Is nobody interested in this phone? - Motorola Droid X2

It seems that the forums are all so quite and there is no android development going on. Is there just no interest for this phone? If that's the case I nay go swap it for a thunderbolt.
Sent from my DROID X2

There is alot of interest I'm sure, just waiting for an unlocked bootloader so we can put custom recoveries on the phone, then we will be able to flash roms etc. For now we have root, but be careful you dont brick....there is no coming back

The fact that the original DX is getting CM on it shows that there's interest, it's just that working with newer Motorola phones is not easy by all accounts. There are folks who are trying, but I think it'll be a little while before we see the results. In the meantime, I've tried the Thunderbolt and it was just too much of a mess for me so I'll be patient.

What makes the Atrix bootloader special?

Forgive me for not fully understanding what it involves to crack a bootloader...but didn't the Droid 2 and the Droid X both have locked bootloaders/efuses...and they both have custom ROMs and kernals out right?
What makes the Atrix so different?

There is a thread in the development section that covers this.
As I have read in the forums thus far, my understanding is that a locked bootload only needs the right key to unlock it and then we can have kernels. Either way we can have custom roms. There is in fact a "rom" available, but I think the dev left for the time being. It's just a matter of time before we get more devs, or an unlock key. Hell with an unlock key I'll put out my own roms/themes, but until them I am not messing with this phone.

The rom that we have right now is just a deodexed version of the stock rom with a reboot feature added to it. The dev that created it hasnt left, hes still working hard on getting stuff out. I believe hes on his 3rd bricked phone if I counted the ones hes mentioned thus far correctly.
As far as the bootloader... they are all somewhat different between different phones, it just takes time to figure out the loopholes and to figure out keys.

DG has indeed moved on from the atrix. He will be sticking around a little bit longer it seems. Check the adeo thread for proof =/

He's moving on. He said he has a few more surprises for us though. Just wish we had more devs willing to work on the Atrix. There are so many that come here just to tell us not to bother and it's impossible.
Give it time im sure there will be more devs trying too crack this and the device has ony been out for like 2weeks.
It has so much potential too be forgotten like with the docks and so which i have the laptop dock and its really neat and imagine all kind of stuff it can do when this finally gets cracked.
Didn't the droids had a locked boot loader? from what i read it did and when i go in there forums there's roms for it.
It definitely sucks to see DG go... can't say I've had past experiences with his work but it seems like most who have, really enjoyed it. I really hope development for this platform doesn't fall flat. I know it's too early to determine that, but I'd like to see a lot get opened up.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the bootloader unlocked for this device... as fluid as usb host works on it, I think it's going to be a great dev device... I just wish I reach in and load a custom kernel.

[Q] I'm confused about this Razr...

I am no expert, I simply enjoy rooting pretty much everything I have relating to technology. Now, the Razr is an amazing phone, and BECAUSE its an amazing phone, I decided NOT to root it until a way to Unbrick became available. Well, that day came (A droidrzr dot come link), so of course, I rooted my Razr and installed the only rom I saw available for the VZW version. Here's the dilemma:
I am in no way making demands or trying to offend anyone, I simply have a question: Are there more ROMS coming out for the RAZR? I have seen all of the mods in these forums, I just have no need for them. I ask because the day my Evo 3D became 'rootable', about 4 or 5 ROMS rolled out right pretty much within hours, and while we DO have a custom ROM for the RAZR, umm...that's it. I appreciate the ROM, I have it installed, but supposedly the big deal was that there was no way to recover from an unbricked RAZR, and now there is, yet there's really no activity in the DEV section aside from people arguing about the locked bootloader.
Maybe I'm just ignorant and the fastboot files don't provide any help at all. I'll attribute that to what I said at the beginning, that I'm not an expert. I was just hoping someone could clarify because I literally check this forum twice a day hoping to see [ROM] at the beginning of a post and [CDMA] right next to it.
Thank you beforehand for any help or clarification!

easy answer
there's no real need of completely modded roms, and roms wich went out, are more optimization roms...
and... ics is on the way, think is a little useless, start thinking of making entire projects on gingerbread, knowing in a month we are going on a really different android version
True, true...but wasn't the ICS source/code already released? Or does it depend from device to device?

