Unable to install Market Apps - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running the official AT&T Froyo 2.2.2 on my streak. For the past couple of days I get a "Unable to install, please try later" message every time I try to download and install any app from the market. Before this I have downloaded many apps from the market with no problems. Also I am still able to download apps from Amazon app store. I tried clearing the Market cache and Market data but it didn't fix it. I also deleted all apps that I downloaded recently. Still no fix. Does anyone have any ideas, as this is very frustrating? Thanks for any advise.

I recently had a similar issue. All I could do in the end was back up my phone/apps and then re-installed the Rom.If you're already done lots to your phone then this probably isn't what you want to here so just be patient. There's a lot of good helpful folk on here and fingers crossed you should get an answer. There's lots of great stuff to read up on while your waiting.I myself am learning new things daily and so far haven't bricked my Streak.Lol.
Good luck mate.Tris.
P.S. Just a thought but have you tried downloading apps from the official website through your phone or from a PC to see if you get the same error? That may help someone narrow the problem down for you.

You can also download from the market website directly to your phone without the use of the built-in app on your phone by going here :- https://market.android.com/
Just log in with you google account as normal and try a download, you can do this from either your phone web browser or through USB at your PC.

Wow, it does indeed work by downloading directly from the site to my phone! I would still like to figure out why the market app does not work, but it's great to know I can still get the apps. Thank you!!!

If you're phone is rooted and you have a backup of the file 'vending.apk' you could always try re-installing it through a file manager. But I'm afraid that is where my knowledge ends. I'm glad you can still manage downloads via another route, to me that says 'all is not lost yet!'

Maybe you have USB Debugging enabled?

I don't think so. How do I check?

I have USB Debugging enabled on my phone and have no problems with the Market, so it's something else that is causing the problem.

Well thanks for all the help guys. After several days of this happening with no know reason, it is now suddenly working again for no known reason. I just hope it keeps up.

so for some reason I keep getting the message that the process android.process.media has stopped. it keeps looping and it won't stop.
I can't fix it at all... help?
Lol... Seems like you put more effort in this post. But anyway, what have you tried?
Do you have odin? Do you have adb setup?
Man, you really need to add some more details if you expect help...

The worst the about people who ask questions, is that they don't give details
Haha, sorry guys... I was sorta in a panic rush.
Well, after extensive work in ODIN... I'm back to stock.
But now, for some reason I am having a really hard time connecting to my PC.
Every time I connect my phone via USB, this MTP Device Application bull**** pulls up on my Vibrant, and my comp can't install the driver.
I've tried manually updating the driver, but my computers tells me that it's already fully updated...
I've tried connecting through Kies and Mass Storage.
So, as of right now, I'm downloading the Bionix ROM directly on my phone and will run it to see if that makes a difference.
Do you guys know of anything I'm missing?
Sorry for the lack of info again, lol.

[Q] Does Google Voice Navigation work with the world generic x10a ROM?

Hi. I've been reading through the forums and am thinking of flashing to the world generic for x10a (2.1, latest build) but don't want to lose some of the functions of my phone that may be country specific such as Google Voice Navigation for their Google Maps. I was wondering if Google Voice Navigation will still work after I flash to world generic for x10a, i.e. can I still use it as a gps when I drive (like it'll give me voice directions)? If it doesn't, any way to make it work?
On a semi-related note, I've been reading that there have been issues with the gps and wifi with the ROM update/flash. Have those been resolved with the latest 2.1 update that was released a few days ago (at least those that are software related and not hardware related)? The world generic is really the LAM but non-country specific without any of the bloatware that our carriers put on yes (I'm on AT&T and given their responses...ugh)? And if the world generic x10a 2.1 ROM happens to not install google voice search, I can just install batman_112's apk after flashing?
Thanks a lot for any help!

I use the 2.1 world generic. I have an AT&T X10a.
Navigation is there, yes.
You can install voice search, yes.
Issues, no.
Bloatware from AT&T, no.
You can root from here and remove whatever apps you do not like using root explorer or titanium backup.
Good luck.
Thanks man! That's awesome. Will do it once I charge up my phone (and of course after I do all the set up things). As an official ROM, we'll get the future updates (if SE releases anymore) as they come directly from SE right? Would we need to reroot every time there is an update?
Sorry, I'm still learning... Thanks.

Yes, you can get future updates directly from SEUS. You will not be tied to AT&T anymore. And yes, you will need to re-root every time you update but, that should not be a problem. Just pop in here whenever you need something and I am sure you will find what you are looking for.
Also, before you start, watch this tutorial regarding the flash tool.
Yes the answer to your question. If you use SEUS to update your phone you will need to re- root your devices after the update. I would look into checking out one of the custom roms that are out. i have tried each one and have it narrowed down to 2 to be my daily. either the EminenceBuild or J's 2.2CustomDarkStyle.
Thanks guys. The info and help is much appreciated.
Sorry, forgot to ask- the flash tool would be from jerlepea's massive ROM thread correct? Then I would root using batman_112's/your superoneclick's root program. Thanks.

