I want to setup an in car entertainment system for the rear pessengers of my car for a very long drive thats coming up. Previous I used an old laptop strung between the driver and front passenger seat which provided movies etc. I would also like to display navigation info on the rear screen.
So the choices I have- get a small HDMI screen in the back- connected the S2 to it and that give me everything. Nav from the S2 and movies if required.
The other option is to have 2 seperate 'cheap' android tablets in the back (mounted via a headrest mount) with movies on both- but the cheap tablets don't have gps built in. So can I via wifi send the gps data from my S2 to both tablets a the same time- so I can load NavFree. Also is it possible to stream from the S2 to 2 tablets at the same time. What I mean is use the S2 as a media server with the movies on it's micro SD card- and stream via WIFI to both tablets. That way I can get really cheap android tablets.
The last option is get android tablets with built in GPS- prices are dropping for the cheap 'non brand' tablets- GBP130 should be enough for a 7 inch tablet with GPS built in.

I'd be very wary of cheapo tablets.
I was lucky enough to score 2 x 32gb HP Touchpads in the fire-sale Sunday night.
Being an Android fan, I'd go the tablet route. An HDMI screen might be pretty steep, and wouldn't offer the touchscreen controls. You'd be stuck with what's running up front.
But more often than not, with Android tablets, you get what you pay for. Would 1 tablet be enough in the back?
I think the GBP130 tablets are going to be crap, though. Unless you find a good deal on a good brand.
I noticed I can get refurb 15 inch HDMI input LCD for £80 from PCWORLD. A single 10 inch tablet might be ok to share between the rear passengers. I wish I could try one of the cheapo android tablets before I committed to purchase.
My girlfriends' SII recently got her screen burned in,which got me thinking "can this happen to me?" Is it even a problem for us EVO users? I know the screen for the SII wasn't an LCD screen , and I believe the EVO's is. Any answers will be appreciated!
LCD do not burn in, which is what the EVO LTE has.
IPS LCD screens can have what is called image retention or image persistence, which looks like burn in, but it is temporary and goes away if you stop using your device for awhile or flash a bunch of colors quickly on the screen for awhile. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_persistence
Amoled screens can have burn in, which is what your girlfriend has. This is why I cannot understand why people want onscreen buttons on phones like the galaxy nexus. I would guess a majority of Galaxy Nexus phones will have their navigation buttons permanently displayed(it is really faint usually) on their phones within a year and it can probably be seen during any full screen activity in which a gray or similar light colored background is shown.
I am not sure if the Super LCD2 used in the EVO LTE is an IPS screen or not(I think it is based on a quick google search and the fact that the colors and blacks look amazing) so I can't tell you for sure if it will have image retention issues, which again, are not permanent anyway.
Thanks! That's exactly what I thought, I just wanted a second opinion. Thanks for clarifying the difference between image retention and screen burn in. I'm fine with it as long as its not permanent.

It's meant to detect dead pixels, but by cycling through all the colors, it "erases" the image retention.
Ideally, you can find a video on youtube (there are plenty), just search for monitor calibration or hdtv calibration and then play that video for 5-20 min. (The video should just be rotating full screens of colors like the dead pixel finder)
I love my dear Rezound, as it has helped me so many times, and maybe might've even saved my life at one point. I am the only 1 out of 5 lines who is not tied down to a contract and does not have a Samsung Galaxy S III or Note 2, because I love this phone that much. But the problem is, after 6-7 months after I got it, it fell down on the concrete sidewalk and cracked the screen. It was only two really small hairline cracks, so I didn't think anything of it, only the occasional annoyance that I dropped it whenever I watched a YT video. I was fooling around with a bunch of my friends, and it fell out of my pocket, now the screen's broken to the point where if I touch it, I can sort of like...feel the screen being pushed down. The touch screen still works, and I'm planning to get it replaced at a local mall sometime this month. So I was wondering...if the store rips me off and uses just a cheap screen, will the display be bad? Will I not get that same, cool, color as I did when it wasn't broken?
TL;DR if a store that fixes phones uses a low quality screen, will the colors not be the same as it was before?

it depends on the service at the store. If they charged less than $50 to replace it. 9 times out of 10 it was just the glass.
if it was more. then they did replace the lcd. A lot of the times they will buy OEM but you do have the off chance of getting a China knock off.
tl:dr it is quite possibly they did replace with a bad lcd. Most places offer a warranty on it so i would go talk to them.
If just the digitizer is cracked and not the LCD, then they should just replace the digitizer and all the colors and richness will remain. The only Rusk is dead spots on the touch screen which if its a reputable store should have some kind of warranty I would think.

