Front Camera? - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys I am looking into getting a Dell Streak sometime next week for I cannot pass up a $50 phone. Anyway I had heard some rumors about the front camera being disabled out of box. I was just wondering if this is true or not? If it is true would flashing a custom ROM fix this? The front camera is the biggest reason for me getting this phone. Please let me know.
Thanks,
Matt(AkumaMax)

The front camera works fine now, but compability with apps isnt exactly strong

Before you purchase it read a little more about the screen and people having broken/cracked screens.

I see a lot of them on ebay with cracked screens. I'm pretty good with phones. and dropping something that big is pretty hard. I just wanted to know about the camera.

You're right - dropping such a big phone would be extremely difficult since the phone + Otterbox Commuter/Defender case have a good grip for people with slippery/small hands...unless really careless....but still, accidents do happen sometimes though......

I cracked my screen by tapping the home button! The LCD is put under too much stress by the gorilla glass being squeezed on.

Loose glass around edges of TF201

I was just wondering if anybody else has an issue with loose glass panel towards the edges of your asus transformer prime? In particular folks who just purchased one. There is about a 1/4" of play mostly at the top/left side of the screen around the volume rocker and to a lesser extent on the right side. It's not a lot, but noticable since that's right where you normally hold it.
I already exchanged it for another one at Office Depot, and this new one has the exact same issue. I can't imagine this would be "normal." Maybe just a defective batch? In either case, I haven't noticed any other issues in the 2 days I had the first one.
They both started with S/N# C30KAS...
C1O from office depot reporting in. Have the exact same issue, right out of the box. My case does make it unnoticeable, though. I'd hate to have to rma it for this.
It is not normal. There are little hatches which hold glass to the frame. If they are broken (they are very thin, I guess they can easily be broken on assembly line) there is no way to fix it apart from taking it apart completely and putting some double sided tape. I would, and did, return it.

Do you realize how much that is? (I assume you mean a quarter inch)
I would just return it.
Yes, it's about a quarter inch. Unfortunately it seems as though these 2 were the last in stock... anywhere. But that's kind of what I thought; just seemed odd to have 2 in a row like that. I guess I'll play with it for a few more days to make sure I still like the TF201 in general and return it later (within the return window). Or maybe if they get a new batch in... exchange it again.
I like to see a picture of this. Quarter inch is really massive.

Yeah, it wasn't good, but it's returned now. Although this 2nd one isn't nearly as bad. In fact, it's only loose on the right side. This is probably closer to an 1/8". So it's doesn't go above the outter bezel.
But I guess the question is whether folks consider any play whatsoever acceptable, normal, or something they even care about. In particular if it's in a case. Not to mention the concern that it might get worse or seperate completely.

On a good unit there is no play. Actually, there is, but it's so small that you have to be looking for it and even then you'd struggle to find it.

I'm having the exact same problem, mine also makes an audible "squeek" when pressed, and the compression is definitely visible. The difference though is that mine came back repaired from when I sent it out for RMA, not a replacement. I'll be getting on the phone tonight with them, as the screen is now also starting to display Mura (which it was sent in for the first time I RMA'd it.), and the screen bleed is getting notibly worse to the point where it is very annoying.
mine is also loose in the upper left hand corner area when held in landscape.
On mine there's still lots of areas I can press down but its under 1mm.
I'm more bummed about dust I now see under the screen. Doesn't Apple laminate the lcd to the screen? Wish Asus done it.
i have the same issue. My wife noticed it and I decided that I could live with it.

I see it kinda the same way... I only notice it from time to time in landscape mode. But sometimes I have to test the whole side to find the spot again.
I'm having a really great time with the device, can't think about returning it for for this imperfection.
I've got the same problem albeit the flex is very small.
Well, I decided to at least order a MoKo folio cover case and see if that minor flex is still going to be an issue for me or not. I already don't like the way it feels carrying it around by itself. The edges make it feel somewhat awkward and uncomfortable. So maybe the case is all it needs. Because other than that, I haven't found any other issues, yet.

Buttery Smooth Glass like Nexus 4?