No problem
Come back and post to let us know how it went. Good luck!
Will do. Will do it later on in the week as I don't want to accidentally brick it during the week when I need to use the phone and have an all-nighter (however remote it appears to be); anyway, after flashing and rooting, I may not sleep anyway b/c I would want to play around with it! It's a pretty sweet device that's mainly marred by the official "support." But the support here more than makes up for that. Thanks again!
Ok, I tried flashing for...well much longer than it should have taken. I tried both PC Companion and SEUS. When I first got my x10a, I was able to update with PC Companion no problem. Now, when I'm trying to enter flash mode, my computer hangs. The phone enters flash mode (green light turns on) but my computer than hangs - it detects the SEMC device but then it hangs and the phone eventually just boots up normally then. I read somewhere that it might be the usb drivers? But I can't find the thread now or the files. Does anyone have them? I'm using Win XP SP3, antivirus and firewall off during flash attempts. Any advice? Thanks!
Hey, ok, I've been trying to flash my x10a for...well let's just say much longer than it should have been. Things seem fine in that I was able to use PC Companion to update when I got my x10a out of the box. But now, when I'm using either SEUS or PC Companion, my computer hangs once it detects the SEMC Device...after several seconds, the x10a just loads up normally and my computer hangs. I remember reading somewhere that it might be the usb drivers? I've been looking through the forums but can't seem to find it now - does anyone have it?
I'm running Win XP SP3, antivirus and firewall off when doing the flashing. Please help. Thanks!
---
I've tried it on another computer to no avail - it's the same thing, it sees the SEMC Mass Storage but it does not register as SEMC Flash Device (i.e. it sees it as a SEMC Flash Device but then it stops). I've uninstalled and reinstalled PC Companion and Update Service which should have given clean install of the drivers. I don't know what to do. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.
Ok, I finally got the firmware to flash but I can't seem to root now. Am reading through the threads but it seems like I am doing everything right, just not getting the results. Which sucks.
Btw, why does the haptic feedback not turn off properly? I turn it off but whenever I press a key, it still vibrates?

Trouble with Casual and one click root/bootloader unlock

I've downloaded all of the necessary files and drivers for Adam Outler's Once click root and bootloader unlock method but it never seems to get started. I run the Casual, and click the large "Do It" button, but then nothing happens. I don't get the prompt to continue and the "do it" button simply turns grey. I've let it sit for a while and still nothing.
I've uninstalled/reinstalled drivers as well as re-downloaded the Casual.
I've flashed with Odin back to stock.
I've installed Kies.
I'm running Win 7.
I've noticed others on YouTube have stated they have the same issue but I haven't been able to find a solution. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Wish I could man, but I can't post links yet because I'm still considered a new user.
The best thing to do is delete your current drivers in device manager then plug your phone back in and let windows install them itself. You could also try Samsung Kies.
Here's a link to the Samsung drivers... hope its helps

[Q] [Help] Bricked my ZTE V965

Bought a ZTE V965 because it was a special offer and I wanted to give android a try. Nice phone for the money, hardware wise, but software wise it needed some work. No google apps! I rooted the phone with vroot, worked fine. Installed SuperSU and CWM, seemed fine, but CWM is not fully functional. When I boot in restore mode, it doesnt mention CWM, it seems to be the native restore mode.
Tried to install google apps as APK's, but this didnt work. Play store closes instantly. Can't login chrome. Tried to install gapps.zip in recovery mode, error message, not working. I gave the phone a factory reset a few times during all this, and that worked fine.
Then I read a guide for manually installing gapps to the system app folder.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428314
So I installed root explorer, and put several gapps files in the system app folder:
OneTime Initializer.apk
GoogleLoginService.apk
Google Services Framework.apk
Setup Wizard.apk
Gmail.apk
Still not working though, gmail app crashes.
So I wanted to factory reset again, to start with a blank canvas. Big mistake!!! After the factory reset, the google files are not removed! Now when I boot the phone the setup wizard starts and crashes. I haven't found a way to get around it. What makes things worse, the phone is no longer detected when connected to my PC. Before ADB toolkit would detect the phone, no problem. Now nothing.
Any ideas what I can do? All that is necessary (I expect) is that this setupwizard is killed/bypassed/whatever, but I can't figure out how to do it.
I can get into the emergency number dialer, maybe something is possible from there?
Well, as always, immediately after posting, I made some progress! I booted the phone, and got a low battery warning, from which I could access the settings and enable USB debugging. Now I have ADB toolkit connected again. Also, I went into application settings, to kill and disable all these gapps. I managed to do this for all but one, the biggest problem: setupwizard.apk. Maybe because it's running i can't disable it? The option is greyed out. So when I reboot, I still get the setup wizard that crashes.
However, I do have what i believe is a stock ROM (from a chinese website, hard to be sure, but the name suggests it). Might try to flash that one using adb-toolkit.
Finally managed to fix it using linux shell. Killed the setupwizard task, deleted all gapps from system/app, problem solved.
Still would very much like to have working Gapps though. Hopefully this phone will become more popular outside China, so more people will look into flashing it. I've tried, but I can't do it. No fastboot drivers, and the native flash method (putting update.zip on phoen storage) doesn't work. For now I'll stick with the stock ROM and just use it in it's very limited state.
chance you can put a link to that stock ROM you found?

