[Q] Remove the market's regional restrictions (Wifi only)? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I live in Cyprus, and cannot see all the apps in the market due to regional restrictions. I can't even see the official Gmail app.
I've tried "Paid apps enabler", "Market enabler" and "Market Access". PAE and ME return an error when I try to change to a US carrier, while MA reports that it has changed the carrier succesfully (but the market restrictions are still there). I'm guessing that this happens because my GT10.1 is the wifi only model thus there are no phone carrier settings to spoof (or google simply ignores the carrier's codes).
My device is rooted. Note that I've been succesfully using "paid apps enabler" on my nexus one for some months now. I have also tried to replace build.prop from a US xoom, and restarting, without any success.
How is google registering my location without 3g? Is it just by IP? Any ideas on how to overcome this?

I have de same problem. I have tried all that apps to no luck.

Go to apps and force close and delete data of Market and Market Update, restart And use a VPN connection. I use strongvpn

I'd prefer a simpler solution like the market access one. Any experts around to answer if that is technically possible since the wifi only model has no carrier to spoof??

It won't work....tried that with a rooted XOom.
What also works is getting the build.prop file of a Tab with 3G from a supported market. Than root and push it to the system folder.

I live in saudi and we have the same problem we can not get paid apps. I have a vpn account with private internet access with a US connection so I setup the vpn account in the tab and I got all the paid apps

this makes paid apps accessible but they still can not be installed. it fails when redirect to "My Apps" page. seems that something other than market and market-updater blocks the action.
try this:
remove the Google account, add it again after connect to VPN, then the location will be all reset, all app will be available.
this works for my but too inconvenient. I hope I will find some easier way soon.

I tried this and it doesnt work for me. I checked my IP and it's a usa ip.

Need build.prop
I have the same problem and all research seems to point to getting a build.prop file from a unit that has 3G. The Xoom users that had wifi only units had the same problem and this is how they got around it.
Now the question is where can we get a 3G US version of build.prop?

I can tell from experience that both the build.prop or VPN work.
The build.prop is way too complicated and requires root.
For VPN to work go to apps and clear all user data in location apps/market apps. Also clear all location based detection in settings. Before you restart the Tab, go into airplane mode and then restart.
When you're back enter password for your VPN, ready to login, but before you do enable wifi access and almost immediatly after that connect to your VPN, this way alll services go through the VPN. Works fine for me.

Sorry, I have tried every combination of VPN and still cannot get it to work.
I have a rooted tab, so I think the build.prop would be an easy solution if I can just find a valid US based 3G file to copy.

anybody have the build.prop and the method to install it ?

The 3G version is out but I still have not read anything about how to update the build.prop file to avoid the market issue. However, I have been able to successfully download and get to most apps on the market by following some hints from other helpful people on these forums....namely by closing all market related apps, clearing their cache, opening up a US based VPN and going back into the market.

I tried this (from China) from my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus, while using Market Enabler, faking my location, and changing my location (in time and location). I can see the paid apps, but once I try to download the order cancels. Akarim47, did you actually download any paid apps? I'm trying to get some paid apps, as well as a few free that aren't available overseas (why?) such as File Manager HD.