Hey guys. I've heard multiple people comment on how the glass on the front of the Nexus 4 is smoother than any phone screen they've ever touched. Nothing to do with the software or jellybean but like the actual glass surface of the screen.
Does the LG Optimus G have this same buttery smooth glass? Has anyone been able to compare the 2 side by side?
My Nexus 4 will be arriving this week, but as I've always had SD storage on my phones, and I'm on AT&T in Vegas where LTE speeds are 15-50mbps and HSPA is 1-3mbps I'm really thinking I may sell the Nexus and pick up the Optimus G instead. But this butter screen I'm hearing about intrigues me, hopefully it's on the E970 too

Not sure about "buttery", but it is slippery as **** all over when you first get it. Be careful with this phone! After a few days of use where your hand-oils get on it, it's not as bad.
As others have remarked - build quality is amazing, battery life is great. Loving this phone... just need to get Google Wallet on it somehow

We do also have the latest technology from LG, where they have incorporated the touch sensor into the glass. This makes for better response as well as better clarity since the pixels are closer to the screen.
I'ver noticed that this screen gets small scratches much quicker then my Galaxy SII, I had that phone for 2 years and it seriously only got a few tiny scratches through all my use. But after only 4 weeks with my OG, it has the same amount if not more haha. I may return it for a replacement as soon as my screen protectors come in.
What's your source for that info?

It feels buttery smooth to me. It's the most slippery feeling glass I have ever touched on a phone. Let me put it this way: I felt compelled to purchase an insurance plan for the phone. I have NEVER had an insurance on a phone before this phone.

I actually had it on a completely horizontal surface and it slid off LOL.
I had my phone sitting on the AT&T box that the phone came in, completely flat on my desk. 2 seconds later the phone slid off of it. This is my definition of buttery smooth.

The other thing I've noticed is that in addition to the smoothness, it doesn't get as smudged up as my prior phones. And it cleans much easier as well, making it awesome. I hate having all kinds of fingerprints on my phone, and this one never has any due to the way the glass is engineered. Awesome stuff.

So it's pretty much safe to say the screen, touch screen, and glass are basically identical on the Nexus 4 and Optimus G?
My Nexus 4 says it shipped days ago but still no tracking information shows up...was supposed to come yesterday and didn't and yet UPS doesn't know where it's at lol. I just ordered an Optimus G off ebay at a great price so if anything I can try both phones and sell whichever one I don't like, but I really do enjoy LTE over AT&T's horrid HSPA in Vegas. It's basically same exact speeds as 3G. So I'll probably end up keeping the OG even though I love the look of the Nexus. Just put a damn LTE radio in there Google!
This is exactly why I got the first silicone jelly case I could find even if it is normally for an LS 970 instead. Getting tired of picking my phone off the floor..

Nexus 10 with different screens.

I ordered a replacement N10, because of back flex and got it today.
Not only is the back flex worse, the screen looks worse. Compared to my original N10 the replacement looks duller. My original N10 by far looks more vibrant while the replacement has a noticeable warmer and duller color temp.
Back the replacement goes... I will live with the back flex. I really don't want to play exchange roulette like I did with the nexus 7. Those of you considering exchanging your Nexus might want to consider you might get a worse one.

Samsung's the single source for the LCD panel. If there are big variations between them it's because the tolerances on the production line are off and their slipping through QC. Some deviation from panel-to-panel is normal. If you put three SGS3's side-by-side each will have a slight variation in temperature. But what you're describing doesn't sound slight.

I think I had a similar issue to you, but for the better.
My replacement arrived yesterday as my original device had bad back flexing
The new one has a much more vibrant and brighter screen than the old one (the autobrightness seems to react much faster and ramps the brightness more appropriately)
The replacement came shipped with build JVP15L, so I had to two updates, one to JOP20C and then again to JOP20D, weird huh?

This is somewhat good news as I seem to have a warmer screen and also suffer from light bleed so I'm probably going to get it exchanged. Hoping I get a replacement with a neutral or cooler screen. neutral or cooler toned screens tend to have better contrast for some reason vs the warmer screens.

First unit which I kept has very little light bleed, nothing significant. The replacement had horrible light bleed, there were light streaks coming from the lower right corner.
Other than back flex, I am happy with my N10's screen.

