Evo 3d 1080p vs Sensation 1080p - HTC EVO 3D

Hey guys i have a question here, when the evo 3d was announced by htc they say it has 3d camera which will be awesome to play with. 1080p 24fps and 720p 3d 30fps but the sensation has 1080p with 30fps. Why? will there be any major difference while recording 1080p between 24fps and 30fps??

The difference will be 6fps

Only thing coming to mind is NTSC video plays at 24 frames a second and PAL video at high 29 fps... The Sensation a non usa phone, right?

Correct. As long as its smooth, doesn't shutter/skip, I'm happy.

Lol yeah, what i tried to ask was if sensation could play smoother video than evo 3d since it has slightly more fps.

You got those backwards. Plus I thought it was said at first that the Evo would shoot 1080/30p. I don't think anybody, even HTC, knows the finalized specs yet.

I 1080p on my phone.... wont it drain the battery?

Lots of misinformation in this thread.. NTSC is displayed at 29.97 frames/second, PAL is 25, and neither of them have anything to do with the recording framerates mentioned here (30 vs 24).
30 (interlaced or progressive) will basically give you the "soap opera" look, it's the reason video looks like video, where film looks like film-- film is traditionally recorded at 23.97 fps PROGRESSIVE, which is largely responsible for that hard to quantify difference between the look of a show on television and the look of something you shot with your handycam.
The two framerates here are a product of these conventions, and a bit of a gimmick for a phone IMO but hey, more features are more features.

So the Evo should have a better 1080 vid capture?
Thanks for the info BTW... will definitely watch for this when purchasing a phone now.

Happy to help. Generally speaking, yes, based on the fact that the 23.97 framerate (Commonly referred to as 24p) is preferable so by extension it would be better to have the option and use it if you can.

Do i hear tweaks?
The stats on this phone are amazing but we all know HTC likes to give us something to do
In other words, theres a chance it can be 1080p 30fps. I only own a HTC Fuze, but someone got this camera working alot better then HTC gave it to us.

Yeah, if it's only an option, and not limited to it. I'd much prefer 30 fps over 24.

Evo 3d confusion

ok guys im a little confused about the evo 3d....is the phone screen in 3d all the time or just the camera takes 3d videos and pictures?
Just when viewing 3D content
No, you can turn 3d on and off at will.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
so i can view like the home screen and texting in 3d?
Screen = will always be 3D, cant turn it off
Camera = You can choose to take a 3D picture or 2D with the switch next to the camera button
3d, 2d, 3g, 4g, to be or not to be.
I haven't read that the screen itself can toggle 3d, just the camera.

yeah i was expecting like the UI sense to be 3d. ehhh i dont know about getting the phone now.
i dont think me buying the phone full price with no upgrade is worth a 3d camera. i hardly ever use my evo camera now.
Who the hell cares about the 3D? It has a dual-core Snapdragon @ 1.2 GHz and 1GB of RAM. You should be looking at the specs. The Evo is an awesome phone, but it definitely lacks in the graphics department. When you use a ROM with a lot of transparencies (like Myn's Warm Z or RLS5), going through the app drawer, for example, is noticeably laggier than using a stock ROM with no transparencies. This should upgrade should fill the void. I think the 3D part of the phone is a gimmick, but the phone itself isn't.
PS I get that the back of the phone is supposed to make it look like a point and shoot camera (the trim across the top/side + the camera button), but for God's sake, couldn't they have made the camera lense flush with the phone body?

this. exactly.
i find that many are bashing it (the phone) as a "non-upgrade", citing the lack of kickstand (really?, lol), and the lack of ubiquity of 3D in the market (in general) as a useless gimmick.
while completely forgetting the Awesome new CPU+GPU, the new Sense, the better Android OS, more RAM, bigger stock batt, and what I seriously hope is a better camera (as we all know more mps is not better pics, I hope they fixed that compression algorithm at least).
I for one am thrilled to get my hands on one, at the very least.

They could have but then people would be complaining that the phone is too big, size wise, in order to make flush cameras, they would have to push out the whole body of the phone, you see why they did what they did now?

Camera better than epic?

So Ive been with a samsung epic on and off since its launch and have gotten very used to a GREAT camera (for a phone). It takes exceptional stills in all light conditions AND probably the best hd video ive seen on a phone. It seems all the droids and htc phones i see videos of on youtube, even brand new ones, that have literally just come out ,still some how dont compare to samsungs cameras on there devices. Ive been patiently waiting for an evo3d because of all of the specs and awesomeness , and my epic is broken and been around the block being fixed too many times anyways so now i am literally waiting on the evo 3d lol, BUT i feel like even on the evo3d , htc just cant compete with samsungs cameras and im going to miss samsung just for that. I dont know how to explain every time i youtube a sample camera video on every other phone it just seems sub par to the epic and or a few few other samsung phones, esepcially when in motion , wich was flawless on the epic, even in the dark.
People always come back with o well if you want quality video and pics then buy a real camera but i came to rely on the phone as a good cary around camera so theres no reason to have to do otherwise when buying a more advanced phone than the last........anybody got any opinions on the evo3ds camera or expectations ?
Can't really compare to the Evo3d yet, though there are some pics on the Evo3d forums, though they don't bode well for the new Evo.

yeah im not holding my breath for a good low light camera on the e3d. You would think that since one of the main marketing features is its camera. I really hope HTC went with better camera hardware, A bigger CMOS/CCD sensor would greatly help in low light settings. I would also like to see more manual settings, A bulb mode would be nice, or timed exposures. Even if they had to buy hardware from samsung. HTC please give us a good camera for once.
I thought the photos and videos on the wirefly video review looked very nice..granted they werent in low light
I really had no complaints about my Evo after I bought Vignette. Video still sucked, but stills were great. 3d looks better on both fronts... And I am one who is pumped about 3d photos.

