[Q] Unlock HTC Thunderbolt SIM - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I understand that this has been posted several times but I feel my question is a different in the reason that this phone will be used in a lab environment only.
I've been digging for ways to unlock the thunderbolt and I've come across many websites claiming they can unlock with a SIM unlock code if given the IMEI.
Here is my situation. We have here in our lab a LTE network in the same frequency range acceptable to the HTC thunderbolt. We've seen the Thunderbolt try to attach but of course we fail because we can't use our own SIM with all the parameters to pass Authentication.
From what I've read on other HTC phones when you put in a new SIM I should get a screen asking for an unlock code. This never pops up we just get an invalid SIM error. So is there a manual way to get this screen to pop up? Are there any other ways anyone could think of to allow me to use my own SIM for our network? The phone is rooted if that helps at all.
Thanks!

Call Verizon - They can unlock it for free - just explain your going on vacation overseas only thing i can tell you...
your allowed 1 free unlock per device then if you decide on another device wait past 6 months so you have another
chance to unlock the next device you get...

Have you been able to unlock the SIM on the thunderbolt yet - have same config in lab and want to use alternate SIM card for testing

I'd be interested in knowing how this went too....

Right when I got my TB and before I rooted, I was messing around with the privacy settings and I locked the SIM to see if I liked that feature. Something happened and it kept asking me for the IMEI, even though all I had set was a PIN. I called Verizon, quickly got tier 2'd, and the woman there gave me the IMEI without any problems. So if all you need is the IMEI, then all you really need is a good story

hahahaha, sounds good!
So, am I right in saying that VZW is the only one with LTE right now? Pretty much makes SIM unlock worthless (for now) except for those of you who are lab testing and such?

I'm doing Lab work with an Interphase LTE testrig at the moment.
Anyone succeeded with this unlock yet?

Sorry for the very late feedback.
So unfortunately we've had no luck finding ways to unlock the TB. We put a few weeks worth of work into it, and decided we had higher priorities to work on.

The IMEI code can be obtained on any TB by just looking behind the battery. The way these unlock services work, as I understand, is they use your IMEI code to run through some algorithm that will give you an unlock code. A lot of phone vendors use these special algorithms to lock their phones and they take in the IMEI code as input.
Now we did try one of these services but when we put in our SIMs according to other sites I've seen the phone should ask us for an unlock code. This unlock code is what you get from either you're service provider or someone selling the service to unlock devices. Unfortunately we never see any screen to even attempt to input this code.
So that's where we are with this.. Maybe we'll look into it again in the future.

Verizon doesn't lock them. It will only ask for an unlock code if you first lock your SIM (menu/settings/security/set up sim card lock) You'll want to call VZW to get the PIN, you might want to ask for the PUK at the same time. They gave me both, no questions asked.

When I say "unlock" I mean unlock the phone to allow for multiple SIM card use of different carriers... And like I said in the first post, we have an LTE network here in our lab, that is completely compatible with the HTC phone. We see messages being exchanged between the phone and our network.
We need to be able to use our own SIMs so that we can pass all authentication necessary to attach to our network. Unfortunately the Thunderbolt gives a "invalid SIM" error when we pop in our own SIM. So verizon must have some kind of special sauce that needs to be broken.

Do your UICCs have both USIM and CSIM applications on them? The TB is a special case phone, since it uses both CDMA and LTE networks to communicate. It may also be looking for an ISIM app. Finally, unless you also have CDMA running in your lab, the phone may still not come up on the network.

Any updates on this?

HTC Thunderbolt SIM CARD issue
You know after dealing with over three people I have spoken with I have told them that I need talk, text, web, mms and apps the whole nine yards now, I am dealing with some real issues I am giving in and I need someone who can flash my phone or program it to something I really don't care what even if it's a new activation.
I am currently using PagePlus Cellular so if you know anyone out there please let me know, I am ready to do this ASAP!
If you can beat the price of $50 dollars I am willing to listen.

If you put in the SIM card from another provider, you will get a "SIM CARD UNRECOGNIZED" error on boot. To fix this, go to settings -> wireless and network -> mobile networks -> and APN settings. In the menu there should be a locked APN listing. To unlock it, simply press the menu key and choose to revert to default settings, and then refresh. It should now allow you to modify the APN settings. Just insert them with ones from the old phone that you pulled the SIM from, and reboot. I was able to switch this phone to T-Mobile no problem

So, your thunderbolt works fully with a t-mobile sim in it?

