze. Maybe the best choice sits right under my nose, just don't wanna make a hasty decision this time.
EDIT:Striking Photon 4G off my list. Everything points to the nVidia chips hampering development after the latest news from Motorola.
I would suggest looking at how badly you like custom kernels/roms. Kexec is slowly being stabilized but there are still issues to be worked out and personally after using a Nexus 7 with an unlocked bl, going back to the RAZR leaves a pretty sour taste in your mouth knowing that the device has so much potential yet we can't push it to its maximum limit.
If time is no issue, I would suggest waiting till December as there are rumours of a successor to the GNex and also we are seeing phones coming out with the S4 quads/Adreno so you may have better choices down the road. If you're still not happy, you can probably get better discounts/prices on the phones you currently have in mind.

Droid DNA or should I leave to a RAZR Maxx HD?

I was given the option to switch? What should I do? I am getting really desperate because of no root on my DNA!? Is there any other phones on Verizon I should look towards?

Galaxy s4 at the end of the month. Pretty sure it will see more action than the DNA. Though DNA imo is probably better.

The only better spec on the razr is probably the battery it has nothing on the dna.

In all fairness, the Razr Maxx has twice the internal memory, option for an SD card, quicker updates from Motorola, better radios and currently an unlocked bootloader option. As for screen resolution, smoothness (quad-core plus twice the ram), camera and features the DNA wins in those categories.

Ummm... No....

I've owned both. The battery life is immensely great on the maxx. But it being locked down like the dna was horrible. Motoblur is kept to a minimum. While Rom speed ends up slow due to the lacking dual core. The moto doesn't have anything resembling a task manager so the phone becomes quick overrun by rogue apps robbing memory. It does have a decent radio but the lte radios were horrible. I had a unique problem the other razr owners had. Dust would accumulate in the headphone port cause it not to switch AT ALL. The Maxx is a decent phone. But the HTC has a better radio and reception, faster processor and a better camera. However. The maxx had a better microphone for videos. I have comparison videos I could post if you'd like. But. I chose the DNA.

How do you know that the radios are better? "Because its a Motorola" is not a valid answer.
OP, the razr HD is even wider than the DNA. It is difficult to use with one hand.
Sad to know that specwise. The RAZR. Is/mighthavebeen the thinnest phone on the market. I got better reception on my DNA than I ever did on the maxx. It would also heat up quite a bit whereas the DNA is slightly warm? And only hot with my wireless charger. The razr used to heat up even in a long phone call which made it almost unbearable to hold on your face. I also had to send my RAZR in for a refurb. Vibe motor became disconnected from the mobo and rattled in the phone. Except the razr had a very strong vibe motor. The colors and screen quality got better with the JB update it got. However in lowlight settings the physical manufacturing limits of the screen left black splotches that with time will expand and move about the screen. You cannot see these under high brightness. 3 razr maxx's and one friends razr all had this issue so its not limited to batch runs. I can imagine they improved this with the newer HD version but I can't atest to it. The motorola hardware is SOLID. But the software that moto overlays can be cumbersome. At least HTC always tests sense. Even on a 5-600mhz Qualcomm the sense doesn't lag. I can keep answering any questions you have. I'm very very picky. My DNA headphone port plastic chipped away one day. But. I still have my charge door. I don't plug in.

If you're at all used to the speed, display, and smoove operating on the DNA, the Maxx HD will be a difficult pill to swallow. I went that route and had real trouble getting over the screen; there is absolutely no comparison to the DNA and the DNA wins hands down. The second thing I noticed on the Maxx HD was the lag that creeps up and bites you on the @ss. At first I didn't think it was any big deal. As time went on however, the lag got worse and worse until I finally said, "Enough!". At one point I was using TiB to reboot the phone for me every night just to clear things out.
I gave up the stellar battery life for a phone I'm in love with. IMHO there isn't anything out there which compares to the DNA; my only desire would be a bigger battery, but there are tradeoffs to be considered. I've learned to live with the battery life using a combo of carefully monitoring specific app battery consumption and using a wireless charger. I'm sure there are people who have gone this route and decided to stick with the Maxx HD or some other phone for their own personal priorities.
With the launch of the S4 and the One I'm sure they will rival the DNA in many areas. However I don't know if they'll usurp the DNA in my daily usage, that remains to be seen. Good luck with your choice!
==ETA==
Reception: My wife has never before commented on my phones and their reception. However when I started using the DNA she said, "Your phone sounds a lot clearer than it has in the past. Have you been somewhere other than your normal place for talking to me while at work?" I've noticed the DNA is as good or better than the Moto for reception and voice quality; IMHO that's not at all a reason to give up the DNA.

