[Q] Is there an external antenna port near the battery (see picture) on our Vibrants? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know the captivate has an external antenna port. I see a rubber grommet near where the antenna terminal should be. Has anyone actually taken the grommet off, and tried the port?

Yes indeed that is the external port.
I tried it when I first got my vibrant and needed a better signal for tethering. I now use a repeater but it did work fine.

Strange thing. On my friend's i9000 there is no such grommet. just a bare external antenna connector.

How do you use that port?

yea lol how do u use it, any pics too? I'm intruiged. Never knew those were antenna ports but they do look like it if you remove the gromet! ha learn something new.

What is that for?

You can get the correct connector off ebay,or wilson electronics I believe. It was only about 5 bucks then connect it to a portable cell ant. Or do like I did and buy a yagi ant and mount it outside.
I live in a rural area and I went from 1 bar to full signal inside which made my tethering much more robust.
Just gently pop off the rubber piece and you will see the port.

My semi-homemade carmount

Next wee, my g/f and I will take a little car drive vacation. We'll be visiting landmarks from Chicago to Kentucky to Virginia to DC and back. So, earlier today, I got a brilliant idea for a car mount that will enable me to use a 10 inch gps. Well, as soon as I got out, I went straight to a hardware store and got the parts. I use the top part of the following car mount and incorporated it into my set up.
http://www.buyincoins.com/details/n...r-cradle-mount-for-ipad-gps-product-2492.html
Here are some pictures. I test already test drove around. Absolutely no obstruction of view whatsoever. Also does not obstruct my radio and other stuff there.
Total cost for parts = $11.

Very cool. Any plans on wrapping something around the silver metal, or painting it black or grey?

Love the finished product, but not so keen on the whole drilling holes into your dash.

Hahahaha. I'm not an idiot. I actually openned up my car and checked. There's absolutely nothing underneathe there. It is also not in the way of the airbag.
I highly recommend against anyone doing it. The holes can be covered up pretty darn easily. I'm also one who's loyal to my car(s) so I don't usually trade them in for newer ones often. I drive them til they drop dead.
The point is it looks scary to most people because it is.
By the way, here's a sample video of what I used it for.
Documented my entire trip to DC.

Already did. I'll take a picture of it in the morning. It looks professional now that I've wrapped it in black electrical tape. I've also modified the whole thing to make it look more blended in with the dash.

Help with squeaking battery door?

Anyone have a simple way to prevent the sides of the battery door from squeaking? Mostly on the left side. Anyone else have this issue? Happens on my oem extended and oem standard door. Thanks in advance.

I had the same case and holster for the stock battery from verizon and quit using it after my phone slid out and hit the floor 5 times...
Went back to a leather case that you put the phone in (with belt clip).
perhaps a tad of electrical grease?...

If its the same thing that's happening to me then its not so much a squeak as it is feeling like its not completely on right.

See the original thread. It should have more than enough to show you the way.

That's funny I had an old blackberry cable and tried the same thing. For some reason it would not work for me. So Sunday night I ordered the one from Amazon. It came in today and no more triangle!
I even took it down to see the pin that wasn't soldered (#4). Still wouldn't work.

My original homemade one was just 3 100k and 1 1k 1/4w resisters twisted together in series. Shaped it like a horseshoe in side some tape with the two ends sticking out like 1/8 inch right next to each other but not touching. It was ugly but did the job. I have since ordered one for 2$ also.

[Q] HTC Jetstream Bent pins... Anyone done repair on one yet?

I have had it for years, love it, I let my mom borrow and she tried to force the charger in upside down. Anyone have any info on replacing the usb/charger port? pics, advice, prayers, anything would be better than going in blind. I have not opened it yet, but is the footprint the same as a micro-USB (which I am kinda assuming) could I possible just replace the usb with micro-USB port?
thanks in advance
cheers,

1)buy parts from here:
parts4repair.com
2)select DOCK CHARGING BOARD
3)buy the right one ( one without 4g antena OR the one with if you have 4g tablet )
4)repacement is easy but repair with patience and slow.
5) have fun

I've indicated which three connections that you will have to unplug -- in addition to unscrewing the charging board. The only two tools that you should need are a pry tool (a knife will probably do) and a Philips or Frearson screwdriver.
i had the same idea of doing that, but as far as i know that is impossible

and i wanna fix it.
dont care if i save data, would actually prefer to root it.
i know absolutely nothing about this stuff, but i'm not technically challenged.
i looked at this thread got the drivers installed but, looking at the command its asking me to input i'm not sure where to do that. Do i need a secondary program, or do i need to use my linux machine since i'm gonna go out on a limb and say windows command line wont know what that is?
anyways, please help, if this is the wrong area, i can move it.

well it actually was an accident.
i spilled some water on my kindle. immediately tossed it in a box of rice for a week.
plugged it into the charger now this. so. unfortunately it was an accident. before that it was functioning fine.
Then I have a theory. Your pins 1 and 4 on your USB input has corrosion and is shorting itself out. This is either in the connector or the input.
I would carefully pry it apart and check for this no amount of flashing would fix this if I'm right.
(I've seen this once before and was right)