I'm.sorry your getting a little far fetched now..I've had an hero..and the evo 4g was a great Improvement in everything including the camera..there is simply no way that the HTC hero will be superior to the 3d ...wait till you get the phone and take your own pictures ..
The EVO uses the 8mp version of the Omnivision sensor used in the iPhone 4. Only reason iPhone's is better low light is because there are less pixels so the pixels left are bigger.
The Epic has an extra processor for the camera, plus the Evo's main issue with video was the bitrate it records at.
I thought the pics and the video looked kinda meh in that wirefly review, but I think my Vibrant's camera capabilities are pretty amazing for a 5mp phonecam ... oh well, can't wait to get rid of the rest of samsuck's phone
I thought the camera looked good, He may have not adjusted the setting on the camera for different lighting which would make it appear worse. I noticed how important these setting are on my fuze which takes horrible pictures (compared to the newer phones but that's to be expected).

Also I don't mean to offend but that looks horrible. My Fuze will take a way better picture than that. The glare is just awful. I'm not trying to get into the picture wars, but I have faith in the DEVs here to make me a happy camper. Maybe android people are a lot more impatient and demanding then older members. There's no such thing as the PHONE OF PHONES (As much as we would like), we have to give and take as well plus there a lot of personal preference involved as well.

Any chance the developers can allow for twin 5mp stereoscopic images?

Instead of letting the Evo 3D camera convert our images to a lousy 2mp file, is there any way to take raw control of the cameras to take twin, full resolution images, and save them? Then perhaps through post-processing, create a 3D image file? I hate that I have to choose between quality and 3D when taking pictures.
There doesn't seem to be a good reason as to why the 3D images aren't stored with 2X 5mp data.
If there is no good reason, why did htc this?
Its impossible.

My guess is that the resolution would be overkill for the craptastic 3D view that we get on the device itself. I'm pretty sure most everyone would enjoy having a full-quality 2D 5mp shot alone with our 3D images (of whatever quality.)
There's no reason why you can't create the 3D after the two images are taken.
I am just wondering how likely it would be to gain low-level access to the cameras. HDR would be awesome as well as this.
is the 2nd camera a 5mp camera?

[Q] Why cant we shoot 1080p ?

Hey guys, simple question really...
since it was proved that the sensation and evo hardware are mostly similar
so whats keeping us from shooting 1080p video ?
I THINK it has to do with having two cameras. I'm not 100% sure.
BUT that's not very important. Recording 1080p on your cellphone is just foolish. File sizes would be through the roof and the difference in quality is not THAT big from what I've seen. It's just more pixels.
I think it was just a tradeoff, 3D for 1080p. I believe the Gnex can do 1080p with its 5MP shooter, so I doubt the 5MP cameras we have are to blame.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
Even when it can do 720p, it's not even that good...
Sensation's camera looks much better than ours.
I dont think its the dual sensor thingy..
cuz all camera applications work with no problems so far..
Yeah lots of phones are able to do that with a 5mp cam.. thats what made me wonder in the first place
and I know its 1080p is too much
as for me I dont even use 720p
but I just want to know why we cant ...
It could be done EVO 3d camera takes better pics then Samsung epic can. All about the lighting and clean lens.
Just need a kernel and code for it..
i dont want to be the debbie downer(wommpppp woooooommpp) here but I have never understood shooting 1080p with such a small/crap sensor anyway. The quality would still suck. I believe this applies to all phones. Maybe when new sensor tech comes out but now, its just a marketing number.
camera driverers are kernel related. you would need to write a new driver, new app, pretty much rebuild the camera functions from scratch. it is possible, but an ass load of work and like somebody else mentioned, its a phone, and few phones, including this one, have the hardware quality (because it is much more than just size of sensors) to make it worth while. not like it will have gopro quality ever...

again having owned both. epic touch camera did in fact rape my Evo 3D. owned them both side by side. shot the same scene with each phone and viewed the results on my laptop.
that bring said. that was about the only thing I liked over the e3d. the et4g still wreaked of Samsung and their lack of overall build quality. the earpiece was terrible, the screen was not as responsive, the screen was low resolution, just utterly **** overall.
only other thing I thought was decent was the battery life. I got a solid day out of it.
The video quality is limited by how fast the memory card can save data. To save 1080p on a low end memory card would require a huge amount of data to be compressed in real time, which would both be difficult to do resource wise and also significantly lower the video quality.

yes, and to ad to what Haus is saying, and he knows this already, so it's for the OP, the disk write speed is only one factor out of the several that go into making this possible.
There are image processing limits that are hardware related to the EVO 3D, and let's be serious just about anything that is a cell phone, that would make shooting in true HD simply a waste of space and dev time. that fact of it is that you cannot make the light sensors, image sensors, and glass, in the camera any better. Sure, like i said you could built new drivers, basically engineer/re-engineer the firmware to make 1080p happen, but just would do you any good. you are still limited by the device's hardware.

Pointless anyway. You won't get true 1080p recording on the Atrix until Moto gives it to us. All you will get is psuedo 1080p which is worse quality than the standard 720p. Frame rates are too low and video quality is overall sub-standard. This has been proven several times already.
