Netflix for Android Workaround for mytouch - myTouch 4G Themes and Apps

I found this on the http://techland.time.com/
So i dont take credit for this so i posted the whole page please in joy.
Unless you own one of the five phones that support Netflix's new Android app, Thursday's announcement was worthless.
But thanks to some clever folks on Reddit, Netflix's petty device restrictions needn't apply. With a rooted Android smartphone, you can trick Netflix into thinking your device is approved for streaming video. It's not a perfect fix -- some users can't get it to work -- but it'll do until Netflix officially brings its app to more Android phones.
The first thing you'll want to do is root your phone. You can look up instructions for specific devices at xda-developers, but keep in mind that rooting is not supported by warranty and could turn the phone into a paperweight.
Still with us? Now, follow the instructions, as posted on Reddit:
1) Download ES File Explorer (Or any other root file editor)
2) In ES File Explorer, go into Setting > Root Settings and enable both check boxes
3) Navigate to /system/ and copy/paste build.prop to /sdcard/ (just in case)
4) Open & edit /system/build.prop
5) Change the following lines to make your phone think it is an HTC G2:
--ro.product.model=HTC Vision
--ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
OR
--ro.product.model=Nexus S
--ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
6) Reboot the phone
7) Install the netflix apk (if you haven't already)
Enjoy
I haven't tried this myself, as my only Android device is a Droid Incredible, which doesn't require extra hoop-jumping. Obviously, you work around Netflix's obstacles at your own risk, but the ability to tinker is one of the reasons you got an Android phone in the first place, right?

best app ever im waiting to find positive attitude so i can donwload to my phone and make it work nicee anyone know if its working good the netflix aps or it crashes?

I installed the hacked version that doesn't try to authenticate your phone and it lets me view and manipulate my queue, but when I try to stream, I get a blank white screen with nice clear audio. It seems there's a legitimate reason that Netflix is only releasing the app for certain phones. We may just have to wait on them to get it working for our hardware.

Netflix does work on our phones. There are Three ROMS out there that work perfectly. Sense 3.0, Cyanogen, one of the MiUi, and some of the TeamRoyal ROMs.
why wait when you can obtain now?

Can u share more I have cyonagen mod and haven't found a working version.

Have to use CM nightlies. Forget when they introduced it, but Cyanogen tweeted he had a fix a few days before the nightly was released.

I have to use the latest nightly and change the build.prop to HTC vision. Then I can download from the market and it works great.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App

I've tried this before and it doesn't work. This is the reason why I looked into rooting my device and ultimately flash it with teamroyal's ROM. Like neidlinger said, I got netflix working on my phone flawlessly!

i've tried all kinds of ROMs and netflix apps. none worked. until today! CM7 Nightly #100. then i had to install the 6.6.2011 updated netflix apk and boom, its working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

interesting i just downloaded the apk off the internet and it seems to work fine so far, but i haven't used it that much either

[Q] Netflix on Fascinate (APK LINKED)

So, it's just been announced that certain phones have Netflix app for Android (HTC Incredible, Nexus One, and EVO 4G with Android 2.2 installed. It’s also supported on the Nexus S and Nexus One with Android 2.3 installed.) while others will have it eventually.
Is it possible to get this apk and try it on our phones? Its a free app, so I don't see why passing it out on XDA would be against the rules.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076150
(mods, if this is considered bad, idk why as its free and you still have to have an account, please just edit this link out)
Well, it installed and loaded perfectly.
I can also change my queue no issues, however, I cannot watch a movie. It gives an error about my device not being supported.
Maybe a hack job can fix?
If I understand right, we have to wait til sammy or verizon provides a DRM update to make the phone compatible. I don't believe you bypass it, though i am not a dev so I might be wrong.

Same on Fascinate. It would not work with the Nexus S setting at all. The HTC Setting gave me the same thing as Sophos1.
So....I installed the old leaked apk and was able to get past the login screen. It gave me the "device not supported' error only after I tried to load a show, but it never FCed. I am linking the file in case others have better luck than I.

