Developers even working on this phone? - Motorola Droid X2

Just curious if any roms or anything are being developed for the DX2. I have an upgrade available and the $50 off loyalty user discount, and I'm debating between this, the iPhone, or the Charge(Really don't want to pay 250 for a phone but MEH)...
Being as I have a D1 now, and am getting an Asus Transformer on Monday, I really don't need a Android phone so I'm leaning to the iPhone. The DX2 keeps drawing me back with its Tegra 2 >_>

As soon as we have an SBF development will start. Will the previous bootstrap method work if it is modified for our phone? Maybe.

P3Droid confirmed TBH has plans for development of the X2 and D3 a few hours ago.
He also said they don't have a X2 yet, so no real time frame was given.

Man, I love those guys. They never let us down.

someone with a clue could just go ahead and try Edgan's 2nd init:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109287
if someone dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p[1 to 17] of=/sdcard/dx2-blk0p[1 to 17] i can poke around, see if your init.rc has changed, etc. *.prop files and /proc/mounts or output of /bin/df -h would help. gitbrew.org would probably give you space to host.
can y'all root with gingerbreak? please don't try the above 'dd' command unless you know what you are doing. you'll need root anyway...
pretty sure your device is much like atrix but cdma, less ram, smaller emmc, no webtop or front facing camera. otherwise, a lot of atrix tricks might work for you, but we don't have a huge number of devs working on our phone either =(

Yes u can root with gingerbreak
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk

It looks like they're labled 1-18 on the x2, I'll take a look after I get back from the gym.
Is there an atrix init.rc I could run a diff on?

1-18 is just like ours, but we have /webtop on p13, what do you have there? (p18 is our /sdcard and so would not be needed in a dump, nor would p16, our /data)
otherwise similar to: http://a-trix.net/wiki/index.php/Partitions ?
i've extracted atrix CG56 (boot.img) ramdisk and init.rc, attached to this post, please share your init.rc, *.prop, or just full system dump if you can.
whether Edgan's 2nd init hack will work (breaking in at mount_ext3.sh) depends on your particular init.rc and /system. also, we do not yet have a GUI bootmenu for atrix 2nd init. tenfar ported our CWM but i think others are getting the recovery built more or less direct from his git so you could port that somewhat easily.
if there is a translation of build.prop IDs to sbf filenames for your phone someone should detail that so the .sbf file can be pulled. (might be also depend on /default.prop from ramdisk) surely this is known by someone. otherwise a VZ employee should be kindly encouraged to leak it so you can dev safely!

Check the update it's not...

Not sure I can build an sbf name from that. Do you also have a default.prop?
I'm a little busy and this guy may also be able to figure out the rsd secure site for you:
http://modmymobile.com/forums/659-motorola-atrix-4g-general/562049-atrix-firmwares-superthread.html
AFAIK all Motorolas are hosted the same (US releases?) but filenames differ...
Good news is that init.rc looks similar enough that Edgan's 2nd init trick would probably work without almost any changes... Will diff more thoroughly later..

Well, if this means anything, the atrix already has a sbf, and a recovery. So hopefully the devs can do something with it for the dx2. I know p3droid is out, but all in all, I don't think it really matters. There's gonna be other devs working on this phone once everything gets figured out, its gonna be bad ass. It just takes time

Completely true, however he has insider sources at Moto - according to popular rumor. This news made my day.
OS 2.3.4
The X2 will go from a good phone to GREAT!
This could be huge for us!!!
A few weeks ago he started talking about 2.3.4 for the Droid Charge and then released a leak for the charge that was GB 2.3.4 a few days after he had acquired a charge to test it on.
For those of you that dont know, a donated X2 is in the process of being sent to him.
Move to proper forum.
The end of the world is coming, but no ETA...
Where is the link to donate?
Great and stuff but unless I can still have this bloatware off, and it runs better without Supercharge Script I'm not updating right away.
Am I understanding correctly that we will lose root with the GB update?
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
Without a doubt yes. Especially if all of the other OTA updates on other verizon phones held true to the same. I don't know if I'd rather lose root and get GB or wait until there is a confirmed root access.

Gingerbread 2.3.4 on the Droid 3 is really something else. Got one for my girlfriend and the UI along with the animations are ultra crisp and super quick. I've always been against Blur, but after seeing the Droid 3- I really hope the DX2 grabs that same Blur with the update.
I am more looking forward to the speed and knowing we are finally going to be able to take full advantage of the hardware we were blessed with..