You can get the unlock code from My Verizon off their website.

[Q] Is it possible to remove network lock without an unlock code?

I have reviewed similar threads for a few days but have not found any answers. The simple question I have is in the title:
Can you unlock the ATT Atrix without an unlock code.
However the situation is a bit more complicated and ill explain.
I have been traveling the past few months and was in Costa Rica for a month. I decided to purchase a local SIM so I could use my phone without paying ridiculous ATT roaming charges. I inserted the SIM and it was locked, unaware of the network lock I inserted my personal code thinking that may be it. No luck and returned to my old ATT SIM. At this point it still worked but a few days passed and I tried again, still no avail so I contacted ATT. It just so happened the 6 month mark was coming up from the original purchase date of my phone so they would provide the unlock code in 4 days time. I waited and finally received, after inserting the code it did not work and I contacted ATT back to assure they provided the proper code as they had to send me a replacement phone a few months prior due to my original Atrix crapping out. They checked it out and determined it was correct but it never worked. I finally inserted my original ATT SIM back into the phone and it also requested network unlock code. Now I am back in the states and even with the original ATT SIM it still requests for the network unlock code. I tried unlocking and flashing with CM7 beta and STILL requests unlock code. So basically the phone is useless for network data but will work fine as a mini tablet i suppose connected to WIFI.
So with that explanation does anyone have any idea on bypassing this or removing this entirely, not even to use overseas but just on the ATT network!
Additionally
ATT provided me with another Atrix to alleviate my troubles so im not entirely phoneless. However I would like to sell one of these and possibly purchase the GS2 0_o
I have contacted 3 cell phone unlocking sites explaining the situation and only one has responded but not with any answers.
HELP!
if you got a new phone, is it still asking for a network unlock code?
No. Its working fine, but I still have this perfectly good working phone I would rather use and sell the brand new one. Unless I cant get rid of this unlock problem I suppose Ill sell it as is. Any takers?
Hi, I talk to att once when i want to unlock my atrix and they told me if the phone is more than six months old the give you the unlock code for free.
so for the atrix if that is your phone you can ask att for your code since august 21.
just call att customer support.
hope this help.
try a diff sim card with data plan and see if it still asks for code
or try flashing a custom rom
I suppose I was not clear in the OP. ATT DID provide this code for me. I did flash a custom rom already.
As far as using a different SIM card I tried to use a second SIM that ATT provided and still nothing.
I am assuming this is a very unique situation and probably wont find any answers unless someone has successfully unlocked the phone by flashing some special ROM.
Flashing a ROM of any kind will never sim-unlock your phone.... ever. period.
The only way to resolve this is through AT&T. The only way to sim-unlock is with the code it requests.... must have proper code. That is the only way. So, I would talk to AT&T about it, in person, at a local store.
I unlocked the inspire 4G simple by rooting and flashing a custom rom didnt ask for network password after that it worked on tmobile
With edge service no. 3g or 4g different bands between tmobile and att

Just the info I was looking for. Basically the phone is boned in that case. Spent a good with with ATT advanced tech support and motorola to no avail.
What I do want to know is WHERE this information is stored out of curiosity. It seems the modding community would have tinkered with some hacks to remove the sim lock at some point.

Tried to screen shot it but it wont allow in the screen. The request comes as soon as I turn the phone on. If I dismiss it I can use the phone I just wont have cellular access.
Ok so I am reposting and not editing as I feel this deserves a bump.
I got my new Atrix unlock code from ATT today and tried it on the new Atrix I received and that one ALSO will not unlock.
Is there ANY ATT Atrix sim unlocked and if so how did you go about doing it? I have only found one thread and no response via PM.
How to SIM unlock Atrix!
I have read both your post and I believe you used a ATT sim card that was not in use or a GO phone Sim card. Am I correct so far? To sim unlock you have to insert a non ATT sim card!! No go phone sim card or a non active att sim!
Call one of your friends and borrow a Verizon sim or Tmobile sim. You only have 5 tries to do this. So as for your first Atrix I believe it is already locked permanently to ATT. Dont ruin your second Atrix.