Netflix Streaming Working On ThunderBolt

Ok, this should work since this mod has worked on other devices. You will need a rooted rom with DRM enabled. You will also need to know how to edit your build.prop
Make the following changes and reboot.
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.brand=tmobile
ro.product.name=vision
ro.product.device=vision
ro.product.board=vision
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
ro.build.fingerprint=tmobile/htc_vision/vision/vision:2.2/FRF91/277427:user/release-keys
This should work... GIVE IT A SHOT and report back here...
After doing this mod I was able to download the app from the market, but after trying to stream a movie it comes up with a DRM error. I am using Liquid Thundersense 1.45
This will need some more looking in to..
Try a diff rom, liquid probably removed drm

So, you create a thread saying it's working before you even try it. When you do try it, it doesn't work. Do I have that right?
I did as you specified Sir. Netflix is now showing up in my Market Apps (Was not Before) I downloaded that one and it appeared to be going great. It acted like it was going to stream Dumb and Dumber ... even showed the progress bar pop up for a split second. Then it is as if it kicked me out and sent me back to the Queue Screen for the Netflix App. Should I download a modded version of netflix app?
I recall the first time I used a modded a netflix app, It had a alert in my drop down saying DRM Notification :License Required
..maybe I can dump paying for playon if we get this going!
I am Running Das BAMF1.6.3 Remixwith CF 2.0 Kernel
Go look at the other 20 threads. It's not working.
Read this one. There has been a lot of input there. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076166

Perma-Temp Root + HULU FIX

ANNOUNCING PERMA-TEMP ROOT + HULU FIX!!!!
I've taken the excellent existing information from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159354 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=688054&page=46
See the first link for instructions, etc. Basically just plug your phone into your PC, make sure USB debugging is on, using your phone as charge only, and that HTC Sync isn't running. Then open up the attached zip and run Run_ME_Fr3vo_ROOT + HULU FIX. OH, and I'm not sure if it matters, but have the latest Adobe Flash player installed on your phone before you start (10.3.185.25)
That's it! Your phone should be rooted AND HULU-ready until you reboot.
WHAT I DID: All I did was add a few commands that will delete your lib file from com.adobe.flashplayer, then install a different .lib file with correct permissions. Now, when you go browse Hulu with your stock browser or Dolphin (making sure your settings are set to disable mobile browsing, or set as DESKTOP VIEW, etc), Hulu won't recognize your phone as non-desktop, and you'll be free to watch Hulu all you want!
[Please note: this is my first time doing anything like this, as in first time ever creating a .bat file or doing anything with adb beyond the very basics; please bear that in mind when ripping me apart for being a noob ]
If this was helpful, please let me know with a thanks!
EDIT: Thanks to abe_ahmed09 for reminding me this works with stock browser too!
Unable to test this right now due to no PC access. But dude, no one should rip you apart, you are trying to help the community and I commend you do doing things that a lot of others do not have the ability to do.

very nice work! thanks for this.
SWEET!
Glad it's working! I'll add emphasis to the fact that you need the latest version of flash for it to work.
Here's a question: are there any other programs out there that have to be tweaked AFTER root in order to work? What I mean is, right now I've got 10 or 20 root apps that work flawlessly after I root. But if there are good apps out there that require additional tweaking after root, perhaps we could incorporate that into the .bat as well

Oh hell no! Just use the free Dolphin Browser from the market, then go to settings and choose "Desktop" so that websites think you're browsing from a PC/Mac. When you get to HULU, depending on your settings, you may need to click the green arrow to watch the video.
Works in Full Screen too!!
...of course, if you're talking about Hulu-plus-only videos---then yes, you'd of course need Plus to view those videos just as you would elsewhere.
EDIT: Reading over your comment again I guess I need to clarify further: nothing here is "ad supported" because there are no apps, etc that I've provided. ALL MY HULU FIX DOES IS SWAP OUT A FILE IN YOUR ADOBE APP FOLDER THAT TRICKS HULU INTO THINKING YOU'RE A COMPUTER. But note that you'll still need a BROWSER that enables you to browse like a computer.
Were these points unclear to anyone else?
Works after updating flash to 10.3.

