[3D] LG Optimus 3D vs HTC EVO 3D - HTC EVO 3D

[3D] LG Optimus 3D vs HTC EVO 3D
- which is gona be better in performance?
- Optimus will use 512mb ram (DDR?) where EVO will be with 1gb, is that huge difference?
- BATTERY LIFE, yeah this question is killing everyone on sight.
P.S. any questions about both phones, drop reply below.

First! Evo has been reviewed as a better all around phone. But LG said to have a better build feel.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App

Hands down on the Evo. Also RAM will make all the difference in the world.

The Optimus 3D is the stronger performer:
1/3 less pixels and OMAP 4430 with 512mb for each cpu core
so it will score higher in benchmarks. But from a software and development standpoint the EVO 3D wins (provided the bootloader in un-encrypted as promised).

Optimus ships with Froyo, fail

what about 3D movies, will there be possibility to view them on those phones or this it only shows your taking pics/clips (becouse of format?) ?

Each time I would like to see a 3D movie, I will have to convert into acceptable format for phone, or I can just buy a 3D movie and stright drop into sdcard and play on phone?
BTW: I'v heard that Optimus 3D has that 'in-box 3d' feeling, rather seeing things coming out, is it same for EVO 3D too?

Edit: sorry for doublepost.

more and more info about blurried pixels, is that right with HTC Evo 3D or it's just buggy phones or it's the whole bundle what's been sold so far?

I said it from the start, LG will push for content more than HTC
the LG comes with 3 3D games and a voucher for 4 more free, there's the 3D menu and gallery, a store with apps like Wikitude 3D plus in Q3 they are releasing software that "converts" 2D photos and videos on the fly to 3D on the phone (though I doubt that it will be any good!)

also heard EVO 3D have problem with display, since most of apps dont support their resolution and some of phones seems to be with faulty camera, blurry, anyone confirm?

Optimus comes with 3 3D games, a 3D story and a link to 4 more 3D games for 99p each, it also plays 3D MKV's

Fair enough about the link - it just showed the Sprint site for me. Correct about GSM/UMTS/HSPA, but I think what is happening is that the Evo name is being "exported" now to non-Sprint carriers, including European ones - by all accounts, there's one in testing that has 900/1700MHz bands, so maybe there's hope? I'd expect a 2100MHz phone to be in the mix somewhere...

[Q] A question about Family Plans Re: Evo 3D

Ok, so I added my mom and transformed my single line 69.99 plan into a 129.99 Family Plan on May 9. I got her one of them Sanyo Vero phones (shes 65 and just want to make/receive calls). I currently have my Evo 4G, and I am fairly interested on one of those Evo 3D phones. So I am thinking that if the Evo 3D comes out before the 8th (and thus on my 30 day- return window for my mom's phone), can I go to the store and switch the Vero for an Evo 3D, and then switch the Evo 3D's number to my phone and the old Evo to my moms phone number?
I did bought my moms phone in Radio Shack, so if this is even possible, can I go to that same Radio Shack and do this or do I have to go to the Sprint store?

Im kinda confused about what you are exactly asking but
I take it you just bought your moms phone and are now wanting to return it within the 30 days for a evo 3d then switch the numbers from your evo to ur moms vero aka that u switched for the evo 3d
Well im from kentucky and last year i was wondering something like this i bought the hero and evo from the radio shack
Your answer: yes you have 30 days to return the phone vero that u bought and you can get the evo 3d you would just have to pay the price difference if there is one
Then when you get home just call 1800 sprint customer service and tell them you wanna switch numbers because your mom likes the evo better and u like the evo 3d better and they can just swap the numbers right over
Ps sorry for so much writing

Decent Unbiased Revew from Mobile Tech Review

I just watched the Mobile Tech Review from Lisa and I thought you she did a really nice job. Sorry I don't have the link. She did a write up as well but I haven't read through that. One of the things she said is that call quality was one of the best she's tried on Sprint. I know a lot of people were concerned with that. She also said the battery wasn't great but you could probably make it through the day on 3G and maybe get a half day with 4G turned on. Check out the video and let me know what you guys think.
From the article
No doubt, the HTC EVO 3D is one of the most anticipated Android smartphones for 2011. The HTC EVO 4G is a hard act to follow, and the EVO 3D mostly lives up to the challenge. I'm sure you've already read some reviews that hate on the 3D feature, and I can tell you I'm not in love with it either. But if you at worst choose to ignore 3D, then the EVO 3D is one heck of a phone.
It has a dual core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon CPU just like the lovely HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile, a gig of RAM, WiMAX 4G and a decent 4.3", 800 x 480 pixel capacitive touch screen. Build quality is solid and we love the rubbery back. The HTC EVO 3D is in many ways the HTC Sensation for Sprint with 3D thrown into the mix.
Call quality is tops and reception on 3G EV-DO Rev. A is above average, while 4G reception is average (good outdoors, terrible indoors). We're not fans of WiMAX 4G and find LTE much faster and 4G HSPA+ much easier on battery life, but if you're a Sprint customer, it's all you've got. And in some metro areas, WiMAX speeds are actually decent. Battery life? EVO 4G owners, you know the drill-- get a spare battery pronto.
Here's our HTC EVO 3D video review. As per usual, the full review will follow in a few more days after we've had time to sufficiently torture-test the phone.

