[Q] Ace's Processor - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hello Guys ,
I am planning on buying Samsung Galaxy Ace. I want to make sure whether it is true that Galaxy Ace has the same processor that LG Optimus One P500 has , but it's just overclocked in case of Ace ?

Not overclocked buts its the turbo version, thats by default 800mhz

Are you sure ? and if Yes, is it possible to overclock Ace's processor in the future ?

check pdadb.net's database, the processor of ace is speciafically turbo version with 800mhz as default.
i think we could overclock it if custom os kernel is out, which russell is working on

dont knw about about processor... but my cousin has lg 500 and my bro galaxy ace... and they both agree wid me galaxy ace is far more smoother and better than lg 500... and a medium sized screen is just a charm...

Has your cousin flashed his LGO1 with any custom ROM ? I have heard that "Megatron ROM" for LGO1 makes it perform much better than how it performs when it's stuck with its stock ROM and enables it to handle/run much resource consuming games and apps !!
Well, I, personally haven't used it nor have seen somebody using it

hi bot9011,
custom roms for Samsung galaxy ace are undr development (ie. Darky rom, villain rom and Cyanogen). As of now we have a light weight Villain ROM, and believe me it is very responsive. So if you think about the future when Overclock kernels are built, it can be overclocked to 1GHz! With all these top class ROM and a better hardware, this phone has got the punch.
LG P500 has been around for a year now and the development has evolved pretty well, and in the current scenario new phones are rolling out at an alarmingly fast rate, so it would be disastrous if you buy old phones. You will repent later, believe me...
With all these said the decision is yours to make.
And congrats in advance on your new ANDROID!

If your concern is to have current hardware this is not a good device for that being it uses an arm11 processor. I have not seen anything to indicate this chipset is any different than the standard msm7227 but with an increase in clock speed and most likely voltage too.
As far as the optimus is concerned the additional ram is far more valuable than the extra clock speed in my opinion. Not to mention that the optimus is far more prevalent which is the reason the developer backing is much better.
I'm interested to see if there is any hardware differences and what kind of oc clock speeds you guys achieve.

Thanks a lot for the reply!
Well if you are saying that LG O1 has obsolete hardware and Galaxy Ace is any day better than it, I would like to say that you're pretty wrong !
Both the phones sport the same processor , that is , ARM11 V6 and most of the upcoming updates will be for the phones equipped with V7 and v7+ processors (That's what a senior member on this website, named silvertooth ,told me )
And Yeah, it is true that Ace's processor is said to be in turbo mode so that it can tick at 800Mhz without any issues! But I don't think it is possible to further overclock Ace's processor and even if somebody managed to do it, the phone's battery wouldn't even last for a day
On the other hand it's quite easy to overclock LG O1's processor to an extent of 750Mhz without adversely affecting it's battery backup! It has even got 512MB of RAM !!
The main disadvantage of LGO1 is , it's screen is a dust magnet! Dust easily gets accumulated under it's screen and as far as I know, LG hasn't rectified the problem yet Otherwise I believe it's a pretty good phone that you can get for 10K INR!
Waddya guys say ?

Dude,
If u have an issue with budget get the LG phone, if not, get the ace i am not biasing you. All I feel is, (note:I have seen the LG P500) ace has better looks than LG P500, and I personally like good looking phones and also the 5 MP camera with the LED flash is way better than the LG camera(I like taking good photos and good videos 640x480). the 3.5" screen is pretty good for video playback and I prefer touch buttons than the HW button for the back and menu functionalities.
All these are my personal views.
Goodluck on your buy!

Flash Player
hi, guys! is it true that our ace will have soon flash player?!
Qualcomm’s 800MHz MSM7x27™ mobile processor will be the first to enable Flash Player for the mass market segment of smartphones, allowing handset manufacturers to offer richer Web-based multimedia and graphics experiences for casual games, applications, videos and other Flash-based content.

NOPE.. I am comparing the default out of the box lg optimus 1 and ace...
though ace is the far nore newer launch.. it wud take sometime to it's development phase to flourish.. on the other lgo1 is getting older and thus u can expect soon people getting over it and moving to new launches... well thats just my observation and experince.. i may be wrong..