My cousin dropped his phone and completely shattered the front glass. Phone still worked fine though. Went shopping for a replacement LCD+Touch glass part and finally found a shop which charged him about 60 bucks (this included service).
The display is not terrible, but it's definitely a no-brand spare, it's darker, has a blue-ish tint to it and on top of that, it seems to run on a lower resolution. It works fine for looking at memes on social media and stuff, but text and icons look jagged. The system effectively believes it's running untouched at 1080x1920 (checked via "wm size"), but the display itself is pushing less pixels than that.
He can live with that, though, so here comes my question point for discussion: Is there any practical way to measure the actual, physical resolution of this display?
I just thought it would be nice for Android to render everything at this display's native resolution. Jagged edges wont be gone, but I'm pretty sure using appropiate graphics assets and proper density is better than whatever downscaling is happening here.

Get a magnifying glass and count the number of physical pixels.
All jokes aside, if you're rooted you can first try figure out what panel you have with "dmesg | grep panel" in terminal.
Other than that you should go back to the store your cousin got the screen repaired and demand an explanation from them and a refund.
Attached is the output I get on my own Z2 which has a OEM display. I didn't need root for this hehe. Lets see what it looks like on his phone next time I meet with him.
I really think requesting a refund is out of the question, it's been a few weeks since the repair took place and service technicians are a PITA to deal with 'round here.
Anyhow, what I'm worried about the most is software updates on the repaired Z2. Chinese knock-off parts are known to stop working or straight out break when treated with non-factory default firmware. It's sitting on 5.1 as we speak.
Update: The replacement display works after an upgrade to M build .291, the phone is now rooted and equiped with TWRP. I'll try to run

Are they jagged or actually interlacing? I got a replacement that looked jagged but then I noticed they were actually interlacing which kind of looks like every other pixel is tearing slightly.
That gave it a jagged look. So it may be the right resolution, but just a faulty LCD. I was sent a new screen on request (ebay).
Either way you should get a replacement.
i got some low res display cheap from china. it was horrific resolution.. device also crashed ala bluescreen-of-death, especially when plying blossom blast or watching fb video. i ordered a display from eu on ebay, and now i'm happy again. and so is the device.

Ok turns out he broke the display again. This second replacement actually looks great, there's little difference when compared side-by-side with my Z2. Good thing he's no longer doomed to a bad display haha.

Not sure how this is supposed to help with resolution. Perhaps it would help with the blue tint, but the stock white balance does this as well.

Glad to know that. Who is this "eu"? Europe? Lol I'm out of touch here. Glad to know you got a fine display.
I REALLY hope to never ever need to go through display replacement lottery.
Compared to other devices, this Xperia is not hard to repair, and there are cheap spare parts, and quality parts available from a number of EUropean sellers.
Anyway, it's Friday, good to see this forum again, it's really a nice place.
Oh yeah, my daughter after terrorizing me for years finally made me buy her an iPhone, well... I'm waiting for replacement display nr5 for this 5s in a year now. Lol.

Sorry, he bought his display from a brick and mortar store, I have no idea where they get their parts from
So I cracked my screen on my note 4 and bought a new note 4 off ebay it was a "for parts" one. But the screen looked fine so I took a chance I put my motherboard in and it seemed to work... but I noticed looming at any picture and video on it its ended up being really blurry...everything else looks fine like icons and whatnot. But yeah any media ducks bad and youtube won't eve. Let me put the video quality past 1080p... I got a bunch of screen checker apps and they all say the resolution is 1440 so I'm not sure what's up... the 's pen doesn't work rather which usually means that it's knockoff... but on the inside it still has that copper layer behind the screen that is for the s pen... also the cables and chip connected to the screen are identical to my regular not 4....it does not look fake...is there any chance that this is some software glitch or the plugs are dirty or something or does it seem like I got a knockoff screen. ..the whole phone looked brand new just hard to believe it's fake especially since all the markings and hardware seemed idental on both phones...I'm so confused.. plz halp meh...