Well I found that if you push #073887* in the dialer it will actually prompt you for the unlock code. I tried this with NO sim in at first and that is when it said it was unsuccessful. However late last night I inserted my ATT SIM back in and tried again just for ****s. Entered in #073887* and typed the unlock code and viola, it worked. Interesting information for anyone who wants to unlock there Atrix WITHOUT another carriers SIM!
But back to my original issue. I wouldn't mind if the original atrix was locked to ATT, at least I would still be able to use it. The problem is that it wont work with ANY SIM. My thoughts is that it is a glitch and locked the phone to... nothing?
To make matters worse I emailed cellunlocker.net explained the issue and they said they thought if they requested a carrier unlock code it would work. Paid the 20 and 10 minutes later they sent me the same unlock code ATT had provided. Now the hassle of obtaining a refund.

Yea. Both.
you have to use a *different* sim card than your regular carrier uses (ex - I'm on AT&T, so i used a Boost Mobile Sim to unlock my Atrix) You cannot use YOUR sim to sim-unlock.

Yes you can, by the method I explained in my previous post. It works!
There may be some confusion. The one im referring to (the original ATRIX) will not unlock with an ATT sim, a TMOB sim, a verizon SIM, or even a Costa Rican SIM. NO matter WHAT the SIM is in the "original" phone it always prompts me for a SIM unlock password. Like I said I believe it to be a glitch, intending to lock it to the ATT SIM but in reality it locked it to NO SIM.
So to restate.
YES you can unlock an ATT Atrix with only an ATT SIM in the phone using the method I explained. ( I did it with the phone in my hand right now)
and
NO my original Atrix will not unlock regardless of SIM installed or method.
i will send you a p.m with my offer
Just out of curiousity did you ever set up the sim card lock feature in the location and security settings. It will ask you for the unlock code every time you turn your phone on...shot in the dark here....

Atrix 4G unlocking SIM

I'm getting a bit frustrated... I have unlocked and rooted the phone and now I"m trying to unlock the SIM so that I can give it to my wife to use with a European Sim Card. I've googled, read and read and so far I've done the following:
1. Placed the European SIM into the phone (that I used in my old TMobile phone to date)
2. Was presented with "Enter sim network unlock pin"
3. Called AT&T and obtained the "unlock code".
I tried that code 3 times so far. After spending a fair amount of time with ATT support on the phone they believe that the "pin" is different from the "code". Btw, the unlock number was confirmed to me by ATT support folks twice... I rechecked the IMEI number twice... and I"m stuck... what do I do? Is there a difference?
Btw, I tried it under CM7 and AOKP
Thanks
SIM vs Carrier Unlock
There is definitely a difference between Carrier unlocking and SIM unlocking. I was steered wrong by AT&T the first time I asked. Essentially, they gave me a code that would allow me to override being locked out of my SIM card (to access phone numbers, etc) as a result of entering the SIM password wrong. This was NOT what I wanted.
I called back, and specifically requested a Carrier Unlock (for using other companies' SIMs), and they then made good on this request. You will need an active SIM from another carrier to get the job done, but if you specify your request to them, hopefully they will get it together. Another option is to buy a code at the numerous online re-sellers, but like I said, AT&T gave me mine for no cost. Good luck to you!

Thanks, unfortunately they keep sticking by their guns and claiming that the code they're providing me with is the proper one.....
Don't try too many times, after maybe 5, not sure, you can permanently lock your phone. It is a security measure.
You nay already know, but hate for you to mess up your phone.
I'm still convinced that there's no way AT&T or anyone else would be able to tell you remotely what the code is.
When you buy new SIMs, they come inside a credit card-shaped piece of plastic. On that card itself (not the sim), there's two spots: one for a PIN and one for a PUK. The PIN is needed because the new SIM defaults to being locked as a security feature. Every time you turn off the phone, the SIM locks itself. Once unlocked, however, you can go into a phone's SIM settings and leave it unlocked permanently for any phone.
You need to find the card that originally came with the SIM.
Chrism suggested not to attempt the wrong pin too many times. It won't lock your phone, it will lock the sim and then require you to enter the PUK code.
I still wonder if it is the phone. When you enter the code, then you can use any sim card. He wants to unlock the phone to work with a different carriers sim I believe.
His problem is with the phone, not with the sim, is it?
Could be wrong.

I believe this is correct. Also, if you are entering the carrier code, and enter it wrong a specified number of times,i'm pretty sure it can lock your phone. I have unlocked well over a dozen, and have always been warned about it....

