[Q] Rooting Samsung Galaxy Player YP-G70 (5.0 wifi) - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Hey everyone, so I tried rooting the device with 4zroot and SuperOneClick both methods don't work. With 4zroot, when push root, the program backs out and force closes. With SuperOneClick, the program got stuck at "Waiting for device..." for over 15 minutes. I also gone and double-check every setting is in the correct order. I tried several times with both methods and failed. So do you have any ideas on getting root access on this device. Thank you.
Firmware version: 2.2.2
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1
Build number: FROYO.DXKF3
Edit1: Rooted successfully!! After trying about every suggestions i could find, i couldn't connect to kies, it said pc suite mode need to be activated, but there's no option for that in the 5.0 wifi, but after internal memory format and factory setting reset, i connect to pc (pc recognize, but kies didn't) i use the SuperOneClick and BAM! it is rooted!!

You use the program that I want to try some of the root. Now I have a problem with kies it invisible to me to me.

Another rooted Galaxy YP-G70

You have to use superoneclick. It's so userfriendly, perfect for a newbye.
Don't worry, let's try !

what's the problem?

Stuck at Step#1
I can't get my Samsung galaxy S 5 wifi rooted either. First I was getting stuck on detecting the device like the OP. Then I installed the latest drivers from the link tapioco2000 provided (Thanks tapioco2000!). Now I can see the device when I type "adb devices". And Super One Click now progresses to Step #1. But now it's stuck there trying to temporary install busybox. I tried the Shell Root method as well. But there I get stuck at step #1 as well.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

got mine rooted! Now what's the best rom to install?!

Need to be careful about the ROMS, you can download the stock ROM currently and it is easy to root. Don't forget to enable USB debugging.
I bricked mine after some root tweaking, and was able to restore using ODIN and the original firmware.

So no one else is stuck with rooting the device? Especially at Step #1 where it can't seem to install busybox?

Make sure you are in USB debug mode and have allow non-market installations checked. See if that helps any.

[Q] Galaxy S II Root

Hey guys. I've just bought my Galaxy S II and I'm wondering about the root issue. Now I'm having the XWKE2 firmware but it says on some post about rooting the phone that you need to download the XWKDD firmware. Now I am wondering first about the warranty, will it void, and secondly will it damage my phone if I am trying to change XWKE2 with XWKDD?
Please help guys. I'm kinda new with android and don't know much.

1 - Yes, rooting will void warranty. But fear not, you can unroot.
2 - No, you won't damage your phone.
Everything you need is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
And there's some good video tutorials by mattj101101 on youtube if you need further help.
Hi,
I've rooted a XWKE2 successfully.
I flashed to "insecure" XWKDD, rooted and then flashed back the original XWKE2.
The XWKDD is only an older version of the firmware which will not "damage" your phone per se (but maybe if something went wrong while the flashing process).
As far as I understand it, it's hard to really brick the phone. Most of the time you are able to flash back a working system.
I'm new to Android, too. I made sure to have every file prepared and read every page of the rooting guide thread in the development section.
Warranty depends on where you live and what you've done to your phone (like overclocking and what have you).
If something's wrong with my phone (god forbid), I simply flash back every thing to samsung stock files and hope service doesn't notice.
I used
Odin3-v1.85.zip
XWKDD_insecure.tar
SuperOneClickv1.9.1-ShortFuse.zip
KE2_original.zip
Have fun & good luck
Thank you
Thanks guys, that was really really helpful.

[Q] x10 mini pro rooted now will not give permission help plz!

1st i am new to rooting (n00b)
yesterday i successfuly rooted my x10 mini pro using superoneclick, xrecovery and installed android 2.3.3,i wasnt totally happy (i was trying to get it working as a wifi hotspot using quicksettings and wifi tether to no aveil and every few hours it would blackscreen or reboot) it also has root explorer, titanium backup, buzybox installed.
today i used xrecovery to go back to 2.1 (luckily i backed up whew!) and was going to give 2.3.5 a try (MiniCM7Pro-v6) it was all fine i was using root explorer to move and delete some music files, and the mount r/w r/o was working. at some point i tried running buzybox and it said 'error-root access not detected' i went into superuser clicked forget and restarted app,no change, superuser will not grant root for any prog,i started root explorer and now i cant change the mount to r/w.i read try rerooting,so i did (with same prog) it said phone was already rooted, i tried rerooting,it all went ok until it done a su test 'test failed'..now im at a total loss as what todo, read alot of threads an tried diff methods including running adb mask controller as guided by thread,it's obviously something ive done but what? cannot get back into xrecovery either, any help much appreciated..sorry for the essay but ive been at it all day! il paste a copy of what superoneclick says when i tried rerooting below. thank you for even reading this

wow! thank you, i didnt think the phone cld be unrooted by se update..but i used pc companion and did a hard reset, it put the same 2.1 back on and left the phone unrooted so was able to use superoneclick again to re-root, so simple in the end, i was over thinking the whole thing, i guess thats why this site is so awesome, just getting a new fresh brain to look at it! ok now onto flashing and finding a good stable rom to load up,any advice? again thankyou!
There are quite many rom to choose from..
For froyo I personally like minicm6 by slade n cyanocomb by d4
For ginger I like minicm7 by paul, but im looking forward to use gingerdx

I have a similar problem. I get the message:
--snipp-----
"Installing su (/system/xbin)... - Step #2
No such user '0:0'
OK 0.02s"
----snap-----
similar to smallz2k, but the su test command finishes sucessfully. But when I check for root access on the phone, there is none. When I tried to unroot via super1click. It couldn't get Android Version nor any other data like device version number etc. Initial test routines.
Then I reset the phone via PC Companion and tried it again with same results.
Where do I go wrong? Any hints? Is my description detailed enough?