Sorry noob post.

Hi all, just a quick intro. I am new to the Verizon/ Droid scene. I am picking up the Droid Razr today. I am coming from Sprint with an Evo. I have to say I am nervous about losing sense, but I am excited for how fast the Razr is going to seem. I know that even overclocked, my phone would not be able to hang with the speed of the new phone.
I have read a bit, but just wanted to get a round about for rooting (easiet way), which ROM's seem to be the most popular, kernel options? I noticed as of right now there is no ICS, but are there solid builds being played with right now?
I am sure there is plenty I am missing, but just wanted to say hi.
I appologize about the questions, but very little free time to do a lot of reading thus far.
Thanks in advance
Welcome to XDA.
First off, the RAZR has a locked bootloader. You can't flash kernels, only ROMS. There's a fairly large movement out there to get Moto/VZW to unlock our bootloaders but no results yet.
As for rooting, there are plenty of resources out there for 1-click rooting. So rooting isn't an issue, just make sure you get the right root program for your version.
As for ROMS, DroidTheory has some pretty nice ROMS and most are very stable.
Most of this information is in the forum, you just have to search for it.
Hope this helps!

Yes it does help, thanks. I will be doing plenty of reading for sure. Just a different beast really. Just strange seeing all the different developers on this side. Just because, like I said, came from sprint/HTC land.

Well, welcome to the party. It's a whole new world. The RAZR is an incredible phone!

That site has been extremely useful for me. I don't know if I am allowed to link so I made that odd thing there.
To demonstrate how useful it is I managed to get stuck on boot, search up a method for unbricking, enact the method, have the most terrified bathroom break of the new year and go back to stock all in under 24 minutes.
Absolutely none of that was an exaggeration.
So it took a bit. But at this time tomorrow I will finally be a Droid owner.

[Q] Benefits of rooting

The greatest feature of the AOS is that we are able to root our phones thanks to some very helpful people. I’ve temp rooted my Rezound because I am waiting on the official Android 4.0 from Verizon. But we’re in the middle of the 2nd quarter and I’m starting to get impatient. I have the Eris, and I can easily install ROMs on it. I also have the Driod 2 which is a pain to install ROMs. For those who have rooted their phones and place ICS on their phone, are you worried about something going wrong with the phone and not being able to return it? Should I sack up and root it? Or would you recommend that I remain on the sidelines until its safe?
ICS Rom .:. Flash. One. Now.

(We're still in Q1 unitl March 31st! And I'm running an ICS rom, alternating between Ineffabilis-Deus v1.02 and Senseless 4.0.3 v1.0.) Well first off, the official ICS from Verizon looks to be a long ways away, so if you want ICS now, I'd definitely flash an ICS rom. And no, I'm not worried at all about something malfunctioning with my phone and not being able to return it. You can almost always return to stock, so as long as you can do that, you're safe. And besides, most of the Verizon reps have no idea what an unlocked bootloader is/does, let alone know how to check for one. So you should be able to return your beast (Rezound) to Verizon if something goes wrong with it. There's my two cents.
Final Verdict: Flash an ICS rom. Whether it's Senseless or has Sense 3.6, that's up to you.
Hope I helped!
Waiting until probably May or so is not an option especially when we have such nice ROMs coming out now.
I'm running Joel's ICS Sense ROM and it's one of the nicely polished ROMs I've ever used.
I also used the Desense tool to get Nova Launcher so it looks a little bit like ICS and I gotta say, I'm extremely happy where I'm at right now. Go for it.
I say go for it too and I'm not even running ICS yet.
I am waiting for my favorite themes etc to become available for ICS before switching and I'm in no hurry anyway as I absolutely LOVE the ROM I am currently running and don't really care about ICS.
I use a couple nexus phones at work and I see no real advantage whatever to ICS.
If you root your phone it will start to fall apart. All of the ROMs will then steal your personal information and make it difficult to go to the bathroom. Then there's the issue with hand warts that people are getting with these ICS ROMs that have come out.
Do it. Stop questioning it. It's worth it.