Right here apparently.
I have my phone rooted and a lot of bloat frozen with TBP so should I defrost those before doing the update and also undo root?
I'm new to android, so silly question, but if you upgrade to GB will your phone be factory reset / loose apk's / contacts / etc?
Or is it much like using the system only SBF?
Thanks

If im understanding the article I just read on 2nd init, its pointless to run this unless you have a rom to install or are building a rom that uses it. This mod doesn't currently do anything for basic users and there is no need to have it currently. This mod is for serious developers only, am I right naven? I mean what's the point of hijacking the init if you have nothing to overwrite the boot process with? This is a very important mod , don't get me wrong and im very thankful for it.

Pretty much. That's why I didn't bother posting a long post about it. If you know how to use this, you can do pretty much anything shy of flashing a kernel or recovery.

Honestly, I think that guy was just a sham, no offense, but I tried to contact him so that I could fork his code and assist in getting Cyanogen, but he never contacted me back, and the code on his github hasn't even been touched for like two months.

Also, I haven't noticed this 2nd-init being discussed on other forums. Shouldn't you post it in as many places aa possible to gather more interest? Just a thought.

Please don't ever say that no one is doing anything with this. I am. CM7 is what I'm trying to do and with a dedicated version for the x2 (which my current version is a port of the ATRIX), I might be able to do something. The ONLY thing keeping me from continuing with CM7 is the new init script for it. Right now, I'm stuck though until kernel.org is back up and running.
I'm wondering, with 2nd init, would it be possible to boot into tenfars recovery without having to plug your phone in? If so, how hard would it be to implement?

Sorry. No offense intended. I think we had all got the impression that you were just blowing smoke or had dropped off the face of the planet because no one had been able to contact you regarding your efforts. Please, please, please continue. CM7 is our only ticket to having MIUI on this bad boy some day, and I am eager for that day to come. In the meantime, if there is any way I can help, hit me up. I know a lot about coding and debugging, but no real experience with Android ROMs, so maybe I can help...maybe not. Just let me know.

[Q] droid x2 overclocking kernal

I
Hello, I've rooted my ota Gingerbread x2 with "Petes motorola rooting tools" but would l ike to overclock. The stock droid x2 kernal does not seem to allow overclocking. IS there a kernal available for this?
Steve
Because of the locked bootloader there are no 3rd party kernels available.
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda premium
As BrianKLV said, the bootloader is locked. Until that is unlocked we won't get any over-clocking done. The best thing you can do right now is run the SuperCharger scripts as far as helping performance.

It's actually not that silly. I was wondering the same thing because I had the Droid X and was able to overclock it and it had a locked bootloader. So one would think, that if it can be done with the Droid X then overclocking should be able to be done with the Droid X 2.
From what I've read, overclocking can be done with 2nd-init, But it took the DX almost a year to get there, so the DX2 might be a little faster but it's still too soon to expect any results.
It's all got to do with the most important resource any of these phones have : independent development by creative people.

Ha! Whoops, I should have check my spelling. I really made myself look like a dumb ass.
I meant I had a Droid X and it did not need unlocked bootloader or 2nd init to overclock. I use to use jrummys overclocking app long before 2nd init even came out for the X.
So that being the case its possible that our X2s may be able to still be overclocked. It may just take some waiting. Hopefully its sooner than later.

The X had a Dev phone version that was unlocked. Because of this the community had access to many files that otherwise would be unaccessible. With these they were able to create kernel modules that allowed overclocking even with a locked boot loader.
Unfortunately there are no X2 Dev phones in the wild. No Dev phone = no files, no files = no way to create a overclocking module, hence no way to currently overclock the X2.
Our only hope is a unlocked bootloader or a module based off the atrix kernel, unfortunately the people who are in the know don't really seem interested in trying. To busy with 4G phones lol.

Not true.
Not to be rude, but when I didn't have experience I read. It would have taken about 30 seconds of searching on google to find out that the X2 cannot be overclocked and why, probably less time than it took to create this thread.
Laziness, pure and simple.
When I have an issue I read. I was just putting out what I knew. Which wasn't the correct answer and Someone with more knowledge corrected me. Which taught me something new that I was unaware of and I appreciated.
So I hope you were talking about the person that created the original post, not me.
Speaking for the original poster. If you don't have anything constructive to add to the tread, you should avoid being an ass and shut your mouth. We have all been there in the beginning when experimenting and trying to find info. There is alot of info and reading to due, so it is also easy to miss something or not understand correctly.
So your post is a pointless waste of time and added absolutely nothing constructive.

