[Q] Custom ROMs and SD card - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have used some custom ROMs (2.2, 2.3) on my X10, but none of them recognizes my SD card. The stock ROM (2.1) reads it properly, it is visible when I connect the phone to the computer via USB using the stock ROM.But when i use a custom one it says "Please mount SD card..." on Storage Settings and the computer recognizes it as removable disk, but it shows that the card is empty.I've tried cleaning all types of caches, full wipe, mounting/unmounting the SD card and formatting it with xRecovery and changing different basebands.
Is it a ROM bug, or I am doing something wrong?

Please check that your SD card is formatted to FAT 32. If not, the ROM won't recognised it.

Your SD card is probably partitioned.
Custom ROMs for X10 only recognise the second partition on an SD card,
meaning if you have one FAT32 and one ext2 (ext3, ext4, etc), it will mount the second and thus won't be able to read it, so you'll get an "SD card corrupted" message.
You need to wipe and erase the second partition with the same program you used to create it and it should work fine on any custom ROM.

I wiped the old partitions and then formatted the SD card to FAT32.Now it's recognized properly by the ROM.Thanks to both of you!!!

SD Card Partitioning on HTC Explorer

I just partitioned my MicroSD card with MiniTool.
First Partition: FAT
Second Partition: Ext2
My laptop recognizes the card through card reader and I can see the two partitions in MiniTool, but my phone (HTC Explorer) does not recognize it. Any suggestions?
Unless you have flashed a custom kernel (or a custom ROM containing one, e.g. JaggyRom), you can only use FAT32 partitions.
But your phone won't "recognize" the second partition as such, it'll only be seen by certain apps and scripts (e.g. apps2SD scripts/apps, such as Link2SD).
Or did you mean the phone won't recognize the card at all? If so, that seems strange. Make sure the first partition is the FAT one, and it is a "primary" partition. Also try rebooting the phone while the card is inserted.
u need a custom rom...the device doesnt recognize use titanium backup it will show all partitions in startup screen...flash any custom rom.......

Formated SD card now cant connect to computer PLEASE HELP

So I checked the settings in the ICS and saw something like clear/format the internal SD I don't remember exactly.
I pressed the button.
Now I cant connect the SGS2 to the computer it just shows me 2 unrecognized partitions.
From recovery in the internal SD card there are 3 folders of the system.
What to do?
Maybe flash a stock ROM?
since you have formated your internal sd, you have a blank drive, since the external sd card depends on the internal.
You need to flash a new rom using odin.

[Q] SD card not Recognized and wrong amount of storage displayed

Droid X2 on Eclipse 2.3 (now on CM10)
with a 32GB Sandisk (link to: ht tp://goo.gl/ h9Mai (remove spaces))
My phone has become very slow, so i decided to reinstall Eclipse, so I booted into recovery, wiped the data and cache then tried to install Eclipse. within a few seconds, it came up with an error saying that the file was bad. I rebooted the phone and reformatted the SD card, now the internal storage ( in Settings>Storage settings) now only gives me the option to format internal storage and the SD card gives me the option of formatting or mounting the card. There is also a notification saying Preparing internal storage, Checking for errors. I selected the Format SD card and after it finished formating, it now says that the card only has 4.3GB of storage. Any suggestions or Fixes?
The Bootstrap Recovery can read the two memories without any issues, and i did a SBF back to 2.3.4 and had the same issue
I Just installed CM10 and the problem persists, The SD card says insert a sd card for mounting (it is inserted) and the Internal storage says Mount SD card

If it gives you the option to mount the SD card, do so. It's my understanding that after reformatting the SD card you have to mount it for it to be used with your phone.
Unmounted means your SD card is in your phone, but not connected to anything so you can safely remove it. Mounted means your SD card is in your phone AND it is integrated into the phone's system and can be used for data storage.
And possibly adding to your confusion is that Eclipse has a mod called SD card flip-flop, which reverses the naming of your internal storage and external SD card. Check out this link that explains it in depth http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1229294
Cyanogen Roms do not use the SD Card flip-flop mod, and they also name the storage locations slightly different than the stock Rom.
Thank you, but as it turns out the SD card it self is not working. I plunged it in to my computer with an SD card adapter and it didn't show up. I assume that the card has become corrupt, so I will be replacing it. Their is one thing that confuses me however, and Is how bootstrap recovery is capable of reading the card, but the phone when booted normally or the computer can not.