Engadget's hatred of the EVO 3D

http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/15/motorola-photon-4g-review/#disqus_thread
So Engadget recently reviewed the Photon 4G and they claim its the greatest smartphone ever on Sprint. The reviewer, Myriam Joire, was the same as the one who reviewed the Evo 3D. As you can see the Photon 4g review is filled with attacks against the Evo 3D.
So far all I have learned is that Myriam Joire is a blithering moron, not sure how this man became a reviewer to begin with. The whole Evo bashing thing doesn't seem to make any sense to me. Engadget claims that the Evo 3D is a huge gimmick and very "disappointing". The review says the photon records smooth 720p video, when you look at the video you can see its filled with massive frame rate drops and the quality looks no better than the Evo's video. The screen has oversaturated colors and is very pixelated but Engadget claims the display is stunning. The Photon feels plasticy and cheap in the hand compared to the Evo.
The Tegra 2 is inferior to the MSM8660 and even Engadget admits the Evo 3D is faster to use. Sense also murders Motorola BS UI. The photon also does not have support for the 800 Mhz ESMR band which the Evo does have, this will be a huge deal by the end of the year when Sprint finally rolls out service on that. The 3D feature the Evo has is just a bonus feature.
So when you consider all of these things, what exactly makes the Evo a gimmicky disappointment and the Photon a wonder of the world?
Just seems to me like most of these cretin reviewers are hell bent on bashing the "useless 3d gimmick" and completely dismiss the rest of the phones features.
F*cking idiots.
The part that is interesting is that the same author, Miriam, did the Evo 3D article and from what I remember about it, the only gripe was that the camera was mounted near flush so it made it possible to scratch the glass covering the lenses. Other than that I thought it was a pretty positive article about the Evo 3D. I was a little shocked to read this article too.
Could you point me to a site that explains the 800 band and what that will mean for us EVO users later on? Sounds interesting.
I also agree that he is an idiot. Every review has the EVO as a much better phone. I told myself I will always buy HTC but with the new buyout I'm not sure now. LOL but that's besides the point. EVO all the way!
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I call Engadget the Apple Blog. They see Apple as the GOD of all technology and that everything else doesn't compete.
Well it seems that Engadget is just determined to pass the entire phone off as a gimmick and a disappointment. I'm not sure what they were expecting this phone to do, cure cancer? eradicate poverty?
The expectations seem very unrealistic.
I like that the Photon is a global phone though. That's a great feature.

"The Federal Communications Commission has approved the previously announced HTC EVO 3D for the Sprint network with an interesting and unannounced spec. The FCC has confirmed that the EVO 3D supports 800MHz CDMA in the ESMR band. The ESMR 800MHz band is what Sprint uses for its iDEN network. Sprint eventually plans to transition the ESMR band from iDEN to CDMA as part of its expansive network improvement initiative. Once that transition is complete and Sprint ports its voice services to the ESMR spectrum, the HTC EVO 3D will be able to make use of it. Sprint's main CDMA network operates in the 1900MHz PCS band.
"
http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/article.php?a=8261
Basically we will have better coverage and much better signal indoors as the 800Mhz ESMR band will allow for better building penetration. I believe the EVO 3D was the first sprint phone to support this. The Photon does not.

Agreed but for most of us, we rarely leave the country so it isn't something we would use often.
The Photon has the ability to handle many international networks but ironically can't handle the 800 Mhz ESMR band which will impact many more sprint users than the lack of GSM support on the EVO.
The Photon has better connectivity abroad and the Evo has better connectivity back home, I think for most of us the latter matters more.
oh, shifting 2G voice service to lower bands... that's great for voice, but, I rarely have any voice issues--regardless of what the meter-bar says. It's the 3G/4G service I would love transitioned lower, but, I'll take what I can get...
why dont people realize that the 3d is a ****ing add on! if you dont like it, ignore it! The phone kicks major ass even when you forget it does 3d!!! And there is absolutely no UI that is more beautiful than sense! Its better than the gay iphone too!