You've dug up a thread That's almost a year old. Start another, someone will help.
My best idea is use flashtool to root. That's what I've done for every U20 I've had to root and it's always worked

[Q] Install Streakmod without USB or Root

Hi guys,
Is there a way to root the 406 rom without Fastboot(USB)?
I have a busted PDMI port (bent pin) which Dell refuse to replace. So I'm stuck with wifi and direct transfer to SD card only.
I was running Streakdroid 1.9.1 and managed to install the 406 (recovery406.img) with the 'flash_image' command from a terminal on my phone.
Rebooted in recovery and installed the 406 (update.pkg).
No issues with the update and my baseband is now: GAUSB1A140614-EU
Android Version: 2.3.3
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-perf
Build: 19940
I'm stuck with the next step though...
Is there a way to root so I can run, 'flash_image recovery recoverysm.img'?
or anything else I can do to load the GingerStreak-2.4.4.zip file?
I've tried z4root (1.3.0) and Universal Androot (1.6.2 b5) without success. I tried Gingerbreak too, but after 30 minutes it never completes (most likely because I'm not connected via USB right?)
Any ideas??

i guess u can try this
flash_image requires root, which all custom roms are pre-rooted.
the only correct way to install a custom rec is though fastboot, flash_image works but not generaly supported. I don't believe you can root any rom newer then 360 without using superuser.zip which requires streakmod which means you're completely stuck on your rom
Ah ok, thanks for searching guys I really appreciate it!
The stock 2.3.3 is ok for now I suppose, battery life seems to have dropped quite a bit though.
I'll wait a while before investing in a new port.... perhaps the Gingerbreak man will release a working update for this rom soon
Cheers.
For anyone in Singapore, there is a guy who can replace the PDMI port. Search Facebook:
"SG IRepair
Hi is cost around $90 include installation. Jimmy 81121061"
I'll still keep my fingers crossed for an updated Gingerbreak for now...

try flashing any recovery img file (depending on what rom/pkg are you trying to update) on your streak, do not reboot. just take out the battery right after flashing (DO NOT REBOOT , if you reboot it, it will just go back to your default recovery) and then update your new pkg or zip file .... you're done downgrading/upgrading
you do not need to root your device anyway....
for exampleut the Streak_351_15609_00(2.2.2).pkg (froyo) on your SD card .... flash a 351 recovery img, then after flashing, take out the battery. turn your device on (hold volume up + down + power) ... choose number 2 then your done.. your device will now update your rom...

[How To] Root SGP 4.0 YP-G1 (us)

This thread was created to verify and promote the SuperOneClick rooting method that worked for me. I purchased a YP-G1 SGP 4.0 from Amazon recently and found enough hints on what to try for gaining ROOT.
All credit for this method goes to CLShortFuse and his SuperOneClick process.
There may be other steps to get this running, but below is what I did and it worked.
1. Enable USB Debugging.
2. Connect YP-G1 to PC, mount storage.
3. Locate Samsung Kies install on phone storage, install Samsung Kies.
4. Reboot after install.
5. Open Kies, run the update. (Kies never successfully connected to the YP-G1. I believe this was just to get drivers installed.)
6. Extract SuperOneClick to a folder on your PC's HD. (I chose a folder with no spaces in the name. Not sure if it matters.)
7. Unmount storage from the phone's notification bar.
8. Launch SuperOneClick.exe.
9. Click ROOT on SuperOneClick application on the PC.
10. Sit back and wait. It takes quite a while with mandatory 40s pauses.
This method may include steps that are not actually needed, but it is what I did and rooting the YP-G1 was successful. I will try to update the steps if I found a way to take out a few steps.
User etrnldrk reported that the update to Kies was not necessarily.
You don't need to update Kies to get this to work. The drivers installed just fine for me with the version included on my player.

Good to hear this method was attempted on a 5" player. I really like this device and since I bought it for my Niece as a Christmas present, I might pick up the 5" for myself.
I've not had to process root again on the device, so I don't have much to update yet. Sounds like the Kies Update step was not needed, so thanks for reporting that.

Yeah, Pretty sure that's what they mean.
I also really like this device!
Best media player/mp3 player Ive ever had/used.
I have the 4.0, and a friend of mine has the 5.0,
and the 5.0's screen does not look nearly as good as the 4.0!
Also,
Ive only owned this for a couple/few weeks now,
and have not rooted it yet...
But am sorely tempted to do so..
However, I have no windows OS on any of my machines,
So what's the best route for someone on a Linux machine, with no access to windohs?
Really don't want to have to use an emulator to run a .exe file. lol
I used SuperOneClick on my UK 5.0 and it worked fine to obtain root.
I also said yes to installing busybox permanently, which was perhaps a mistake as it segfaults when I try to run it.
I believe this is because the /system partition didn't have sufficient space for the binary (it had ~650kb space remaining when mounted rw after the su binary was installed), so it has been truncated (and hence doesn't run well )
This leads to a problem when trying to install busybox from anywhere else too, and to solve this I had to grab a static busybox binary (from Debian iirc) place it in /data and create a symlink to /system/xbin/busybox (need to remount the partition rw temporarily). I didn't bother to create the symlinks, but probably should do.
*delete post*
Followed the directions & tried several times using XP and W7 machines. Both get stuck at "Running psneuter..." (See below). Anyone else have this problem?
I tried w/ Debugging on and off. Also tried mounted and unmounted. Failed.
I tried closing GO launcher (which I read on another thread), and running stock. Failed.
I tried 3 different versions of KIES (Kies_2.0.0.11034_5, Kies_2.0.0.11033_25 & Kies_2.1.1.11124_17_6). Failed.
Any ideas?

I ran an updated version of superone click and it worked. I was using 1.9.5 previously. 2.3.3.0 worked!

Really don't want to have to use an emulator to run a .exe file. lol

I was in the same boat as you. I love Linux, and hate Windows. But, I needed to root my device. Try this. It worked for my 5.0, and believe it should work for the 4.0. It uses the same zergRush exploit as Super One Click does. It's built on the same stuff as doomlord's root, too.

Failed.
Any ideas?

Try doomlords easy rooting toolkit, I used that and it rooted my galaxy player 4.0 easily.

Excellent! Thanks very much man.
I appreciate it. <3
Does anyone know if this works for Android 2.3.6 on the US Player 4.0? I've been looking everywhere and can't find anything for 2.3.6 (which apparently patches the zergRush exploit).

Flash either a custom rom or a custom kernel and then it is supposed to work.
The OP should be updated to reflect that the root won't work on 2.3.6 until a custom rom/kernel is installed.

Which custom rom or kernel? I've been trying to figure out how to get started rooting my US 4.0 player with 2.3.6 and it's proving incredibly confusing. Is there anywhere that lists a step by step process?? I know I need to unlock the bootloader - can't find any specific info on that for my particular player. I know I need to flash a ROM or Kernel, but can't find specific info on which one works for 2.3.6 for the YP-G1. I just can't seem to find any real useful info on how to proceed - could anyone throw me a bone?

First, you don't have to unlock any bootloader period. As far as the custom kernel goes, the only one that works well is TerraSilent. Because mostly everybody already switched up to a custom rom, GB was pretty much left up. I would recommend that you update your device when you'll have flashed a custom kernel or rooted your device.

AiO root not fully working and update decryption fails

Hi all,
I am using AiO 5.2 and I have the following configuration:
SGPT111CH/S
Android version 4.0.3 (release1a)
Kernel 2.6.39.4 [email protected] #1
Build number TISU0R0150110
Recovery .30<3e>
When trying to root using AiO I get both permissions check and the VpnFaker injection successful but the script fails 3 times at the terminal phase.
I've tried wiping, factory reset but nothing works.
I also have a problem with the update decryption. When I launch it I get a build error and a Status 7 and it doesn't go any further. If at the recovery menu I try to launch the install.zip file it fails too.
At this point I am completely lost, I must say that I'm also a little confused. Is my hardware/software combination a problem ? Is the script not working for this device ? I'm more than willing to try any manipulations you want
Cheers,
Serge

1) root - you have to keep on trying...
2) update decryption - you have to be rooted already! - back to 1) !

Hi condi,
Thanks for your reply. Despite many attemps I didn't manage to use version 5.2 to root the tablet, but then I tried this method :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
And use the script there and despite a few errors this worked. I then used your script to "root" again since I noticed that the script I used didn't seem to install busybox and I was concerned it wouldn't be compatible with the environment you setup.
For the update decryption, I had previously rooted the tablet with the manual root procedure and despite that it didn't work. I'll try again now that I have root on the tablet after a full wipe.
Best regards,
Serge Huber

Ok after looking at the script I noticed you were waiting for the recovery device. That's when I noticed that my recovery driver was not properly installed. Installing it solve the problem and I got shell access to the recovery !
Maybe this was also causing the issue with the rooting ? Is that possible ?
Best regards,
Serge Huber
Ok I managed to create a custom update but when I try to flash it with AiO everything seems to work fine until the reboot where it just gets stuck on the Sony logo. If I stop the tablet by pressing over 10 seconds on the power button and start it again I get back into my normal system. I also tried your custom prerooted ROM but the same thing happened. Any clues as to what is wrong ?
Cheers and again thanks for all the help,
Serge