Reread the OP. The phone is already unlocked and rooted. That means that technically yes, he can use any sim card on his phone.
However, not all sims are sold unlocked. As I mentioned before, it's not uncommon to buy a prepaid sim outside of the US (like the OP's Euro sim) and be asked to enter the sim pin upon start up.
If you reread the OP, you'll see that he's describing exactly what I'm talking about. I've had to do this a handful of times on a handful of unlocked phones.
Regarding locking the device, again, the OP phone is already unlocked so locking the actual phone due to entering the incorrect pin is impossible. It would be the sim that would be locked (since the phone is asking for the sim pin) and could only be restored by entering the PUK. I've had to do this a couple of times myself for people who had forgotten their sim pin but still had their original card info at home. Once you enter the PUK, it works again.
i would Spend the 20 or 30 buck online and get a diifferent code

Regarding post #8
I agree with post #9 as well.
Maybe so, not my experience though. He has unlocked the bootloader and rooted. He has not carrier unlocked. I don't think that they are the same, but you could very well be right. Thanks. At least we are all trying to help him out.
That sim seems to already be unlocked if he has been using it in a T-Mobile phone to date. His ATRIX is still network locked.
OP. Let us know please. Now I am curious.
Thanks.

I still haven't read where the OP stated he unlocked the bootloader. Rooted, yes. When I read "unlocked," I take that as "Carrier unlocked" the way that googling "unlocked cell phone" would bring up unrestricted/debranded/etc. cell phones, not necessarily having anything to do with the status of the bootloader.
That said, the bit about him using the sim on his older tmobile phone made me assume one of two things: he either forgot the code he used for that phone or it's a bad sim.
Granted, not every carrier unlock code works but given that he was getting it directly from AT&T (and it was on their servers), it should work. My Atrix, for example, required a code off Motorola's servers and even then the first code worked perfectly.
Trust me, if the OP has gone through all this trouble and the only thing left is to try the SIM pin then... 1+1=?
With the ATRIX you usually unlock the bootloader first, but that would explain some confusion.
Hey, I'm not trying to argue or anything.
OP, what unlock did you perform?
This thread is seriously non reality based.
Neither rooting nor unlocking has anything to do with getting the subsidy unlock code that allows non-ATT sims to be used.
ATT can cerrtainly provide the vaild code, and has always done so for me (albeit after possibly a await time).
3rd parties MIGHT be able to provide the same code. YMWV.
There have been some reports (search) that with the wrong radio the unlock code does not take. So ithat might be a way to go.
Wow, we are going round and round. Good luck.
Use search!!

Try THIS Thread---->Solved: Sim Unlock Fails With Valid Code
Sorry for taking so long to reply but for whatever reason I missed the email saying that there are replies. Anyways, lets recap
Phone is rooted and unlocked. I can run any ROM that I want and bootloader is unlocked.
The sim cards I am testing on (yes, plural) are not locked (as in they do not require a code).
I am trying to use a non ATT sim card (specifically I am trying TMobile EU) so that when I go traveling to EU again I can use the ATRIX with my local number that I keep rather then the ancient HTC windows phone that I have used to date....
I have made 4 attempts at unlocking so that means I am down to last one.....

[Q] use of a foreign sim

Ok so I (foolishly) bought a galaxy s4 with verizon even though I was moving overseas to Israel in two months. I made sure that the phone was world capable (like it can do cdma and gsm) and the guy at the store said it would handle foreign sims no problem. Once I arrived here I got a new sim. I figured out that it needed to be in gsm. From then on it had the service bar and confirmed it was connected to Orange. Since then I have been able to receive calls and texts, but not make them, every time I try to make a call before one ring I get a prerecorded message saying that my number cant be completed as dialed. I have tried several things already to fix this: to a cell phone repair person, to the local sim carrier where a lady tried using the sim of her own phone, customer service at verizon and samsung (who both told me to go see the other). I also did a factory reset which didnt do anything.
my phone is not rooted and is schi545 ME7. I will root if I have to, but if I dont I would prefer not to for the time being
Anyway I suspect the problem has something to do with the fact that I got the phone from verizon. Every time I start the phone I get the Verizon logo and after a minute I get a notification from the verizon set up wizard saying that I have a non verizon sim and that the sims source is unknown. I also tried disabling the verizon security and was able to make the notification go away but the problem persists.
Can someone with experience with this kind of stuff help me please? Thank you so very much:good:

all LTE Verizon phones after Galaxy Note 2 are factory unlocked it must be a APN issue. Try maybe to do a factory reset and as previous poster suggested do the steps he told you to change the APN or look into I think it's called HiApn in Play Store.
Also try to put it in global mode or GSM? play with the settings.
still having problems
Thanks for all the input everyone but my problem still persists
I downloaded HiApn and followed its instructions to which told me to set up 3 Apns. I noticed that only one of them can be active at the time. I tried with each one active and I still can not make phone calls. Does anyone have any other ideas?