"This item cannot be installed on your country" on andriod market

Hi guys,
I have been following xda-forums for a while now and it has been really helpful in solving issues reg. app / OS / etc. Keep the good work up.
My Galaxy tab 10.1 has issues in the market place, I am not able to find few apps in Android Market (app) which could b found while accessing from the Browser. For Example, lets say "Google Earth" or "Google Chrome to Phone", when I try to install them from the browser, I get a pop-up "This item cannot be installed on your country".
Why does android market hide apps and why am i not able to install them inspite of living in India, which is supported according to android market's website ?
I bought by tab in US and currently using it in India. Can this be the reason ?
Thanks in Advance Guys,
-Vick
You need to clear the data in the Market app and use a VPN connection
Thanks blue13x, but can u guide me how to clear the data in the Market app and setup a VPN connection ?
I think the problem is with the account you set up. The same happened to me because I have a Canadian market account. If you have a US credit card, you certainly can set up a US account for your Google checkout. Otherwise, you cannot bypass the location check when choosing apps. Once you have set up a US account, regardless of where you physically are, you can download all apps available in the US market. I find the best way to do this is logging in to Android Market on your computer and choose whatever you like. They will be downloaded to your tab automatically. The plus side is that Market also checks compatibility for you, which the version of Market on your tab won't.
If you only have an Indian credit card, then you are out of luck my friend, I am afraid.
US Credit Card not mandatory
Hello,
I am also facing the same problem as I purchased my Galaxy Tab from US and I am now using it in Egypt.
I first changed my country in my Google account >> didn't work
Then I created a Google Checkout account with my "Egyptian" credit card but with an address in the US >> it worked BUT the Android Market issue still the same !!
Can I change country settings from within the Galaxy Tab itself ?
Guys, I have the same problem, the 7" had the market enabler to trick the GSM network
Now with the 10.1 wifi, u shud use a vpn, buy one from WiTopia, I just recommend it cuz I ve been using it on my tabs, PC's etc....
Now you get a vpn, u can present in any country u want now I look as am i n the US, but I can move to Europe or Asia anytime with my vpn, virtually
PS I live now in Qatar

A friend just sent me Market Access app but I did not try it yet.
I just can't figure how the galaxy tab recognized the location is not USA.
So how much is this VPN from WiTopia ?
The same here, in Russia. What if set up my google checkout account with US card, will it help? I dont want to use VPN. Also, may be there is just some market enabler patch around?
You can use market access - and it should be on boot

Hi
Thank you for your reply. If you are not able to remove updates, your Market app or your device is reporting your location incorrectly. This could be due to the Market being corrupt, or some other issue with your device. For support with your device, I recommend you contact the manufacturer or carrier directly. I have provided a link to both below for your convenience:
Sprint:
Samsung
To resolve issues with the Market, I recommend you perform a factory reset on your device. Please note that this will reset your device to its original state. While your media content (photos, music, etc.) will not be deleted from the SD card, applications and their related data will be uninstalled.
Before the factory reset, make sure that your contacts are synced to your Google account by signing into Gmail from a computer and verifying if your contacts appear there. If your contacts are not synced, then I recommend updating your sync settings at Settings > Accounts and Sync and choosing either AutoSync or touching the account you would like to sync and choosing "Sync Contacts."
Along with syncing contacts, please back up any important application data and/or settings by navigating to Settings > Privacy and selecting "Back up my data'"and "Automatic restore."
To perform a factory reset:
1) Go to Home > Menu > Settings > Privacy 2) Press "Factory data reset" 3) Press "Reset tablet"
After you perform the factory reset, make sure you sign into your device with the same primary Google Account you were using before. If you have any questions or concerns before performing the reset, or if doing so does not resolve the issue, please let me know so I can continue to investigate the issue.

Country issues with Galaxy Tab 10.1
Hello!
I am new to all of this, but can relate to what all of you are saying about the Galaxy Tab 10.1.
I bought one in New York and the Samsung agent at Best Buy told me I would have no issues with it at all. Wherever there was wi-fi, I would be able to use the device without any problems. He also told me I would have a world-wide warranty.
However, I too am having issues with Market and the ability to install "UK based" apps, for example BBC iPlayer, or Beebplayer. It tells me this app cannot be installed in your country. Now Market won't load at all.
I also tried to register my device on the Samsung website, but without success. I called Samsung and they told me the device is not supported in the UK. Any device with a model number beginning in "GT-P" won't be supported apparently.
If I had any idea that I would have such issues, I may not have bought one at all.
Is anybody any further on in figuring out how to get the device to recognise the country it is being used in? I am happy to do a factory reset as I don't have anything on the device yet, but would this action help it "think" it was living in the UK!!? OR, can the creation of a UK Google account fix the problem?
Best Regards,