And for future knowledge, you cannot flash a ROM over CM10. Theres an issue that CM10 has with flashing ROMs. Other stuff flashes fine. Just not ROMs. So that would explain why you had a problem flashing Eclipse when you were on CM10. The right process is to SBF and start over or restore a nandroid backup of Ice Cream Sandwich or Gingerbread and go from there. On top of that, Eclipse is on 2.3.5 while every other ROM is on 2.3.4. So flashing a 2.3.5 ROM on 2.3.4 will also not work.

E:can't mount/external_sd/

I've been having no trouble with flashing roms from my external sd card. I'm looking to completely wipe my phone (internal and external sd cards) to get a fresh install. I formatted my external sd card (via the phone). I then connected it to my PC, copied over my rom and a wipe tool no problem. My phone reads the SD card fine when it's booted up, can see the rom i've copied over.
When I re-boot into recovery mode with CWM-based Recovery (v6.0.1.4 - siyah), it says "E:can't mount/external_sd/" when I try to find my rom to flash.
I'm wondering if the problem is the siyah thing, it's not the kernal i'm using, if was installed on my phone with a rom I no longer use. That said, it wasn't an issue before I formatted my external SD card.
I've just updated CWM to ClockworkMod Touch 6.0.3.2 which has got rid of the Siyah version. I've also formatted the SD card again as i've read that formatting via the phone changes the file format to something cwm doesn't like. I did it via PC, it's formatted at exfat. Still made no difference, CWM won't read it.
Might be a silly question but did you go into "mounts and storage" I. Cwm and check the external sd card is mounted?

I have tried that. It didn't work, it would give the same error. I have managed to get it to be read in CWM, I downloaded the ROM manager tool, used that to put a partition on the SD card. Then I was able to format the card via CWM. I've not had a chance to put my ROM back on the SD card and retry. One thing is, when I booted up the phone after formatting the card in CWM, the phone shows it as blank or has an unsupported file system, saying it needs to be formatted. I wonder why there is a conflict?
I needed to format the sd card on my pc, it needed to be fat32. All sorted now

If you really want exFAT, try Philz recovery linked in my signature. It is CWM but with loads of great extra features (including exFAT support).
I actually thought that exFAT support meant it can format in exFAT. I find it odd that exFAT is the native format that Samsung uses but CWM doesn't support it.
Personally I use FAT32 myself as my main computer is Linux and exFAT is too microsofty for it to recognise.
I've installed that and re-formatted my SD card into whatever Samsung uses (think it's exfat) as fat32 was making windows explorer slow and crash prone
sup guys am having a problem with my samsung galaxy s3,via E:can't something related to mount format.............i mount for mated ,anyone who know how i can fix it?

[Q] can't mount particular (healthy) SD card

Hello,
my Xperia ray does not mount (working) 16GB SDHC card that I formerly repartitioned to provide additional space for applications. Following this tutorial
xperiablog.net/2011/12/12/link2sd-guide-never-worry-about-internal-memory-limits-again/
I've set up 2 partitions, but phone recognized none of them. Neither did Windows, when card was connected through Xperia. Using card reader, I've managed to delete both partitions with partition program and make one FAT32 again. After formatting, this SD card is working properly in Windows, but doesn't in Xperia ray (and another Android phone). Another card is mounted in my phone flawlessly.
CWM Recovery also can't mount this card. I've even changed from CarbonROM to one that I believe to be stock (ST18i_4.1.B.0.587_CE_1252-3693_ForsakenNGL.ftf), but it didn't help. I dont know whether is it related, but none of kernels (ROMs?) i've tried had partition table file in flashtool menu. Does any of those have one?
How to repair this memory card?
EDIT: Problem solved, all that was needed to do was to change state of partition from "Logical" to "Primary" in partition program.
