Is there any way to connect external USB Memory Sticks to my Blackstone? i can combine some cables to connect USB Stick to miniUSB's blackstone does it works? Do i need any drivers? Anybody tested this yet?
as far as i know, the usb port on the blackstone is only a client port. it is only for connections with host devices like a pc (and the charger of course). even though it is an htc extusb port, it is not even compatible with htc accessories, like handsfrees or video out.
you can give it a try using zeno's usb host drivers and a storage device with an active power supply (i.e. external harddisks), but i wouldn't count on it working, your best bet to extend the storage is to simply get a bigger micro sdhc card.

Hello I got a USB gender change: A-Female to A-Female so that i could connect a self powered USB Hub to my Archos.
So far i have connected a self power Hard Disk directly into my Archos 70.
Didn't pick it up.
A mouse in the USB Hub.
Didn't pick it up.
A pen drive directly.
Didn't pick it up.
Is the Archos 70 locked down or does the USB Micro B connector they have on the Archos 70 work different?
I thought USB was a universal connector!
... one thing you have to realize is the device needs drivers to work those devices. you just cannot flip flop the connector and expect everything to work. tipically unless the device has a INPUT port which is a standard usb port not a micro or mini 5 or an old 1.1 usb connector it wont work.

The nokia has been reported to work.
You need a USB "HOST" Cable, it contains a chip that puts your devices on "master" mode.
The Nokia and Archos one work, for the others don't expect them to work at all if they do not mention to be USB "HOST" cables !
BTW, the feedback is not very good, seems that it can deliver only 200mA, so if you want to plug an external disk drive, make sure you have a power supply on it before
Also some USB keys need more than 200mA so they won't mount at all :/

That cable doesn't look correct.
[correction - that cable at kjell looks correct for hooking two USB On-The-Go devices together. So if you wanted to hook your Archos to another Archos or to a blackberry.]
Look for a micro usb Nokia n810 host cable. Or "Micro USB Host OTG". They seem widely available in the us on eBay
Usually they have the micro USB male connector and a full size female connector on the other. Be careful because some are mini USB, you want micro USB
Look on the us eBay for a picture.

Yeah, the connector is obviously wrong on that one. I was mostly curios about whether this USB HOST cable was the same as an OTG.
That's the only cable of OTG type that I've seen in any retail store in Sweden (although I haven't been looking for it until now), so I was thinking of maybe getting it in the store and then get an adapter for the connector. But since there's a special pinning on these cables (as I understand from the Wikipedia article) maybe that doesn't work?
I'll probably go for the Nokia cable anyway, just to be sure, should be able to find it in a retail store somewhere...

this works fine on my 32IT. I can use my microSD adapter, camera, powered hard drive, multi-card reader with SD cards and USB mouse. Other people have said they can't get USB host to work at all, even with this cable, but it works for me.
USB mouse works ok.
But it`s not enought power for 3G USB dongles.... Печалька.

I have read a thread on the usb host mode for the TP (can't remember which of the 8 forums I am on) that the micro usb port WILL support host mode BUT you will need a "Y" cable to provide power at the same time. Do a search for "host mode " on the TP forums and check it out. I have not attempted it so far as I have not found the correct "Y" cable mentioned in the thread.

Basically just search for "USB OTG cable" on ebay, costs about $3. And USB Y-cable. The only two things you need are OTG microUSB cable and USB Y cable to provide external power.
I am still looking into possibility of self-powered usb host mode, with all the support HP built in for it it almost sounds like a given there must be a way to enable it one way or another. Unfortunately chipset documentation is almost nonexistent.

What i've got: unusable pile of crap. The whole system can power up a mouse or gamepad, or external HDD (which is need to be powered from wall socket in addition to TP) but it's much worse with anything else: 16gb flash stick - lights up, but not enough power to read data, USB card reader don't even lights up. And situation with powering from PC USB (instead of ext. battery) is the same.
Anyway, even if the whole system would work, i doubt that you would take all those cables with you wherever you go, so it's useless.

Unfortunately, couldn't get it to work myself.
I tried the same setup I use on my SGII, OTG usb cable + USB key.
It might work with a power source. The USB otg cable alone doesn't work. If you get a USB splitter cable, and plug the extra end into a power source it should work. But ... if you have a power source like a computer you can just plug the TouchPad and card reader both into the computer, and transfer the files that way.
The only way to make it work on the go would be with a battery powered USB power supply and have both the otg cable and the splitter ... not very convenient.
In a pinch I have used the otg cable on my phone, then transferred the file over Bluetooth to the TouchPad while in Android. Again, not very convenient, but it worked.

As far as I know connecting a card reader needs the USB host mode and this is not available in Android 2 (http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/usb/host.html). Also the hardware has to be capable of that (maybe TP is). We have to wait until ICS is available on the touchpad.
I'd like to know if there can be more done w/ the TouchPad... i.e. more USB host support for other things (external hdd, controller etc)

Having just tried female to female usb connected to the oem usb cable by samsung, was hoping it will be able to connect and detect a flash or external drive but it did not.
So the question is this, since a usb is universal, would it be because of the oem cable or missing support from the kernel?
Even if power is supplied through, nothing was detected but power and it started to charge.

USB Host mode?
Seen a youtube video introduced a special usb dongle as an accessory which turns the microusb port into usb host mode and it will allow keyboard and various other devices to be connected.
Seems like it is not a usb host port on its own.
You need a USB cable that supports OTG. You can get one for a few bucks from Amazon. The kernel already supports attaching all kinds of USB devices, so just make sure you have the right cable.
Is it possible to get the HTC one x+ to be native-ly supported ( like an iphone ) for stock usb audio players in cars? My understanding is that you have to enable usb mass storage mode or some type of host, is that even possible with out formatted the phone and then doing a re-partition of the internal storage to make it appear as removable?
What would you guys suggest, is there any cheap "hardware hack" ( under $75 ) to just bypass the issue and emulate apple hardware?

I dont know if it is an OTG cable, it was just the standard charging cable that came with my phone.
No, the OTG cable is not shipped with HOX+, you need to buy it, but it is relatively cheap (as there is no difference between them, they are all from China, so buy the cheapest). A OTG USB cable allows you to connect to your smartphone every device, which can be plugged to your computer by USB.
