Any Way to Replace MotoBlur Contact App with stock Android Contact App? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I cannot view my categories like business, friends, family etc. using the motoblur contacts app. It is terrible. Is there any way I can replace it with the stock contacts app found on most other android phones??
p.s. tried fooling around freezing things with titanium backup, not sure what else to do. I really need the stock contacts experience need some help!

Did you try any market contact apps? I recommend go contacts but check out a few different ones see if you like any.

I really dont want a 3rd party contacts app. I want the stock contacts app as it will also replace the contacts section in the phone app. Also because I feel it is sorda ridiculous to have to use a 3rd party app for contacts.

Is there really no way to get the stock android contact experience?? Please anyone!!

Just checking in for an answer myself...

I love these "I don't like 3rd party apps" replies.
1) fixes the problem
2) you can get ones that have a dialer included
3) you can even find ones that look like stock
4) if you are afraid of using 3rd party apps why use Android?

Reasons why i dont want to have to resort to using a 3rd party app for CONTACTS....
1) I shouldn't have to.
2) Because contacts is integrated into the phone app which I don't intend on using a different app for also.
3)I dont like the look of the 3rd party apps icons I want the stock look(I dont want to have to skin them either)
4)I've already tried a few and I much prefer the stock contacts app found on non-blur devices
So I ask again. Isn't there some way to replace or strip the motoblur elements from the stock "CONTACTS" app??

I don't know if this would work, but it might be worth a shot:
I'd SCOUR the XDA android forums for a "dump" from a different phone that might contain the stock contacts APK.
I truly cannot direct further than that, because I have no idea where to go from there.
Obviously, if you find a dump and a working stock APK, share it with us!
Good luck!

Doesn't GingerBlur have the stock contacts app? Since it is based off Gingerbread and all.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it doesn't. You can tell it's motoblurred up because when you swipe left and right when looking at your contacts, you can get to the "status updates" page (meant for facebook, etc.). The stock app doesn't have this (99% sure), not that it's a big deal at all (one way or the other) for me.
[OP's probably red eyed, running on XX number of red bulls trying to find a dump right now.]

Just tried "Go Contacts" and, it's a skinned mess of the stock.
Hopefully Gingerbread can "help" fix what Motoblur messed up...

Does the contacts look any better on the Gingerbread leak?...

anyone have a screenshot of what it looked like in the before time? I barely even booted my atrix before putting 2.3.4 on it. Contacts exists as a tab on the dialer (though it has a separate launcher icon, I hate that crap). The dialer offends all the senses but the contacts bit is pretty simple. A list of contacts, with pictures (from Google Contacts I'd imagine, I haven't signed in to facebook on this), little status icons to show if they're online on google talk, a search button, and a button for groups. I only have the one group, "My Contacts" from Google. I tried creating a group on the phone, it doesn't appear as though it'll be synced to the cloud though so it's fairly pointless. I could be wrong on that last bit.

[Q] Go Contacts missed call notification

I'm using Go Contacts as my default call app. Although whenever I get a missed call the notification doesn't disapear from the bar.
I need to open the main Contacts Samsung app for it to disappear or clear the bar.
I don't seem to find any configurations to change this.

bump... still no workaround for this?
I use Go SMS not Go Contacts so can't say i have this problem.
Best thing is to send an email directly to the developer regarding this, actually if you do a search there is a massive thread relating to GO and their various apps on XDA although you'd probably be better off just emailing the dev.

I have the same problem on Desire, redux2
Any suggestion?
Same here on HTC Desire S. It is really annoying.
Maybe this is the problem:
Since Android 2.3, Google prohibited third party application (i.e. non-system app) to make use of MODIFY_PHONE_STATE permission. One of the consequences is that all 3rd party phone dialer application can no longer clear missed call icon at notification bar. (Even at Android 2.2 or older, we need undocumented API to do so)

Same here with my unrooted HTC Desire HD (Ace). Unfortunately the workaround with NotiGo does only work on rooted phones.
This is a shame for Android...