It is considered a defect because normally the internal components should touch the inside of the casing, so there is no cavity between the two and therefore no flexing when pressed .
In the case of the flexing units, the casing is bowed ever so slightly outwards, thus creating a cavity, so the casing flexes inwards up until it touches the components inside.

Is it actually a "bow" or is it just an air gap between the battery and the back? Mine flexes when I press it, and makes a "click" like glue forcibly coming unstuck when I release.
It's hardly the end of the world though. I'd never have realised it until it was mentioned on XDA because I'm not heavy handed enough to go squeezing it, nor would I have had cause to "press" hard on the back of it while it's lying face down.

Mine was both, a bowing which caused an air gap. It didn't click at all, just flexed even when i was just holding it as the bowing was greatest directly underneath where you place your fingers. If i looked edge onto the tablet from the top, the bowing was apparent.
Figured seeing as i'm paying for it, wanted a perfect device and Google were happy to replace it, why not get it replaced?

I wonder how much cheaper our gadgets would be if hordes of people on XDA didn't RMA 5-6 times because they go actively looking for defects they wouldn't notice otherwise?
I've been thinking about this all day. My N10 has some ripples around the detachable rear cover that I hadn't noticed until looking at the photos in this thread. Is it obvious when I show it to others? No. Does it affect operation in any way? No. Have my fingers ever felt the ripples as I use it or rotate viewing mode? No.
So why are the cosmetics such a big deal to some and not others? Obiously some rate the appearance of the device to be more important than what it does. I know I'm going to get flamed big-time for this, but worship of form over function seems to be a common trait of the Apple crowd. I truly appreciate beauty, but not so much in a tool. I used an iPad for a year and always felt like I was using a fine watch: attractive, but not adaptable to what I wanted to do. Those of us that value function more will probably never understand the other way of thinking.

Mine has ZERO light bleed and I know all about that. I use to own 3 Infinity's and that's because the first two had intolerable light bleed the third I just lived with.
I'm guessing google sacrificed build quality so they could keep prices down -- Dont really understand why it is important for your device to "look" cool when the purpose of the device is media consumption / productivity. Besides, I would bet upwards of 60% of consumers get a case for their device...whats the point of that back-flex when you have a hard shell case?

If I didn't know any better that looks exactly like what would happen if someone tried to haphazardly disassemble his Nexus 10 by trying to pry the glass out of the shell with a screwdriver. That isn't a defect.. That was done by a human.

You relish being an a-hole? You buy a 500 dollar tablet and you don't expect to have such things. I personally would call Google for a replacement unless the screen is perfect otherwise. My n10 repair came back with one of those marks after Samsung replaced the screen for dead pixels and the thing had awful flex and light bleed. They also managed to scratch up the back of it and i had to send it back in. If it bothers you get a replacement.

Manufacturers must love people like you, they get to make more mistakes with products, while the consumer doesn't care, thus keeping costs down
the fact is i also dont use a case as yet, mayb the defect was since day 1 but i never cared to notice it, untill i was putting on the bodyguardz screen protector

You can see my pics, mines exactly the same, but bottom right corner. And I know the plastic's never been picked at, never been out of it's case...
I think there must be batch of these that has this defect... it looks way to smooth and well fitting to be the result of post-production damage.
i would RMA this ASAP. definitely a manufacture defect.
After taking mine apart (trying to get at an ant)... I can tell you that it is definitely a defect (result of inadequate cooling during injection molding, maybe...) I can also tell you it probably does not affect the actual build reliability (quality is a different subjective measure that is an individual matter), due to how they are assembled.

Problems with Xperia z2

So far I have see those problems and those make me think twice before buy it.
1- getting too hot easily. Not only when recording 4k videos some users find it getting too hot while browsing Internet. That's not acceptable. I don't want it to be blown off in my hand.
2- screen is dim. I thought that's since I watch the videos on YouTube. Other phones such as samsung s5 and HTC One m8 has got a lot brighter screen. If it is sunny you can see your phone screen that's not good for people especially in hot countries.
3- gap issues. I don't know if this is a big issue but still shouldn't be like that.
4- speakers. So people are happy some people are not. Some people are having issue with income calls they say it's not loud enough and only one speaker works.
Those are so far I can remember/told by people here. Maybe that's why it's been delayed for release who knows.
Do you guys have any other issues with the phone? Please let us know £550 for pay as you go phone is a lot of money I don't wanna regret after I buy it.