Awesome, Great to hear it! Ya, not sure why the root method in my OP isn't working for you...different people have posted different results with the same root method! Anyway glad it's working, and as you discovered, there should be no problem running this on a rooted phone
Now I've tweaked it further so it'll overclock your phone to 1.8 GHz! I might make a new thread for that...

[Q] Problems with my AT&T Atrix after downloading the update to 2.3.4

Last night I downloaded the update for my Atrix and while for the most part i enjoy the new looks and such, however now among other things none of my music files will play, which are mp3 files, even ones I had previously downloaded, says this file type isn't supported on the phone, and I cannot get pandora or any streaming music player to work, it loads up like its going to start then says it can't connect to the servers or just stays stuck loading.
I previously had my phone rooted with gingerbreak, so I don't know if that caused any problems, but any help could on how i can fix this because I honestly have no idea what the problem is, because even the new AT&T music player for internet radio doesn't load the music.
Is it possible for me to uninstall the update or do I have to unroot my phone? I'm quite frustrated at this point because I've tried changing settings and tried to download different music players all to no avail.
In my sig there is an app called build.prop editor. Have to be rooted. Open app 1. Click open build.prop
2. Tap build.prop and look for the files that say stagefright.xxx.xxx. change false to true. Save and reboot.
Mot.stagefright.xxx
Or its ro.stagefright.xxx
Change all the ones with the words stagefright to true
I have cm7 now so I don't have those files to tell you the correct full filename

When you open the app does it ask for superuser permission? If it doesn't then you have a root issue.

How to retain/regain root going from 2.2.2 to 2.3.4
When the last OTA update came out I used the before and after update batch files method that I found here - running the before update then just installed it and ran the afterupdate.bat and I was done. I am now rooted with system v4.1.83 Android v2.2.2 and started getting the update messages.
Usually I wait until one of the devs here has a successful tested method and posts instructions / follow them and donate to whoever I was helped by but haven't found anywhere in the threads that describes exactly how to do this. Is there a new method for handling this out yet? Thanks -gs

Nexus Q Working on ICS

I have some of this posted in the Q&A but thought it deserved a thread here as I now have it working with Google Play Music on ICS. I have not been able to get the new YouTube application ported over to ICS yes but I'm still working on it.I could probably get this working on Gingerbread by changing the manifest again but I no longer have a GB device so if someone really wants it let me know.
What you need:
The modified NexusQ.apk file from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28636772&postcount=23
The new 4.3.605 Google Play Music apk which is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19423409&postcount=1
A Nexus Q and WiFi network.
A device running ICS. I used my Bionic running leaked ICS but I did have to root in order to install the new 605 Play Music application.
Instructions:
Install the new (4.3.605) Google Play Music application from Steve0007's posted linked above. If you get an "Existing package with same signature.." error you will need to do the following (this is what worked on my Bionic):
WARNING: ROOTING YOUR DEVICE AND CHANGING THE SYSTEM FILES CAN CAUSE BAD THINGS TO HAPPEN, PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
Root your device (I used this method on my Bionic: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...gh-releases-ics-leak-root-exploit-bionic.html.) Install Root Explorer from the market and delete the existing com.google.android.play.music.xxx.xx.xxx apk from /system/app. Reboot device. Copy 605 apk to device and install.
END SCARY ROOT WARNING
Install the modified NexusQ.apk, plug in the Q, turn on Bluetooth on your device (it will prompt you to if you don't) and get connected! I had to go through the process several times before it successfully paired up but from what I've read the same is true on JB devices as well. If you need to wipe out the Q you do so by unplugging it, plugging it back in and as soon as the blue ring starts place your palm over the single LED on the top until the ring goes from flashing red to swirling purple. This will factory reset the device. Since getting both my Bionic and Xoom paired it's worked well.
Enjoy until the official ICS and below apps drop from Google.
If anyone is successful at getting the JB YouTube application working on ICS please let me know.
Thanks to everyone that helped me get this working!
Thanks a ton!!! I've added a link to this in my roll-up (here) in the general thread so others will find it. I'm now able to use my Nexus Q, thanks again!
Eventually I'll start learning to do some dev work :/
I followed your directions but I still cannot stream anything, I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I was able to get the Nexus Q 8 Ball easter Egg to work.
What is your current status? Do you have the 4.3.605 music player installed? If so you should have the little "beam" icon on the top right when playing music and tapping that should make the Q almost instantly start streaming that song.

