Atrix 4G Screen smoothness & framerates - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There's a chance of me purchasing an Atrix 4G and would like to ask some question beforehand.
1) Why do people say not suitable for Bell device on ROM? Is this the worldwide version? And not AT ver.?
2) How smooth is the screen, I mean when swiping, since I came from a iPhone 4 to HTC HD2 and I didn't like the screen as much.
3) Framerates in games? Any much difference compared to LG 2X (Seem some benchmark like 10fps-15fps average lost etc)
4) Does every or most games work? I mean support the resolution?
5) How would the quality be in 1080p in the future update since its a 5MP camera?
6) How many RAM in bootup? 750ish?
7) Battery life? Heavy & Average
8) I've heard the Atrix can get quite hot like the 1st gen snapdragon? Or is it the battery?
Regards, I'm sure a few have already asked this or looking for the same answers.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App

1) Why do people say not suitable for Bell device on ROM? Is this the worldwide version? And not AT ver.?
Ans: ATnT version released first and got i think two updates (mostly bugs fixed) and due to this reason developers started working on ATnT and developing it mostly, but as soon as Global Generic version will release bye bye ATnT.
P.S:Root is available for all devices (bell and ATnT.
2) How smooth is the screen, I mean when swiping, since I came from a iPhone 4 to HTC HD2 and I didn't like the screen as much.
Ans:After a fresh reboot choppy for 5 min max after that no lag at all.
3) Framerates in games? Any much difference compared to LG 2X (Seem some benchmark like 10fps-15fps average lost etc)
Ans:Most of the games are now optimized for Tergra2 so no more FPS problems.
4) Does every or most games work? I mean support the resolution?
Ans:Yeah.
5) How would the quality be in 1080p in the future update since its a 5MP camera?
Ans:I think 1080p recording will be ok. after all it is a mobile phone what u expect a 60fps video ???
6) How many RAM in bootup? 750ish?
Ans:With the help of Android System Information i am able to check that 818mb of ram is showed (must be reserved by GPU and DOC ****) and out of 818 570mb ram is available for user and after usage of 2-3 days i am still having 400+ available ram for usage and no slowing down or lag any ware ever.
7) Battery life? Heavy & Average
Ans:My friend play lots of Fruit ninja on my mobile (1-2 hours straight) and that wont even budge battery. And i use internet via Wifi quite a lot. so Heavy usage 1 day and if u use aveerage (sms calls and email then 1.5-2 days max)
8) I've heard the Atrix can get quite hot like the 1st gen snapdragon? Or is it the battery?
Ans:1Ghz Dual core phone (processor with 6-8 cores {audio,GPU.etc}) little hotness is there not burning hand and stuff.
P.S:heavy usage can even make iPhone warm (personal experience).
Hope this answers ur concerns.

Please need help to decide, GSII or OX2!!

Ok first of all, thanks to all people that give me an answer.
i whant the phone for:
1- Play Games
2- Listen music
3- Whatch, record, FHD content at the best quality ( bitrate )
4- Use as digital camera. ( best image quality with tweaks )
5- Wich have the fastest DSP
6- Speed transfers ( internal and external )
Can you give me test, on default frequency of both ?
i have ear, the optimus 2X at the same frequency 1.2 Ghz runs faster than GS2...
Yes i know this is SG2 forum, but i think you have more information than i can found on google.
after that, thanks, and forgive my bad english.
sgs2 hands down, its the best phone out by far, most products dont even compareeeeeeeeeeeee to it, no way its faster at the same frequency haha
GS2
SGS2. Had an optimus 2x but it had reboot problems like many other people, dont buy one
SGS2, no doubt.
I didn't even consider the Optimus when I was researching my purchase a few months back (I was undecided between the SGS2 and the Atrix). Ended up buying the SGS2.
First of all, read some reviews. There are direct comparisons of both phones on YouTube as well as countless head-to-head benchmarks (here's one).
The SGS2 is simply faster. Both in synthetic tests and in real-world use. Samsung has done an incredible job of optimizing TouchWiz for the hardware, there is simply no lag at all no matter what you run on the SGS2. I can't say that LG has done the same.
Also, 1GB RAM > 512MB RAM.
That said, if gaming is your main focus, stick with Tegra2. While the SGS2 plays most of Tegra2 games, you'll have to jump through some hoops to make them run (Chainfire 3D).
But even then, if mobile gaming is your main focus, why not go for an iPhone that has a much bigger library of quality games? Or, still, why not wait for the PS Vita?
errrr did you also post in the O2X forum ?
because answers might not be the same LOL
PS: stick with GS2, you won't regret it !