Looool it looks just like ZTE blade , but it has a few too many downsides . 256 ram , big resolution for qualcomm 7227 600 mhz :-s . And also it comes prepacked with 2.1 . And considering the fact it's practically a pretty no-name phone ( compared to O1 which sold about 2 million units in less than an year ) you can probabily guess that it doesn;'t have the same support by the community.
Being stuck on 2.1 is a very sad thing.
Cheers
Go for galaxy ace?
first off its got support with the cyanogen devs I men its listed on their first page so how can u say its not widely supported plus ram is unlockable to 512 mb..i have heard that zte blade or san francisco as it is called is very famous and has many roms.. further reading also showed that higher resolution makes the display gorgeous though it might get a bit slow.....as for samsung ace it doesn't even have a community ..when buying android phone s community is a must..ace will never get official gingerbread..the hardware is same as our o1 too nothing worth its price
Ps zte blade already has an official cm7 unstable port at cyanogen site
too large resolution for only a 600 mhz chip.
it will definitely put a strain on it just to process graphics. lower refresh rate and definitely lower fps.
and no official gingerbread update from zte is a big downside. and the battery is only 1250mah?
about galaxy ace, it doesn't have a good community support as optimus one, and i think it will be stuck on froyo cause it seems samsung is not going to upgrade it anymore.
i say stick to your optimus one first and just invest and save money on a better product that has a better support and that is known.
How is Xperia X10 running it???? SOny phones have such high resolutions
O1 rules . At first i was not happy because scrolling was not smooth i got frustrated n decided to sell this phone and get htc desire but after discovering this wonderful community and installing Megatron and mikos kernel for lag fix i am very happy with my phone. I would say that this phone sucks with the stock Rom. But once you install custom Rom you will feel that its speed has increased 2x. hardware of this phone is the best for this price. LG fuked up with the software.

Simple decision bro ...
If you use it mainly for chatting and reading etc - DELL XCD35
If you use it for playing games - O1
Bottom line is since they use the same chip but XCD35 has a higher resolution, the XCD35 would have to work that much harder to render the same image ... So once you get into big games, this will be a downside ...
However, if you use it ONLY for casual games (like paper toss and other timepass games) and use it for chatting and reading stuff, the higher res screen ( and much higher DPI) will make the text more pleasing to read ...

GO FOR LG P500
Best phone in lower price and it is getting 2.3 Gingerbread in Few Days
Well a bit good 3d gaming is always welcome..Looks to me like Optimus one is an all-rounder and is worth every penny...One question though if i use LCD density app from market will it increase my phone's resolution or will it just change the dpi or something..Can anybody tell if its the real thing and how it works ??? http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/change-android-screen-resolution-with-lcd-density/

doesn't lag on my mine @ stock speed. which rom?
BTW, heres my view:
things going against XCD35 = slow processor (can be OC'd), less ram (unlocking fails most of the time), bad battery life, no warranty (if getting from Orange).
things working for O1: 100-120Mhz OC is descent & doesn't affect battery life but increase in performance is noticeable, good battery life, cheap but comes with good, balanced specs (but wish it had a camera flash). & for those who don't mind to install custom roms, Gingerbread is cooked & ready to serve (ignore those flies please).

Does the dual core really make a difference?

I am trying to decide between the samsung infuse and the motorola atrix. I'm wondering if the atrix's dual core is an improvement over the infuse's single core.
thanks
I haven't seen anything noticble over other phones, I think at this point it's all about optimizing the os to the hardware. That way most phones run smooth and don't need to be that powerful. Poker even now the atrix I get lags when using the browser or watching some videos. Normal phone usage is comparable to phones with just 1ghz processor like the galaxy s or nexus one.

Well, run a Linpack test and see if the Infuse scores in the 70s. The results to that are the technical answer. Day to day use, I would say it helps, as I have some SetCPU profiles set up to max out at 750 MHz if the CPU temp gets too hot with overclocking (only 1100 MHz at this point), and it is noticeably slower- I would approximate, in my novice opinion, 750 MHz dual core is approximately equal to 1200 MHz single core, if all other things are equal.
i think i am going to go with the atrix. even though the screen is smaller, i feel that it has a lot more room for improvement then the infuse. Knowing how great the community is here, I have no doubt that the duel core and 1gb of ram will be put to good use

Good Choice. Honestly, as of right now the dual core is kinda useless, but when you buy any technology you always have to try to be future proof. It does not matter not, but it could matter later.
I would pick the atrix over the infuse, for other reasons. Such as Webtop (through HDMI), Bigger battery, Size (Opinion). The dual core vs single core should not be the central reason.
EDIT: Also the Infuse can currently be overclocked to 1.8 ghz.