I wasn't too happy with Google either but the support page for the NQ does say that it is only working on JB until purchased units start shipping. Plus I've learned a lot getting this to work! ;-)

Yes I read that but the old play music was not in the system\apps directory but it was still installed so not sure. I force stopped it and uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still would not let me install the one listed.
Hmmm, I think that's two of you with problems installing on CM9. I don't have anything running that ROM (and you can probably tell I'm already pretty much at the limits of my skills) but perhaps it is installed differently in that ROM. Unfortunately I don't think I can help you with this one.

Just though I should specify what rom I had success with. I copied the app to /system/app folder and changed the permissions. I did NOT have google music previously installed. When I ran the app to install it said install failed. I then installed the NexusQ app directly from my SD card, which installed no problems. I did not try to run the NexusQ app and rebooted the phone. Once rebooted i turned on my WIFI and bluetooth and launched the NexusQ app and rebooted the Nexus Q. The app paired up with the Q no problem. I was then able to run Google Music app and play to the Q with no issues. *NOTE* When i walked out of the house (i did not manually disconnect the wifi or bluetooth, just hit the stop play music button and turned off the TV and receiver) and came back later, turned the TV and receiver back on, the visualizations or music track would not show at all. Just the NexusQ home screen. I rebooted the Q and everything is working fine again.
No, youtube does not work (which I think is posted an original post somewheres). It seems that a ported app will be needed to push youtube videos to the Q. I cannot test Google movies/TV as I dont own any.
I've tried exactly this on my HTC One S running ICS (albeit with HTC Sense) and can't get it to stream to the Q.
Everything installs fine (if I move it to /system/apps and change the permissions as mentioned) but I see no option in the Play Music app to stream to the Q.
Additionally, the new Play Music app looks it has lost quite a bit of functionality to the previous version - perhaps indicating that the installation went badly? For instance, there are much fewer options on the settings page and there's no option to choose or configure my Google account anywhere.
bobukcat - is this the case for you?

Yes that worked for me!
It still took a bunch of tries to get it to do anything though.
For a long time, and several reboots, the Q didn't show up in the list of devices in Play Music...
No idea what I did, but all of a sudden it showed up.
Volume control from the phone still doesn't work, and YouTube/Videos don't work either.
At least now I can enjoy it a bit until they release the real apps.
Thanks a ton for all the pointers and packages!
What order did you install the packages? Play Music first and then the Q app? Or the other way around?

The Q app first.
When the Q finally showed up in the new Play Music app, it was after turning wifi off/on a few times ... don't know if that's what finally did it though.

No, my play music application has all the previous functionality and even more options in Settings, including Nexus Q settings. Did you install the Q application first? I don't know why this would matter but that is what I did.
Did you just move the new play music apk to the /system/app location or did you actually install it from application manager in Astro or other file manager? I don't know that just moving the apk to that folder will work (I don't think I even tried that) so you may have to delete the old one, reboot and then install the new one from the apk. Please try that and let us know if it works.

Yeah, I've tried to rebuild the YouTube application from JB with a new manifest multiple times but I still can't get it to work right, I did finally get it to install but it just constantly FCs and never really runs. Clearly someone much more skilled than I (which wouldn't take much) at modifying apks would need to look into this or we just wait for the official app from Google to drop.
Strange that the volume control from your phone doesn't work, as long as I'm in the Play Music application it works fine on both my Bionic and Xoom.
As reported in the OP I too had lots of errors and force closes, etc. when trying to get this to run the first time but from what I've read that happens on JB devices too and in fact I had a few on my Xoom running TeamEOS nightlies.