Go to Setting, call setting, disable the prefix international. I have done the same for using Verizon S4 in Indonesia.
Mine was not unlocked either, although I knew this before buying. This is a guide I tried (without success) to unlock it on my own.
Like the last poster, I reside in Indonesia, but I was never with Verizon. I rooted mine and have had no problems since.
Ok so I went to call settings and the closest I found was assisted dialing for international calls and the option to turn it on or off. I played with that for a bit and it didnt work.
I also tried the code and it said connection problem or invalid code
during my fiddling I came upon an app that showed promise of fixing my problem if I had adb shell. Does anyone have a good place to get that? I tried a few that didnt work out for me. There was another that showed promise but it wouldnt send a package no matter what I try
Thanks
If you want ADB, you need to download Android SDK and have Java Runtime Environment also installed. Then, it is just a matter of typing in "adb" into the command prompt of Windows.
Is there a serious conflict for you not rooting the device? The true benefit of doing this is to get SIM cards from anywhere to work, and to allow certain apps to work. Rooting is simply a matter of bypassing security parameters. As long as you follow instructions strictly, you won't have an issue using the phone as it should be used.
yea I suppose I could try to root it. Im just not great at that stuff and am worried about messing up my phone permanately

But everything works now

[Q] Using the Galaxy Note without a data plan?

I just got an unlocked galaxy note that I want to use without a data plan so I tried transplanting my AT&T flip phone sim to the note but I get a message saying "sim not allowed mm#3". So of course I can't make any calls other than emergency. Does AT&T restrict smart phones to use only sims that have data plans? Do I need to root and use cyanogen to get this to work? Does anyone if that will even work?
Thanks
Hish
U sure it's unlocked? That message usually means it isn't...
Use the free unlock available, I used it without issue on my note. You'll should be able to use ANY Sim with an unlocked phone, regardless of data or no data.
The Amazon seller advertises it as unlocked. That's all I can say for sure. Does the unlock you refer to require root? Would you happen to have a link to the unlock?
Thanks for the help.

A little searching goes a long way sir. Googling "i717 Sim unlock xda" would have got you what you needed.
You don't need root, but you do need a custom recovery. Twrp is easily installed via Odin.

Sure, you are right and normally I do search...everyone's run a stop sign at least once right?
Thanks for the help ice.

Yes, at&t won't let you use any smart phone without a data plan. They will just add it to your bill.
But this phone won't connect to the network without an updated sim card.
You don't need root access or network unlock to run an at&t sim, you just need a sim made for a smartphone.

I'm fairly certain you are incorrect. Its your sim card and you can put it in whatever phone you choose.
With that being said I am in Canada and on Rogers, so I can't very well confirm this. Maybe someone else can weigh in?
If an unlocked phone uses another carrier sim you get a screen to enter unlock code.
He is using an at&t sim so its going to connect to the voice/sms network automatically in an at&t branded phone if the sim is compatible.
That old flipphone sim won't work in a smartphone. The OP either needs to upgrade the sim or call at&t and have the sim reprovisioned (if they can).
---------- Post added at 12:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:29 PM ----------
And when the OP calls at&t they will tell him to use that phone he will have to buy a data plan.

Yes that's true, I'm not disagreeing with you here on the connectivity.
The later however is false. I know for a fact LTE capable smart phones are backwards compatible with "3g only Sims" aka his flipphone sim, so what you're saying is incorrect. I work with this kind of equipment on a daily basis at work.
The later is also false. All he needs to do is go to a corporate store and say he lost his old phone and sim with it, and needs a replacement. They'll provide a new one, and link it to his existing account and merely charge him a replacement fee.
I thought Canadians were polite . . . Amigo, you're just offering your opinion, but I just went through this with at&t for my sister-in-law. She had an old HTC flipphone and wanted my HTC smartphone with a great keyboard. We put her old sim in and got that error code. We went to an at&t corporate store, and they gave us a new sim and we left with a working phone. After a day of using it she got a text message saying a two gig data plan was required. When she didn't acknowledge that, they cut off the account.
The sim was free. Don't tell me I'm wrong when you don't really know what you're talking about.
I can sim swap between my work phone which is a flip phone and an iPhone 3GS both are on at&t without any issues so I'm not sure what you guys are having trouble with. I believe what the OP is asking for would require spoofing an IMEI of a flip phone aka dumb phone.
There should be some info on how to do that in the at&t Galaxy Tab forums.
Good luck