Yes, market enabler will not work with the wifi only version of the GT. There needs to be some modification of the build.prop file or you can get around it by clearing the market apps cache and using the vpn method described above.
1: rooted tab 10.1
2: cleared all caches including advanced with power/volume menus
3: Even with vpn was being blocked by the out of country message
4: set clocks in all routers/modums and the galaxy tab to same time zone as vpn server (some sites track your time zone).
5: repowered router
6: changed vpn server location
I had cleared caches previously so I don't think that was it but one or more of the other steps fixed my problem and I have full access to market
If you have trouble with your market account sign in, go to web --samsungdive.com --and reset your account there, then return to Tab and reenter account data.
I kind of ran into a version of this problem, but with some apps that would not accept US currency on Google Checkout. Since you can only use a credit card, and mine won't allow out of US transactions I was stuck.
ADWLauncher folks directed me to AndroidPIT.com. They don't have everything, but what is available can be downloaded as APK and you can use paypal and other payment methods.
Worth a shot for some things.

Modaco posted instructions a while ago RE using the Amazon Android app store from outside the US, might be worth trying similar steps for the Google Market.
http://android.modaco.com/topic/336...tore-from-outside-the-us-including-paid-apps/
Amazon's Appstore for Android does not seem to have this problem and will allow me to purchase and install from China whereas Market will not. Amazon does not have quite the full selection as Market, but I have been able to find almost everything I wanted there.
guys i am facing this issue
i tried everything from apps like market enabler to US vpn and US credit card. nothing changes. Many times i cleared market data without success.
still cannot install apps. It says item cannot be installed in your country !!
please someone help.
my solution for full market access
actually when you think about it, the very first possibility that the system can identify your location is through the internet connection.
So here is what I do;
0. In order for all the following procedures to work, you should have already set all the location parameters to US in your Google Account settings on the web. (Google Checkout, Calendar, Profile address, etc.)
1. Disconnect your tablet's wifi from the default access point (forget the connection)
2. Switch off your wifi connection, wipe the cache and data of the Market app, remove your Google account from the tablet's settings and restart your tablet
3. Then on your mobile phone switch off all the internet connections (wifi & mobile data) and restart your phone
4. After your phone turns on, the first thing you should do is to fake a US provider on the Market Enabler; after that you can enable the mobile data connection for internet access... but not the wifi. (we are avoiding as much as we can for our real ip not to appear on the other side)
5. On your mobile phone settings enable the "wifi hotspot"; which will be the access point for our tablet.
6. On your tablet fake a US provider with Market Enabler, as well... after that switch on your wifi and connect to your phone's mobile internet through wifi.
7. After the connection established launch the Market app; as you have your Google account removed before hand, it will ask you to sign in... do so and wait for the legal aggreement pop-up to appear. If you can see the terms "Google Book" and "Youtube" in this pop-up window, that will be the first clue that you have unlocked the full market access.
8. Confirm the aggreement and wait for all the market tabs to appear (Apps, Books, Movies)
As to my experience, the system is registering your location when you first set up your Google account on your tablet... and keeps it later on. That's why, no matter how many times you restart, wipe and/or redo fake procedures it doesn't help.
So, vital thing is to have the right conditions set before kicking your Google account on the tablet.
Hope this could do the trick for you all.

My tablet was purchased in US, I have a Google Apps US account with a US credit card. When I activated the device, I was in Canada. How do I make it revert to US? My Internet connection is in Canada with a US VPN.
I don't see any option to reset my SamsungDive account? Not to mention it displays 2 tablets there. The first tablet was the 16GB one that I exchanged for a 32GB model. Both tablets were purchased in US.
When I go to Android Market, I see Netflix listed, but when I try to install it, I get the message: "This item cannot be installed in your device's country." Thanks for your help.

wi-fi Required for all apps through market

So i'm on market version 3.3.11, and no matter the setting, it seems EVERY app requires wifi to be downloaded. Is there a way around this? Is there some bug with the new version?