As a Moto owner (Bionic) I find it interesting that you think updates come quicker for Motorola than for HTC. Its not the brand, its VZW!
On a side note, I'm considering the DNA as a replacement for my Bionic. I'm mainly concerned that I'll be switching from one red-headed step-child to another! Currently waiting to see what happens with the HTC One before I make my decision.

I work for Verizon and I have the DNA as my personal phone and the Razr Maxx HD as my work phone. I can tell you I like both I don't think either is bad but there are pros a cons. for me I like the 32GB of internal and up to 64GB MicroSD card support on the Razr. I love the battery on the Razr like 2 to 3 days with good usage. however cons horrible camera. The dual core lags and the phone freezes more for me. also the screen is no where near as good. also I and I will get a lot that disagree actually like Sense over motoblur. Mind you I have Sense 5. Also I love the wireless charging in the DNA. Personally I am waiting I have heard we are getting a DNA+ soon and S4 is coming amongst a few others.

"Because it's a motorola" is a completely valid answer. They have *never* been good at tuning radios for use on VZW's network. It's always been crap, from the OG Droid to the new RAZR line, and the Bionic was a massive failure in that category, worse than others. The only thing Motorola knows how to do is build decent material-quality handsets. Everything else about them is less than sub par.

I "should" be happy, except that I'm running CM10.1, so I haven't even bothered with the JB update. To be honest, I was really surprised that they even pushed the JB update out. It took forever to get ICS, and don't forget all the radio issues with the Bionic.
Still, I can (and may) upgrade next month. Not totally happy with any of the options at this point, so I may hold on a little longer. I've even contemplated buying a used phone and leaving my contract as-is for now in case I get totally frustrated with VZW and decide to jump ship.

I was pretty surprised about the JB as well; I think Moto is trying to make up for the bad mojo created early in the life of that device. Back in the day I went through a couple of them and agonized over terrible radios, poor battery life, a year before an official ICS was released, bad camera, etc...you know the drill. I couldn't handle it and jumped ship for a GNex (at the time).
Regarding not upgrading, I highly recommend sticking with the used market and leaving the contract alone or going month-to-month. Especially since VZW pushed the upgrade cycle from 18mo. to 24mo., even the economics of upgrading don't make a whole lot of sense to me. Of course I'm grandfathered in to unlimited data so they can pry that out of my cold, dead hands. The secondary market really isn't bad, and it's especially safe on eBay. Generally you can catch a price break on CL, but there are a lot of shady characters pushing some bad deals - if you know what to look out for though, it can be navigated.
Good luck with your choice, and with whatever device you choose next.

True. Then again what real staying power does any king of the hill have? Only until the next younger, stronger, smarter, faster, better looking, more nimble, blah, blah, blah....shows up. In all seriousness, I am really impressed with the way the Bionic hardware and build can still almost keep up with the current pack. Says a lot about Moto, at least Moto ca. 2010.

Very good point. So my real question, and reason for posting in this thread, is to find out if the DNA might be the next phone to do the same... Although I have my concerns about the fixed internal battery and lack of microSD.
I had a RMHD bought through Bestbuy. I loved the build and feel of it, the battery was amazing , but the thing that pushed me away was the horrible lag and screen redraws. It drove me crazy. Now having had a Note 2 which for me was too large, I decided to switch to the DNA last Saturday and am pretty happy so far. Size and speed are great , battery is decent (nowhere near RMHD or N2) but fine for my usage. Bought the wireless charger and like it also. That's just my experience. Had the RMHD not lagged so much I would have gone with it .