Yes there are. Right now there around 4+ roms for Gingerbread, expect more when gingerbread officially launches. With CM7 on the horizon.
There are roms that reduce motoblur if not completely eliminate. I am still using froyo with GingerBlur P-ROM have been completely happy with it. It reduces moto blur to almost nothing.

screen size is perfect imo. i had the HD7 and i loved the big sceen the first few weeks, then got tired of it. cool for videos, but thats what my laptop is for lol. its almost imposible to use with one hand, which gets annyoing. thats just a personal preference though.
just wait till they optimize software with our hardware completely, will run smooth as butter. also when/if we get CM7 or other complete ROM.
I had a Samsung Captivate and was able to upgrade, so I looked long and hard at the Moto Atrix, HTC Inspire or the Samsung Infuse. Here are some of my concerns that I weighed:
1) Internal memory - 8GB, 16GB, 16GB (Inspire, Infuse, Atrix) - tie between Atrix and Inspire
2) Program RAM - 512MB, 512MB, 1GB (Inspire, Infuse, Atrix) - Atrix wins this one - less need for a task killer as lot more memory to pre-load without bogging down the phone.
3) Screen resolution - 800x480, 800x480, 960x540 (Inspire, Infuse, Atrix) - Atrix wins this one - I was a little concerned how pixallated the 800x480 might look on the larger screens.
4) Screen size - 4.3, 4.5, 4.0 (Inspire, Infuse, Atrix) - Infuse - if you want the biggest screen
5) Processor cores - Atrix wins this one with 2 cores over 1 core in the other phones.
Also, I saw how long of a delay it was for Samsung to get Froyo out for the Captivate and there was very little info coming from them.
Updates to the Captivate were through the PC program Kies which was a joke - if you are interested in that.
Samsung had no real way to transfer files, etc. between the PC and phone other than USB drive mode.
On the Captivate, the update to Froyo meant that your programs and their data were wiped out. So you had to have something like Titanium, which means you have to root, which means that you void your phone's warranty.
I have been a long time supporter of Samsung phones, who has sold a lot of phones, but I think they have disgruntled a lot of customers and I just wanted to give someone eles a try.
I chose the Motorola Atrix, which I have had for the past week.
Moto provides several ways to transfer files and settings between phone and PC (Moto Phone Portal and Moto Media Link).
The 2 minor updates that have been OTA were effortless and Gingerbread is said to be right around the corner.
I think the features on the Atrix make it a wise choice to have a phone that won't be as outdated at the end of 2 years as the other 3 phones mentioned above (including the Captivate).
Hope this wasn't too long and hope it helps you decide.

i have abt 16hrs................
You're on a O1 forum so obviously this will be full of bias answers. The thing is with this is that I believe these two phones will perform pretty similar. I have an overclocked O1 at 806 and I play most games are fine. But don't expect to not lag in high end games on both the O1 and the gio. If you are a heavy gamer, don't get either.

[Q] SGS2 vs IP4S (performance wise, UI, gpu, cpu, display)

Hello guys, i would like to know the truth, sgs2 vs ip4s in performances wise, ui, gpu and cpu.. Which is better? And which is closest to the future technology? My question is more to performance quality in every aspect as mentioned above.
Samsung Galaxy S2 or iPhone4S?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
You're asking this question in a bad place. Everyone here will simply say SGS2. Not just because it's better, but because we all love it . I'm pretty sure the SGS2 beats the iP4S in every aspect other than screen resolution. Not to mention that you are massively hindered by apple's OS on the iP4S...Unless you think SIRI is a good enough reason for you buy an entirely new phone of course...and I think I heard something about Carrier IQ being on most iPhones? I checked my SGS2 for it and it's clean... I'm using CRR v4.
Im not iphone user, i have 2 sgs2 in my hand, what im going to approach is about the performances since i heard so many things about iphone beat sgs2 in performance wise. My Sgs2 running at 1.8ghz oc, dual boot os, miui and cyanogenmod nightly. and i did several speed test with my friend's ip4s jailbroken, nothing can over my sgs2, but out there, many media said ip4s did better.. Is it just a hoax made by iphone's fan? Or if it is true, do tell me..

