What is the "Official" condition of the E3D Bootloader? - HTC EVO 3D

This forum is filled with what seems like educated guesses and half confident answers. I've heard just locked, and signed/encrypted to just signed. The question all of us basically want to know is whats the status of the bootloader compared to that of the Sensation, which from my understanding is locked/signed and therefore near impossible to crack. I dont think encryption was ever the fear.
Hope somebody can clear this up for me and all of XDA.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App

It's not the locked/signed boot loader that would stop devs from achieving it, its when there Encrypted, which many believe it is and encryption is what would stop development. With as much guessing as there's been, i don't think anyone at this point actually knows. we'll find out as we get closer to launch and all the test units go out or till its actual release.
Uplinked through my mind

Go into the "evo 3d locked bootloader " thread and read the 15th comment, OMJ posted a great interview.

Over in the Evo board there is a thread by Virus with the leaked rom. Someone looked and said the bootloader is locked but not encrypted.

Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Ginger-on-Hero action here!

I understand that much, all android bootloaders are technically locked. But if it's signed then the process of unlocking it is very difficult. I'm just wondering if its both signed and locked in the same locked down way that the sensation is, or if it is just locked as the EVO was before it.
If someone could clear up how bootloader locking work, that would also help.

The leak thread stated locked and signed, not encrypted

Did the evo have a signed bl?
Tapa tapa tapa

the evo had a locked bootloader/nand with signed updates but the partitions themselves weren't signed.

and in this case they are? So theres really no relief from HTC. They did the same thing they did with all the other phones...

Right for the most part I've gone through dumps and ruu for a lot of HTC divices and for the most part biggest difference I saw was some of the sensation files are different
But encrypted a signed bl or certs they all are atrix is deff encrypted

I don't think you will get a solid answer until people start getting their hands on the device. This thread was kind of pointless to start when there are other threads going on about the same issue

I mean xtc clip would most likely work I believe it did for inc s.
Also speaking to the dude from there says sensation is next Idk time will tell but if inc s was able to s off Idk why the sensation can't or 3d being there the same thing minus 3d and carrier differnce

that's not entirely true considering the sensation forums have a pretty clear idea what's going on in there. just don't know what they can do with it yet. and the other threads are the reason for this thread.

Sensation is locked and I'm 99% sure EVO 3D will be too. But if devs unlock the Sensation, can they use the same method for E3D? Am I thinking right?

It looks like the same hboot as the leaked ruu so I take it the rom is the same too? If not then that means htc probably could have shipped it with an unlocked one but didn't.

8 days and counting, can't wait.
I spent a good 6 hours last night prepping my Evo 4G for trade in, unrooted it and installed the stock 3.70 RUU, which finally gave me the 4.22 OTA update as well. Had the "main too old, update failed" problem for the better part of 5 hours, solved it by re-doing the mtg-eng.img through adb, the 3.70 RUU went on just fine after that.

Possible S-Off? (Probably not)

To get S-Off, has anyone tried rolling back to the old RUU (Prerelease) and using HTC Dev? It probably won't work, but it might be worth a shot...
htc dev wont work,they arent going to give an unlock key,it doesnt matter what firmware we are running.
from what i can gather,zergRush works,we need to be able to disable emmc write protect so that a new hboot can be written. im assuming the usual exploits for this are not working,or it would be out by now.
it may be possible that an older ruu may be more "exploitable" i dont reeally know.
i hope some breakthrus come... i hate to think htc devices are going to become "unlockable" like moto i like the rezound but have got to hold out till it has at least a software s-off.
id also be happy with clip support,since i have one of them
edit: htc dev unlock is a joke anyway. i do appreciate the efforts on their part to satisfy the root community,but it is not an s-off. what you get,is an unlocked s-on hboot that lets you change recovery,boot,and system. no radio or hboot changes,and no backwards RUUs without rewriting the misc image.
its unfortunately far from the freedom from a true unsecured bootloader. it may well be good enuff for most folks,but im not happy with that.
It's a good thought tho. Yeah the htc method for the EVO users sucked. I Mena u could still flash roms and such bit they had to have a stock kernel as a default In order to flashed em thru recovery. But I wouldn't be to happy with that either. So I can't blame ya. But if that all we were offered then I would have to live with it.