[Q] Should I make this trade? :P

Should I make this trade guys? I am offered a G2x in great condition(Comes in box) for my MyTouch 4G. So far I like my MyTouch4G. Running smooth and great but this offer has me quite interested. However I would like the opinions of people who own a G2X and not just some reviewer for a site that is probably getting sponsored and doesn't want to be too harsh . or even better someone who has owned 2 devices.
Here is a small summary of things I would like.
-Great battery life
-No hardware problems
-Great XDA Dev support
Thanks in advance! Also I think this is the right section, I looked at all the other ones and I am sure this is it. Sorry if it isn't >.<.
I bought a G2X for my brother and I tested it for quite awhile. Its a great phone. In short if you can trust what the person says and are willing to take the risk, go for it.
Here are the pros:
- G2X has a dual core tegra 2 processor 1 GHz (very fast) vs the Mytouch 4g's single core snapdragon 1 GHz processor (good but not future proof)
- G2X has an 8 megapixel camera vs the Mytouch 4g's 5 megapixel camera
- G2X has a 4.0 inch screen vs the Mytouch 4g's 3.8 inch screen
- G2X has an HDMI port, the Mytouch 4g does not
Cons:
- Slightly less battery life, due to the G2X having a monster dual core processor
But battery life is relative, it depends if you will keep vanilla android or install a custom rom like cyanogen or miui, you could see your battery life improve greatly by rooting and using a custom rom while using root only apps like Setcpu which configure your processor to save battery while the phone is idle.
Long story short, if the phone is in good condition, do it and goodluck!

Link between temperature and over using of CPU ?

Hello,
Do you think that the SG3 warm up because CPU is over using by process ?
because i play with "Quest and sorcery" and the SG3 warm up (by using 3G for one part ), but it doesn't a heavy user of 3D.
Do you think it doesn't necessary to use all the 4th Core ?
And do you think it can be fix by an update of ICS or it must be by a better coding of applications ?
Thanks
Usually apps do not use all 4 cores. Games usually have up to 3 threads; Graphics, Player-Interaction/Map and AI.
However your phone is running more than only the game simultaneously so the 4 cores do help.
3G, depending on your network signal, creates noticeably heat.
Is it really that bad or are you just wondering?
I'm sure there is potential to reduce the CPU-usage of the systems (there are experimental patches out there) but 99% of what you are experiencing is either the app or it's requirements.
Thanks,
I just wondering.
But i found the SG3 is too much warm (up to 53°C, 2 or 3 times and medium is 20-31°C ). and i want to know if i must wait for samsung/google or the authors of apps for a solution.
OR if i'm damned, change my phone ( but i think all is normal a this point)
bye

[Q]one last desicion to make, and i want yours first ; Xe vs Xperia S

hi,
i know some of you wont bother looking at this "another comparison" thread and most of you will think "this is Xperia S forum, what do you expect us to say" but i have opened the same thread to the sensation Q&A section too..
so my last phones were; HTC sensation XE and One X..
and my criterias are, in the using time order;
1) most of the time i ll be listening music,
2) checking my e-mail.
3) using GPS (i travel a lot and alos live on of the most cunfusing citys in the world)
4) web browsing
5) camera using for the places i travel
6) games when i sm not traveling with my car ..
7) messing with the phone, trying to OC (sometimes to get better everyday experience but to be honest most of the time just to feel the power for ego satisfaction and its not like buying the most powerful phone, its more like watching and making the phone grow stronger in your hands)
the 7 is very little time, ones the occupation occurs i am not playing with my phone anymore, i want it to remain as a good assistant and a journey-mate for me.
according to my needings i crossed out SG Note from the list due to its eMMC bug and screen burn problems.. a phone which is famous with its screen should not suffer from screen problems. and also crossed out nexus for not having FM radio and limited storage option (only 16 in my country), and i also crossed the SGS3 and the HTC One X for one being so ugly and having screen burns, and the other for having lots of problems to get over.. i have waited enough android to get mature and i wasnt willing to wait for a phone to do the same and catch up with its software on the quality side, not in 2012..
so let me get to the quick advantages and disadvantages comparison, this is where i want your help about what i list under and add your opinions..
This is %100 my opinions and please change them and advise me if you think any (or all) of them are wrong
Sensaiton XE over Xperia s
- expendable storage option
- good headphones comes with it
- since its the cuisin of the sensation, it has very big development out there and with the way we can S-off and S-on there is no risk of losing the warranty
- since adreno is not designed for fill rate like mali-400 but its good for effects and balancing the load it gives superp performance on the games with a qHD screen
- and the GPU is also OCable when i feel like the performance is not enough (it was alwasy enough, to be honest but still... you know)
- about the development, i am not talking about having lots of kernels and roms out. i have only used CM9 and ARHD so far. what i am talking about is having s-off and not losing the warranty, and having camera mods to have 1080p videos at 30 FPS/40Mbps and photos like 5 MB, and having bravia engine with ARHD etc..
Xperia S over XE
- XEs screen is almost unusable under sunlight and gets dust collected under, but sony has a perfect screen there is no doubt to that.. (but i am afraid of yellow spots, some people says its coused by heat and the S3 Soc is heating on average usage
- GLONASS GPS support. i never used it so dont know about the real life performance but it must be a good thing to have 2 different satelite type instead of one?
- 12 mp camera is better on the stock comparison but i dont know if it can race with the modded sensation camera (please say yes, because my main choice is Xperia S and i just want to make sure i wont look back once i buy it)
- the UI seems smoother overall and litgher then the sense but still i wonder; how is adrenoa 220 doing with that 720p screen? and will there be OC chance in the future?
- 1 Gb of RAM is sure going to be better than the 768MB one especially when it comes to the multitasking
so to sum up, my main concerns are about the camera and the GPU and the screen.. i feel like "ok sensations screen is not good but it will always be that bad in the future too but what happens if my sony's screen loses its quality everyday just because of regular heating of the device? i have given up from all amoled screens because of that thought.
and the camera, since the memory is constant i can understand sony wanting to reduce the image and size but i want less compressed video and photos, especially at night
and the GPU.. will i feel like i need stop one day admit that my device is not enough for playing the newest games just beause it can not handle the georgeus screen in a year? this really scares me. with the development support of sensation it gets 52-53 FPS on the nenamark 2 without OC with the last drivers but the sony is stock in only 37 (i know it will do every game unless it gets under galaxy nexus since it is the referance device for now but still...)
thanks to everyone who is bothered to read this.. and thank you for help..