You can use an old flip phone sim card in the Note. I have an older Cingular 3G Sim card (now at 8yrs old or maybe older) that I have been using in my last few smartphones. Including the Note. Worked perfectly fine. And because my phone was Canadian I was able to add the MediaNet unlimited data plan for only $10 a month. Been using it that way for years without an issue. I have even tested it in AT&T branded smartphones briefly and never had any issues.
Edit: Searching the web, that error may mean there is an outage in your area. If you physically look at the Sim Card what color, words, and pic is on the card? Sim could be worn out also. But in the end ATT will not let you use that plan with this phone for long before charging you.

The two posts following yours confirmed what I was originally saying sir, and quite frankly I do know what I'm talking about. I work ICT for a North American wide company and regularly travel to the states supporting events that require this kind of connectivity.
As for you're sister in law, she probably got that message because a background app was attempting to use data, and it wasn't disabled on the phone, thus the text. This I have also encountered.
Back on topic, I agree there may be a network outage in your area. But if all else fails a visit to the AT&T store can't hurt. Worst case scenario just sell the note on Craig list
Lol here in the US we dont have kijiji, but an alternate called craigslist. I do believe using the sim unlock method plus deactivating data might work. Try using the phone in another area to confirm ices theory of an outage.

[Q] Gear S =Phone Not Allowed MM#6

Hello Everyone.
I am stumped on this issue. There doesn't seem to be any solutions for me. Here is What's happening, then I will tell you what I know..
Originally an ATT watch. SM-R750A
The IMEI is perfect. Not black listed at all. (Verified with ATT,SAMSUNG, and TMOBILE)
It is unlocked by ATT - I received the code and used it with the Tmobile Sim card inside when prompted. Success.
ATT Sim cards work perfectly, and with 4G!! When my Tmobile Sim goes in there, it only allows Emergency calls.
The APN settings are automatically populated. Verified to be correct with Tmobile. Basically, everything is fine on their end..
I am getting the run around from all 3 sources. They point the finger at each other.
Example:
Tmobile :"ATT did not unlock it completely, call them and ask for it to be fully unlocked."
ATT: "Once we gave you the code, our hands are tied. Call samsung, they may be able to complete your request.."
Samsung: "This is a service/network issue. Contact who ever your sim card has service with.."
Please help me, I have tried everything I can think of.
I researched all over the internet.. There are no working solutions anywhere!!!
I even Oden flashed the Official Firmware from ATT to Tmobile, so now my Model # is SM-R750T. I get the same errors. Att sim cards still work perfectly.
:crying:
I added photos of a menu I found on the device.. I dont know what this means..
I can draw conclusions, but I still need help..
Also, I have had the Tmobile Sim card replaced twice..
If someone could help find a solution, this will help a LOT people!
Thank You AHEAD of time.
did you flash the entire firmware package?
I only flashed official firmware from ATT to TMOBILE.. That was all. If there are further steps please let me know.
I stopped at the firmware install because I thought anything extra would have just been for customizing themes, etc..

Tmobile :"ATT did not unlock it completely, call them and ask for it to be fully unlocked."
From my understanding, there are no levels of unlock permissions. Once a device is unlocked, it's done on all levels and access.
It is unlocked by ATT - I received the code and used it with the Tmobile Sim card inside when prompted. Success.
The unlock code needs to be entered on device while connected to the ATT network...not TM's. My initial suggestion is kindly call back ATT and with the correct IMEI/ATT Sim inserted, enter unlock code again. You may need to flash back to xxxA first.
My thought here is the phone isn't unlocked according to ATT's server's Device ID data...when you reestablished connection with ATT, it locked the device again.
[Q]
You said that you got the unlock code from ATT, with TM Sim inserted, and it was a success....
Why did you go back to the ATT Sim again if you had it working?

Try this. Go to phone dialer, type in *#2263# , dont hit call , just wait for the menu. When it comes up, select GSM band preference and if its an option, choose GSM 1800. Then swipe down to exit.

The unlock code worked. I was not prompted to enter another unlock code. I received success notification. I immediately got the error code that you see in the pictures. Could not dial out. So i went to ATT store for some hands on troubleshooting. But I will try to use the sim card idea you mentioned. I will come back with an update.