Yes he does seem to speak on the evo 3d in a negative light..so I.thought maybe i made the wrong choice and i went to the sprint store to take a look at the photon..anyways it is no competition for the e3d..the screen regardless of.its defenders say is pixelated and I was able to see individual pixels without trying to look for them..it seems like the evo got knocked for the 3d d features..I don't understand how a.reviewer can deduct points bc of an added feature..if he didn't like it then just don't add any.I'm happy I went and took a look at the photon bc it made me appreciate my phone more..even the UI was laggy on the photon..don't let these reviews get too you..the only way to make a good decision for you is to actually go and play with the products you are deciding between.
The pillars of Apple's empire...to include mobile technological & UI innovation... is crumbling.
They came along and created a product that jump-started a stagnant market. This I am thankful for. However now, Apple's ridiculous patent lawsuits, gestapo scare tactics and dwindling fan base are signs of a shift in direction...
I played with the Photon at the store. Not a bad phone... but it is no EVO 3D.
As far as Motorola goes... doesn't Google now own the Motorola mobile division?
Why do yall get so uptight over this stuff? Not everyone is going to like the phone, it is what it is.

The EVO View 4G on "The Voice"

Did you see The Voice last night?
Carson Daly was flashing a EVO View 4G from Sprint. Isn't it a strange move from Sprint and/or HTC to be still promoting such an old tablet?
Strangely, the Sprint logo was sticked all over the HTC one. And also, it's running Gingerbread.
I haven't watched this season, but I did see it on there last season. Maybe they'll debut a newer version on there soon?
Sent from my Clean Rom'd HTC Flyer using XDA Premium.
That does seem weird. I thought Sprint pulled them from shelves and HTC abandoned them-

They were promoting it everywhere on bet music awards few months ago . I thought the same thing when i saw it.
Kind of stupid how HTC sprint allows promotion on a discontinued device. With all this promoting its like taunting us owners about having a crippled honeycomb device that they wont fix. If its discontinued why promote it. Thats like promoting an hp touchpad months after the fireasale . Its irrelevant in todays society.
You'd be surprised, the Touchpad was still promoted even after HP's decision to cancel it, on Gossip Girl, for at least a couple of episodes, from what I recall.
Eitherway, Sprint's decision to promote the Evo View 4G is awkward because:
1. The device is discontinued. It's been discontinued for almost 6 months now!
2. The WiMax technology is not what Sprint is all about these days. Sure, they did not dump it entirely, but they won't be investing in it either. So why promote it?
Maybe Carson really likes it. Jokes aside, maybe HTC has a contract with them. And since HTC doesn't have another tablet, they'll do with the Gingerbread-running Evo View 4G.

[Q] Did I Make The Wrong Choice?

So this is what happened. I work for Sprint and my manager hooked me up with an early Christmas gift. I had the EVO 3D and there was a time with Sprint where if you had a 3D and it had a malfunction they would replace it for you for free via the Exchange program for a EVO 4G LTE because there was a shortage of EVO 3D's. So he did that for me and bam I had an EVO 4G LTE. When the update came out I downloaded it excitedly and immediately after the download my phone has been frozen up. It will work temporarily if I do a simpull and then freeze again shortly after. I have done hard resets and cache wipes and I booted into the boatloader and reflashed the stock RUU (The PJIMG whatever it is) and it still does not work so I had my technician exchange it for me again and she offered me an S III instead via the exchange but I told her I still wanted an EVO...
I've been with HTC since the HTC Hero and always loved it. Did I make a bad choice though? Should I have instead gone with the S III? What do yall think?
TL;DR I had some problems with JB and have to have my phone exchanged and my technician offered me an S3 but I told her I want an EVO again did I make a bad decision.
I don't think you made a bad decision. You obviously prefer ht over Samsung. The evo and the s3 Have pretty similar specs. As long as you don't start having issues with the new evo, you made the right decision.
Yeah I just guess now my tech has got me worried that this new phone is gonna be messed up too. But TBH I think that the issue didn't sit so much with the software itself but the fact that the phone was a refurbished device and obviously had issues before.
But I loved my new EVO in the short time I had it. I just see some people here are so adamant about wanting to swap their EVO's for the S3 by any means.
i've been with htc since the touch pro, then OG Evo, now EVO LTE... I really like the EVO LTE, It's fast and handles pretty much anything I throw at it.... the few bugs it has are just really annoying... I'm stock with latest OTA at the moment. The new OTA made LTE connectivity better, but it also introduced a few new bugs... the hardware is great, i'm just not crazy with the stock software...
If I could do it all over again, I probably would have tried the S3 instead of the EVO.... I had no idea the S3 would become as popular as it has...