The devs have done a great job, I used to have a DroidX and never really got into rooting and so forth, with this Rezound I told myself I would dive in head first and I am glad I did, everyone here at XDA, devs and members are very helpful and i learned everything i needed to know to learn everything from unlocking and rooting to flashing roms, and it is a breeze for the most part, always gonna be some bumps in the road, but i would DEFINITELY GO FOR IT

[Q] Owner of RAZR, What's with these devices ?

Hello Xda,
I'm a new owner of a european XT910.
Former owner of a Nexus S.
What's with these Motorolas ? Everything seems very confusing...
1.Locked bootloader...
2.Specific fastboot needed to flash specific roms ?
3.What about recovery mode ? Backup's not working, storage mounting not working..
I will soon post a screenshot of my system's info.
I really think there should be a FAQ thread discussing all matters from CDMA-GSM differences, to different fastboots the phones are shipped with and how to get started on software modification on these babies.
Surely that's a noobie question but if the noobs can't have it, then the world can't have it.
Millions are in the forum but few are willing to get further in developing.
Lets help someone (like me) who wants to understand the pyramid of modding and developing on this phone e.g.
Hi new guy. It's very simple. All of the information can be found on the forums, as well as using google. If you can't be bothered to do a simple search, or read through stuff, then don't root your phone.

And besides, noobs can have the phone. Just don't root your phone, and come crying in the forums when something goes wrong, cause you don't bother reading up beforehand.

Sounds like it would have made more sense to get answers to those questions prior to your purchase.
Great phone, locked down.
Welcome to the forums!
As i already stated, the droid razr is a great phone but is locked down with motos iron fist.
I purchased at launch in canada and was happy... was happy. Untill i started to see the news of the locked bootloader and other issues. Ive been a fan of moto phones since my first v3x and was pleasntly surprised to see an update to the line.
Like was said earlier, its been 6 months since launch and you probably should have done the research, but not everyone has the insight to do deep research about their next phone beyond the physical specs.
That said, moto has locked this thing down and unless you really need more than root its a whole different horse to ride when compared to others like htc, lg and samsung.
Moto basically marketed this thing as a business phone for the fashion crowd. And it is. A slim and fast, solidly built android powered guchi handbag. Not much more.
This is a disappointment. And one we are going to have to live with or find a device that's more friendly to the feint of heart.

Now that I disagree with. A locked bootloader is undesirable, admittedly, but there's still tons of things you can do with the Razr. Custom ROMs? Check. Custom governor? Check. Custom I/O scheduler? Check. Overclock/underclock/undervolt? Check. I have all the above on my Razr. (Except for the governor, doesn't seem to work on Gummy)
Don't get me wrong. I wish Moto would unlock our bootloaders as well, but ultimately, what we are suffering from is a lack of developers. Kholk, kejar, J.Y.Daddy are doing their best, but how many things can they push out? Especially since the Razr isn't their dedicated phone.
The Razr is a good phone, don't let one single locked bootloader ruin the whole package. Although honestly, given the chance to change phones, I would (who wouldn't want the HTC One X?). But really, there are tons of things you can do with your phone as it is.
Most people here misunderstood me.
Asking nooby questions does not make one a noob.
I've been a computer programmer for years and I would like to contribute in the RAZR development, though I do not know how to start cause I was only mid-to-advanced user of mobile phones.
All I needed is someone to show me the way on this motorola. I'm not trying to make myself tiring to you though most people here should learn to show some respect and not snub people who ask.
As for "Searching" the forums, since the RAZR development is going slow, forum threads are also cruising at a low speed. So do not blame me for asking something that is not very clear to most "common" RAZR users and owners.
Friendly as hell.

Spectral thanks for joining this conversation. I've done a lot of research and already know that custom roms, governors and over/underclocking is possible.
Though it seems that device software differs from one phone to the other and I can't make up the differences. Maybe someone should start a thread regarding different Fastboots and to which devices they are installed to for example.
hi OP,
have u seen the Development forum? not the General forum.
there are tons of info to answer ur questions (sorry im not as capable) there. so u dont even need to search. just see the titles.