The same here. I'm from Vietnam. My boss from USA visited Vietnam office and gifted me a T-mobile Gear S with the unlock code from T-mobile. Before unlocking the network, i upgrade it with the latest firmware from T-mobile (R750TUVU1A07). I then inserted a VN carrier SIM and did follow T-mobile guide as below:
1.Insert a Non-T-Mobile SIM & turn the Gear S ON.
2.The Gear S will automatically prompt you to enter the unlock code.
3.Tap in the unlock code provided by T-Mobile and click OK.
Note: The device should display code accepted

After i receive the successful message, i still cant make call or send message. It keep saying that "Mobile network is not available". I tried with 3 nano sim cards from 3 biggest carriers in VN but there is no luck. (These sim cards work well on the iPhone 5).
BTW, the GPS also didn't work, even before or after unlocking with the code. It keep saying "GPS signal too weak. Please connect the Gear to mobile device via Bluetooth" (or something like that).

You most likely will not be able to use a North American S outside the US. It has nothing to do with the software...the frequency bands are different and hardcoded. You may want to check and see what bands are used by the providers in VN for cellular ie: 2G, 3G, etc and compare those to what US/Sprint uses.
I have the same issues with the GPS. Even when I'm outside, in an open area I can't even get the weather app to update. Not sure how many people have this issue, but it doesn't seem to be a topic of discussion on XDA.

This is from "CELLUNLOCKER" where I got my unlock code...before it was free...lol....... When I click on the t mobile for network....I get "registered to networkk" popup with my ATT GS. When I call a number I get the tmobile cust servc help line...... since I am not a tmobile cust.
I cannot remember which method I used....but I can go with att or tmobile sims with no issues. Right now I have H20 as my carrier, on the ATT network...but at least I know I can go to the Tmobile network or carriers anytime
How to enter unlock codes on all Samsung models
Different phones have different Unlock Code Input Instructions, Try the following Instructions in order:
Note: Non Accepted Simcard is any simcard not from the original provider
Method #1 Insert a Non accepted simcard in your phone and power on. Once finished loading your phone will ask you to enter a code, enter the Unlock Code
OR
Method #2 (NOT applicable for newer Samsung phones, ie. Galaxy S3, S4, S5, Note 2, Note 3, etc)
Go to the dial screen on your phone as if you are going to make a call and press: #7465625*638*UNLOCKCODE# (8 digit unlock code)
OR
Method #3 (NOT applicable for newer Samsung phones, ie. Galaxy S3, S4, S5, Note 2, Note 3, etc)
Go to the dial screen on your phone as if you are going to make a call and press: #0111*UNLOCKCODE# (8 digit unlock code)
OR
Method #4 (NOT applicable for newer Samsung phones, ie. Galaxy S3, S4, S5, Note 2, Note 3, etc)
Go to the dial screen on your phone as if you are going to make a call and press #7465625*638*# Once prompted for code, enter the 8 digit Unlock Code.
When this method is used for newer Samsung phones, it will say "unsuccessful" regardless of the phone being unlocked or not.
Phone Not Allowed MM#6 Tmobile- A clue to problem?
I also have the same problem...it is frustrating.
i have an unlocked AT&T Gear S ( unlocked thru one of the unlock ebay sites. it seemed to go well, and worked)
i setup account with Tmobile, and it worked, i have had it about 2 months, all OK, until..
i took out SIM to test with my unlocked IPHONE 6+, (i have been thinking of switching all my phones to Tmobile) it also worked OK,
Then i swicthed it back into the Gear S, and the trouble started (unless it was a conincidence),
'Phone not allowed MM#6', it tried everything.
1. reset Gear
2.rebooted thru the gear boot menu
-i called Tmobile, they did not have answer,m they asked me to try a new SIM, which i did online and updated account with new SIM,
same problem.
3.Tmo said maybe not complety unlocked to contact AT&T but i doubted this,
4. I tried a freinds SIM from his Iphone 6+ (on Tmo) it worked great in my Gear Sm and my 'unlocked Ipphone 6'
5. i tried my Gear S SIM in my Iphone, message poped up 'Phone not allowed' (this time no MM#6)
6. called Tmo again (maybe 3rd time) suggested another new SIM card, they everything on there end looks fine, they checked imei, sim card etc, all OK.
i told them from what i have read the forums mentioned a network problem, not a phone problem.
They connected with Samsung, they said they can try reflashing the Gear S, if i send it in to them,
7. i called Tmo again, and i spoke one rep who , GAVE ME A CLUE TO PROBLEM.. he found a note concerning the Gear S,
it said if the user puts the Gear S SIM cards (wiith the 'wearable plan') into another phone, it will block the account until the user reinstalls SIM into Gear S.
8. if this the problem, iit is not reseting itself when SIM is back in Gear S.
9. Not sure what to do next.
the last Tmo rep told to go into Tmo store, and they will try another new SIM, and ask them to try new SIM and my in anoother Gear S, but it seems many tmo stores dont have Gear S on hand, only display it am checking.
10. One idea may be to close the whole account and open new account for the Gear S.
did anybody have luck with this problem?