I actually figured it out -- i wiped the data on my phone and re-installed the miui rom. Apparently, there is an option on their "downloads" pre-installed default app that has a option to only download over wifi. This is on by default and was blocking ALL internet/data traffic over the appstore as well as web sites. Turning this off fixed the issue.
You may need to do the settings from the beginning again. And select the Wi-Fi and Mobile Network. Only a guess. :S
wifi is not required to download app from Android Market. I have just downloaded using GPRS...

Can't establish a reliable data connection

I looked up a few solutions, and none of them worked. Finally, I gave up and reset my device to factory settings.

By the Android Version I think you probably dont have a custom rom. Now since you don't, the easiest way without spending hours on the internet researching is to call your phone provider's technical service and they'll help you. This is a direct and easier method rather then searching online.

Sorry about that. Well if you didn't root it, you should have your warranty and Samsung would definitely help you.
I wouldn't recommend taking any device back unless you have exerted all the possibilities of a fix. People's time is precise in my opinion.
What you can do is try factory resetting your device, it might of been a issue relating to updating the Google Play (Market) application.
Hope this helps.

Well since you have a Google account, try this. Log into your Google account on the computer. Go to the play store. Go to my apps. And download it from there. I highly doubt this will work because you don't have a connection but its worth a quick shot. Also since you do have root, did you backup your apps via titanium or any other app? You could get all your apps and data back that way.

I tried downloading from my PC, but it didn't work because the account wasn't synced. I was able to get pretty much everything back by using the Aptoide store and downloading the .apk files manually. I don't need an account on the device to use it anymore, so everything's fine.
I came out with a solution for you, but you will need to take a couple of steps to get it completely working.
First thing you need to do, is download a Play Store APK file, and save it onto your device. (Click here to download)
Next step, since you're rooted is finding a Root File Explorer to remove the Play Store file you have installed on your device. ( Try This *Note, haven't tested myself*!! ) )
When it's removed, feel free to install the play store apk from the first step to your device.
Hope this helps, is so, feel free to like.

[Q] bypass android market restriction

Hello,
I am trying to download a game that is only released in Canada, how can I download the game and by pass the country restriction that is associated with my account?
Thank you.
Try using a VPN that terminates in Canada like BTGuard. Or ask, the developer to check off USA as a country that can download the app. It is a simple checkbox for them, I have published an app to Play, and I only selected USA, Canada, and the UK, but it can be changed with one checkbox.
Scott
I found some directions here, though for another VPN provider. http://help.unotelly.com/support/articles/60448-how-to-download-out-of-country-apps-from-google-play-store

This is easier: you need an app called Market-Enabler... it used to be in the play store but it was removed some time ago.
http://androidweeds.com/market-enabler/
If you have trouble finding or downloading it google up "MarketEnabler_v3113.apk"
Basically, root/busybox is required, and you clear data on the Play Store app, then run this and select a carrier that is local to the market you need (ie. some Canadian carrier in this instance), open and log into the Play Store, download and install your app, then close the Play Store, run the app again and restore your original settings.
Actually, I don't think VPNing into another country will work, it is based on code in the device itself and is irrelevant to your physical location or IP address allocation location.
Market enabler does not work. Nothing happens when I try to use it. Nothing changes.

I appreciate the help, however I have tried all of those methods. It seems google keeps track of the country where you created the account. I even tried creating an account using a proxy from the country I need and it still changed it to US after I logged into the account from my device. Im not sure why google is so strict with country restrictions, but its unfortunate.
The game is in beta stage right now and I have been in touch with the developer about bugs and such, and they will release the game in my country but in about a months time. I appreciate the help, xda members are the best.
EDIT: The thing that worked was from this forum, post #9:
