[Q] can screen resolution be changed to make text and objects larger - HTC EVO 3D

There is 1 indisputable fact; the text is significantly smaller when viewing everything. I believe it is not a result of the screen size nor aspect ratio. I think it is screen resolution just like when you change your computer monitor to a higher resolution everything gets smaller.
Fortunately I can easily read everything on my original EVO 4G. For my aging eyes the text size on the EVO 3D is just below my threshold of being able to read.
For me and others over 40 who choose to not wear glasses (to avoid the weakening of eye muscle focusing) the larger text size on the original 4G is pleasant and comfortable to view.
Unfortunately for us unless there is a setting now or in the near future to change the resolution, HTC ... Sense ... and Sprint fans like myself will just have to wait a little longer for a new and equally powerful HTC offering that is as easy to view as our original htc EVO 4G.
Perhaps a Sprint htc Sensation yet I have yet to see the text resolution on the tmo htc Sensation. Now that I think about it, the text resolution on the htc Sensation may very well be the same as the 3D.

You might try LCD Density changer. It's $.99 in the market. There's also a free one, but it requires root. If you buy the first one, please report back. Tia.

only lcd density changer i found required root

You could use ADW ex to resize icons and text size but you would have to give the carousel and sense Widgets

Will the Evo 3D work in portrait and landscape?

The way I understand how those screens work, I don't see how it would be possible for the screen to have a 3D effect in portrait AND landscape. And if it doesn't, that could be a deal breaker. Like you'd want the interface 3D effects, but you'd also want to be able to watch 3D videos in landscape.
Anyone know? I can't find any info on it or any video or anything.
While I don't think anyone can provide official answers at this point in time, I would assume they would not make it so that you had to watch YouTube 3D in portrait mode, as everyone knows how ridiculous that is.
Also, see:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSuD45mRl_o&feature=channel_video_title
It shows a video by HTC of the HTC EVO 3D, and it shows a movie being played in landscape, while the whole premise of the video is to showcase 3D abilities of the device, saying, specifically, before the portion of a movie clip in landscape, "3D movies in a stunning qHD display."
Thank god a new thread was started for this extremely specific question. I doubt it could have been asked in the 47 other EVO 3D threads.

Maybe anything that has the 3D effect will be forced to landscape (hypothesis)
If it's like any of the other glass-less 3D screens (LG Optimus 2X, Nintendo 3DS, 3D photo frames, etc...) it'll only work in 1 orientation. In order to work in 2 orientations, it'll need 2 parallax layers (instead of 1), or some other technology, and I don't think it's cost effective yet to do so.
If it will work horizontally what is stopping them from making it work vertically?

I posted this idea in the suggestion sub-forum and no one has replied to it yet.
What I was wondering about is. Well, ok, the phone takes 3D still pictures and video. I take it that you can view these 3D stills on your phone and maybe a 3D TV?? What about the video? Again viewable on a 3DTV?? What about on your pc monitor? I guess printing hard copies is out huh? So, its kinda like a novelty and maybe gamer thing??? The only thing I would probably like is if the GUI itself is 3D. Thats what I'm looking at the most anyway.

yes, yes, yes, yes, you can, how do you figure, ok
Considering the cameras are positioned in landscape, i'm guessing it only works in landscape.

the cam is in landscape.. so we know it will work that way.
CTIA has demos that are in portrait.. so we know it works that way too.
what else???
great point dan.
Landscape optimal, but I'm sure portrait won't be left out.

As far as I understand it, these screens work like printed holograms. Your left and right eye are actually seeing different sets of pixels. So the screen is divided into two vertically-interlaced screens (which explains the poor viewing angle). If you turned such a screen on its side, the pixel rows would no longer be vertically interlaced but horizontally interlaced and your eyes would not be seeing the different screens and you would have no 3D effect.
From videos of the device it seems clear that it DOES work in both portrait and landscape, so I'm pretty interested in learning how they're pulling it off.

Would you recomend the evo 3d ?

I am starting sprint service an i am wondering what phone i should get i have already had the evo an epic an i liked the evo more besides the screen
Now with all the problems with the evo 3d should i get it or maybe the nesux because i didnt really care about 3d its just a battery drannner
So what do you all think?
you will prob get hw003.. if we are to ref the evo 4g .. hw003 had most bugs worked out.
and yes. i would recommend it. i am not looking back at my evo4g one bit. love this phone.
Thanks i really love the feel an look of this phone i just want to make sure its not a over advertised cheap device but i plan on gettin it around the 4th of next month i was wanting to wait a couple of shippments to make sure i get a device that has no problems i loved my evo and i hope to love this phone just as much
once you go Evo you never go back!lol.naw but on a serious note this phone is just like OG evo bigger cooler brother with a few trricks up his sleeve.
The 3d is better than the HERO.
IF you do get it, get a pair of $ .99 reading glasses.
The preceding is the reason that companies "BUY" engineering: so they have products which are downgraded (dpi/pixels p i ?) and features which are legacy to the original specs (1024 dpi).
BTW if the ceo of htc uses the evo 3d for email: .... I hope he has reading glasses. LMFAO #shortsighted
Why do u need reading glasses
Pull the trigger on the Evo 3D worth the updgrade from the 4G, it's faster and Sense runs great. I agree the whole 3D thing is a fad and almost useless on this phone but after seeing it the geek in me was impressed...I've had it for less than 24 hours but I am already used to the higher resolution....so far no problems.
i would reccomend it
Yes.

3vo. That is all that needs be said.
I would highly recommended it. Best phone I've owned. Top notch !

Haha what? Reading glasses? I think you are alone with that thought... The EVO 3D has of of the best screen resolutions of all phones out there. Definitely recommended. Also it will have some of the best developer support here at xda if you ever want to go the customizing route.

Yeah, definitely the evo 3d. Run smooth as butter and 3d is amazing, no eyestrain here as long as the content was well made (looking at you, Spidey...) The Green Hornet looks flawless in 3D

Hi 'leggs,' here's why. The default font size, especially in messaging and mail, is just too small for all but 'young eyes!' Sprint forgot many of us paid premium dollar for a large screen with LARGE print (fonts) and icons. There is no font adjustment anywhere on the phone. Nore any app in the Market. I spoke with Sprint 2nd tier tech support and they said there is no cure. I have a new EVO 3D and I'm taking it back mainly for this reason. Eye strain sucks. I want my 4G back.........with Gingerbread. Others may love this phone, but mine is buggy......it freezes often, the camera acquired a green tint, and several navigational arrows in texting and url writing are simply gone. I think the 4G came 'out of the box' on its' first day as a much more usable device.

Absolutely love this phone. Even if u don't use 3D this thing is polished.
Phone is phenomenal! Even the 3D is a blast and way better than I thought it would be. You get used to the viewing angles quick, and if you are constantly under the influence of substances, the 3D is 10x better. Just watch Green Hornet high as a kite, then afterwards, envy the speed of the phone in general. I love this handset!
Highly recommended

Yeah, what Paw Paw said! Although I can deal with the smaller font caused by the higher resolution, I do appreciate the issue since my own vision has always been poor. I've been wearing glasses since I was four and trying to focus on something you can't see well is a pain. I wish we had font control. That and root access would make this the perfect phone.
In the UK it's really this or Sensation in HTC terms and in 3D terms the LG Optimistic 3D & is it better than both of them?

Anti-aliasing

I was just comparing my Epic 4G Touch to the iPhone 4S, seeing if the Retina Screen was really even a good selling point for Apple products. I noticed two things: 1) The iPhone uses a different color space than the Epic 4G Touch, but I used Soft Screen Tuner to replicate the Apple RGB (Adobe RGB) Color space. 2) It appears that the iPhone uses anti-aliasing on images to smooth them as well as loads lower resolution images. I found this out by viewing the same 40MP Image file on both phones. However, I don't know for a fact if they do use anti-aliasing.
Now my question is, does Android use anti-aliasing at all? If not, is there a way to enable it? Thanks a lot guys, just curious over here!

That's the screen size. The wall paper size is going to be a little bit wider because of how the background moves when you switch home screens.

That's what I was looking for - way to redeem yourself! Thanks!
I was just thinking about this while finishing off my bottle of Buffalo Trace (Yay, bourbon!). If I'm remembering things correctly from back in the day, the formula for android wallpaper sizes is height by 2*width, so technically the correct size would be 1280x1440. Does that sound right? it matches the size, but I'm not thinking too clearly right now...
Not very many 1440 x1280 wallpapers out there. Majority are just nature.
Hopefully we will get more soon.

Thanks, I do have one question, haven't looked yet but thought I would just ask. How do you use the whole picture instead of the phone trying to crop it? I included a pic for reference. It just seems like it cuts the quality of the picture.
The only resolution size that will use the entire picture without the phone cropping parts of it is 2160x1920.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
you could also flip to vertical
I've been mix-matching finds on wallbase
it's not specifically a phone site...
but the selection is hard to beat and it highlights the resolutions before full viewing!
And thanks for listing the 2160x1920 trick!
That's handy to know~