Call tmo back and have them make sure you have the right data plan I had the same problem and mine was on a tablet data plan not mobile/watch plan
I am experiencing a similar issue with TMobile. My thread is in here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s/help/gear-s-longer-able-to-register-tmobiles-t3040635
I have the factory unlocked international version, SM-R750W, and several people here said it wouldn't work. It worked perfectly for a day, then nothing. New SIM, it worked perfectly again for maybe 5 minutes.

Still no luck, but maybe a couple more clues;
1. As the tech support advised, I went to a Tmo store, and they swapped the nano sim , no help.
2. I put in a sim from my friends tmo iPhone. It seemed great.
3. I called tech support back, they escalated problem to the engineering dept,
Said it may take 2 days to hear back...... So far no luck, please let me know if you have better results.
(I did check the plan online and with support to be sure it was correct.- the wearable / watch plan)
I feel it has something to do with there network 'rejecting' my imeo, but support checked that several times, as said it is correct.

They escalated my situation as soon as I called them on Tuesday and told me 3 days. Nothing yet.
Have you used the Tmobile IMEI check? http://www.t-mobile.com/verifyIMEI.aspx
I just tried it and it doesn't recognize my IMEI....But if that was going to be a problem, shouldn't that have meant it would never work? I can't think of any reason it would work for a day before they shut it off.
I had same result "did not recognize" with there Imei checker, further, the support reps checked several times and said it is Ok, My gear s is an unlocked AT&T, it did work for the first 2 months (until I removed sim to test in my iPhone ( I was considering switching all my phones to Tmo) Maybe coincidence? + But with a friends sim (from his iPhone ) it worked immediately , it even populated the Apn etc settings, but i did not leave on more than 1-2 minutes to test.
When I put my sim back in, it does not register, it does even show phone number, says:
"Phone not allowed MM#6" and emergency calls only.
I had this same issue come up. The way I solved it was to close out the account for my phone number tied to the watch wearable plan. And then I created a new phone account for the wearable plan with a new number. And got a new sim card from T-Mobile at the time of creating the new wearable plan / number. It seems that the phone number that was previously tied to my galaxy gear s was not blacklisted, but the services were limited on it because I had taken the sim card out of the gear s watch and put it into a cell phone to test if there was service on it. So that flagged the wearable phone number account like I was trying to steal data/phone service from T-Mobile by using the only $15 / month plan on an actual phone. Like said above, the services are supposed to be restored once you put the sim back into the watch, but there is a bug with T-Mobile's service in doing so. So in the end, I closed out the "flagged" account, opened a new account and will never put the sim card into a phone again in the future.
same the issue

Before unlocking the network, i upgrade it with the latest firmware from T-mobile (R750TUVU1A07). I then inserted a VN carrier SIM and did follow T-mobile guide as below:
After i receive the successful message, i still cant make call or send message. It keep saying that "Mobile network is not available". I tried with 3 nano sim cards from 3 biggest carriers in VN but there is no luck. (These sim cards work well on the iPhone 5).
BTW, the GPS also didn't work, even before or after unlocking with the code. It keep saying "GPS signal too weak. Please connect the Gear to mobile device via Bluetooth" (or something like that).

So, right now, the Gear S is just a digital watch to me, ha ha.
The error is specifically a sim/network error unfortunately and more importantly this;
9 out of 10 times MM6 error means the phone has been reported lost/stolen and the IMEI has been network blocked.
Here are a few options that could be causing most of the issues I have read;
At&t is NOT open and a fan of allowing devices outside their network. Therefore its possible your device is literally reported as lost/and or locked to at&t and they dont want it on T-Mobile. And your best bet is to raise hell threating an investigation by the FCC.
At&t re-locked your device when att sim is put in.