1..... All phones these days get warm when in use, id be more concerned if it wasnt heating up, as for the 4k recording it doesnt bother me too much, its not a feature ill be using anytime soon and im assuming the related software can be fine tuned and updated by sony so it doesnt strain the processor as much
2......Im in great britain so not the sunniest place but weather was quite bright over easter weekend and i had no issues seeing the screen outside
3......As long as its not affecting the water resistance, who cares. If in doubt either treat it like any other phone near water or get it tested by sony
4......Speakers im 50/50 on.... the sound is crisp and clear, just not as loud as other phones. The sound is supposed to be mono on an incoming call, it also cuts to one speaker on my blutooth speakers and on my galaxy if i have headphones in and recieve a call the right earphone cuts out

1..... All phones these days get warm when in use, id be more concerned if it wasnt heating up, as for the 4k recording it doesnt bother me too much, its not a feature ill be using anytime soon and im assuming the related software can be fine tuned and updated by sony so it doesnt strain the processor as much

You would be more concerned if it wasn't heating up?
You don't care about gaps?
Yeah... we now know you...
Lol... Anyway do u think they will do a fix for the one speaker ****e...

yep id definately be concerned if it didnt heat up while im using it, just about every electrical item i own heats up when in use, if it doesnt then its probably not working properly.......
I dont mind gaps...... as long as they dont affect the waterproofing, my z2 appears to have a couple of (extremely small, less than 1mm) gaps, but im not about hide it away in shame or demand an exchange for a cosmetically perfect handset.......... unless of course they cause the phone to die a watery death, but i doubt that
and finally i'll stick with my overall opinion of the speakers, but as for the one speaker dropping out ignore anything i said, i was mistaking what you was on about with something else.... my bad lol
I have just received my z2 this morning - opened the box and found the phones back glass panel is raised above the edge of the phone in one corner by 1mm or so.. from the Power button to the bottom corner.
It spoils the whole feel of the phone as its easy to catch the glass.. I imagine its going to get damaged quickly
So I now have to contact company I got it from to arrange a swap, or send it off to Sony.. probably at my own expense.
Premium phone and price with not so premium build quality.. This should never have passed Quality Control.

give it back to place you bought. do not give a single penny for returning it. its not your fault and it is not supposed to come out from your pocket. do not get it fixed get a brand new one.
faulty phones make me think again why the z2 is postponed so many weeks ahead. there is definitely something wrong with this phone in one point. overheating, out of shape design, gaps on the top of the device, speakers etc.

Do you think they would have solved all these problems by the start of May (which is when most people get their phone)? If not then all these delays would have been a complete waste of time...

Start of may is not guaranteed for release. Some companies giving date for 24th of may. Hope everybody will be happy at the end of the day but Sony is not doing well so far. Postpone is a really bad start and faulty phones comes up after waiting months or weeks is more disappointing. If you are not ready for launch do not announce your phone.

I cannot get a decent close up using my OneX..
I'll hunt out my normal camera and see if I can get a decent close up.

You can see the glass panel is raised above the aluminium frame.

Damn, that's really poor workmanship. Let's hope your replacement is perfect and you don't need to wait too long

Oh man there are a lot more problems than I thought. People complaning to Sony directly instead of telling people here . I think Im right with my opinion never buy a newly released phone there are always problems at some point. Wait a month or so and get them after. My wife bought newly s4 when it was out the phone was getting far too hot she was scared to use it cos it might blow off on her hand. we complained and got a brand new one which is okay. All my old iphones were the same some had sound problem some had glass problem.
It seems that Sony were in so much of a rush to assemble the phones to get them 'out there' that quality control suffered big time.
Am gonna make sure that mine is perfect before keeping it even if it means returning it time after time.
Am hoping all of these build issues are solved when its officially released in May