Sprint never offered the LTE for a malfunctioning 3D. If they did then I wouldn't have had to pay for mine after the 8th 3D stopped working and all they would offer me is an OG Evo or some garbage Samsung. This is one reason Sprint customer service is pure JUNK. The lies, the constant changes in policy, the rudeness, and favoritism. You liked the hero? The worst smartphone ever made? I almost got a flipphone after my experience with the 'hero.' Anyway, I would've went with the S3. Only because I'm sick of HTC and Sense.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
I agree about the exchange. Never is a device replaced that way. If they do you are lucky I guess. Evo got replaced with 3d or photon because with that flagship they really didn't have anything on the same level at the time. 3ds and Photons are normally switched for each other and if your lucky they will give the s2 or Galaxy Nexus. What I'm trying to say is no way does a normal customer off the street walk in with a 3d and exchange for a LTE. There are to many lower end devices with its specs to replace it with. You Boss really did bless you for Christmas! The onley other way I can figure is many Sprint has an exchange agreement with HTC.

If I could do it all over again, I probably would have tried the S3 instead of the EVO.... I had no idea the S3 would become as popular as it has...

So you're saying you would have gotten the SIII if you knew it would be so popular. what other people buy is what informs your preference? I really hope that's not what you're saying, because that's really sad and misguided, and kind of, well.... I just won't say.

No you didn't make the wrong decision. Stick with the Evo 4G LTE. Remember YOU messed the phone up by whatever method you performed upgrading to JellyBean. Yes it has a few issues but what phone doesn't. My daughter has the SIII and I got to play around with it for a few hours. Im sorry but I still like the Evo better.
PS How did you not know the SIII was gonna be so popular? It was and still is the most widely advertised phone out there. And also you can't go by what is popular, just because it is popular doesn't make it a good phone by all means.

Thanks for the snide comment. I'm sorry I didnt explain my point well enough. When you have two android phones that are almost identical spec-wise (EVO LTE & SIII) ... I'm going to want the one with a larger user base.... because generally speaking more users means more development for the device... since I do plan on rooting my phone eventually. If I am incorrect by stating this, then I apologize.
When I bought the EVO LTE launch day I compared it to the SIII and since they were so close spec-wise, I went with HTC because of my good past experience with HTC phones.

Someone sounds angry. And it wasn't a formal policy. Just something that could be done depending on the situation and if the evo 3d was in stock at the time of your issue. As well as if you were pleasant to the rep or a jerk...

Also the more popular device gets more accessories.
But i still like the Evo a lot.

So no offense to all of you but you're basically all wrong.... YES in November they did have that offer at our store because of an issue with the EVO 3D's and replacing them so they offered something comparable and since they can't go back to the first EVO they sent out an EVO 4G LTE to me. That's how I got my phone and that's how my manager got one as well. So it was a legitimate program. I work for Sprint okay so don't try to big league me here bro I think I know what I'm talking about.
And I have always been stock so my phone wasn't messed up by my own tweaking with it. I simply downloaded the OTA update on the 13th and it killed my phone. I wouldn't say that's my fault. But regardless the replacement is on its way so stop hating.
Stop turning my topic into self-loathing because you're not happy with the choices you made in your life...

Not to gloat - just setting the record straight here. My local repair center exchanged my 3D for a LTE. I know it's not common, but it happens.
Just sayen.
I think you have the better phone. I much prefer the HTC build and the super lcd2 to the amoled screen on the Sammy.

To the people saying that phones are never replaced with greater phones. I had my og evo and towards the eol of the phone they started replacing the phones for free for a 3d. No contract extension or anything. See mah thread here
I've had my Mogul replaced with an HTC Touch & my Touch for a Touch Diamond.
Even way back when, it was possible. My experience each time, was in-store

Well I'm glad I have people here who agree with me and who also had pleasant replacement experiences. But hey I got my new EVO in and it's working great no issues so far I updated to JB at the store to make sure. ALL ACES HERE!!
People say the s3 is better because it has sold more more units. I dont get this because a evo lte is only on sprint, so of course it hasnt sold as many units as a phone on every carrier. Screen, build quality, and sense keeps the evo in my hands.