1) Do you really need it?
2) urBeats - The worst. ****ing. Headphones. Ever.
3) There is no risk of losing warranty on an unlockable device in most countries (i.e. not India).
4) They XPS and the XE both run MSM8260, since you're likely to root it, the clocks are not an issue.
5) And same GPU too.
6) There's a bunch of camera mods (even though stock camera software is quite nice), Bravia Engine doesn't work on anything that's not Sony stock, just adding those files is NOT enough.
thanks for quick reply. i just got a reply from sensation forum too and it says the games are butter smooth with a little bit of OCing. i have seen only one kernel to OC GPU and then the dev has given up on it due to the reporters say it was cousing porblems..
1) i guess not. 26 Gb with USB OTG will be more than enough i guess
2) why are people saying that? i have been using my phones with their own headphones and it believe the beats auido ones are better than the stock iphone ones?
3) thats very good to know thanks, i hope its same in Turkey too
and 6) i ll check them again never noticed any in a few days,
thank you again

2) They might be better than the iPhone stock, but much worse than any actually good ones.

[Q] One X+ speed sucks, more like HTC One X-

Hello, I have been using my new X+ for a few months now, but I am finally at the point were the speed makes the device pointless. My original One X seems to destroy my X+ in every benchmark and just real world gaming. (These are both on AT&T). Any ideas? I feel like the X+ was a major step down from the original, for now in my book I am calling it the HTC One X-
Thanks in advance for any replies..

That sounds like you are doing something wrong.. Running too many background processes perhaps ? Facebook (~40mb) Whatsapp (~50mb ) and BBM (~60mb) + there are heavy launchers Themer (~60mb) All those processes takes a lot of memory and since the HOX* got 1gb of ram only , and 600mb already taken by the sense rom , that means you have less than 400mb free ram.
I used to have similar issues, but i learned to manage my usage, and honestly now i have more battery life and a faster phone.
First of all , always open your recent apps and always remember to remove all the apps you are not using.. This takes a lot of memory.
Secondly, Start monitoring your background processes. Try to download a task cleaner (Although not recommended but useful in such cases) to monitor the usage of your apps and when you have less than 100mb left then you should know you are doing something wrong.
The lag starts around the 100mb mark so its recommended to try to free up ram so you have ~150 / 200 mb free. And once you manage this out your problems will be solved.
Ofcourse I am not saying that only having 1gb of ram in the first place was a good idea, but learn to adjust Good luck

As far as i know the AT&T HOX did not have Tegra3 SoC but a Snapdragon S4 dual core soc, which has a better per core performance i think. Also heavy gaming apparently seems to be far more depending on GPU performance than on CPU and by now it is commonly known that Tegra3 GPU isn't the best thing for gaming and it never was. So I'd say the performance difference between AT&T HOX and HOX+ is related to this.
In terms of benchmarks, do you really care about those scores? They don't say anything about everyday performance, so as long as your phone works smoothly.
I have the international X+ myself (with ARHD8/Sense5 installed) and performance, except high graphics quality games, is very good. After some days without rebooting it suddenly starts lagging, but after a reboot everything's fine again.
Try watching your ram usage as Ghand0ur said, this may help in terms of performance although i never saw my phone using more than ~850MB of ram.