IP4s does not have a public jailbreak yet.
In term of hardware only!
Apple iPhone 4S
cpu Dual-core 1 GHz Cortex-A9
GPU PowerVR SGX543MP2
Samsung Galaxy S II
CPU Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A9
GPU Mali-400MP
SGS2 beat 4S in cpu (same cpu but SGS2 got higher clock)
but
4S beat SGS2 in GPU cause PowerVR SGX543MP2 is more powerful than Mali-400MP
BTW,I'm SGS2 user

do you actually need those people opinion? i dont care if other phone outperformance my phone, as long as i love it. i love android especially so any phone is ok as long as its not iphone. give me a quad core iphone and i'll sell it to buy a desktop pc! even dual core(4S) is more than enough actually.

Doesn't matter, it still outperforms the GSII in most benchmarks. But, then again the GSII is 6 months old, and doesn't have ICS yet. I suspect that the GSII should be able to beat the iPhone 4S in most benchmarks, especially browser (Sunspider) tests. The iPhone 4S definitely has the most powerful GPU out of any mobile smartphone right now

Sorry for my mistake. I forgot that they down clock it for battery life in iPhone but not in iPad.
Im reading all your opinions guys, dont get me wrong, im sgs2 user, i just wanna ask you guys for opinion, which i dont know about.
Thank you.

A benchmark like Sunspider tests not only the phone's CPU but also the browser. So Apple's highly optimised Safari can still beat the SGS2 even with a slower CPU. You are benchmarking both the CPU and the browser together, and in the SGS2 the browser is not the speediest one out there. So eventhough it has a quicker CPU, the browser is holding it back in Sunspider.

Yeah only because of ios optimization its fast. Other than that its nothing compared to sgs2.

Seems like you familiar with iphone, is there any other thing that (optimized or standard) that could beat sgs2?
Please describe, i would like to know.
Thanks for your response.

All the information about the iphone4s A5 GPU being more powerful is hogwash. It's a dual core based GPU, while the GPU can support up to 4 cores and is at a higher clock speed.
From a hardware perspective the Galaxy S 2 is superior in every way.

I'm sure I can find some random website to validate whatever view you want it to. I chose to look at a site like anandtech that looks purely at the facts. The facts are pretty straightforward, the GPU in the A5 chip used by the i4S is currently the best available on any smartphone. http://www.anandtech.com/show/4971/apple-iphone-4s-review-att-verizon/6

The apps for iOS are much better optimized for the iPhone than Android. iOS currently has no fragmentation to worry about so an app that works on the 3GS should work fine on the i4S. An app that works on my SGS2 probably won't work on my Sensation due to different screen resolutions. IMO apps for iOS are in general more polished when used with iOS.
The biggest difference between the SGS2 and i4S are AOSP and screen size. 4.3 inches looks gigantic compared to 3.5. Open source is always better than closed source IMO.
Both devices are excellent, just depends what you intend on using the device for.
Hmm i4s vs SGS2, i owned both, got an iphone FIRST because i know everyone loves it and everyone has it, so i went with the majority and i must say, woow thse iphone ppl are missing out on simplicity of use of andoid. I ****ING HATE the iphone for the following:
1. Bought a locked phone, had to buy a special sim to activate it. Y MAKE LIFE HARDER??
2. Pain in the ass to unlock it, used gevey. Y?
3. Cant use bluetooth to send data
4. Cant put a custom ringtone in a few easy steps
5. I dont need my phone to tell me what to do. I say: i want a new song. He says: stfu and connect me to itunes because there is NO other way you can do it.
6. Want to sync multiple folders w/pics, you cant. All pics have to be in the same destination.
7. Tiny screen, hate it.
8. Took a picture. Your options are: delete, and send. What happened to: details, crop, rotate left/right.
9. Connect to itunes only at home?? Wtf. (Or did they make it so you can connect to 5 PCs/MACs per phone now?) Even though, you could be at the 6th computer, and then what? You are screwed.
Conclusion: VERY limited capabilities. Maybe there are walk arounds to the things that piss me off, but when i buy a 600$ phone, i dont wanna be sitting for hours and googleing how to do this, and do that. Iphone has icloud imessage siri and all that ****, but honestly, id rather have open sourse over ALL OF THAT ANY DAY!!!

Hmm great find, I'm surprised that the GPU on the 4S would be superior given the fact that Samsung manufactured the A5 chip. One would think that the A5 chip being a month older would be slightly inferior or equal.