I'll do what I can to help you out.
Best email program - I only have exp with Gmail & TW email. I like them both
Organize programs - AppZorter
sync music - there are a bunch of software that can do it: Kies, Samsung Media something, Media Monkey. Google it & you'll probably get more results than I listed
here is a list for you buddy on what to remove and not to...

to get the apps sorted better i prefer using a different launcher. Launcher pro is the one i use but any of them will put them in alphabetical. Cant believe samsung dont have an option in touchwiz to do that, seems quite a basic omission.
email i just use the stock one but k9 email is also pretty good.
not sure what you mean by the voice commands, you should just tap the home button twice and the voice control screen comes up
Best email: K9 Mail.

point is the standard everyday user shouldnt have to come to xda and download a modded theme just to get the app drawer showing alphabetical. Its a pretty standard request from everyone and a pretty big omission from samsung.

true and i fully agree with you and the way you sort folders in touchwiz is pretty **** compare to the go launcher..but still i think the update of touchwiz fixes all of that now

Messaging application...?

I'm new to HTC stuff, so i just have a question about this phone. When i'm texting someone, and he/she texts me back, it shows the message with the contact name along with their numbers, highlighted in blue. This happens to some contacts, and those contacts have 2 different numbers (one mobile, one home). Also this happens in the conversation (blue and white post-it bubbles). Is it possible to disable the number from appearing every message?
hmm.. not sure..
I use Handcent messaging apk
try it out

Apps are the reason to have a smart phone. It's best not to assume that the manufacturer provided the best applications with the phone. Maybe so - maybe not. Best to do some research, try different things, and decide for yourself. You know what you like better than anyone else.

No Number blacklist feature built in the stock software?

I was wondering if a missing a function to add numbers to a Black list etc or if I need to get a 3rd party app instead.
Thanks!

Think you need third party. It's expensive but the Norton mobile stuff comes with a very effective call management bit, as well as cloud based password manager.
And no, I don't work for them but do enjoy their shizzle, recommend to anyone.

You can blacklist using the stock UI without a third-party app - it just isn't as intuitive as TouchWiz.
If you go in to edit a contact and scroll down to the bottom - there's an option that says something like 'send calls to voicemail.
For texting you will need a third-party app.

i'm new to this phone and seems like i can't find a blacklist feature in the stock rom as well
i was always spoiled by my note 2's massive developer support and abundance of aftermarket roms... blocking calls were non-issue

that's quite an unelegant way to go at this problem... i'd have to add telemarketer's to my contact list just to block them LOL
i'm going to try some 3rd party app... there seems to be many of them on Google Play...

Replacing stock messaging app?

Hello all!
Since I have a Samsung (Galaxy Core Prime G360V to be specific), I have to suffer from Samsung's crappy stock messaging app, ugly yellow/orange color and all. My desperation to replace this app led me to this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-cm-app-installer-t2959922 and the CM App Installer. After playing with the CM messaging app on my sister's phone I have fallen in love with its level of customization and UI in general.
However, it has not been easy to install. For one, the APK wants to install as an update to the stock messenger. Obviously this "update" does not work and I am forced to find another way to use this texting app.
So my question is: How do I install a different messaging app and replace my stock one? Or maybe: How do I install an update APK as a different app entirely?
Thanks for reading, and I would appreciate any input from noobs and the experienced alike

You should be able to to use the Cyanogenmod App Installer to install the messaging app you want selecting the non-root install option. Then you can go into into settings, then find your old messaging app and select clear defaults then when you run the CM messaging app it should ask you if you want to set that as default so select the CM messaging app and always. If the CM messaging app doesn't work I would recommend taking a look at this article here that feature some great messaging apps. If you need any more help just let me know happy to help .

Sounds like a logical solution, but the thing is I can't install the app because it is the same package as the one I currently use (com.android.mms). If I knew how to change the app package name then maybe your suggestions would work. Maybe com.cyanogen.mms?

Sorry for the delayed reply, I would recommend just installing a different messaging app that way it doesn't have the same package name. A lot of newer messaging apps will have very similar features to what you are looking for. Then once it's installed go into settings find old messaging app, clear defaults, start the new messaging app and it should prompt you to always use that as default.

Yes, I am now using Google Messenger. The only problem I really have is that I have to toggle my mobile data to send/receive MMS. The stock messenger never had that problem. I'm going to stick with Google for a while and if the MMS thing becomes a bigger problem I will probably switch back to stock for consistency. I'm getting the Moto G5 Plus soon so it won't matter in a few months anyway