it really is a great phone. read engadgets review. they really explain the screen resolution very well with graphs. its sold as a music phone but at this time it is the best screen res in the world. the nexus and razor are inferior in that area. watching hd video on it is pretty cool

htc has been locking their bootloaders,this is nothing new. in the past,its just been easy to find work arounds to either turn of the radio secure flag off,or to sneek an eng hboot(that pretends the radio is s-off ) onto the device,and its always happend quickly,in most cases before the device even came out.
to my knowledge there is not encription,like there is with moto bootloaders,ist just that we currently have no way to write a new hboot in place of the current one.
if there is not a real engineering hboot for the rezound,its not too difficult to patch a stock hboot to not do radio checks,and to provide fastboot commands,and even protect itself from being overwritten(all these are characteristics of the revolutionary hboot), its just a matter of an exploit to get it in place.
i know i sort of started that ball rolling with my comment, but i wouldnt give up just yet. hopefully someone whose smarter than us will figure it out. or the clip will support it. or both
im not saying i wont get it,but im still happy with my thunderbolt,i dont need a new phone yet,so i will wait untill we have s-off,or possibly until 4 core processors come out next year

if the 3D bootloader was incrypted,it would still be in place. i dont believe it could be overwritten,even with a radio secure flag off. it is all but impossible to find the encryption key,without the encrypter giving it to you.
hmm. after some thot... does revolutionary give the 3d a new hboot like it does for other models? looking at their site again,it gives permanent nand unlock to the sensation,3d,and mytouch slide. i guess its possible to turn the secure flag off,and all partitions could be flashed without security checks except the hboot.

Wow that's a great thought. But the hboot would remain the same. Wiether u had 1.30 or 1.40 to begin with. They never released there exploit tho. I know it had to do with the kernel and htc patched it with the 2.08 update. Bastards LOL.

Awesome. Thank you all.
They WILL still be able to see that you unlocked the bootloader, there are 3 statuses that it can have
Locked (stock)
Unlocked
Relocked
Yours will need to be relocked to flash the PH85IMG.zip files, however, it will be obvious to them that you had it unlocked at one point. The big thing missing from the OP is the reason it needs to be sent back. If it's a hardware failure unrelated to you unlocking the bootloader or software changes you've done, you should be fine.
I have known people to send back rooted phones and been fine and got a replacement. Their theory was if no water/hardware damage, then why the hub-hub. I personally wouldn't try that myself, but some people test the waters. Thus far it had been fine.

The GPL doesn't specify a time frame. It just says that source must be available upon request. Which means they should release it right away. The reason they get away with it is because the what every other hardware dev does it.

Yes, the original source is "on the clock"... I'm assuming they made more than a couple changes in the source, as the version number changed, so that starts a new "clock" for that kernel version... HTC is known for being slow on kernel source releases for North American carriers, so we shall see... I'm not holding my breath...

Your "evidence" is the exact thing that proves that you are mistaken. T-Mobile ROMs are all numbered x.xx.531.x (ie 3.24.531.3), while HTC developer ROMs are all x.xx.1540.x (ie 4.06.1540.2).
I will explain this further to you so you don't make this mistake again, using the 4.06.1540.2 rom as an example. The version number breaks down as follows:
4.xx.xxxx.x = fourth Android base for device, in this case KitKat 4.4 (4.1.2, 4.2.2, 4.3, 4.4)
x.06.xxxx.x = Rom build
x.xx.1540.x = developer edition device
x.xx.xxx.2 = build reversion number
So, now, as you can see, it really doesn't matter what you THINK, you were in fact mistaken when you claimed the T-mobile variant of the ROM was available . It would have been big of you to just admit that you were mistaken and move on instead of posting here (and other threads) over and over to try and convince the rest of us you're right and in the process insulting others and calling them noobs.
Most of us know the real deal. To say your phone is untouched is just not accurate. You would not have received the OTA without modifying the device in some way. Now I'm not going to get into a debate with you about what you did or didn't do, though I'm sure you'll post back saying once again you've done nothing, the fact is your evidence is against you.

x.06.xxxx.x equals Rom build
x.xx.1540.x equals developer edition device
x.xx.xxx.3 equals build reversion number

You did to say untouched. You said ur not unlocked or on dev edition, that you were stock T-Mobile. So now you don't know what ruu you've run on ur phone which means you're at least unlocked and most possible S-off. I think it's best if you just stop now before other people really tell how You have No clue what you're doing or what you're talking about!