I agree with this assessment, I played around with an iPhone and was surprised with its sending options when using SMS/MMS, Android has far more options. I don't have a GSII, I have the original Galaxy S, so I know that back when one did a side by side comparison with iphone 4 and Galaxy S, the Galaxy S beat it in every department except screen resolution. I thought that the trend would continue.

Samsung Galaxy S2 or iPhone4S?

Hi there.
Today I will swap my SGS2 for an IP4S. Why? Here I say, in order of importance:
1) iPhone camera is better.
2) better or equivalent benchmarks altough SGS2 has better hardware specs (this link elucidates everything http://www.anandtech.com/show/4971/apple-iphone-4s-review-att-verizon/6)
3) 4.3 screen is too big for my hands and the iPhone screen has better resolution+pixel density.
4) better OS design (I don't care about the flexibility of ROM customisation, and the stock aspect from Samsung really sucks, even with another launcher and also other roms)
5) The aluminium/glass handles better the processor overheat than the plastic body from our SGS2.
I am aware the iPhone has also negative aspects compared to SGS2, but the most important aspects (for me) are covered above.

[Q] Is the Galaxy SII still worth to buy?

Hey guys,
I've been searching for good cheap phone that could last me a whole year. From what I see from ROM threads and YouTube, this device is still pretty active and also is capable of gaming pretty much most of the hardcore game titles like MC5. I don't like the Moto G very much because of its looks and display and camera and pretty much alot of stuff.
Since all of you here are Galaxy SII users, I have a question, is the phone still worth to buy? Is it still good and is this your daily driver? Thank you so much

If you really into hardcore gaming, then go for Moto G (adreno 305) it'll give you a little more fps to play games smoothly. MC5 runs at 30fps on my S2 with occasional dips to 19fps @ high settings. Apart from this , it still holds great potentional to run almost any app you throw at it. Really awesome.
What about the Galaxy SII HD LTE? Specifically the E110S. I know the screen is very low res but is the Snapdragon S3 and Adreno 225 chips capable or better than the Int SII? The phone is okay but the ROM development there is so little. I don't think theres alot of ROM for the E110S too.

The s2 is still a great phone which can handle pretty much all the new games at a decent playable frame rate, especially with a good custom kernel that lets you overclock both the CPU and GPU.
If you're on a budget, then it's one of the cheapest and most capable phones there is. Worth buying IMO.

Have you had good or bad experience here? Can you share with us some? Thanks

I'm running an s2 with latest cm11 nightly, and dorimanx v10 kernel.
I've given it just a little overclocking, CPU Max clock to 1400Mhz, GPU Max clock to 400Mhz, and a few other little tweaks here and there with the stweaks app which controls the dorimanx kernel. (SD read-ahead etc)
I was actually playing Modern Combat 5 there when I got the notification for your post, and it was playing very well.
If you want bang for buck, I doubt there's another phone that can be picked up so cheaply that can run the latest games so well. The s2 is still a very capable phone for gaming, and I've had nothing but good experiences with mine. Not got anything bad to say about it really..

Thats super awesome! But 1 more qn, is the RAM enough for all this? 700+ mb of RAM is still kind of in the "low" side in my mind. I heard tons of people wanting to have more RAM than a better CPU for some reasons? OH, and the battery life..
Sent from my S800 China Phone
A gig these days is starting to get on the low side compared to some of the new devices, but it's never actually caused me a problem yet.
Just use greenify to hibernate apps which aren't in use, and 1 gig is enough.
Battery. It may be worth buying a new battery if you're going to use an s2. If the battery is 2 years old then it's probably not up to its best. But I'm using the one that came with my s2 and my battery life seems pretty decent. I'd probably be getting a little more with a new battery though.

Well then a Galaxy will be my next phone. I was thinking if an Xperia V or Galaxy Note but since i prefer Super Amoled screens and good perfomance, Galaxy SII is my choice. Afterall, in Singapore, a Galaxy SII secondhand costs just 90-110 EUR.

I do like the xperia phones, but the only ones I'd want to own are the Z series.
For the price you can pick them up for, I don't think you can beat an S2, especially with a little overclock.

Just abit off topic here. IMO, Xperia Z series has terrible displays. My sis owns a Xperia Z and its colours are so unsaturated. I think they fixed this with the Z2 didn't they?