Hello Byte_Me,
I've been looking for weeks how to get GApps on my ZTE V965 and tried everything I could, but each time with a different error. Today you made my day to let me know that I'm not the only one with this problem. Since no-one seems to use this device I wasn't able to find any working tutorial to fix Google Apps on this chinese android. I really hope you can tell me soon how you did this, so I can finally move on. Could you please send the link to your topic when you publish it? Thanks in advance and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEWYEAR!!!

sctrach that - just updated the buggy apps through the Google Play.
Woo-hoo!
Nice to hear that, it makes the phone a lot more usable, doesnt it?
Any problems? I am still not satisfied, but I guess it's a work in progress.
Annoyances:
- not recognizing callers, some incompatibilities caused by country prefixes in my address book
- no badge notifications on icons, makes it harder too see missed calls, have to look at status bar
- some other stuff i can't think of now

Tried reading through all the links, still can't get the light to turn green on mtk tools. V 965 is rooted by the Romjd app. Downloaded the rom rated 9.5. Installed the Vcom driver.
Can't load scatter files in sp flash tool..
Quite the noob at this stuff and guidance would be great. I did install ZTE driver when i connected the phone. Was that a mistake?

I never used SP flash tool.
Make sure phone is rooted.
Use MTK tools to install CWM zip package (just follow the instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44660171&postcount=417)
Boot into CWM and install google apps zip package.
I think USB debugging must be switched on in settings.

[ROOT] LG G2 Easy [TUTORIAL] One Click!

Hello guys, since the last tutorial I posted was really popular I decided to post another one for my other phone, the LG G2. You don't even need to use any command prompt for this. The only problem is that this is chinese language, so you have to click the exact buttons.
1. Download this file: https://tr.im/64637 <--- HELP ME! OR http://goo.gl/U6Jwaf
2. Install the software, using the installation buttons as you would on any other windows installation.
3. When you have installed it, you will see a green button, press it. Then connect your phone.
4. When the phone is connected the software will recognize the phone and the green button will show "ROOT", click on it.
5. The phone is going to be rooted in some seconds and the process is finished when it will show a tick on the software.
6. The phone will reboot.
7. When it is rebooted, go to google play and download super su.
8. Open super su and it will ask you to update the binaries, and you must click on update, and then normal.
9. A window in chinese will pop up on the phone, this is the screen that allows you to give root permissions to any app. You must click the button on the right.
10. You are done! Root process is complete!
11. This is the most important step. Leave a thanks! If you liked the tutorial, please show it to me!

EDIT: I know you guys might not trust this, but I used it and it worked perfectly. There aren't any problems with this root, and there are no viruses on my PC that I know of. And I regularly scan my PC.
If you want to see my other thread, about 100 people replied and most of them successfully rooted their phone!

I don't think the issue is that this may be a virus. But, the root process gathers critical phone information (IMEI ans serial number) and sends it back to a server.

Yeah may be, I don't think so, nothing bad has happened to my IMEI or Serial. I still think that you can use this, because many thousands have and none have reported anything bad. What if the data being sent was only information for statistical purpose?

Again this was from KINGO not VROOT.
VROOT has not been in contact with us.
USE THIS SOFTWARE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
I suggest using the newest version of KINGO if no XDA developed method works.
In past versions of both softwares there was XDA dev's work (without credits)
If you use this and find out that someone on the other side of the world has a phone with your IMEI # and your phone no longer works, then you have been warned.

If you use this and find out that someone on the other side of the world has a phone with your IMEI # and your phone no longer works, then you have been warned.

I think that VROOT aswell will take it away if we ask them... but anyway I don't really think they are going to do something bad with the IMEIs..

We did ask already
We had contacted both KINGO & VROOT at the same time.
Kingo has been responsive and made the necessary changes to comply with the XDA rules.
We have not heard ANYTHING from VROOT.
At that time both software's were the same (almost identical). We were thinking that they are a part of the same group.
I still recommend that you use a method developed here on XDA, or the newest version of Kingo's software
However it is your choice.
Thanks for the cooperation on this matter,

Yes I have noted similiarities within the two websites... I really hope that VROOT proceedes to take the IMEI down aswell... although I really don't think that something bad is going to happen; many people have done it and until now there haven't been reports of IMEI misuse... I could be wrong though they may do it in the future, but for now i think it's safe.
Anyone else tried it?
Why don't people just use towelroot?
- download app from Internet
- install on phone
- start app
- click the button "make it rain"
- finished, you just got root