DX2 thoughts..

if VZW released the DX2 in Europe (possibly with an unlocked BL) couldn't we use files off that phone to unlock our BL? (if any of this was released, of course!)
Also, the photon now has their BL unlocked, and the DX2 and Photon are cousins couldn't we try their method(s) to unlock our BL? Unless that's not possible at all.
Sorry guys, these are just random thoughts that have crossed through my head.
I don't think we could because VZW would probably put a different bl on the Europe version. And I think I read our kernel doesn't have an option to unlock it any ways, so we would need a new kernel that gets past the sig check, then try to unlock it. Could be wrong though. Still learning this stuff haha

Verizon Wireless, who is an American Subsidiary wouldn't release a phone in Europe, lol. And Moto won't release the phone there because A. It is old news now, and B. They are predominantly a GSM region.

I think so. But I'm not completely sure. I need to go back and read the bl notes thread.
But there are ways around it, like the theory of 2nd init starting a different kernel. So maybe some one could find a way around and we wouldn't have to wait for the SBF. But I think the SBF would come faster, if we get one.

In the many threads we have on unlocking the bootloader there is much discussions that have been beaten to death about unlocking using other phones methods. Bottom line it just isn't possible due to kernel differences and hardware differences. Check the "project thread" in development section for more info about why.
there was a LOT of discussion about it around the time we got the ATRIX ports as well.
And the ring able to start a second kernel after ours starts needs kexec to work along with 2nd init. I don't believe 2nd init alone will be able to start a new kernel. People had worked on kexec I believe but it didn't go far. We need more of a team to get something like this wiring but as of now we have requested a couple dev teams to help us out but were told "not working on x2 at this time....busy with other projects" or something to that effect. Hopefully we will get that leaked sbf that has our unlock one day....I did hear a while ago from a little birdie that an sbf was found that had oem unlock option but it didn't work/unlock wasn't implemented so hopefully we are getting a little closer.
**don't ask me where I heard it...and don't ask for any links for proof...I have NO proof for what I say....just take it as it is....believe if u want or don't believe if u want....either way keep your eyes and ears peeled and keep trying to find us that unlock option....this phone could destroy many others if we get unlocked***

Moto Root has been patched

Hey guys, this is from P3Droid's Twitter, don't jump on any new moto updates!
P3Droid
Service Announcement: Don't take any moto updates the root path has been patched !!! You've been warned.
... Motorola wants businesses to buy their phones. I bought a phone with a freaking Tegra2 for freaking games and power. Not business. Besides, if they wanted to be business friendly they would have faster, better updates.
What The****
Moto there you go again.
I wish they would spend their time working on things that matter instead of this kind of crap. It'll eventually be root-able again but in the meantime, it's a pain in the ass.
From what I hear, Zergrush root method will root 2.3.5 devices.

true. but I wonder if any newer 2.3.5 leaks will have it patched.
I wonder if the forever root mod will hold up tho?
Motorola is pissin me off wit this junk for real
I am sure P3 would have tried Zergrush before he posted that.

Your right, if moto was putting their resources towards better development, they would have better/faster updates for all their devices. But they want to control how people use their devices

HTC doesn't look like they are going to be as user friendly for much longer. There is no permanent root for the Rezound yet.

Same here. Looks like my next phone will be the Samsung nexus prime. Unlocked and not Motorola!
I tried zr for 235 and it kept failing w/ win7 so I sbf'ed to 234 and used voodoo rootkeeper and it worked to keep root on the latest (1.3.413).

I installed roots keeper after reading another post. How do you restore your root with the app if you loose it? The app does not really say how to regain your root.

I'd jump ship too, but I'm already 6 months into the contract. I'd rather not spend the full price on a device. I'm sure some good brand new open device will be available in a year from now. Maybe the next nexus?
There is already a huge bug with the nexus that ****s with the volume. Apparently the shielding on the inside is bad. My Rezound is a solid phone, and after comparing it with a Galaxy Nexus, the Rezound is absolutely the better phone. I don't give a **** about NFC.

How's that whining noise in audio treating you? Sounds annoying from what I've been reading?

I hope u know that Verizon has locked down the bootloader on nexus.
hopefully it doesn't stay that way too long.
sorry
I don't have the issue. Not everyone is having it. Most people with that issue are having other issues like overheating.
